Don't cut the factory wires. Find a harness that plugs into the connector like a Metra 70-8114 for the 2004 Lexus RX330 and many other Toyota vehicles. Cut the wires on the Metra interface and wire into them. Then simply plug it in. The other thing you can do is tap into the wires, but don't cut them off like in this video. Use Posi-taps to tap into the wires, any other taps are junk! Another thing you can do is buy a second harness and move some of the wires over to the other harness so you can wire up the SWC. Why they don't include these wires in harnesses in the year 2022 is beyond frustrating!!!!
one year with my head unit, the guy that installed it said the steering wheel buttons won't work. just connected like us said , worked like magic. thank you so much.
Finally someone who has figured this out. I bought the Crux SWRTY 61 and wasn't able to get the controls to work properly. Gonna pull the head unit tomorrow and fix this. Every other video on the net and every Google search omits this info about the two wire systems. One guy did a tutorial and didn't even show the connections made. Thank you so much 👍👏.
I’ve tried to find a way to connect my SWC(Universal) in my 2012 Toyota Prius Version II but I haven’t been able to yet... (I’m using a JVC KW-M180BT) turns on and everything, but it stays in red/green flashing light, which indicates that it was not possible to connect and I need to connect something else(only red intermittent)... the red cable with red are connected, the black cable with black are already connected, the audio jack is already connected with its respective adaptor... apparently I must connect one of the many remaining cables to the steering wheel control of the vehicle and I don’t want to make a mistake in which one... does anyone know?
Dude you are amazing thank you thank you thank you. I was able to get my steering wheel controls working in less than 10 minutes! You are the man for figuring this out and sharing it!
thanks Erik this is real great info. I updated my 2004 4runner and the special cable from Red Wolf did not work. Now I have the correct info I hope to make it work. Cheers
this worked on my 2007 sienna,, I found an old Axxess interface so that saved time to but this video super helpful- already had kye wires selected, just needed to flip my kye1-2 wires and it worked, some newer radios don't have steering gnd, but not a problem thank you a ton
I've searched for hours and finally came across this. Dude you nailed it! Thanks so much! You saved me more headache and having to waste $70 on a swc wiring adapter. Works perfect! Have you heard of any ways to program two functions for a single button through a short/long press? I'd like to be able to seek through stations and songs, but maybe I'm just being greedy! Thanks again! Oh yea I did this with an Atoto S8 Pro.

Man, thank you very much. I was so close to buying a bluetooth steering wheel control. I was wondering what key 1 and key 2 wires were for. Freaking customer service was no help at all. It's like they didn't even know what they were selling. No instructions in the box of course. I have a 2013 Kia Optima by the way. Thanks again.
Dont know if anyone gives a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my girlfriend these days xD
I have the Atoto A6 and here were my wire mappings: Atoto Steering Wheel Control # (+) goes to Toyota Purple and White Atoto BLACK GROUND goes to Toyota White/Red stripe Atoto Steering Wheel Key + to Toyota Yellow/Black line
I did this and in both my '09 Tacoma and '12 sienna only 3 of the five buttons work (Volume + and -, and the down arrow) Up arrow and mode buttons are not recognized. Any ideas?
I just got the AuCar 12" Android 11 installed in my 2005 Tacoma, and the SWC is the only thing not working. I wired in an Axxess SWC module many years ago... seems I don't even need that anymore?
Great video man.i just got my joying unit.tried to figure out swc, bought a useless $50 maestro module. This video made it easy! Took me longer to get unit out undo the maestro, with your video like 5 mins. 👌 keep up good work.
Awesome video! My android radio only has Key1 and Key2, no Steering Gnd. The controls from the car needed 3 cables. How do I connect the steering to the player? Perodua Myvi.
@@farizamie Baru ni tgk ada solution. Kalau steering pakai 3 wayar, hitam mmg Negative Ground. Key1 & Key2 tu nanti leh tekan pastu Re-map balik dlm android menu.
I may have to try this with our 2008 Sienna. Got a newer Android 10 head unit with all wiring pre-wired from the company. The SWC didnt work with that wiring harness😂. Guess Ill have to cut the wires that come from the radio and hard wire them to the vehicle like you did. Thank You for this video!
Hi Erik the connector of my toyota fortuner 2009 wire coding was purple red, red, white and blue. (4 wire). Can you help me how I will connect KEY1 and KEY 2 steering wires of my China made android head unit? Where will I connect Key 1 and Key 2? thanks
Very similar to my 2013 scion tc. The 20 pin connector has 3 wires pin 6,7,8. 6 is ground 7, 8 are the signal. Will be splicing this week thanks this video was helpful.
dear friend, I am from GREECE the video is wonderful and it helps a whole world of toyota wires 3. the connection is done properly. but 4 cables are coming out of the Android radio. you can see 3 cables. the quadruple that tells me that I connect it ??? I do as I say, but the radio over a cable
close for me, but no go. my 2012 corolla has a 28 pin harness. I can't seem to find the steering wheel control wires on my corolla harness. any tips or hints how to dig that out would be appreciated.
I have only 2 wires comes only 2 one is Key 1 and another one Key 2 , i had 2013 Camry Se these are wires coming extra out from main power of supply android radio 2 din head
Hi . If you dont mind to help me, i have 2din stereo with 1 wire connection form the stereo but my stearing wheel connection have 4 wires..how can i connect it with some steering wheel controller adaptor?
Bro if it did drove you crazy for few minutes... i got crazy since i got the head unit 😅 I have a different car but the same Chinese head unit with the same swc programming... and i couldn't program it at all .. can you just make a video about it or maybe send me a link about programming the swc with this system!! Please .. I'd rly appreciate some help with this.
My canbus from Chinese deck has 3 wires; black, green, white. My strong wheel in my 2012 Corolla is also different. And of course the deck doesn't have any key terms on wiring .. any ideas on which pins i connect to the green, black, and white
first gen tundra uses that wheel atleast the limited does , thanks man looking to do an andriod , I have aftermarket deck now and used interface for the controls works great for the deck I have for now until I make the change
My advice would be to search the internet for the wiring diagram for the factory stereo and steering wheel controls for that vehicle and see if you can figure out which colors you're looking for then you just going to have to mix and match those wires that you find until they work for and I don't know what else to tell you bud
can you explain to me what are the wire that you are using off your oem harnest. my China android has a key one (pink) key two (orange) brown (back). my 05 tundra has the same steering wheel but different colors wires and different connector for the steering wheel control buttons
A six here's what I found In 2005, the colors were Violet - White Term 7D SW1 White Red term 6D SWG Yellow Black Term 8D SW2 Should be that SWG is ground, and depending on what button you push, you should see a different resistance level.
@@RonBurgundyForPresident the swc are not recognized at all by the system. I'm also using a canbus that should be made for my car: I have a "key 1" cable that is cutted and not plugged anywhere and two wires that are coming from the canbus (pink and black) that have no any lable.....it's a disaster 😂 Here you can see the video I sent to the seller ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z1t5nm4UYhU.html
Hi, need help here. I don't have extra harness with 3 wires on corolla 2005 UK. But there's a harness (not used with android HU) that used to display fuel/mile consumption with total of 10 colours. Any chance 3 of those cables are SW control?
@@RonBurgundyForPresident Hi thanks for replying. Found diagram and it's pin 6: GND (GND), pin 7: SW1 (KEY2) & pin 8: SW2 (KEY1). Taken www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/107253-steering-wheel-control-facts/?tab=comments#comment-1023848. Found another blog showing the same diagram but was on pirius model. Anyway will try later first without splicing. Edit: yes it does work!!! My android HU only had one ground wire and once tapped into that from Pin6, all working. Bye bye CD :-) & thanks man for the video.
Hi Erik, can you explain what are the yellow/black and the purple/white cables that you connected to "KEY 1 and KEY 2" i don't have a Toyota, but my Aftermarket Android PX3 HU. has like your those two key's cables and i can't get it to work with my Chevy HHR after trying and seeking overall . Thanks in advance.
Hey what did you end up doing? I have a 2012 Malibu and I’m trying to get it to work as well without an interface.... I don’t have a ground wire... just key 1 and 2
Hi, i ended up so: first: the reference 10 volt wire from SW to ground, second: the SWC signal wire to KEY 1 and it works fine, no need any CAN BUS interface. Don forget to config the SWC buttons on your HU. Okej the Ground you can take your cars¨s ground.
I know this is while ago but I think I have the same issue. My new stereo harness wiring guide has a single (brown) wire that is labelled Steering Wheel Control. I'm planning on grounding the first wire to the harness ground wires, the black ones (do you foresee any issues with that?). Then connect the second to this brown SWC wire. The third, since I don't have another wire on my stereo harness, I am just going to cap off and leave. any suggestions!??
Hey bro mine was not the JBL from factory. I believe the wiring harness I used came with the stereo but it was so long ago now I really can't remember.
I’m upgrading my Toyota Camry factory unit with the navigation DVD player unit I have the JBL wiring harness I got everything to work but the steering wheel controls not working there should be a way to make that thing work without buying any more adapters isn’t there
Hey man! Video is great, but i have one question. How did you connect the wires from the android device to the wires of the steering wheel ? I'm trying to install mine at the moment and I have the exact same steering wheel as yours!! Thanks :)
if you can help me. It only carries one cable from Android and the other 3 cables are connected to the 3 cables that come out of Toyota. But he has a cable from the radio. The steering wheel has 3 wires while the radio has 4 wires
THANK YOU! I have the exact same head unit and was troubling with the steering wheel controls as well because all of my wire labels had fallen off under shipment and I didn't know which wires were key1 and key2.
Yea. I figured it out gotta use the 3.5 mm that came with the kit and cut the end off. Key 2 gets grounded, the other goes to one of the wires from the plug. Only got alt 4 functions from the steering wheel to work though
Andrew Mack I have key 1 and key 2 on the radio and I have 3.5mm and a blue and yellow wire on my interface for steering wheel control wire so do i have to cut the 3.5mm and run it to the key 2 or key 2 gets grounded and 3.5mn go to key 1?
Hey thanks for the video... literally the only guy showing us what to do. My head unit does not have a separate ground for the SWC. I connected key 1 and key 2 as you've shown, but no go. Any clues as to where I can ground that wire out?
He sorry should have provided more info. I've got an 07 4runner. From further reading, i can just ground it anywhere? using this headunit: www.joyingauto.com/blog/post/joying-head-unit-connection-diagram-of-power-cord-and-av-cables/ Thanks again
@@bloadstar yes you have to connect swc1 to key 1 swc 2 to key 2 swc 3 is ground from the car wires connect swc 3 to ground from radio harness will work that way
Hi, Great video man, good to see someone worked it out. I am in Australia and have a 2006 Prado. It did not come with the steering wheel controls, but I have fitted a later model wheel with the controls. At this stage I cannot find any wires that i can verify come from the steering wheel. The Android head unit I have has a 20pin socket for the Toyota steering wheel harness. At this stage the only thing that is missing, (or maybe I just can't find them) is the wires from the back of the clock spring to the back of the head unit. I did find a vacant plug but could get no change of resistance when pushing the buttons. If you have any ideas, I would love your help.
I made some headway when I was problem solving ng this in my car by searching the internet for the working diagram for my car. By doing that I was able to slowing eliminate the wires I didn't need..
@@bumzigancould you send me a link or picture or something for that? I’m trying to do the same. Everything says pin 4.5,6 on the clock spring and pin 12 for the illumination. But the steering wheel button plug that connects to the clock spring has 7 extra wires not 4. and no pins at all in socket 12. the pinout would be super helpful
In my case I own a 2014 Rav4 XLE. I bought the AX-TOY28SWC harness (to keep the original wires uncutted in case I sell my car) and use three of this wires to plug them to my chinese stereo: ground, key one and key two.
Prior to watching this video and not realizing my radio came ready to be wired to the steering wheeI control I purchased a Crux SWRTY-61S SWRTY-61S radio interface for Toyota 2003-2011 I ended up eliminating the black box and used the harness they supplied. I connected the harness to the Toyota factory harness. The Crux wiring harness that has the red and white av in also has the following wire colors which I connected to radios ground, key 1 and 2 without having to cut the factory harness. The following wires on the harness fall in line with the factory wire colors supplied in this video. Green with Black line is ground on Crux wire harness. Key 1 is the blue wire labeled power antenna wire. Key 2 to is labeled the purple right rear positive. Once connected go into the radios programming mode for each button. It will not work until you do this.
Thanks this is the info I've been looking for. I just installed a radio with the crux swrty 61 and had issues getting my steering wheel controls to work.
