:20 is probably one of the most iconic images that’s ever been produced in the history of wrestling. Certainly one of the most emotional seeing as they’re both gone now. Such a big night in the history of professional wrestling.
Always wondered if the waving was planned, or if he was just overcome by the size of the crowd and the magnitude of the event, that he just couldn’t help but wave. He was the heel here, waving to the crowd like he’s doing is not a very heelish move. Some people think he waved as a way of mocking the people throwing trash. Idk I like to think even the Giant was in awe of what he was taking part in.
I never really thought about that but now that you mentioned it I wonder if it was for the reasons you mentioned or if Andre just did it out of habit. Reason being is that to my knowledge he was babyface his whole career aside from maybe playing a heel here or there in certain territories so this may have been the first match in his career or at the very least first in a long time where he'd come out to a crowd that didn't adore him but instead loathed him.
It's called heat dude.... people literally wanted to see Hogan destroy him for ripping the hearts and souls of all the Little Hulksters and aligning himself with someone as evil as Bobby Heenan
