This is what you call reporting. Showing the truth and details, asking questions, transparency, being in there in person to confirm not just haka haka. Our kababayans are happy to see these projects and assure us that the goal of the govt is not just a lip service.
Thankfully, the final question AND (more importantly) the final answer was significant and meaningful. Very sensible answer by Architect Lico.People should also understand that culture, history, heritage, national identity, national pride are VERY important to any independent nation. I'm also happy with how Ms. Drilon handled this documentary/tour. Very objective and candid YET no intentional negativity and no sense of "crab mentality" or "colonial mentality" syndrome. P.S. I just couldn't help but notice the unusual looking shoes of Ms. Drilon.
love the last words of the show... "Buildings like this are just not buildings but they are repository of history cast in stone".. hope someday more Filipinos will be able to differentiate between the panandaliang aliw or lunas and HERITAGE... as history have thought us, embracing HERITAGE and CULTURE are primary ingredients to a successful nation...
I love the line of questioning of Ma'am Cess and how the design consultant answered the questions. Very educational! By the way, I love how Ma'am Cess inspected everything. That's how a good journalist should do!

great job ces! we need more reports such as this. something na nakaka insipre yung meron educational aspect hindi yung puro negative reporting nakakasawa na parang gusto na lahat bumagsak. thank you and congrats for being unique to the rest. more power to you ces. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thank you very much, Ces, for focusing on positivity. Congratulations to the designer and the great artisans, too., for restoring this historical monument.
Dr. Gerard Lico put it all in his words - "Buildings like this is not just a structure it is a repository of history, a history cast in stone/concrete. A structure where Filipinos have something to anchor their identity..." ang galing!!!
Thank you Mam Cess for your being a positive Media woman..., this is a good example for every one to continually support our fellow Filipino people in Local and in around the world....,best wishes to you and God bless ..,God first ...,
The budget was only release july 2019 because of the delay of the national budget approval. In spite of that, they finish it in record time. Ces you are an exception to the present crops of media people, no bias in reporting. No amount of money can equate restoring our heritage that symbols who we are as Filipinos. Shame to the people who are criticizing what the government is doing for the Filipinos, to be proud being a Filipino.

After ng asean ano nganga
So balance reporting and full of vivid information! The vlog was 30mins plus but I was not bored watching it. I was fond of this place but a dilapidated one before ...when I was a rower around early 90's where the athletes facilities also located. It was so bad , I saw where the weightlifting area, possibly Hidilyn Diaz also trained there. The worst part is the athletes dorm...you can see the dimly lit and decrepit area , where they hang their shirts that invites mosquitoes. Imagine , dirty toilets, lightings, poor equipment , etc. And now , I was so amazed of the transformation. Kudos to the Architect preserving the aesthetic of the facility. No more sweats for audiences, since it is equipped with centralized aircon. I hope they will maintain it for many more years to come. So that the future generation will understand the rich history of the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
ITONG GUSTO NG MGA PILIPINO NA REPORT , DAPAT UP-DATE WAG PURO BALITA PURO PATAYAN , KA DRAMAHAN LNG, ANYWAY , THANKS ALOT ANCX AND CES DRILON SA UP-DATE REHABILITATION NG RIZAL MEMORIAL COLISEUM'S ,.SANA MARAMI PA MA UP-DATE ..
It is so good to see new architects are incorporating their designs and conserving the existing design structures. Making some modern innovation to be more updated and comfortable to all patrons. Great job and development!!!
Awesome. I'm glad they didn't sell it. they did a wonderful job. Feel proud of the past. This is priceless. We are beginning to have a sense of identity. Mabuhay!
I was a volunteer PT here back in the 2005 Sea Games, and wow they really did a great job in restoring this landmark. Back then I cannot imagine what athletes of other countries think of the facilities - broken tiles, dingy facilities, dark lighting, etc. Basically, it was not something a Filipino can be proud of.
I remember in college whenever we walk around Rizal stadium to get to Harrison Plaza this place stank and we'd just hold our breath and walk faster. Glad they restored this place but hope they maintain upkeep even after the games.
Good thing we have someone like Mr. Gerard Lico who is very passionate in bringing one of our country's cultural heritage back to it's former glory, can't wait to see it fully restored.
Nice content Ces and team! And Ces made sure thatshe sees for hersef that what’s important are in place and working- running water on the faucets, flushing toilets, robust aircon system, and really decent quarters and facilities befitting the stature of our athletes. Together with the very knowledgeable rep from the contractor company, she also made sure we have a good appreciation of the historical legacy and significance of the Rizal Memorial. Galing!
Restoring old buildings is not about making them new but making new unnecessary. Thanks Ces Drilon for Ces & City. Please feature more historical buildings and new places in the city. I like that it's raw and unedited.
That's true. Rizal Memorial and Vito Cruz was the scene of one of the last stands of the Japanese during WWII in Manila. In fact, so many of Manila's rich people died here. Vito Cruz was where the wealthy lived at the time. We can still see some of their mansions along V Cruz today. They sought refuge in the La Salle compound during the war. But many of them were messacred by the Japanese there when they were found, especially in the DLSU chapel where prayed.
@Cody J so isa isahin mo nga ano daing nila..yes my issue pero its just minimal .. Kc yung organizers they dont know n napaaga sila.. Did you current games.. Its still functioning nmn .. As long the sea games held good than its ok.. Dont tell we are all dutertards .. Cnu binoto mo?
Those who don't look at the past will never achieve what they want in the future. Buildings like these should be maintained and taken care of because it links us to our rich culture of the past.
@Cody J pag totoo wala tayong probs nun, pero daming fake news ngayon, it's not about duterte ang sinasabi ko, about the new government, puro kasi kayo dutertards dilawan kaya di masyado umaasinso bansa natin, do you think na sa comment mo di yan crab mentality?? 👎👎👎
After so many years there was no progress in the Philippines . The government under Duterte is a great success for buliding more facilities and its more progressive. Duterte is building a new city in clark which will be a national pride for every filipinos
I like these two, Ces and the designer are very neutral. Not so formal. They're not focusing on the positve or negative aspects of the stadium only, they're focusing on both sides.
Meron tayong sinasabing symbolic capital, which in a way indirectly affects the economy like in tourism... I like the answer.
Hindi ito fake news for sure (lol). Salamat Mam Ces at sa restoration architect kudos and hats off sa iyo sa malasakit mo about artifacts. God bless you and more power. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas this nation will be great again.
One of the best thing happened for hosting this SEA GAMES in spite the lapses is we have now world class sport facilities and renovated/upgraded rundown a national heritage sports facilities.Take note, it's an investment capital. :-)
I hope more historical buildings in the Philippines will be conserved and preserved for the next generations to come. Maraming Salamat po, Sir Lico and the team sa pagrestore ng Rizal Memorial Coliseum dahil napakayaman naman ang kasaysayan ng gusali na ito.
I had been there way back '97 during my college days para manood ng NCAA at ang pangit at mainit ang place na ito... nakakatuwa na makitang narestore ang ganitong heritage. Nakakaproud.
thanks to fair & truthful reporting! for the people behind this amazing restoration project ...despite the limited time, the creative Filipino minds and hands of all the artisans and help ... you have done this country a big favor! may your tribes increase. God bless the Philippines.
Thank you so much for this thorough feature. Indeed, we should value our culture and heritage places all over our country. It does not only give pride and honor to the people, it also gave more opportunities for our Pinoy experts and workers to showcase their world-class talents.
That museum is great! I would love to see that one day. Everything in there tells the whole story of the building. Hope that is open for the public to see.
As I read the caption mentioning the budget, I expected the content to elaborate how 250M was used detail by detail. It sounds really big... But if we are talking about renovation of a huge and OLD facility with so many problems and constraints, such money becomes just a decent enough cost, not really luxurious. In many cases, renovation costs more expensive than construction from zero.
"History casts in the concrete matter." Thank you Mr. Architect. Thank you Ces. These critics would like to demolish even the Filipino spirit as a nation.
Good job, 100% thumps up. thank you for sharing this Ces. it will boast to our athlete moral. kudos to all the teams from workers to the top. we salute you guys.
“Is there water?do you leave this ugliness?”hahaha!good job ma’am ces for making sure even little things are not taken for granted!sana a private sector will maintain the stadium kasi pg govt, masisira ng mabilis at walang magme-maintain ng maayos!masasayang lng ang pera ng taong bayan pg masisira agad.frustrating kasi pg nakikita na walang preventive maintenance!
Wires were installed in the bleacher section as if spectators were caged as an aftermath of violent NCAA basketball games. Ateneo lost to San Beda in a closed door game which led to their departure from the league. Followed by La Salle a few years later. This feature-interview is very informative. The guy knows a lot. This is very good material for students of Architecture and Interior Design.

With this posting from ANCX and the first hand account of Ms Ces Drillon and the very enlightening and educational narrative given by Architect Lico, hopefully the "utak talangka" na Pilipino will appreciate that history, art and culture is as important aspect of nation's growth and identity as the food we ate and things we owned. Salamat na lang may ganitong klaseng tao (Pilipino) like Arch. Lito and those from PSC and PAGCOR. So contrary to some media that reported this facilities are not ready yet is false news. Because this is actually separate conservation work not intended for SEA Games.
For the "HINDI NAMAN NAKAKAIN 'YAN." believers : "SYMBOLIC CAPITAL" "Ang pinakamahalaga dito is that yung Filipino, that they have something to anchor their identity. Buildings like these are not just buildings but a repository of history. They are history cast in stone - cast-in reinforced concrete for that matter." - Gerard Lico, Conservation Architect
