I know your barter wasn’t planed, but it is one of my favorite things to do. I make different kinds of all natural homemade herbal hot processed soap and I barter with that all the time. For herbs I can’t grow, or labor around the house(I am 72 and need some help[ sometimes). So you were definitely blessed..

In 2020 my tomato crop failed (due to walnut contamination from wood chips). I pride myself thinking I was a tomato pro, and it was HARD asking friends for help filling my shelves. Thank God that I did, because it solidified old friendships, and taught me a beautiful lesson in humility. Fast forward to 2023, and I’m sharing more tomatoes than I ever had before!

I've made rehydrated tomato skins from DEHYDRATED, and its been great, so yes, skins get dehydrated and ground to powder...IT WORKS! You were blessed by that person, but you gotta redo that soil, they come back...move tomatoes someplace else...don't feed the worms with stuff they eat, lol It'll be okay...❤

Absolutely! That's the kind of neighbor we want, and should be! A few years ago, my tomatoes didn't do well, and my friend had so many, she didn't know what to do with them all! There have been times I've had an abundance to share, and times others have shared with me. My friend and I are trying to practice bartering with each other, so we know how to do it. But mostly, it's about thinking more highly of others than ourselves, as the Lord would have it.

It is amazing what we waste in the US. I grew up on a working farm with grandparents who still did all of their own butchering and canning for food for the entire year. What I have learned more recently is that other cultures use parts of plants that we see as waste. Example: sweet potato vines. Since a sweet potato is not a nightshade, the leaves/vines are edible. The leaves have more nutrients than kale. Can cook them like any other greens (taste like mustard or turnip greens) or eat them fresh in a cold salad.

Have a wonderful week Honeystead Family.😁 🤔I'll bet you should use those frenzied skins for making ketchup. 🤣Last year you were shoving them in the freezer because you was over ran with maters. Plant borage along with the next crop of tomatoes. I have been studdying alot on the herbalism side of things... I really wish I could remember which herbalist wrote the article i read, but they said they no longer have any hornworms bothering their crops, now that they interplant tomatoes side by side with borage.

You may want to think about planting sweet alyssum. It attracts the Bracketed Wasps. They lay their eggs on the horn worms and the larvae consume the Horn worms and any aphids. Hope this helps.

I haven’t canned tomatoes since I got my freeze dryer. I place fresh in roaster cooking until soft blend in my ninja and freeze dry (4 cups per tray). When done I powder and place in small Mylar bags. I can add a little water for paste more for sauce more for soup and even more for juice. Love that is so versatile takes up so little space and I have retained all the nutrients!

I remember when I was a kid! Ladies would try pressure canning their tomatoes. They would come asking mom how she was able to put up jars and jars of tomatoes. Mom would tell them! Get rid of the pressure canner and use the water bath method instead! Ps: Mother never removed the rings on her canning jars.

It's sad when people only have negative things to say to others. Crap happens. We are all learning and im a believer that things happen for a reason and it's always a lesson we need to learn. From what I understand planting Basil with tomatoes keeps the boogers away. I haven't done it but it doesn't hurt to at least try. My nemesis is the sqush bugs. I haven't had squach in 2 years. Focusing on soil improvement is an excellent idea. After you run your chickens through the area, maybe you could try a winter cover crop before you plant anything else. It sure couldn't hurt, and if you pick the right one, it might even work as chicken feed or something.
