A few clips of the very nice looking Andover Norton Factory Racer Head Steady on George’s beautiful Commando.
Our friend Dennis noticed that George's engine had some excessive movement after watching the Tech Day video and contacted George who investigated and then purchased this really nice looking head steady.
It apparently brings a whole different feel to the bike. A little more vibration, but offset by a steadier feel. I'll try to report back after George has had a test ride.

I have one of the original "Norvil" racing head steady assemblies on my bike from 1973. It's a little different in details but is quite similar -- this one looks very solid and well-made. That reminds me that I need to check the shimming. While I have it apart, I'll check to see if it's practical to convert it to the vernier type (all the buffers and shim parts are stock pieces used in the production Isolastic components).

The Isolastics need adjustable spacers which fixes most of the wobble. Beautiful bike!

Thanks Sid. George has also just done his isolastics, so his bike should be wobble-free from now!

Is there any noticeable difference in handling with this racing head steady fitted over the standard head steady, Am giving my Commando a big birthday at the moment and thinking about fitting one of these.

Hi Mike, George said he did notice a difference. He told me that it feels harder and actually vibrates a little more at lower revs, but he’s made some adjustments and he said that it definitely improved the handling at higher speeds. I would be happy to ask George other questions if you have any Best wishes, Mike.

Hi Mike, it's me again. Im starring at this bike for several weeks and I just love how it loojs like. Do you know what kind of tank ans seat/pan this is... Specially where it's possible to buy? 😊 Just awesome! Cheers David

David Bogusch Hi David, the tank was originally from a Norton "Interpol" police motorcycle. George cut out a recessed panel that was in the top of the tank that held the police radio and then welded it all up again. The seat pan was custom-made and no longer available unfortunately. It's stunning isn't it!? It's done 25,000 miles since George rebuilt the engine.
