Notes/Typos The dates for Tuthmosis reign should be 1504 BC-1450 BC instead of 1504 BC-1550 BC (He was not a time traveler :) Cannan should be spelled as Caanan on the map. Perisan should be spelled as Persian in the caption near the end of the video. Reading mistake: I say "mediggo" but it is Megiddo as I wrote on the map caption.
LITERALLY UNWATCHABLE. I AM NOT GOING TO THANK YOU FOR MAKING WITTY VIDEOS WITH ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATIONS. ESPECIALLY I HATE HOW YOU MAKE INFORMATION MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR EVERYBODY. JUST GIVE UP DUDE.
I loved the inverted map. Somehow it made Egypt feel way more isolated. It's such a small thing but gave valuable insight into what the world looked like from their perspective.
Exactly such quality production are extremely hard to find The art style and the calm voice is extremely calming just hoped as he get bigger he doesn't use other voice to narrate the vids
- The fall of ancient EMPIRES comes from this, hades discovery within gradually, things get boring and people cry within for sweet home peace that they once knew, and all superficial power seems pointless. I know a secret from old Egypt, Kether-Safiroth-KA (Yiny-Yang-Tao) how humans and spirits alike unravel their true inner peace in renewed frontiers, and make the EMPIRES rise again, and again, you need to know how and what could be the problems among the inhabitants to recover and relive for the better - You could say the human race would have to die out!
I think it’s amazing how vast Ancient Egypt’s history is. Like they were a civilization that existed for more than 3 thousand years, they existed for longer than all of Roman history. I mean when they were constructing the pyramids they were still mammoths in some parts of the world, MAMMOTHS! Do you realize how incredible that is.
Eqypt was so incredibly old. The famous Cleopatra (VII) lived closer to man going to moon than building of great pyramids of Giza. That is just how incredibly ancient Eqypt was.
Cleopatra was not Egyptian. Cleopatra was a Ptolemy ruler of Egypt which were Greek Pharaohs stemming from following Alexander the Great had conquered Persia - acquiring Egypt in the process since Egypt was a Persian colony at the period. Alexander classified himself as Pharaoh, which later on birthed a dynasty of Greek Pharaohs such as Cleopatra. Thus, Cleopatra was not a real Egyptian.
@@rob-8541 They weren't Egyptian. However, they were a part of the same culture: Nile Valley Culture. It would be no different than the Romans conquering the Greeks. The Romans and Greeks were basically a part of the same culture, and the Greeks later became Romans, i.e. Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire).
@@rob-8541 Ancient Egypt was a civilisation that was ended in 525 BC. However, there was a brief moment where the natives reconquered their lands from the Persians during a revolt which was led by Amyrtaeus in 404 BC which he later became Pharaoh of the 28th Dynasty, the only Pharoah of the 28th Dynasty. Nevertheless, Egypt was reconquered by Persians in 343 BC. That was the end of African rule in Ancient Egypt in which Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs later ruled. Following 343 BC, Africans would *NEVER* rule Egypt again. The last Pharaoh, Pharaoh Nectanebo II was exiled to Nubia. The Arabs colonised the whole of North Africa in the 7th century known as the Arabic conquest of Northern-Africa. However, prior to the Arabs, there were Greek, Roman and Vandal settlements in Northern-Africa. Africans have not ruled Ancient Egypt for *2,362* years. Do you know what has happened since then? Greco-Roman rule has been since 332 BC until 642 AD ( *974* years). Islamic rule -Arab and Ottomans have been ruling Egypt since 642 AD ( *1,337* years and still continuing). .
@@rob-8541 You clearly know nothing regarding Egypt or Africa for that matter. For one, Nubian civilisation is older than Egyptian. Ta-Seti and Nabta Playa are far older than the entirety of Egyptian civilisation. The first Egyptian Pharaoh, Narmer derived from the region what is referred to as 'Nubia'. As I mentioned, modern Egyptians are not descendants of Ancient Egyptians and people who state such nonsense are either ignorant or flat out racist. How can the same people lecture us that the modern Egyptians are the same as the Ancient Egyptians while Egypt was ruled by foreign powers for over 2,300 years but somehow tell us that the Turks who conquered Constantinople in 1453 are not Greek but Turkic whom merely conquered Constanipole 566 years ago? Moreover, the same imbeciles who state such nonsense believe in conspiracies such as "The Great Replacement". Somehow Muslims who merely migrated into Europe 60 years ago is somehow going to replace the native European population in a few decades? Nevertheless, but the Egyptians who were ruled by Arabs and Turks for over 1,337 years were not replaced. As for the Copts, you clearly do not know what you are on about. Copts derive from Greco-Romans that conquered Egypt following Alexander. Prior to 332 BC, there was no such thing as a Copt. The Coptic language derives from Greek and is an admixture of the Ancient Egyptian (native) language Demotic. Moreover, 'Coptic' is a religious classification. Not an ethnic classification. The Coptic Church was founded during the period of Roman rule, in which a citizen of Libya, Cyrene, a Roman colony, named Saint Mark founded the Coptic Church in Alexandria. In 49 AD, there was no such thing as religious Copts prior to the arrival of Saint Mark. Nor was there even a Coptic language before 332 BC. You clearly do not know what you are talking about.
Good analysis and it gets deeper. The first thing you should understand is they were Black but I know that's to hard for you people so that why the full mystery is always hidden.
@Mohammed Hassan eh, no. The nile runs from south to north, which is why upper egypt is *south* of lower egypt, or below lower egypt on the north-south maps. So yes the nile runs down to lower egypt, but it also runs from *south to north*, hence why the inverted map.
Eeh, Sumeria is well more impressive *cough* just sayin. Taking into account how the 'core' civilization there flourished right up until the Greek Diadochi's (who broke with that tradition that every invader/hegemon had assumed)
It depends what you mean by 'Western civilization'. The Minoans of Crete are considered to be the 'first' European civilization, who were quite advanced and were contemporary with Ancient Egypt and maintained a friendly trade relationship with them. But if you mean the 'modern' West of the last 500 years or so, then its rapid rise to global dominance, and advancing from sailing ships to Moon landings in that time could be seen as perhaps more noteworthy than a civilization that stayed much the same for centuries at a time, with even its art barely changing from stiff and formal, and with its best known achievements (the pyramids) occurring at the beginning. And of course, 'the West' could also include the Greeks (Macedonians) and the Romans who ended up conquering and ruling Egypt for about 900 years, which is a very big chunk of ancient history.
Minoans arent european though? Myceneanas sure, Minoans are thought to be from central Anatolia or Cyprus IIRC? But your right they were the hightech badboys of the 3rd and 2nd millenium. Geothermal, paved roads, epic economic centralization. @@tsopmocful1958 Arguablly western civilization starts with the german ascension, as we're all technically german or of german descent here in the western world ;p But i mean pre indo-europeans were building cool shit in western europe at the same time as the pyramids. it just wasent quite as impressive as Sumeria or Egypt ahah.
@@tsopmocful1958 You misunderstand, I'm not saying that Egypt is older than Minoans, Mycenaeans (even though it is) or any other group. I'm saying that it's remarkable how they lasted for so long as a culture, so long in fact that if you measure the amount of time they were around, it's longer than the amount of time it's been since the ancient rise of the Greek City-states. Of course, one could also argue that Egypt *is* a part of Western Civilization, but that's neither here nor there.
Sorry if you don't care but your drawing of the Nile river is a modern one. Where Aswan is today your drawing shows the Nile break its streamline and become jagged and uneven (about halfway up the river), then return to its softer river shape. This is because in the 1960's a dam was built there flooding that area disturbing the once more natural shape of the river. Figured it'd be an interesting fact to anyone who reads this.
When I was in primary school I remember struggling with the concept of Upper Egypt being lower on the map. My teacher should have just flipped the map upside down like you did here, it would have made so much more sense to my 8 year old mind lol
My primary teacher explained it like this: rivers are born in the mountains and flow down to the sea, so the north of Egypt is indeed Lower than the south. The same logic applies to many European regions where even inverting the map doesn't help, since most rivers don't flow as neatly from south to north as the Nile.
Actually it is called upper Egypt not because the orientation of the map, but because it has a higher elevation, and that's why the Nile flow in that direction.
@@Fearofthemonster they study ancient Egypt as an 8-year-old because you literally have to go to school as an 8-year-old and the teachers at school have to teach history because they are history teachers............
I've watched around 6 different videos all on RU-vid about Ancient Egypt and this has got to be the best one. I'm always looking for history videos that balance the different aspects of history well and this video ranks on top in my personal ranking, although I'm no one but a history buff. Excellent work!
this guy is so good that he doesn't even need to really use graphics. currently in the process of watching every video on his channel!!! been through like 25 so far
I have been looking for the history video like for a long time, and that is the best Ancient Egypt history one that I've (finally) found. Thank you very much for all that effort and work and coffee (i guess) you've put in it! Loved it)
Wow!!...Amazing explanation and the small little insights you gave at times really made it more imaginable, I was able to imagine the people and stuff I mean...Amazing video BTW
Gengonglike Arbukle Yes, he is a devil, it’s in his blood to lie, notice how he made the ancient Egyptian and the surrounding people with white skin. I pray that the earth becomes very hot.
@@Somali-Puntite Sigh!!! When will you people study the real black african history and stop claiming egypt. He literally talked about nubia!! Why don't you start from there.
Really like the inverted map, as has been mentioned, this is likely much more accurate to the egyptian ciew of the world, given that the nile flowed upstream down south.
Not only for that reason. The North on top convention is rather recent and quite Eurocentric. A good reason to have South on top (from a Northern Hemisphere viewpoint) is that the Sun is always to the South, at least if you're north of the tropic. Another convention, quite popular in the Middle Ages was with the East up.
@King Kush These archaic humans were not black. Some of these groups may have shared some features we associate with black people (darker skin, kinkier hair, etc), but they would be very genetically distant from any modern population.
If the final season of Game of Thrones is no good I'll just come back and watch this until I'm satisfied. You keep outdoing yourself, sir. Well done, *great* video!
One of the underrated pharaoh of Egypt is Inaros II. During the time, Egypt was under Achaemenid rule, and is also the time the Greco Persian war is taking place. He is supposed to be the ruler of Sais, which is the capital at time which makes him pharaoh, so he threw a huge revolt against the Persians. He lost but dealt a devastating blow to the Achaemenid men and supplies so the Greeks can win the battle of plataea
You mean the Romans? They were more advanced from almost all points of view and reformed Egypt for the better. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BaCaFpAtm48.html . Egypt was never the same after the Bronze Age Collapse, then it prospered under Roman administration, only to be turned into a s-hole by Arabs and Muslims.
Priyamjeet - Respect from Philadelphia to the Indus River Civilization, which is so often overlooked by scholars in favor of Egypt, Greece, Babylon, et cetera.
Priyamjeet Mohanty I’ve read about your history too... I didn’t realize how similar ancient Egyptian culture and ancient India had in common... Hindu religion and gods are so similar to Egypt gods, even the names of the gods are similar... Hindu Kush 👍🏾 Then I started to wonder if that’s why East Africans look different, ancient trading between Africa and India
am Coptic Christian, we are basically the last remaining link to our ancestress. I am really upset that our language isn't more commonly spoken even if just among us, we only speak in church during liturgy. I know of family's that only speak coptic when they are home but thats rare. Coptic language is also closely related dialects descended from the Ancient Egyptian language, it allowed old Egyptologists to understand hieroglyphics.
Coptic language was founded in ad/ce time and is not closely related dialect descended of the ancient ancestors of the motherland. They did not call themselves Egyptian! Christian's did not exist until 33 ad/ce time. Learn your ancient facts! You are one confused person.
Let's not pretend that the Egyptian dialect of Arabic is not a mixing between Coptic and original Arabic along with Turkish also ethnically and genetically speaking we shouldn't be so far apart
I have now realized that I know very little about Ancient Egypt's political history. I only remember a few popular pharaohs from what we'd been taught at school. The map thing is honestly eye-opening.
dude you are straight up a badass . you make me want to both study history and create my own youtube channel. Being a bored teacher, using youtube to create videos that teach people stuff I am interested in or that I think people should know, your videos really helped me to envision the possibility of making this a reality. Im in the process of watching all your videos, thank you for the inspiration and education.
I didn't realise it is an inverted map first and I was like ''owo where is dat place'' lol.I would like to listen story of mamluks from you.Your videos are awesome.
Mamluks are the second best people who ruled Egypt after old kingdom pharaohs. Most of what we call now old Cairo was built during their time. Cairo has the largest collection of Islamic architecture in the world because of the Mamluks. Not a single bad/weak Sultan during their whole time.
Somehow, my Ancient History teacher managed to make Egypt really boring and confusing despite us being really interested in it. Basic overviews of the entire history at the beginning like this would have given a much broader context than simply diving straight into deep detail from the outset.
That skillshare ad was so good i was sitting there for a solid 3 minutes after it was over not even paying attention to the video but just thinking about skillshare lol. They should give you a raise!
*Its fascinating that Ancient Egypt, is the only civilization that has so much history, were're still looking for more history to be discovered today in Egypt.*
@ASuperSomali yeah, but that's crazy! I never viewed the ancient Egyptians as being the modern Americanized definitions of black or white. They were their own distinct north african group..
@Bblurre no, that's not true. Black people like us in America today came from west Africa not North East Africa. Groups like the Ethiopians, Lybians, & those from Sudan are closest peoples we have to the ancient Egyptians would have been. & even then their still not accurate...
@@omegaink5635 Ethiopians and Sudanese are nothing like the ancient Egyptians. Whether Blacks of west Africa or mutts of East Africa, none of them are even remotely similar to the ancient Egyptians. Only modern Egyptians are the closest to the ancient Egyptians, especially modern Egyptians in rural areas who are pure literal descendants of the ancient Egyptians, and guess what ? They look nothing like Ethiopians or Sudanese.
