I'd like to thank you, Mr. Clegg, for inspiring me to hunt for arrowheads. My wife and I scouted out places on Google Maps and recently received permission to hunt on one of the properties. Yesterday was our first day out looking. We found hundreds of flint flakes (flint is not native in that specific location) and 2 broken points. We were totally surprised and thrilled with our findings! Can't wait to go back out!

Lots of history around that area. Read Eckert"s "That Dark and Bloody River". You kind of remind me of an E7 drill sergeant we had at Fort Campbell in basic. He was hilarious and broke us up with his jokes. We called him the "E7 from heaven".

My neighbor (retired conservation officer) stopped by today. By chance, he mentioned hunting for arrowheads. I told him I was already planning. We're gonna hit the creek running through my property once the steelhead stop running. We don't want to disturb the spawning. I constructed a very simple strainer. Basically, it's a milk crate with a plastic screen with 3/8" openings zip tied to the bottom.

Cleft, just found your channel the other day and I’m loving it!! You make me just bust out laughing at times, and others shout, oh wow!! I loved this adventure and the history of this wonderful area you live in. I live in Tenn, and when I was young, I used to follow along behind my dad as he plowed tge fields. I had bags of, well, what I called arrow heads. I’ll never know. We moved, only across the field, but I was made to leave my finds, meaning to go back later to get them. But someone disappeared them. Where I live is also so rich in Native American history. Artifacts are not hard to find here, as I too live on a river. I’m determined for my health to get better, as no’s you have me all fired up to get out and start looking!!!! Thankyou and God bless and keep making these videos!!!!

That flat, scarred piece of rock looks like an ancient whetstone. The Adena were known to use such bone awls in ceremony , made sharp by abrading them on those sandstone tablets. Early tattooing going on. Great video, bud👍

It would be great to be able to go back and see how these people lived. I often wonder about how much different the landscape looked back before settlers moved in. The area i live in N.C. a early exployer John Lawson came thru my area and described the cultures and lands he saw. Gives us a small look into the past. Enjoy your videos keep it up!

I have never in my life seen so many points found !!! I find a couple points a year all are quartz here in western NC. I have found 1 flint tho

You are one of the few people that make videos that I enjoy the explaining even if you are just imagining what might have been or happened. I have heard you say the little heads were for a arrow shot in a bow. I totaly agree with you. I use to make and shoot bows. I wasn't to choosy what wood I used . I gravatated to Swith Cane for arrows and Osage orange for bows and arrows although I did use other types wood on occasion. I could get arrows shooting extremely well with a stone head weighing 87 grains to 100 grains on cane shafts. Most of the long heads we find in my area are atlatl points. They are to heavy for arrows used in bows. Just wanted to thank you for educating us.

You kid about getting those vibes, but they are there! I remember a a young kid detecting with my dad and brothers on a civil war battlefield (private land), we would be in a 12 ft high corn field. Many brave men lost there lives in the exact spot (ridge). We would occasionally stop for a break being in the middle of summer. You could feel the energy and at times hear things that you couldn't comprehend. Afterwards we would discuss some of those encounters. All of us at times got they same type of feeling. You would have to experience it, it's hard to explain. I do believe that certain energies remain in places. I've experienced it first hand!!!

How can you tell the difference between outcropping breaking away naturally on top of the hill vs placed stone when the stones are not obviously arranged in any way?

I'm going turkey hunting in Illinois where the Kaskaskia river meets the Mississippi river. Can yuo give me any tips on what type of points I might find. I'm hunting on a creek that meets them.

The earthworks sound a lot like a means of flood protection. A levee, basically. I'm sure the river rises dramatically at times.

I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree with the ghost town theory. IMO and many others is that after occupying a site for many years they depleted the trees. They had to have wood to cook and stay warm among many other uses. Once they had to go to far to get wood they simply moved the village site closer to the trees. I agree with the other points you made and it was a killer video. Sweet drill and points.👍👊

Shame to see what happened at Bens Run. It's impossible to preserve everything, but imagine what we could have learned. It's like living in an alternate timeline where Cahokia was destroyed without archaeological excavations.

I think it has to do with resources. These people are going to congregate where the best water, wood, food is. Maybe trees were harvested out and they moved to new area where more easily accessible lumber was? Although if you had a great water source and hunting it’d be hard to leave!

Nutting stone is a great artifact.its always a bitch to lug that stuff out .but that's a special artifact.every home needs one.ivhave a few and use one every no and then for cracking nuts.

That mound was awesome.what a strategic view of way down to the bend in the river.havnt a constant lookout down the river was the #1 thing all tribes had to do or they died.the violence and no stop wars and raids and mortal enemy tribes was constant.indians killed each other nonstop.and they didnt just take your sqaws and furs.they killed every man or boys.and killed the very young girls and all babies.and killed all the elderly and killed the fat sqaws or the ugly sqaws. And they came by their highways to attack fast and be on their ways fast .to avoid warriors getting back to the village from hunting or mining or after being alerted.the river is their highway and the creeks and tributaries are their smaller roads that take longer to navigate and travel through.

It's sad so much of the history of this land has been destroyed and lost to time

you have to think about how the land looked then weeds all over sticks and limbs all over the ground it would be easy to lose artifacts.you moved a lot with your food supply.

Not sure if your a religious man at all but id be willing to bet the mounds you talk of and the huge bolders of rock put at high elevations originate from what the book of genesis call the nephelium or (giants) which in the days of noah genesis says" they were in those days and also afterwards!" Just a thought.........
