I have a great idea that I hope you consider. What about offering your tincture and tea making classes online as well? You could film it while you’re doing the class and maybe offer a kit that they could buy in advance or a list of items they could buy. Then, people could make the tea or tinctures from home. I’m not one to fly or travel great distances, but it sounds like a great learning and teaching experience for all. I think you could offer them either live or on demand for a fee.
@TheHoneystead oh man I would so love to learn some so if you offer it. Sign me up right now my son had break thru seizure and suffering great anxiety I would so love to be able to meet u all but since this happened online would be offered as well.
What about using vegetable glycerin instead of oil to make tinctures for salves etc? I have cucumber in vg in my fridge and thought of doing same with comfrey and jewelweed keeping it cold til I add to topical recipes that have natural preservatives in them.
You could do that, but it makes more of a mess... With practice you don't lose anything going right into jar .. goal is not to disturb or lose any essence...but your in control...breathe ....
I have heard yarrow can be processed into a powder to help with bleeding. Is a powder better or is it better to leave it in larger pieces? Or perhaps a salve? I have a little yarrow this season and just wonder what everyone thinks is the best way to process it.
I love that you shared how passion flower got its name. As a Christian, I think sometimes herbalism gets lumped in with neo-pagan beliefs and people forget that many early Christians were herbalists.
I happen to be going hard with lemon balm for my mom’s shingles right now. Internally as a tea and externally on her shingles. I brewed a fresh infusion really strongly. Use cotton balls to apply to the rash. She is experiencing a dramatic difference. No other thing including meds have helped. Lemon balm is antiviral and works amazing for shingles, cold sores, etc. lovely video!!!!
Ladies, wanted share with you how much your openness has touched my heart. I’ve taught “wild walks” for many years now, and have hit highs and lows. We went thru a period of family illness and I stopped. When our Carrie finally passed, I began to think of starting up again. Yet I was afraid. You video about fear inspired me to begin again. The response was wonderful! So many folks said how they’d missed doing them…like you said in this one… it’s about sharing Faith and love of the natural world. Thank you dear ones! 💕🌸
The Story you tell is Different from the one I have heard. The Three stamen reprecent the Father, Son, Holy Ghost. The 5 stamen, represent the 5 loafs of bread that fed the 5 thousand people, the purple represents the first miracle where Jesus turned water in to wine. Then there is the Crown of thorns, and last the 10 petals represent the 10 comandments. It's One of Gods most beautiful flowers.
My 6 year old has anxiety especially when it comes to school. So i make him lemon balm syrup and suckers to help him. 😁 Kaylee!! I've done them with honey, it's more like a ferment and works well. 😉 Good luck. ❤
Would like to know how you do this my son has epilepsy and struggles greatly after a break thru seizure and hates take so many meds and what way he wouldn't know the sucker form he wouldn't think mom was trying give him some old leaf or that sugar stuff I put on honey. Lol that was sugar stuff that I gave was firecider ...now every time he asks when give honey u didnt mix it with awful tasting stuff did u....a sucker would better way
I have passion flower growing wild here in SC, I was so excited to know it has medicinal properties, I’ve been messing with herbs for years, these past few years started growing my own.
U have made almost the same tincture combination a week ago. Only I have added St Johns wort. (hope my spell is correct). I have been using it from time to time and very happy with result. Huge insomniac since the beginnig of menopause and peri menopause. It has been a Nightmare. Hope this helps more people like me.
Very cool! I have a ton of lemon balm (for a container gardener) and I have been wanting to make my own lemon balm tincture. Do you have a link to the video that shows the rest of the process? 😀
Do you know any herbalists that reside in Georgia? I would love to find someone locally. I can't travel very far, my legs and back do not allow it. Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of information. ♥
Thank you for the great information. I am currently about half way through the sit & shake process of my ginger and feverfew tinctures. First attempt at ever making a tincture, so I need to get some more apple cider vinegar - I misjudged how much my herbs would soak up the liquid (using dried herbs). Super excited to start using them for my migraines and arthritic pain.
Hi! I am really enjoying your channel. I found you a few weeks ago. As a "retired" nutritionist and believer in herbal medicine, I've been re-excited to pay closer attention to what medicinal herbs I do have growing (quite a few)--and get them processed. A question for you: when you give your ratios is this by volume or weight? For example 1:4, would that be one cup of herb to four parts vodka/glycerin? Thanks in advance.
I'm always cutting myself accidentally and yarrow has been my go to for first aid for years. Works wonders, even for the female reproductive system and periods! Love me some Yarrow! 💕
Dearest Kaylee, when you have a small wound like you showed, saliva is a very natural wound healing agent. It is not without reason that animals immediately lick a wound. Mother nature has helped us a lot on our way.
You have encouraged me to forage 😊 I was amazed at the abundance of useable plants we found just in our back yard! From catnip to plantain and wild lettuce! The kids had so much fun examining the plants and looking them up to identify. They want to go for a walk now to see what else we can find. Thank you for your encouragement and your laid back attitude it really helps to have fun with it!
We have a dog that broke his nail off and it started to bleed. I ran to get my dried yarrow and moistened it and put it on his nail bed and the bleeding stopped immediately! I was amazed! I have lemon balm growing in a pot and I'm going to go make a tincture with it now because you inspired me! Thanks! Love your videos!
RU-vid is starting to ban health related videos way more than they were. Will you be able to create another non restrictive place for your videos if need be. You have great content!
Love your channel and information that you provide. Looking to do a temperature for rosemary and another one for oregano. With alcohol. Can I ask what the ratio is and what are the benefits and how to use ? From Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks to you, I ordered passion flower seeds and planted them and am just waiting for them to bloom. I did harvest a few leaves and it helped my anxiety! Thank you! It’s such a beautiful vining plant. Going to plant way more next spring 🥰
I use my immersion blender also. It is super simple and easier to clean than a full size blender. And if you have multiple heads for it you can easily go between your tinctures with out contamination.
@TheHoneystead Please please please DONT macerate your plant material with a immersion blender, it isn't needed! The alcohol+plant process has been working together for millennia, they dont need to be obliterated and forced apart. By doing this you are not only destroying the plant material and potentially breaking up important compounds, you are bringing OXYGEN into the mixture which also corrupts the medicinal properties, which we don't want. Let the plants and alcohol do their magic dance by themselves! Thank you for your videos, I have been enjoying watching someone else whose so passionate about herbalism and medicinal herbs.
Thank you for this great video! When you make an oil infused with fresh herbs and leave it covered with cheese cloth rather than sealing it, what do you do then since you really can’t “shake it” each day? Do you just let it be? Do you open it and stir it up each day? Thank you for your great content.
This is awesome to learn how to tincture the passionflower. I don't have any fresh around here... can you use dried herbs? What ratio would that be? Thank you again!!!!
Thank you my son came back from Iraq with ptsd. I’m trying to find things he could take when he can’t get his meds from the V.A. which has happened twice. He had to be hospitalized for three days because of the gap in his meds. I would like to be able to find a way to replace his meds altogether. I’m not sure if that is possible or not but I would like to try.
Are critters like rabbits or gophers an issue in your medicinal garden? I really want to create something like this at my home in SoCal but those are my two biggest non-bug nemeses!
I have been messing around with honey….. the dry vs fresh ratio is where I struggle the most. Do you have Any tips or tricks you have discovered using honey as far as that dry to fresh ratio goes???
When you say you strain the passion flower after 30 days, do you strain out the leaves and flower and the tincture itself is what is absorbed in the vodka? How much should you sip? thank you for your informative videos.
I have plenteous bulbous buttercup. According to my research, that is also really good for shingles. I'm currently brewing a tincture and oil specifically for that.
Jess @ Roots & Refuge Farm reccomended your channel today just as i was looking for some herbal advise. 👍 I love lemon balm and was looking for info on preparing it properly for preservation. What good timing! Thank you for the great lesson. One question, in washing the passion flower, doesnt that wash off the pollen too? I dont think I ever thought of washing off rhe flower.
A friend uses Cherry Brandy instead of Vodka when making Lemon Balm tincture- it certainly taste better than vodka but are there disadvantages I should be considering when using Cherry Brandy?
I have both of these in my garden can't wait to try it . Can you use the immersion blender with any of the tinctures? I started one with golden rod flowers but completely forgot to chop them up first.
I watched a video you did where you used a tray in your freeze dryer that looked like ice cube tray. Where did you get that? I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks ahead of time.
Thank you so much for this video, you are such an Amazing teacher.❤ I'm so sorry you stabbed your hand, ouch😢 but that is pretty sweet how yarrow works with cuts😊
Want to learn so much more about herbs mainly to help the heath struggles we face in out home. My son has epilepsy from awful rare genetic mutation. And we thougbt we had his seizure under control until last monday. Bless his hear he has alot that goes against him but he blessed so many ways to!! Want to kearn all i can and loce ur herbal teas you had last year.
Hi you have really enlighten me on the herbs. I had a question about making the salves, can you make them with just essential oils and coconut oil as the carrier and beeswax?
I love your videos. I have learned so much from your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I wished I had all this information years ago. Your never too old to learn though.. This is my third year with planting Lemon Balm, but my first year to finally harvest it. I have been drying it. I have never made a tenture but it is on my list. I have made a couple different types of salve this year. This is even my first year to really forage and I have several things I have dried out. I want to learn more but with working full time, it is hard to get into a class. I know online courses would be the best option. I love essential oils. I know I do not grow enough to invest in an essential oil press but I have been looking at them. That would be awesome if you did that.
Great video as usual. I would imagine moonshine was used quite a bit back in the day. ;). The ancestors knew a lot more about medicine than we do now. 👍
Acts 1:3 KJV To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
