For sure, they still need real football personalities to come on because in one conversation they'd have a better understanding of it. Theyre slowly getting there, but just talking to people who actually watch consistently would bring them a lot closer.
Some corrections, Ronaldo is going to earn $200 million per season (75 mils for playing and the rest from sponsorship). He signed a 2.5-season deal, so he will earn around $450 million. I believe the sponsorship deal lasts longer but essentially he will make more in 2.5 years than he did in the past 16 years. To put it into perspective, that's around 500K a day for 2.5 years.
Totally agree but its misleading to say he'll earn more in 2 years than 16. He reached $1 Billion Dollars in 2020 in career earnings. Still incredible money for 2 years of playing though.

Actually his decline started at Juventus, hell even a few years before that, it's just his stats hid it from people. Most people don't actually watch him play they just check to see if he scored otherwise they'd have all noticed this.
The difference between the US teams and the Euro teams is that the US teams are concerned about just making money while the Euro teams are worried way more about making money and also winning games

The argument about Bill Russell that Andrew makes is literally the same argument that can be made against Pele's 3 World Cup titles. There were MUCH less teams at the world cup back then. A lot of players played football part time back then. Also, Pele was injured for most of one of those world cups and it was really Garrincha who led Brazil to that world cup. And another world cup, Pele mostly came off the bench.

There's a season we count the official goals and not whatever his club and he himself comes up with especially since he constantly changes that number once his record was broken. So no, he ain't all that. @@josiasjr1512 Even if all of that is true, it doesn't debunk the fact that Garrincha was the one who actually carried Brazil to one of those World Cups and that Pele played mostly from the bench for another World Cup. No one is taking anything away from Pele but he ever played in Europe and a TON of those goals came from exhibition games. Still great player though but I doubt he'd be as dominant in today's game.

But just as an example, Pelé was not the best player in all three world cups, he was a teenager who broke into the team late into the tournament in the first and in the second he missed the majority of the tournament to injury. In his third he was the best, unmatched. And it’s also worth noting that that era was the golden generation of Brazilian soccer, immensely talented squad top to bottom, guys like Garrincha, Riveliño, Gerson, Jairzinho, Carlos Alberto, Tostao we’re all world class players.
It’s funny when Andrew said soccer is blowing in America. The last time that I have heard about American soccer is when zaltan joined LA galaxy. I would even argue Saudi football is even more popular than American soccer at this moment given the fact they beat Argentina in World Cup.
Just like most sports in America it's still highly regional. Even the NFL has pockets where it isn't as popular. So soccer blowing up in America is much different than other countries.

nah man, he wanted to play champions league and not one team in the champions league wanted him (most of Ronaldos income stems from ad deals, joursey rights, the right to his pictures etc anyway). With Al-Nassr he might actually get the opportunity to play champions league next year, because they own newcastle united and discussed for Ronaldo to go to Newcastle in case they make it to the next cl season. But their coach apparently already declined.

Most big players at his age goes to some other league outside europe, this is nothing new. Zlatan beckham henry everyone did so why cant he. And if you see it with a clear mind he played great last season, this half a season he didnt perform. He got to play only 1 full game in the 10 appearances for ManU this season.
A lot of people are thinking about this in soccer terms, when they should be thinking about it in business terms. Ronaldo has, for all intents and purposes, retired from football. Yes, he will be playing in Saudi Arabia for the next two years, but his real role is to generate positive publicity and tourism/advertising revenue for the country. He has already achieved more than almost any other player on the pitch, now he is transitioning to the second phase of his life which is will defined by how successful his business deals are off the pitch, and this is a pretty good start (~$500M over 2.5 years!)
Cristiano didn't prepare his transition to old age well. Which makes sense, because prior to everyone saying things was going downhill, he was lighting up the Serie A. The only reason he left Juve is because he was too expensive for them. At that moment, Cristiano should have realized that his wage demands are too high to attract suitors. Next would be his playstyle. He can't maintain high intensity for long periods of time, therefore he either should have focused on becoming a targetman or do what Zlatan and Giroud did and become a supersub.
I don't know why everyone is talking like he has suddely become a 50 yr old. The same Ronaldo score like 25 goals last season. The only difference this season is Ten hag doesn't like Ronaldo's attitude. I won't be surprised if he returns to europe and scores 30 goals a season.
@Steve He isn't bad. The problem is that he's absolutely obsessed with being the focal point and wants to play CL football. A lot of the CL tier clubs either have their own focal point already or are building their team around a young player so that they can be their focal point. That combined with high wage demands has severely limited Cristiano's options. And the fight he's had with United + how he was benched in this WC has only made him look even worse
I wish he stayed in Europe with a pay cut but this deal is a win-win for all parties. Ronaldo gets his money's worth, Saudi gets global marketing from Ronaldo brand, Ronaldo also has the chance to impact Asia and middle eastern nations, giving football exposure and influence to the young people there. Much more influential than going to US.
Jordan in Charlotte was Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia. Both possess amazing skills, hardest worker and killer instinct. If he handled the ManU exit better he would have had more choices. Unfortunately for him the World Cup didn’t help him either.

Actually he according to one of his friends and reporter he had offers from 5 top European teams and then Brazil, Portugal and USA. But he earned about €30M at United and no one wanted to pay him that and he wasn’t really lowering his wage expectations unless he played for Real Madrid. At the end of the day everything played a part.. top clubs no paying him, not promising he was gonna be a starter every game, and the €200M contract.. he is 38 now and he knows this is the last big contract he’s ever gonna get so it’s understandable even though it would have been great to see him retire in an elite club. Managers want strikers to defend and at 38 no one is fit enough to run that much. What's weird is that Messi doesn't defend either but gets no criticism for it. There was a guy called the butcher of Bilbao who literally ended players careers through injury . He broke Maradona’s ankle and out for a year . He ended Bernard S career . The two footed tackle was only banned in the early 2000’s
