All roads may lead to Rome, but all historical roads lead to somewhere in Sumeria if you look hard enough. Welcome to Mesopotamia, the cradle of civilization. From the first empire, to the first collapse, there is a surprising amount of meat on the bones of this historical tale for an era which we know so little about. So let’s reconstruct the dizzying amount of timelines into one relatively cohesive narrative and discover… The History of Mesopotamia.

~4:55 The fact that it was called a Household reminds me of Ancient Egypt, where the ruling palace and its administrators were referred to as the "Great House," or " pr ꜥꜣ (Paruw A'a)" in Egyptian, which is where the word "Pharaoh" is derived from.

Great idea for the video. Remembering the chronology of ancient Mesopotamia (and the whole 'Near/Middle East', including Egypt) is for some reason one of the hardest things for me in studying history. I have a feeling I'll be going back to this video.

''a casual two thousand years '', that's the thing with history. It's unfathomable how long ago some events were. The birth of Jesus was a casual two thousand years ago, and our cultures have changed so vastly. Could you imagine People dividing our time and Jesus' time just by our pottery? It's wild. Tangent aside, I really enjoyed your podcast 😁 new fan here!

Great video but small correction: Sumerian and Akkadian were from completely separate language families. Sumerian was (most likely) an isolate, Akkadian was part of the Semitic language family
