For all the haters, let's be clear: over a career that lasted 18 years, he averaged 9 points per appearance at Club level. At his peak with the Tigers he averaged almost 13. Jonny Wilkinson, over 17 years, averaged 12 at Club. Who looked like they were having more fun? Don't get me wrong, I love Jonny, but seriously, anyone who can score like that and have a bloody good laugh whilst doing it is GOAT for sure. Top bloke

Andy Goode is the second highest point scorer in the Premiership of all time. Joint first for number of drop goals, second highest for number of penalties scored, 3rd highest for conversions. He did all that, even with having a break playing in France and South Africa. Just remember why be great when you can be Goode.

This isn’t my theory, belongs to JB from the rugby pod. But Andy Goode was so good that despite being about 3 stone overweight professional teams still kept signing him. The other aspects of his game were good enough that even though he could barely run by the end of career Newcastle paid him top dollar and not to stroke his ego but Goode was pretty much the key reason they didn’t get relegated. I know it’s a joke him being the goat but he was legit a goode player if you Pardon the pun.

Andy Goode is the epitome of the club rugby back, who was a prime colts/U19 prospect, but now smokes, drinks and never shows up to training. Yet always gets picked for the 1st team, when the young lad, who deserves more, kick practices religiously only gets on with the 3rd's or occasionally 2nd's. You always wonder as a forward why a Prop is playing fly half, but every so often he does something mercurial and then his selection is secure for another few months until he will undoubtedly pull off another Dan Carter like move again..... true GOAT.

To be fair, out of shape and still could command a game and probably one of the highest paid on the pitch. Just imagine if he bothered to train like wilkinson etc al

I grew up in Brive and this man was playing in the only two rugby matches I saw in real life. I remember the English people who lived in Brive were super excited to see him play for us.

He came on at half-time for the Warriors against Gloucester, when they were losing and turned the game on its head. He was on another level to the rest of the players on the pitch.

Goode is like when your PE teacher joins your u16 rugby team. Out classes everyone then sits down for a sneaky pint at half time

Videos like these tend to favour highlights that are already digitised, but there was a period in about 2004, when Goode came back to Tigers from Saracens, where he was a genuinely exceptional running fly half. I also remember watching him land a kick from 63 metres. Unfortunately for him, he got fat at the precise moment rugby made it onto the internet for all to see.

I saw an unknown AG play for England under 21’s at Rugby Lions about 20 years ago, when even I was youthful. He looked like a world beater and really stood out as a level above the rest of the players out there. And he was reasonably trim then. Unfulfilled potential, maybe ?
