"And what do you sacrifice?" "Calm. Kindness, kinship. Love. I've given up all chance at inner peace. I've made my mind a sunless place. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion; I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my...my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my...what is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy, to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? Everything!"

That monologue that Luthen gave at the end of Episode 10 was truly incredible and the best I ever heard in Star Wars history. It reminded me of the "All those moments will be lost in time......like tears in rain" scene in Blade Runner!!

Totally agree Jerry. Stellan is an incredible actor and we just have to appreciate the limit time we have with him in Star Wars. But overall the writing has been top notch, the worlds feel loved in and the characters are all fleshed out. Andor has raised the bar in terms of Star Wars TV.

It was 'the spies missive', accepting the fact you fight for a world that you will never be able to be a part of because of what youve done. Sacrifice your soul for a distant goal that you will never see.

As an adult, I find Mon Mothma's daughter grating, but considering she's only 13, incredibly sheltered, being manipulated by her father, and is at the right age to feel how many things are wrong with her situation AND it looks like her mother is having an affair? Honestly it would be bizarre if she wasn't acting out. I was prepared for Mon to be squeamish about criminal connections, but kudos to the writing for hitting Mothma where I can't really blame her: the trauma of being in a teenage arranged marriage where she now hates her partner, then being asked to repeat the cycle.

The Chandrilan mobster may indeed be a scumbag, but I think he'll have a role to play in the story (and perhaps even a vital one). As sketchy as he is, he's clearly an astute, intelligent and resourceful fellow, who possesses incredible wealth and knows how to dodge The Law. He could be a great asset to the rebellion going forward, if Mothma can get him on-side. And I'd pay good money to see him interact with Luthen.

Stellan Skarsgard is the greatest actor that has ever stepped into a Star Wars movie. This dude deserves an Emmy for this performance.

Even if you were not a Star Wars fan you can appreciate this story for the psychological thriller it is. It just happens to take place in the Star Wars world. For example this could easily be a World War II thriller, change the uniforms, Allies underground etc.

Exactly Buddy, remember the writer Tony Gilroy isn’t a Star Wars fan but is an amazing writer.

I loved the episode, the best one so far, Andor has changed a lot, and he no longer hesitates to shoot an enemy on the ground, a huge change from the first episode, although he still doesn't kill in cold blood except if absolutely necessary. The prison escape is also the first operation that Andor creates and directs instead of being a member of the group. In addition, the empire creates an army of enemies in that prison, gives them order, structure, uniforms, teaches them to march and obey and act as a unit instead of individuals, leaders, hierarchy, discipline and most important of all, a reason to the rebellion The moment someone sees through the lie the entire imperial system falls apart. The more they oppress the more and more enemies they create, until they cannot subdue them all, it is a vicious circle that the Empire itself creates and from which it is unable to escape. It is also the episode of the great speeches, where both Kino and Luthen shine in their scenes. Both excellent characters and they can both go very far, but they will never reach the end of the path, they can only help others to make that path.

Beautifully put David. Probably our favourite one yet too. Both speeches were impactful

The One Way Out really does apply to multiple situations. Obviously for the prisoners, but also Mon Mothma is now in a situation where she practically HAS to marry off her daughter if she wants the rebellion to work. Luthen’s message to Lonnie is the same - he only has one way out and that’s to die serving the rebellion. It’s impossible for him to just give up.

This show is fukin phenomenal, the 4 main dialogue scenes of Andor rallying Kino, Mon with the gangster (that was Game of Thrones sh1t with him trying to get Mons daughter), Kinos monologue over the tannoy and finally that stunning monologue from Luthen, this is the best acting and dialogue in Star Wars, ever. The monologue at the end made me emotional for 2 reasons, the obvious one being the meaning behind it all, but the second reason (and this might make me a pussy) was the pure joy of seeing/hearing my favourite franchise being given the care, attention and weight that it truly deserves (I think a wee bit of dust might have got in my eye during that last monologue) I love The Mandalorian, its the show that finally got my daughter into Star Wars and its the show we sit and watch as a family huddled up on the couch in wonder. Andor I watch in the man-cave on my own with a wee smoke and i just fukin eat it up, it feels like this one is made just for me.

Yeah man, the dialogue and acting in this episode was absolutely top tier. I've always thought one of the best bits of acting seen in Star Wars was actually in the Jyn/Galen hologram scene in Rogue One, but I honestly think Stellan is right up there with that speech scene. One of the other commenters nailed it with the comparison to Rutger Hauer's tears in rain speech from Blade Runner. Well, there's no excuses for another poor Star Wars film now. They've shown what can be achieved on Disney Plus, with this and the Mandalorian to an extent. Hire the correct people that understand the universe and its rules, with a proper and coherent story to tell, get the right actors on board (which isn't difficult) and the malaise surrounding Star Wars and the fans post-ST will disappear. We pretty much said the same thing, in that this feels like its directed specifically at the older half of the fandom. It's gritty, visceral and more mature. Which is necessary with a guy like Cassian, the boots on the ground story and rebellious time it's exploring. The Mandalorian is great in its own way, but definitely more multi-demographic, lighter and crowd pleasing.

It’s been fun watching you boys go from “ah we’re not back here again” when we went back to ferix in episode 7 to “there’s no boring storylines” here. Doing a rewatch now and I’ve been surprised how much more I enjoyed the earlier episodes second time round. There isn’t any filler, every detail is purposeful and sometimes you only notice that when you know what’s coming

Yeah, I think it was more the onslaught of Scottish/English accents every time they went back for me. Nothing brings on the cringe for a Scot more than hearing their own accent in a film or TV show. Absolutely horrendous. But honestly, minor accent quibbles aside, this is right up there with the first two films for me. The acting, the story, the politics, everything is just exquisitely handled.

I never said I didn’t enjoy the rest of the episodes at any point, I’m not sure if there’s been something lost in translation or what? On the contrary, barring maybe a slow second episode (and even that was fine), I’ve loved every bit of this show so far. 👍🏻
