We talk Keeley Halo, JHS AT, Electric Truth and much much more
Life too short for long RU-vid videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
Welcome to the show! Well, it’s been an emotional week. The brilliant, mesmerising, mercurial and completely mega Andy Timmons has been with us to play some shows, create some tones and indeed make this here video.
We go through Andy’s approach to guitar tones, get a personal demo of his new Halo Dual Echo from Robert Keeley and generally chew the fat on life, playing and this weird obsession we call guitar.
He even makes us cry. What a week!
Enjoy the video…

Emailed Andy (on behalf of everyone) to see what the piece that made Dan cry is called, and here is his reply: "Hi Adrian! Thanks for the kind words :) The song is called "Here Lies The Heart" and is very much a tribute to Chopin who I love dearly. It will be part of an upcoming record called "Bitter Suites: The Outlier Nocturnes", a collection of solo guitar pieces. Keep playing! Andy Timmons"

I'm glad everyone gets to see what a wonderful person Andy Timmons is, and what silly good tone he has. Someone on here said it perfectly, Andy doesn't play any throw-away notes, not even when he's unplugged and talking with people...he is always purposeful and in emotional-tune with his guitar. What can't be understated is, how Andy's constant guidance pushed us to design something better than we ever could have without him. Andy is a force that brought us to a higher level. Thanks Andy, Dan, and Mick!

Dan’s unashamed attitude reacting emotionally towards guitar tones and notes is inspiring. It shows how passionate he is about guitars. It also shows the power of music. Sometimes we make ourselves to busy with life and pushing emotions down and music allows us (sometimes even forces us) to relax our minds and allow those emotions to come up. It’s moments like these when we can forget the things that separate us and have unity. Man, good stuff Andy and thank you Dan and Mick for providing an avenue for this to happen.

Very nicely put, Stephen. Moved by that section of the video, I've just lost myself for over 40mins, tuning into my intonation, note choice, tone, picking etc etc - and feel so good for it. How is this normal? I didn't cry, just felt overwhelmed and enjoying every note...10 seconds later Dan cried. Andy is an amazing guitar player, don't get me wrong, very knowledgeable but he has something that not all the virtuosos has: that feel, the taste, and that's something that makes you feel, no need of thousands of notes, fancy scales, just feel, articulations and taste. When Andy started playing that magical progression my eyes were flitting back and fourth between Dan and Mick. It really was something else. The tone; the note choices; the dynamics; just wow! 'Andy makes Dan cry (really)' will be one of those vids people will return to time and time again. Hearing that immediately makes you want to play guitar. Friday night in with the lads at TPS! I could wax lyrical for hours phwoar...

I am fortunate to live in Plano, TX about 10 mins from where Andy lives and hear him play often at the sanctuary. Talk about a tear jerker, at his show a few weeks ago one of his former students passed away and Andy played electric gypsy on the kids guitar with his family there as a tribute to him.

Having seen Andy live and on countless RU-vid videos, this has to be up there tone-wise. It is a treat listening on a pair of good cans. Well done to the TPS team! This is going to be a video I’ll be revisiting from time to time. The playing is simply out of this world.

Wow. One of the best shows ever - and just life changing guitar playing. Good grief. If I can recover and see if I should still play, he's really got me rethinking my position on that treble bleed. Wow. I also love the love that exudes from this whole show. The greatest musical things I know came from TPS.

I teared up at the same time Dan did - unexpectedly too. It's one of those things you can't really try to resist lol Just let the sound do it's thing. That was such a heavy, yet uplifting piece Andy played. There was intention in every single note. What a musician.

And frankly, it was such a simple melody, You knew where it will go, what will be the next note he will play - it was like we had this melody in us all a long, just forgot it over life’s struggles, our ego and fake goals. And suddenly Andy brings back to us this sudden realisation of what is important, this almost effortless harmony, a sense of calm that we could achieve by being in the moment and letting go of our worries for even just a brief moment…

This is honestly amongst the greatest lessons I have ever received in how to approach a guitar as a musical instrument in general. It's not only about how to shape the tone. What you gentlemen don't say (but can be clearly seen) is just as important as what you say and present. Your passion, dedication, talent, wisdom and humbleness is what occasionally creates these fabulous moments worth living for. We have experienced several of those in this episode.

What a great show! I had the good fortune of living and playing in Denton in the late 80's when Andy first came to Texas and trust me, he was every bit as good then. Just killing on a Squire Strat. His musical memory is outrageous. He used to perform "Stump the Guitarist" where for a $1 you could name any song and see if he knew it. Not only did he know it, he knew the entire solos note for note. Next time he's on you gotta try and stump him. Get your wad of $1s ready!

Thanks TPS!!!! I see many asking, but IMO I think 13:16 is based on one of my favorite Chopin pieces: Chopin - Etude Op. 10 No. 3, sometimes called: Tristesse. Andy HAS to record this. Chills!!
@SN5N
@SN5N 2 года назад
it is very loosely based on Chopen's etude. One phrase is true to the original,but the rest seems to be Andy's. However, your comment made me to listen to the etude 3 times :-) But yes, you definitely pinpointed the source right and correctly:-)

It's amazing how Andy's tone never gets muddy. There's always that very musical sparkle, thanks to the way he dials everything in (and that treble bleed). When he digs in he gets this kind of "chirp" in the notes that really complements the whole vibe of his playing.

I totally would’ve cried too Dan! Dang it, I almost cried just watching you cry. I get it, it’s the tone but also a spiritual thing sitting that close to something like that because you can literally feel heat coming off of it. Since you possess so much knowledge on that blues breaker style transparent tone, I can imagine hearing it played so beautifully up close is unreal. Jealous! 😎 Best RU-vid channel out there. Cheers.
