I hope google makes a First-Party UWB tracker with regular Bluetooth support as well. And hopefully starting from the Pixel 10 all Pixels have UWB support

That would mean that only devices with the UWB modules can benefit in that. For example, only the Pixel Fold, Tablet and all >6 Pro variants have it.

Tip: When you pair Pebblebee to Google's network you should still install the Pebblebee app because it can update the tag firmware. No sign-in required, and you don't need to disassociate the tracker to update it..

Not really. Rechargeable batteries don't perform well in cold weather. They drain fast. Alkaline batteries or something similar are better and user-replaceable.

@@PSYCHOV3N0MI've had tile with replaceable batteries and it's a nightmare. They don't last long enough to forget about, but are not easy (and cheap) enough to replace often. With rechargeable, you at least can recharge easily and frequently, which I see as the lesser evil.

Are these features USA/North America only? Find My Device hasn't been updated since May for me in the UK so these features & new 3rd party compatibility are nonexistent.

The biggest question is whether the Google Find-My-Device network is an "opt-in" or "opt-out" network. If people have to specifically opt-in for their phone to even report a location of an encountered tracker, it'll be very limited. Especially in the areas with limited tracker availability. Apple and Samsung report the location automatically regardless and that's what makes them awesome

It's opt in. Google offers 3 options in the Find My Device app when opting in.

I like this. I had been using a tile pro for my keys and had a tile card for my wallet but the tile card had a non replacable battery and it died. I like that. Ive been considering switching to the Samsung tracker with my s23fe. Now that this is available im not sure. How robust the tracking network is the decision factor to think about. The Samsung tracker will support ultra wide band though

Where did you purchase Pebblebee trackers? I am from Czechia and the only option seems to be from US which means insane import fees.

I'm from Belgium. Apparently pebblebee is only based in America. Look at chipolo. They are shipping from Slovenia. I preffer the pebblebee because is has a longer range. But import fees, taxes and shipping are not worth it in my opinion.

Careful the Amazon ones aren't the same as the ones on their website. If I remember correctly they are launching the android find my device compatible ones in July. The Amazon ones currently only work with Apple. Make sure you double check!

Uhm.. I think you have that backwards.. "rechargeable batteries" have limited lifespans and once dead, on devices like these, are not replaceable. Admittedly, given the time between charges, it's effectively forever, but point stands. On the other hand, you can get rechargeable button batteries and since they are replaceable, you can ... replace them.

I prefer to use Google products because I like their platform and features. However, I wouldn't have any issue using third-party air tags that offer the same functionality as Google's. The design and appearance are unimportant to me; I only care about the essential features. I would be happy to use them if they worked seamlessly with the Google platform. I wouldn't be concerned with any other aspects. Just provide me with the functionality I desire and ensure it integrates with the Google ecosystem. That's all I ask for; I won't quibble over anything else. I just want what I paid for, nothing more.

When using the Samsung Galaxy SmartTags, you have beside the last known location also a location history for the last 7 days. Does Google Find my device also has this location history?

How loud are the speakers? Can you hear still hear it if the keys or the wallet are in a bag/pocket and a few meters away?

Yes. It's pretty loud and there's also a light that you can flash on it and it gets pretty bright!

Only US & Canada for now. But google says in upcoming months it should be worldwide. I'd bet it will happen in October Google I/O event, along pixel 9 lineup release. 😉

I've tried it with my own spare smartphones at home. I've left a OnePlus 7+ with Bluetooth on, but no other connectivity in the far side of my place. It got picked up by my Pixel 6 Pro and 8 Pro, plus my Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 on its own (with the corresponding smartphone being out of range) - though I have to test that last case again to be sure. I'll try to sign my wife up, too, so I can test how it works with phones from other people.

Are you able to share the location with iPhone devices? I have an iPad and bought an Airtag (w/ the assumption it needed to be setup on an Apple device) but Apple has blocked tracking from their Find My website, and you can only track an Airtag using an iOS device, which means you can only share it with Apple devices. I hope Google hasn't implemented this same restriction and lets you track a shared tag from any device.

not sure about your question, but my google phone is able to track airtags around its vicinity and ping them too, im assuming apple cant force others to be unable to track airtags because that only benefits them and potential stalkers.

@@bmz4 Yes, any phone can detect "unknown" tracker devices, including Airtags, because of safety reasons, which I think there was legislation passed forcing this. This isn't what I'm referring to. You can only share Apple Airtags with other Apple users. Even though Apple offers "Find My" tracking on a web-based site, they have blocked Airtags from being shown on the website. You can only see the live location of Airtags using an iOS device.

I bought a Pixel with UWB. Why the extra hardware I paid for?? I cannot believe Google did not release UWB from the start, considering they have it in their own phones and all competition is already using it. I won't buy until they add support for UWB.

Rechargeable batteries are not a good idea for trackers. They die much faster in cold weather. Alkaline batteries or whatever battery type is currently used in AirTags, Samsung SmartTags, etc are better and also user-replaceable.

Samsung had SmartTags way before this and works really well, Google is so incredibly slow at adopting actually important features like this. Google still does not have a proper tablet that comes with a stylus and Google Keep is trash for stylus writing. RCS needs more features too like imessage. Also still no adoption of Qi 2 wireless charging.

TBF, unlike the iPad and the Galaxy Tab S series, Google's tablet is a mid-range tablet... Most low and mid range tablets don't come with a stylus.

Adding to what @SnowyRVuplix, Google Keep wasn't meant to be a note-taking app like Apple's Notes app or Samsung Notes. Google Keeps is like the sticky notes app from Microsoft. Additionally, there may be some quirks when it comes to Qi 2, which is why companies, like google, haven't adopted the technology.

Rechargable batteries perform worse, does not last as long, and dies with age. I suggest getting the ones with user replacable batteries, as that will ensure battery isn't an issue during its (or the service, knowing google) lifetime.

For me, it has the same problem the airtag has... Its design is obviously a tracker. Meaning a thief can easily discard the tracker and that's that.
