I´ve been listening to this song since I was 18, now I´m 27. Always new, always better. Keeps me moving. It touches my soul every single time. So many emotions and memories inside of it
Mr McKee, I want you to know my wife an I named my daughter “Rylynn Grace” because of the beauty and how graceful you play this song. Thank you 🫡. You’ve been a major influence on my guitar playing.
sir.... my daughter is named after this composition. jan 13 2019 I became a father for the first time in my life. the only thing my wife and I could think that was as beautiful as our new daughter was this song.. so Rylynn Grace was introduced to this world. thank you. 5 years later and it still couldnt be more perfect for her
Today I just read the story behind this song. Honestly, I see this song very differently now, it touches the bottom of my heart and my feelings. I feel the purity, the innocence and the gentleness of this little girl in every note, every chord... Her fight against the illness and her rise to paradise. It mades me fall in love with this song even more. These 6 minutes are just the representation and the evolution of the 2 years of Rylynn's life. Thank you Andy, to put your feelings in this masterpiece and to share it with us, and Rest In Peace Rylynn. ♥
i will never forget going to see tommy emmanuael when i was a kid and them saying we have a guest playing tonight please welcome andy Mckee and being completly overwhelmed as i was obsessed with him as a guitar fanatic kid . I met him after the gig and to this day treasure the signed album he gave me. Listening to this song on top of the mountains in switzerland was one of the most profound moments of my life :) Thanks for inspiring a lifetime of guitar and music Andy you will always be a huge inspiration to me cheers for the beautiful music.
looks like not a lot of people know that Rylynn was a little girl who died from an undiagnosed illness, and that's why Andy dedicated this song to her.
Found Andy and this melody back in 2008 I think. Browsing around on RU-vid and by pure coincidence this one popped up. Stayed with Andy ever since listening to his strong melodies. They tell stories with using words! Thanks for the music Andy!
This is just the most gorgeous song I've ever heard. I've had the pleasure to see Andy McKee live and hear him perform this song. Just absolutely fabulous! And Andy is one of the most gracious people you will ever meet. If you ever have an opportunity to see him perform live, buy the tickets, get the sitter or bring the kids. It is well worth it!
First time listener in 2019. To all those who are down, just know that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's not a train. You were put here for a purpose, grace us with your presents. Live and laugh freely and most importantly love, You are blessed to do so.
How could anyone ever dislike this?? This is 6 minutes of my life I'll never want back. His playing is superb. So amazing and technical while the tones are gorgeously soft and appealing. So incredible.
Several years ago i was on a work trip, i believe in texas, found out by pure chance andy was there in the same town doing a show the night before. I was bumbed i missed it, hopefully one day i will catch a live show and check off a bucket list item!
thank you for clearing that up. im sure your daughter up there loves the song really much, just like we did. rest in peace, she must have been very lovely
The best guitar song ever. This song attracted many people to doing fingerstyle like me . I m listening for years and it 'a still gives the same feelings as first day.
I met Andy McKee a few months ago (and Jon Gomm and Preston Reed) and they all signed my guitar strap. It's now my prized posession! I'm naming my new guitar Rylynn after this song (not the same as all the people naming their children it, but i'm only 16!) He is incredible live, go if you ever get the chance!
we used this song in our wedding in 2010 when we did a candle light tribute to our grandparents that had passed away before but still wanted them to be a part of our day. When we heard this song and learned of the inspiration behind it, we knew we had to use it.
Five years ago, this was the first video i ever Favorited. Since then I have yet to find a more beautiful and creative song on guitar. Truly outstanding, must have watched it well over 100 times.
I saw Andy play at the Kessler Theater in Dallas on 11-22-2013. He told the audience that Rylynn was the song Prince heard that resulted in Andy playing several dates with Price in Australia. He played the harmonic section of this piece (starting about 4:28 in the video) extremely quietly. There were about 150-200 people in attendance and you could hear a pin drop. He had the total attention of EVERY person attending. Those of you that have performed on stage with an acoustic instrument understand that total silence from your audience in a quiet moment like this is equal to a standing ovation. It was an incredible moment. If you get a chance to see this man play in person GO! You'll not be disappointed.
this is the reason i keep believing true music will exist forever because even if these days u have "im awesome , i have expensive cars, all the chicks love me and u better not mess with me" every once in a while u get to listen to something amazing as this
Andy You have been a major influence (as well) in my life, recovery, and guitar playing. You are loved and understood. We love you. The ones who favor your truth and light. God bless you. You are talented. ✌
this man was and still is my dad's inspiration. he is such an amazing guitar player, and he plays songs very similar to this, and he teaches me them. my dad is my inspiration.
Its still one of the most AWESOME GUITAR SONGS EVER I was 16 when I first heard this and 13 years later its STILL AWESOME!!!! Timeless Guitar Song!!!!!!!!
I think I prefer the older video. It gives more fierce feel, as if the writer has lost something precious, while this one is more calm and peaceful. But his skill seems better in this video though. Still, I Love AndyMckee's sound :)
The feeling of hearing or seeing something beautiful for the first time is truly something special. While that beauty may resonate with you forever, the feeling of inspiration that pours into you is a euphoria that only comes once.
the frets help intonation and pures the sound making each note abit clear plus it runs with the natural movement of the hand (going up and down) the board
Still my favorite acoustic instrumental I've ever heard. It elicits tons of emotion when I hear it. It tells a story without any words. Andy McKee is a genius, plain and simple
❤👏🏼Bravo!
i doubt Andy ever reads this stuff, but i want him to know that i have lots of anxiety issues, and his music has helped me through some very bad times. Thanks Andy.
Andy’s songs have always been such a comforting experience and I just had a friend pass away and found myself back into his music and it helps so much! Thank you
I agree, the original is better.. but there is white noise throughout the whole recording (subtle in the background). That's probably why he did this one, and the piece is still a beautiful one. Check out this paper on the piece people.uwec.edu/walkerjs/mathematicsandmusic/Nav/PDFfiles/RylynnPaper.pdf I looked that up after seeing Shock PC's post.
Just saw Andy live in Newcastle last night. It was astonishing and quite simply amazing to listen to. I'm so glad I went there, and you seem like a really nice guy. Thank you Andy.
No neither versions are engineered, the one from 2006 is my favorite personally as well it just sounds best. But. This version is something you wouldn't understand unless you play guitar and realize how much more feel hes putting into this one. When you're a guitarist and you play the same song over and over and over and over and you love it you eventually end up changing it straight from from your soul(sorry no other phrase i can use therelol) You can see it as hes playing hes so into it versus the 2006 version is more or less a mainstream original. This song means a lot to him and hes expressing that in the way hes playing it, adding delays here and skipping or adding certain notes etc etc, that's what you're seeing here. again 2006 is alltime fav, buts its nice to appreciate this one for what it is.
when Andy Mckee was desperate and was struggling as a musician, way before he showed up on youtube, he told me: Master what is the secret of success? I taught him some riffs and some tricks and now here he is. The student has surpassed the teacher.
11 Years have passed since the first Rylynn Video... I grew up, got married, and I'm still listening today March 2018. And I'm still playing My Guitar hoping one day I can get a little close to this Master piece!!
I can play this song. Not as well as Andy but I think I do the song justice. And what I've come to realize about the song is an even greater appreciation for the composition. My favorite part used to be the beginning. Now it's the middle section that absolutely blows my mind. The way the bass notes and higher strings bounce back and forth creates a groove that you can't get out of your head. That combined with the awkwardness of some of the finger positions. Made that section quite challenging to learn. But oh so satisfying 😌 this song is nothing short of a modern masterpieces .
