@@settingittowumbo1953 actually seph was approx 20 back then while Genesis and Angeal were slightly older. I mean their main pass time was throwing swords at apples placed on their heads (lmao)
Angeal trained Zack, who trained Cloud. Basically, Cloud is only possible because of Angeal. Who was the best friend of Sephiroth. Who in turn went crazy without his friends. And became the villain that Cloud fought in the end. It's like Angeals spirit came to took his friend to sanity.
@@SuperXD44 Correction. Cloud was never trained by Zack, he's basically just a shinra grunt that was only assigned to assist him, if being experimented on and getting Zack's memories and skills from the get go is what you call training then sure, and yes I played Crisis Core and played the game twice.
@@gelothegogang Correct except Cloud didn't get Zack's memories. Cloud made a fake version of himself based on Zack. In the sense he didn't become Zack he just made himself into someone like Zack. A hero.
@@Wesley-kk2ir How? In the original game FF7, Cloud remembers going to Nibelheim as a Soldier 1st Class, he even said he had a close relationship with Sephiroth, and that he was the one who witnessed Sephiroth going mad and seeing his town on fire, when in actuality he didn't witness anything that early because he was incapacitated in that moment. He didn't get every memory of Zack though, as he never knew Aerith. Also because his own real memories and Zack's are mixing up that's why many times in the game he tends to lose his shit when asked about his past life. Because his memories never made sense in that time, until Tifa helped him know remember the truth. Or maybe you're right, Its actually very confusing. Because how would he get Zack's 1st Class skills without also getting some of his memories?
And Zack embodies all three of their best qualities. He is both compassionate and has the fighting instinct of pre-nibbleheim Sephiroth, Genesis'' passion for being a hero and strong and finally the morality and restraint of Angeal. He's the best soldier Shinra could've groomed yet everything was invested on those three.
@@isabellastens3078 Is that true? I'd be curious to know. They drew heavily on judaic gnosticism when picking the names for VII, so I'd be pleased to know more about the spelling of Angeal. "Zack Fair" still means a lot to me. "Fair" and "Strife," yet the one to be the living legacy. Fairness wouldn't bless strife unless it had grown past the nature of the struggle and pain and instead sought peace and completion. Fairness. Hope.
@@Banana-cc5rx btw...Genesis very very an underrated character in ff series. It would be good if Genesis hadn't died. Actually, Genesis has good potential to be famous char because he has the look and charms but se just threw him away eermmm
julianx2rl mentality change when he realized the whole truth and how he’s been pretty alone all his life and thinks he’s some monster it was probably too much for him and he just changed
The epic three-way showdown that is part swordfight and part L'Oreal commercial. No matter how different each FF game is from one another you can be sure that everyone has gorgeous hair!
Notice that Sephiroth's hand work is so incredible. He uses fluid figure 8 wrist movements to maintain momentum without having to slash and stop. Additionally, he adapts his odachi for closer combat by deflecting and striking with the area of the sword closer to the cross guard. Ahhh. Final Fantasy's attention to detail.
I love sephiroth's fighting style. No flashy spins, no sword flourishes, he has an elegance to his swordplay that requires no fancy (and quite stupid) moves.
@@malachihormel7994 still. but just imagine if the damage dealt was real, a guy with a red coat sends fireballs, blasts friend in the face, the long haired dude slicing the fire balls but gets engulfed anyways, or a guy with a giant sword that clutches through fighting badass guys with a broken sword and a giant one
Facts! It's always something about the cool "villians" in shows hahaha. Examples: Shadow The Hedgehog , Madara Uchiha, Etc (I cant think of everyone atm hahaha)
If you look at 3:40 you would notice that when Angeal blocked Genesis' sword his hand didn't move from the force Genesis exerted. But when Angeal blocked Sephiroths' sword it budged him a little. Notice how Angeal looked at Sephiroth thinkinh "really bro your fighting seriously?"
@@walnerrodriguez5026 its kind of both, where Angeal is surprised that Sephiroth would hit that hard, thus causing more wear and tear on the buster swird
What strikes me every time I watch this is just how plain happy Sephiroth seems here. His expression practically scream "YAY I HAVE FRIENDZ TO SPEND TIME WITH" and it makes me so sad to think how this friendship crumbled :(
I'd also say Sephiroth did not became ''evil'' because he learned of his origins and thought JENOVA is his mother. The main reason could be he lost all his friends to the exactly same experiment. And if Shinra had never experimented on JENOVA and him, nothing would also happen to his friends. Like in the lyrics of One Winged Angel; ''Burning inside with violent anger Fate - monstrous And empty'' empty could be mean he has no more friends and no one to love. His mother his dead, he has no father, his friends are all gone. His new and last friend was Zack who looked up to him but was obsessed by becoming a hero and Soldier honor. How could he love and treat someone as a friend if the person was obsessed with the organization who destroyed his entire life? I think if instead Cloud and Zack, Genesis and Angeal would be there as he learned about the truth he would not become an villain. This is my interpretation. Sorry for my bad grammar, English is not my native language.
Man I like pre insanity sephiroth he was a nice guy then good sense of humor and was not that much of a dick. But losing 2 of his closest friend and finding out his life is a lie will screw anyone over.
@Aziria Shingen Didn't help that Zack was killed in cold blood by Shinra's soldiers. But on a topic not totally unrelated, why don't bullets do more damage in Final Fantasy games?
Yes, thats also why he lost to cloud in ff7, he just wasnt trying or he did not feel the need to try and fight hard because he was so OP. The producers confirmed this, they themself said that sephirot is by far the most powerfull beeing in ff7 but he only lost because of his cockiness.
He lost in Advent Children for the same reason. He was just toying with Cloud until Cloud got the plot mandated win. The most telling thing is the audio. Cloud's sucking air and grunting constantly. Sephiroth's quiet as a church mouse. Cloud's trying as hard as he can and Sephiroth isn't even putting in any effort. Arrogantly toying with opponents is Sephiroth's kryptonite.
This scene is actually really sad. The fighting's amazing and all, but it's sad because it shows how happy Sephiroth was before he went insane. He had friends, a nice life, and seemed pretty happy and at peace. It actually makes me angry that he had to become the villain, because he was such a great hero, and I'd like to see him fight side by side with Cloud rather than against him, even if it were some quirky alternate universe.
The other sad thing is that it would HAVE to be an alternate universe. Sephiroth has already done so much evil that he's went passed the point of redemption. If he did somehow decide to become good again. It would have to be a long and arduous trial. It would consist of reviving people and rebuilding everything he's destroyed. And im pretty sure the final fantasy world wouldn't forgive him anyway even if he does somehow manage to do all of those things.
not to mention he is kinda a celebrity. But it's exactly because he is at the top spot for so long he has nothing else to work towards, so he has to look elsewhere which is his fixation on Jenova.
you know ur boi angeal was holding back when you realize he stoped 2 full-powered blows from genesis and sephiroth using only a standard issue shinra blade and the handle of his sword
The most funny thing is that, he blocks genesis easily, but when masamune hits him, he budges and look back like, Holy shit man you're gonna kill him, relax ...
Sephiroth: [Is slicing bread in the pantry] Genesis: [Stealthily starts playing One Winged Angel in the stereo] Sephiroth: [Slices through the bread, cutting board, countertop, cupboard and floor] Angeal: Damn it why do we even have a pantry... -__- Genesis: This place needs a *NEW* pantry! Sephiroth: [Grins as he falls through the pantry floor]
Genesis: “So smug...but for how long?” Sephiroth: “A decade before this game...still going strong a decade after too 😏” The morrow is VERY barren for you Genesis
Angeal OP. I swear Crisis Core was gimped. Zack, Genesis and Angeal are monsters in their own right and thanks to plot they all get slapped easily. Yet Cloud, a nonity, slaps Sephiroth because apparently Cloud is the one person he never took seriously
@@karhammer S cells don't make up for years of training, experience and thousands of battles. Kid literally went to sleep then said he wants to be Zack daddy, thus he became strong.
@@user-ko3sd9qj2h Yeah he basically cheated his way through unintentionally by getting Zack's skills but also his memories that's why he's so edgy in FFVII because he's suffering from a personality disorder.
3:03 Sephiroth: Not bad Genesis, you were able to take me on while only using 50% of my power... Genesis: Where is the other 50%!? *One Winged Angel Intensifies*
Genesis (after the fight's un-climatic end, as he walks off): Even if the morrow is barren of promises... nothing shall forestall, my return... Vegeta (laying back): and the Emmi goes to... ;)
I don't know a huge amount about FF7 lore, but isn't *THIS* the moment everything starts to fall apart in the story? The injury Genesis sustains in this spar-that-went-too-far never heals, it leads to his degradation, his desertation, the Genesis War, which in turn led to Sephiroth finding out his origin, the Nibelheim incident and thus Sephiroth's own fall from grace? If so, holy hell...all this from guys play-fighting a bit too hard?!
And it’s all 100% Genesis’ fault because he was too much of a whiney preteen to stop fighting when his friend told him it was a bad idea and he was getting his ass beat anyway.
Tried to find a video of him monologuing, but I didn't find anything good. There're videos of Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts monologuing, but Sephiroth doesn't do much philosophy, unfortunately.
Thank George Newbern for that. ;) If those of you don't know, he's also known for the voice of Superman in most of the DC Comic hero series and Meyvn Nooj in Final Fantasy X-2 where Rick Gomez (Zack) and his own brother were Gippal and Baralai. And he's also from Father of the Bride movies and an assassin character in the primetime show called Scandal. I mean we all know he's the only undisputed VA for Sephiroth even though we all try to forget about the other time where in English version (which is in Kingdom Hearts 1) Sephiroth was originally voice acted by Lance Bass, a homosexual(no offense intended) member of the popular boy band called *N'SYNC. XD Well, I know I believed that he was a miscast back then, but I just don't know how the hell did he even get Sephiroth's part in the first place lol. With all the likes for his *N'SYNC background and due respect to his gay community, but his voice was too light for that badass character. Well, however, there's one good thing we can admit about Lance is that his *N'SYNC musics(even every other 90's classical musics) were WAY better than the nowadays musics(no offense to some of you). :P And the bright side is I would love to see him better off as a different Final Fantasy or the Kingdom Hearts character. Some say that maybe as Kuja or Zell or Genesis. A coincidental part is that both Lance and George had a same eye colors as Sephiroth. o_o
@@myschnozhurts1522 sorry, I didn’t communicate clearly enough. My B. I meant that he blocked Genesis with the standard-issue sword and Sephiroth with the Buster Sword because if he switched it around, Sephiroth would’ve shattered the Shinra sword instantly and killed him.
Damn, I remember watching this at the first time, the clash at 0:50 was something unbelievable. Sephiroth simply and elegantly holding back two attakers can be described as nothing but "Epic".
Also, this scene is actually really sad. Sephiroth seemed so happy and carefree here that it's really difficult to see him as a heartless, bloodthirsty heathen everywhere else. I wish Square would give us a chance to play as Sephiroth back when he was friends with Genesis and Angeal, so that way we could experience some fluffy happiness and not see him as a dark possessed person.
I wish that he could redeemed himself from his tragic past.....but i guess square enix won`t let that happen..he is already a villain so he`ll forever be a villain in the FF world..
@Damien villains are meant to be heartless my dear friend....square enix made him that way so don`t get too carried away . after all its just a game...
Lee Everett Bruh a katana is meant to be held with two hands not only that his using a 7 ft nodachi. A nodachi is a greatsword in Japan, and this kind of sword would require quite a massive amount of strength and skills to be held like a stick.
I am left handed too. Guts from Beserk, Artorias from Dark Souls, Sephiroth... the fact that all these great swordsmen are left handed always makes m think, 'hey maybe I could learn to do that'.
@@DepressoEspressoMusic artorias isn't left handed, he broke his right arm using his Greatshield to defend Sif, so he is right handed but his arm is better off gone
I had no clue who he was then watched this video the first time. I had a fight with him in kingdom hearts ( ps2 ) and was like "who the fuck is Sephiroth?". Went to yt put in his name and found this video, and then I was like "Holy crap this guy is cool!". Then I went to lean more about him.
When you were a kid, your parents allowed you to wave sticks around and make 'pew pew' noises and say it was normal. Now all you can get is a disappointed head-shaking... :(
Genesis: haha yes I got him. All he can do is block Sephiroth: good lord I forgot to bring my iPod so I can listen to my theme music. Darn it now how am I going to enjoy this match, oh well I suppose the tears from genesis crying will have to do
+The Owl Sephiroth: Genesis, question. How good at you at digging holes? Genesis: what in gods earth... Sephiroth: I mean besides the one you've dug yourself into
but geneses make seph feel the pressure I think genesis nearly won when he uses flare, but angeal interrups genesis' flare and seph get out of it in time. I think genesis would win and destroy everyone, including him hahahahaha
2:56 When Sephiroth cuts through those pipes in precise lines it’s pretty symbolic to tell that Genises here is crossing the line by going all in an blasting Angeal an all that, then Sephiroth proceeds to go all out after giving that death stare. My favourite part of the fight.
Genesis: Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall... my return. Sephiroth: To the training room? Yeah, cause you f@cking suck.
Genesis was part of project G, which meant he had jenova cells implanted into him as a fetus, but the cells were never fixed in the body, so over time genesis would start contracting symptoms of degradation. funnily enough, that scrape would never heal for genesis' entire life.
Shawnee Longbow Actually in Advent Children he does occasionally switch to a right hand stance. Sephiroth is left handed, but he trained himself to be ambidextrous, which is possible with practice.
Its crazy to see how commited square enix was to create this kind of graphic level juz for a game on that era.. even for 2020 its not that easy to create this kind of level for graphic
To be fair it was a CGI cutscene for this game. Games around this era like Sonic 06 also had the same quality of CGI graphics. Unless you were referring to in-game cutscenes, then yea they are quite smooth
Mr Lakiro yea ikr when i saw this on psp back then it was like the only game that had such realistic models and awesome cutscenes.. next up was metal gear and monster hunter... ahhhh the good ol days
I just noticed how Sephiroth simply says, "come and try" when challenged by Genesis to a kind of "hero test", but later in the game, when Genesis asks who of them would be the one to play the hero in an enactment of LOVELESS, Sephiroth says, "It's all yours." Plus I've been wondering lately what those hours in which Genesis "beat" LOVELESS into Sephiroth's head might've looked like.
