Dravidian is a language group. Most South Indians are a mixture of AASI(Ancestral Ancient South Indian) with people from Zagros. They have some Steppe, some East Asian, Melanasian and North African.
Very well explained about Dravidians and Aryans. If you consider present-day India, there is a third group of people from the Northeast and Himalayan regions with Mongoloid features (I am not using the term in a racist manner) adding to the Indian gene pool. I feel an ancient kinship with Dravidians. My background is Pakistani, specifically from Northeastern Punjab in Pakistan (i.e., the Potohar plateau, area around Rawalpindi) and I see in my people who claim to be a Rajput tribe (but also considered Jats in other parts of Punjab), that we have a wide range of looks that I only see in other mixed-race populations like the Creole of Louisiana or certain Latin Americans. We do not mix with outsiders and tend to marry within the "biraderi" (tribe) therefore all of this diversity is from our ancient ancestry. Some of us are very dark-skinned and have facial features similar to the dark-skinned aboriginal populations of South Asia while others have blue eyes, blond hair, long noses, etc. Most extreme example, I have an aunt who is very dark skinned and she married her father's (my grandfather's) cousin who had blue eyes, fair features, and her children and grandchildren also possess this trait. It's amazing to see them together. When these light skinned children are babies, they honestly looked like the whitest Russians but over time their hair darkens and becomes brunette rather than pure blonde. Most of us are "in-between" looking (i.e., the common look of Northern South Asians - moderately brown skinned, dark haired, dark eyed). The diversity and range of looks is pretty incredible and I think it shows that our people were the result of ancient race mixing. I am sure so-called Dravidian ancestry runs through nearly all of the South Asian populations east of the Indus. The original people of south asia were undoubtedly "dark" (i.e., black).
