Like if you believe in Ange. I'm fortunate in a way to be a fan of 62 years i have seen winning mentality, great managers ,and a long period when we were renowned for playing great football . I honestly believe Ange will make us a great team again.. Im also excited by the thought of our young players going forward including , Mikey Moore and Lucas for the next season .its going to get exciting !!! Loved your questions in the press conference Alasdair, they needed asking ,I was worried Ange might want to leave the club after all the goings on this last week, but he seems more determined if anything . he's only human after all , he's allowed a bit of narkiness now and again i know I was narky only last night with 300 students keeping me awake !!!

Brilliant comment. Spot on. Believe. Pep Guardiola on Ange Postecoglou “Guardiola stressed he believed Spurs would be an “unbelievable” team should the team continue under Postecoglou’s watch. “They play with a lot of pride and intensity and it's so difficult to play against them,” he said. "Spurs will in the future be unbelievable if they stick with the manager.”

I'm also quite excited about Bergvall and can't wait to see him in the squad. I know that there was a ton to cover and it's not the norm, but I personally love the longer videos. I started supporting Spurs in 1967. I was 10 years old at the time, my school mates wanted to know which club I supported and I didn't have one, so being that Spurs were the closest Division One team, I chose them. One year later, I went on holiday with my mum to Italy. One day I was in Rome at an uncle's house and I went outside with my cousin for a kickabout in the street. He said, "I'm Roma, who do you want to be?" I answered that I didn't know any Italian teams, so he went indoors and came out with a Panini sticker album with all the teams and players of that year. I chose Inter because I liked their colours. Fast forward thirty years to late 1997 and I returned to North London after living in Italy for fourteen years. In the twenty-seven seasons since I came back, Spurs have won two trophies: the League Cup in 1999 and again in 2008. That's it, period. During that same timeframe, Inter have won Serie A seven times (including this season); Coppa Italia six times; Supercoppa Italiana (equivalent to the Charity Shield) seven times; UEFA Champions League once; UEFA Cup once (for the third time in eight years); and FIFA Club World Cup once. That's twenty-three trophies in total. I should also mention that Inter won two Scudettos + a Coppa Italia + a UEFA Champions League in only two seasons under Jose Mourinho, and another Scudetto under Antonio Conte. Aside from Pep Guardiola, those two gentlemen are in absolute the two winningest football managers in Europe of the 21st Century, yet both left Tottenham Hotspur not only empty-handed in terms of silverware but actually in disgrace. It is generally overlooked but at one point during his tenure in N17, Conte said in a press conference that "managers risk their reputations by coming here." I'm wondering whether things would have gone any differently if Pep had been our manager, and I'm thinking probably not. Ditto Jurgen Klopp. I worked at Spurs as a matchday steward for six seasons (1998-2004) and it never failed to amaze me when the crowd would suddenly burst into "If you hate Arsenal stand up!" during matches when we weren't even playing Arsenal. I was thinking to myself, "Why? What has Arsenal got to do with anything? Why don't you concentrate on how your own team are doing instead of proclaiming your hatred for a team that we're not even playing against?" It was a loser's mentality twenty-five years ago and it's a loser's mentality now. It's petty, it's stupid and I'm sick of it.

Regards the chanting.. it's just banter. Arsenal sing stand up if you hate Tottenham when they're not playing us... Stand up if you hate whoever is chant up and down the country for your rival.. I don't think it's a losers mentality when it's just digs. This "winning mentality" is imo just a slogan tagged on to serial winners like the Manchester teams of the past 30years who have dominated domestic football... I 100% guarantee that every pro footballer and manager has a winning mentality.. the reality is Brighton, west ham, villa, spurs, Newcastle etc etc have simply not had the resources to compete. Spurs had one of the largest debts when Levy took over and historically it's the team with the greatest buying power that wins the prem. Even the year Leicester won, spurs should have won, we lead for a long time and if I remember right, it was Chelsea who had a tactic to disrupt the game, rile our young squad and play to prevent us from beating Leicester.. not much was made of that either. Chelsea were even given kudos for ruining our chances of winning the league.. Regarding Conte and Mourinho, now Ange, there is clearly a similar feeling about the ambition of the club. But Ange, unlike the others has taken it upon himself to address it, not throw a tantrum and blame everyone else for failing to win anything. I really couldn't stand them as managers, the football is out dated and drab to watch. I actually stopped watching Conte's team it was that unbearable. Couldn't be happier with Ange and what I'm seeing on the pitch. I like your point of view though. I said in another comment, that this platform highlights how differing fans opinions can be. The only thing we have in common is wanting to win, bottom line we need to back the team at all costs in the games #coys

@@robharwood-stamper9857 it wasn't the Battle of the Bridge that cost Spurs the title in 2015-2016, it was the psychological collapse that was the legacy of that game. Yeah, Chelsea turned the game into a needle match, especially Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas saying in the press a week or more before it that, "We're going to fuck up Spurs because we want Leicester to win the league." However, that one draw wasn't the end of the title race; it was dropping ten points from the final twelve that killed it. Chelsea did damage because Spurs had already dropped two points at the Lane the previous week against West Brom. The Blues deliberate wind up tactics led to us losing the plot. If you doubt that, how do you explain the fact that NINE Spurs players were booked in that match versus three Chelsea players? It was a miracle no-one got sent off. Nonetheless, a second draw in a row didn't end the title chase mathematically. It was the following week's home defeat to Southampton followed by the shameful 5-1 defeat away to already relegated Newcastle that were the final nails in the coffin. To add insult to injury, several players went straight from St. James's Park to the airport and flew off on their hols. Pochettino later said, "I could have killed them!" And on top of that, let's not forget that the Newcastle result meant that Arsenal overtook us to finish second; talk about rubbing salt into the wound. So there you have it. Spurs failed to win the league in 2015-16 because of mentality. If anything is ever going to change, supporters need to stop finding pretexts under which to excuse failure because for far too long it's been the only thing that this team does consistently.

Hi Alastair. Huge, huge admirer of your work and videos for many years. Totally brilliant mate! I am finally moved to make some response for the very first time in my life on this media. This could be a long message so please feel free to move along elsewhere if you are bored, while I relate my background - why Spurs - what happened - and where are we now. Although I have been living in Hong Kong for over 25 years now, I was born in London and was introduced to Tottenham by a neighbour. He had a complete collection of all the Tottenham home programs from 1960 to 1963 and kindly gave all of them to me, seeing that I was a football mad kid. I read them avidly and I knew every single player and every single match and immersed myself in the Glory Days. I was instantly a Spurs Fan! In 1966, me and my dad watched the World Cup Final from my neighbour’s house (cos he had a colour TV). My hero was, and always has been, Jimmy Greaves - so I was a bit pissed off with Geoff Hurst stealing the limelight. I was only 8 years old so I dealt with my grief by playing football in the street immediately afterward and scoring a goal for Jimmy. That was my way of dealing with the massive disappointment. Jimmy unfortunately turned to the booze! I remember well the FA Cup win vs Chelsea in 1967 …… not a beautiful game but we won! Frankly my interest and passion for football faded over the next 30 years after that !!! Why? Tottenham were relegated soon after. ( So perhaps I am not a proper fan ? Just a fair weather friend you might say??). I sometimes went with my best mate to watch his West Ham team but it all seemed like muddy pitches, hooliganism etc etc. It was a bit dull for me. So I drifted to other things and other sports for a while ….. Yes I followed Gazza, Hoddle , Klinsmann,, Lineker etc on autopilot but it wasn’t like the Glory Days for me! Fast forward 1995. I moved to Hong Kong and I was watching Man Utd with mates in a bar and thought wow! This is a whole new era of exhilarating football like I’d never seen before. No muddy pitches. Fast football. So I was hooked again. Started following Spurs again in earnest! Poch era - fantastic! So gutted to lose the Premier League to Leicester and the Champions League Final. But - exciting football! Fast forward to today. Loving Ange absolutely totally! The new Bill Nick! It’s been a superb season in my view, despite the late losses. Taking the big picture I’m more excited about Tottenham’s future under Ange. The best since the Glory Days. Please everyone get behind him and stop moaning about small things! Be patient. I am so excited about the possibilities for next season. COYS !!! Ali - love all that you do. If you are ever in Hong Kong I would love to meet you and have a beer! Cheers!

I wish people would stop bagging him for not being in a top league beforehand. He grew up in a country where football(soccer as its called) is nowhere near the main sport. He had to do it the hard way by dominating in Australia, Japan and Scotland to get his big break. 5th in his first year with a club with a losing culture is pretty impressive.

The strange case of Gio Lo Celso also has it's routes with Daniel Levy. If you recall we were targeting Bruno Fernandez and he was on the verge of joining us, then our illustrious leader put another spanner in the works (a la Grealish), and switched to Lo Celso because he was considerably cheaper. Therein you have the sorry tale of THFC under enic in a nutshell.

Listen, everyone. Now, let's move on and refrain from dwelling on what Ange said or what the fans did. Let's unite and collectively urge Levy to support the manager adequately. It's essential to instill a winning mentality in Levy so that he becomes more ambitious in the transfer market. Remember, a winning mentality starts from the top. Come on, you Spurs, let's focus on this positive approach instead.
@darthrevan6861
@darthrevan6861 21 день назад
In order to do that, we would need to install this winning mentality to the fans themselves first. Levy can get away with his lack of success exactly because the lack of ambition our fans have. This is what pretty much happened in this disgraceful City match the other day.

Having followed Ange from the early days, I felt he did a slight back peddle in his press conference knowing full well that he had to input some diplomacy. Fair enough as he is well aware of the ramifications of knee jerk reactions from the fans and from above. He wants to stay and continue building what he set out to do. I thought that was such a glowing statement from Pep Guardiola regarding Ange and the Team. Pep is a class act.

For me it was an all time low. I've been a Spurs fan all my life. Saw my first game at home to Man U in '69. Seen us win domestic and European trophies and challenge for the league, even seen us relegated. In all that time I've never, ever wanted us to lose a game. I hope that in seasons to come we can reach new highs but I never want to witness that small minded, losing mentality again. It will hang over us for a long time

agreed, however sometimes it is incredible difficult to remain a loyal, upbeat Spurs supporter, of course like almost all Spurs fans I want Spurs to win EVERY game they play, but so often it is two steps forward one back, so often my expectations are killed stone dead (maybe they are too high) and BTW I think most Spurs fans are happy(maybe wrong choice of word) when ‘that lot down the road lose’ however I guess it is express in different ways.

As far as the post match behavior from our players with man city's, I have no problem with that, in fact I like it, it promotes good sportsmanship. It's a game. You played you lost but after word you shake hands and are friendly. People that dislike that stuff are still stuck in the yob culture that has plagued this sport for decades. I remember attending my first game in 90 ( I was 4) and i still have the image burned into my head of some of the away and home fans just angry swearing at each other and these guys dont even play sport they just paid to watch other people play a game. It's ridiculous but as a kid I didn't want to go to another for along time and didn't. I think there has been a change for the better in the past 2 decades, its not perfect but I want kids to be able to go to football and just enjoy the experience regardless of if their team wins or loses.

I sat in my seat the South stand season ticket holder since 1994 the year we signed Klinsmann and life long Spurs fan 55yrs old, around me there was nobody cheering for Man City nobody doing the Poznan when they scored and everyone disappointed when Sonny missed his chance, i think the media have as per usual had a field day on the Spurs fans,,, Spurs in a no win situation really if we win Woolwich will laugh and say we handed them them the title ( i prefer to look at it as we stoppped them winning the title taking 2 points off them at their place esrlier in the season) and if we lost then ' Spursy' throwing a game,, as it was we performed really well but even then instead of getting plaudits we got ' Man City were not their usual selves' Im 100% behind Ange progress in the first season some very exciting young players having their first taste of the best league in the world and they will only improve, my only whine at Ange is when he kept getting prickly when questioned in the last few weeks regarding the set piece issues, rather than come out and admit it was a problem and say they are addressing it which would have stopped a lot of the frustration he stubbornly said there were other things to be worrying about time after time, I as others drove 5 hours to Newcastle leaving at 5am to watch the very poor no show getting hammered then another 5 hours home followed by a similar trip to Anfield just after, set piece after set piece being conceded and he refused to assure the fans,, another thing that I think the fans found really frustrating is when he said ' All i wanna do is win ever game mate' then why did he put out a second string side in the Caraboa Cup against Fulham which was probably our most realistic chance of any silverware this season, like i say 100 % behind Ange especially with another transfer window coming lets hope he is strongly backed by Mr Levy and the fans stick with his philosophy and see where the jorney takes us COYS.

Thanks for the wide-ranging video, Alasdair. I thought that Ange’s latest press conference was one of the best he has given and he seems to have put a lot of thought into making sense of the past week. He was obviously very angry straight after the Man. City game but this latest presser was much more composed. Personally, I was in the second group of supporters as I wanted Spurs to win but if they had to lose a game then this one was probably the most palatable given the consequences of us defeating City. Anyway, this is Spurs so there is no guarantee they will beat Sheffield United! Overall, there have been too many defeats this season to say that Spurs merited a Champions League place and the Europa League will be good for giving fringe players more game time. Very happy to see Mikey Moore make his debut. Clearly well-deserved but I do wonder why Jamie Donley was not also on the bench for recent games - though I guess this may have been because he was needed for the U21s. After your reports I am positively salivating at the prospects of watching Bergvall in the Spurs team next season. I hope he plays in the pre-season friendly against Bayern in August as I have already booked my ticket.

Thanks for being a voice of reason Alisdair. I think Ange's comments were not singularly about the fans as he stated in this last interview. Having said that, the emotion of some fans was over the top and they should reflect on Ange's perspective. I think his views have the potential to change the club, our players and fans and lead us into a better future. He is our manager and wants the best for our club. No issue with fans wanting the outcome that results in Arsenal not winning the league. Any other fan base would be exactly the same way (no matter how much they have tried to take this weird moral high ground) I do have an issue with actively supporting City in the ground. Weird behaviour and those fans need to take a look at what Ange has said in his follow up press conference. There is a lot of truth in what he said, and we as a fan base need to reflect on it.

Today's press conference definitely feels like a salve after the City game and following press conference, and I think all fans should be able to take something away from it that makes them feel a bit better about the situation. For me, this has cemented that Ange is the perfect guy for job right now and I hope he is given the time and the resources to impose himself and his philosophy on the club. If he is then I have no doubt he'll leave Spurs a better club than he found it. After the last week, if I never hear the word "mentality" again I'll be happy man. Always enjoy hearing your perspective, and as a fan from Glasgow I also enjoy hearing you talk about the city from time to time.

His initial press conference just helped increase the divide in the club. Ange says he can't understand how the fans are but he doesn't have to go to work with a load of Piers Morgan's each day. Put him in the average fans shoes and he might understand a little better. That is coming from someone that didn't want us to lose against City. Everyone needs to understand everyone's viewpoint on this, even if they don't agree. The fans aren't to blame for a lack of success. How the fans are is a consequence of that lack of success.
@rioribeiro6737
@rioribeiro6737 21 день назад
I get what you saying but the average fans you speak of should also put themselves in their new manager and players shoes that by going to their own stadium, chanting for city, celebrating city goal, wearing city jersey, provoking Ange from the side is an utter disrespect/ Discouragement for the very team they supporting and how would that make their manager and players feel witnessing all that! Its not this group of players and this managers fault for decades long Spurs lack of success. They are in their first year of building phase and they doing their best although falling short, lapses in concentration, skills and so on but they trying and will get better in time. This event has brought light the shortcomings of both the fans and the team/ management in understanding each other and hopefully lessons learnt from it and not repeated and mutual respect and understanding gained. COYS
@timp4417
@timp4417 21 день назад
@@rioribeiro6737 From what I have heard from people that went to the match, those people you talk of were a very small minority. It was more of a muted atmosphere than anything else. You can understand some apprehension among supporters that their long term rivals may win the league after many years. Especially knowing they won't hear the end of it, probably for the rest of their days. We still hear about the times they have won the league at WHL!!! I disagree that it's brought to light the shortcomings of the fans. I have heard supporters from pretty much all the other PL clubs say they would be the same under similar circumstances. It is a tribal game and as long as rival teams co-exist, it won't go away. You have to bear in mind, this was probably a once in every 5 or 10 year kind of event. This isn't where any focus should be. That should be on Ange to get us to a place where this kind of thing isn't even an possibility. I believe he can do that. COYS.

I bloody love Ange, he’s the man for the job, his attitude, integrity and I believe history and experience not to overlook football intelligence means let’s get behind him because I can’t see us not getting where we all hope to be as spurs if we can get out of our own way as fans and the club… Ange is the man and Ali your doing a fantastic job giving him the opportunity to get his messages to us… COYS MEHSTG

I think the big disconnect is Ange views this a longterm project. I get that fans are eager to win now but realistically that’s going to be extraordinarily difficult for any manager. A good template to follow would be Arteta at Arsenal. He finished 8th, 8th, 5th, 2nd, and now likely 2nd again. Cracking through that top ceiling isn’t going to be easy. But if Ange is given the time and backing from the fans there is no doubt in my mind that he’ll deliver. He inherited a team that finished 8th last season and had he not also lost the best finisher in the world we’d probably be much higher up the table. They’ve created tons of big chances that Kane would’ve scored on. Despite all that and having the 7th highest wage bill, a very young team, and the league’s 2nd worst injury crisis he has us in 5th. Bookmakers had us finishing lower than 8th going into the season. The quickest path to trophies is sticking by Ange for at least 3-4 years, especially given that the players seem to love him as exemplified through Sonny putting out a statement effectively begging the fans to give him time. The alternative is you don’t give Ange time, struggle to find any elite manager after they’ve witnessed our fans turn on Mourinho, Conte, and Ange before they’d even completed a full season, settle for someone of Nuno’s caliber who’d need to spend multiple windows rebuilding the squad again, sack that manager, and keep doing the same process over and over again. I’d also be shocked if a lot of our bigger players didn’t seek a move out if Ange were to be sacked. They love him. They want to play for him. They outclassed the best team in the world for much of that first half and are still soooooooooo early in the process of building this thing up. The inability of the loudest Spurs fans to be patient will inevitably force all of us to wait even longer for a trophy. Fans hyper-focusing on a single game here or there is the single greatest threat to us becoming an elite club over the longterm. Failure is a pre-requisite to success! Let’s keep things in perspective.

Listen, everyone. Let's move forward and refrain from dwelling on what Ange said or what the fans did. Let's unite and collectively urge Levy to support the manager adequately. It's crucial to instill a winning mentality in Levy so that he becomes more ambitious in the transfer market. Remember, a winning mentality starts from the top. Come on, you Spurs, let's focus on this positive approach instead. If Levy doesn't back Ange properly, we must stand together and protest. Join us in the protest next season if Levy fails to deliver. Our battle is with Levy, not each other.

Just watched the embargoed section of yesterday's press conference: that was top ! Ange spoke very well and explained a lot of things. Great communicator. But next season I don't want to see 4 defeats in a row again, cause that was awful and the reason I started having big doubts about Ange. So now we need a top transfer window and before that a 4-0 win at Sheffield U. I also liked his words of appreciation at the end, that was nice from him. Last thing: I find it utterly stupid to go to Australia for a quick return trip! Our players want to go on vacation or want to rest before the Euro and Copa America! Imagine, due to bad luck, that a player gets injured and misses the competition.... Just leave our players alone after the last game please, they have no interest in a quick return trip to Australia! You don't go to Australia for just 2 days ffs..... Last but not least : thank you Alasdair for the time you spend on your free time to make all those vids. Dear Alasdair! I do appreciate all the content you produce about Tottenham. Your Podcast with Guesty as well as your own videos offer a very balanced and measured view, which is a valuable contrast to other Spurs related content often tainted by overemotinal reactions to one (or several) bad results. It is a pleasure consuming your media output and I hardly ever miss one of your various pieces. I think it is important for fans (especially when living abroad, without having the possibility to talk to other Spurs supporters regularly) to have access to voices they can affiliate with. As a Spurs fan from Switzerland not able to see every game live at the stadium you give me a feeling of being much closer to the action on and off the pitch. Thank you very much for this! Best, Jesse

As always love your video Ali. I definitely fall into the 2nd group of fans where I wanted the team to win but wasn't devastated when we lost. As a 13 year old In 2004 my dad made me stand and watch the celebrations when Arsenal won the league and said 'it will never be as bad as this remember that' which has always stuck with me. I completely agree wanting to win is important but rivalries are also important, almost as important. The TV companies and media build all their narrative around rivalries e.g Red Sunday when United play Liverpool.and that's because it makes our game so great. I have no issues with Anges comments and change is needed. Keep providing video Mr Gold and enjoy Melbourne via Sheffield 😊

I respect Big Ange much more for his anger. We have got to aim higher than just being cheered up by shitting on another club's chance of glory. Let's show more respect for ourselves and for our rivals. The club's motto is "Audere Est Facere", maybe more people should try to understand what it means, to achieve glory through action . It's "To Dare is to Do" not "To Mock is the Point". Maybe that's my time in Sweden making me a little more tolerant and accepting. Personally I hate the partisan bullshit.... except for Chelsea.

For many fans, it's a banter. Not too perturbed if your team loses is not the same as wanting your team to lose. I've supported Spurs for over 40 years, and it's been 40 years of bitter pain for the most part. We've also just lost 4 in a row... So, losing to City would obviously be disappointing, but for the first time in my Spurs life, there would be a little comfort, knowing that it also cost Arsenal as well. Do you guys really believe all the love and support Arsensl were professing for Spurs? It was the occasion that happened once in a lifetime, and fans bantered as such

But what about the fans forking out big money travelling from the other side of the world who struggle to get tickets for the rare chance to cheer on their team, and end up sitting through that match day experience? Why didn’t the fans who wanted Arsenal to lose more than us to win stay home so at least more of us could get a chance to go to the match and cheer on our chargers? Hi Ali, thank you for your hard work and I look forward to the upcoming articles on Lucas and the other Although I lived in London for several years I have supported Tottenham for 35, as a non-native fan, I cannot say that I fully appreciate the tribalism between the various fanbases and I am probably more stoical by nature as well. In view of this, I will not comment on whether fans should or should not root against their own team. However, there have been some fans suggesting and even advocating that a mural should be commissioned to celebrate Heung Min's miss and I think that this encapsulates the "Spursy" mentality that other fans and pundits deride us for. Whether we like it or not, Arsenal have been significantly more successful in the last 30/35 years. When we won the FA Cup in 1991, it was our 8th FA Cup victory and the most won by any club at that point in time. Since 1991, we have won none and Arsenal eight. We will not see Spurs overtake Arsenal in terms of honours in the next 30 years at least. Son has scored 160 goals for Tottenham and 120 in the premier league. He is the 22nd highest PL scorer of all time and will break into the top twenty soon. To champion (irony intended) that Son should get a mural because he missed a chance is simply absurd and shows how deeply the Spursy mentality is ingrained in our psyche. This is where Ange comes in. He seems to be up to the challenge of changing the mentality of the club and I pray that he will succeed. Of course, not all fans will buy in to this but as long as a majority of the fans are on board, it will be fine. Safe travels to Australia. Hope you are transiting in Singapore. As you hopefully would agree, Changi is a great place to transit ,
