I was at the rally in Manchester yesterday. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a ticket so sat outside. Eddie Dempsey was really impressive and reminded me of some of the great social communicators of the past like Jimmy Reid and Arthur Scargill. I didn’t stay to the end and left with the worry that Enough Is Enough would be seen and reported on as a platform for the Unions to get support on the picket lines rather than the beginnings of a movement in which all people, employed or not, Union members or not, would get involved, and demand change. The message from Eddie Dempsey is clear. In order to meet the demands of Enough is Enough, we need a change of government and to do that we need everybody out on the streets as they did for the poll tax. Actions not words. I think this needs to be driven upwards by the people but coordinated centrally through Enough Is Enough to ensure we all stay on message. Get the Tories out, get a proper leader in the Labour Party and allow people like Jess Phillips and Lisa Nancy to work with them to develop some actual policies. Let’s bring back something like the Occupy movement but be committed to it over the long term. If anyone is forming any action groups in Manchester, let me know.
@Hoax-bp5pq
@Hoax-bp5pq Год назад
Sorry Arthur Scargill wasn’t a good man fleecing hundreds of thousands of pounds off the backs of miners, my family came from a mining village so I was very aware of the the damage he done. It’s inevitable this movement will get hijacked by Unions and infiltrated by every left wing activist who’s got an axe to grind in order further their own cause. I agree we need a new model of governance, but I don’t think the answer is lies with either political party who are equally corrupt, hence the reason why nothing ever changes.

I don’t recall saying that Arthur Scargill was a good man. What I said was that he was a great social communicator. As a matter of fact, he did not and was never accused of taking anything like £100,000 from anyone. It was also proved that he was wrongly accused of paying off his mortgage out of funds intended for the miners, though he was shown to have wrongly used about £30,000 and was asked to repay it. My point is that well meaning, committed but softly spoken people are not what we need. What we need are real leaders. People prepared to shout and raise hell. It goes without saying that they should believe in what they say and have personal integrity, but having those things in the body of a mouse is less than useless.
@hyksos74

Imo people need to adjust their thinking and be grateful for all we've got, the choices, living standards and freedoms, instead of complaining all the time. 80 years ago, people were huddled together in air raid shelters in appalling conditions, having only what they were wearing, their homes and possessions could just be a pile of rubble when they came out, consider what mattered then. Now we live in a beautiful country, but somehow people have lost track of what matters, if they don't have foreign holidays, a bigger, newer car than their neighbours, a more expensive house than they can afford and a big pay rise every year, they are hard done to, yet none of these make them happier. Instead of behaving like spoilt brats, it needs some introspection and maybe an adjustment to priorities, which might lead to a better life. I know this isn't possible for everyone and support must be provided for the genuinely needy, but beware of those trying to create unrest out of an economic situation for their own political ends, they are very skilful and cunning. As in the war, we need to look out for one another and ensure that limited resources are directed to those in greatest need, ditch the me first mentality and accept that Government can't solve all our problems, accept personal responsibility and we'll get through and maybe be better for the experience, that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

The work and pensions secretary, Therese Coffey, has said she will not publish five official reports into how the department handles helping the vulnerable, or how many people have died as a result of being denied disability benefits. The publication of these reports was promised by Coffey’s predecessors, following claims that thousands of disabled people had died since the Conservatives came into power in 2010. The true number still isn’t known, but it was found that over 17,000 people died between 2013 and 2019 whilst waiting for decisions to be made over their benefit claims. In 2020, we learned that 5,000 disabled people died still waiting to be reimbursed by the government to the tune of £16m in underpaid benefits

When Andy Burnham was part of Labour Govt with Gordon Brown, and when Blair was in power, why didn't we re-nationalise then?
@justjames1111
@justjames1111 Год назад
@Macavity Yes we did actually, right from Day 1. Furthermore, the concept of a privatised Utility Company is just intrinsically wrong. It was wrong in concept and wrong in practice. New Labour wear just 'old tory' and after 18yrs in the political wilderness they were shit scared of not being in power for another 18yrs, so did everything to appease the 'business sector' including Gordon Brown's promise to the 'City' to 'Govern with a light touch' and what a disaster that proved to be. Then we had PFI which even the tories where unsure about. Clause 4 in the Labour Constitution was abandoned by Neil Kinnock and grasped by the tories to create a 'free for all' ripping the Citizens of the UK off for as much as possible and investing as little as possible. You couldn't have made it up.

TV etc not hearing what fits the narrative they are part of the problem never will take side of the worker. Recently people like Kate Burley, Pierce Morgan, Richard Meadly and a host of other so named journalist treated Mick Lynch disgraceful much too their own detriment. All well sorted when tried to cage Mick. However have to get back to the narrative. They do not want change like the way it is as it suits them very well indeed . Unions return 50 years two generations on with great leaders and reps have to be squashed, not this time 1970s clap trap follows but hey this is 2022 people under 50 not interested back to 70s were not there. Are interested what's happening now 2022 that is what matters. Workers unite together we have power, use it, engage it and fight for change.
