About 30 years ago I was on a business trip to London. Our contact took us to Windsor Castle the night before we were to leave, to visit and then to a pub right near. We had to walk down into a basement, I remember it was near a small leaning house, and we ordered some fish and chips and some beer. A few of the other patrons heard us talking and recognized our American (Yanks) accents. They asked if they could join our table. We started playing a game of imitating each other's accents. By the end of the night the whole pub was involved and I wet myself laughing. I had one of the best experiences of my life and will never forget it.
Me mouth's watering watching this 😋 we regularly use the one next to the Weatherspoons. Didn't even notice they had another shop next door to Mountain Warehouse....!!! Trenchers take away is also fabulous. I rate both of these 10/10....
I can hardly wait my son and i are going there in July my Ancestors are from there we live in London , Canada Douglas Salton , same as the village of Salton named after my Ancestors love watching your videos , And we will be eating there
I think it's really good that you're supporting local business. And wow that a fish or a whale lol. Nice golden batter looks fluffy too so cooked in clean oil. Shocked at the size of the curry sauce, you won't find a curry sauce in West Midlands that big from a chippy normally a farty little pot for similar price. Looks delicious food. Keep up the great vids!
I use to hate mushy peas till my friend told me about putting mint sauce in it. Game changer that is for me. Fish looks beautiful nice and crispy mmmmmm.
I was in sscarbrough for the weeklast year and I went to whitby for the day it was with the coach firm I went with on holiday and I went into that chippy last year for fish and chips it was such a lovely place clean the staff were dead friendly and the chips and fish freshly cooked what more do uou want .well you have to have fish and chips at the sea side I'm a new sub love fran xxx
Well thats my next place of call in oct when i will be in whitby it looks vary nice I have been the magpie that was nice to, By the way good video liverpool
All the times I’ve been to Whitby I’ve never once tried the Angel because I’ve always imagined it was just a tourist spot, situated as it is…will be giving it a go next time I’m there, the price is on a par with the price at my inland location for the same order, so absolutely worth a punt - thanks for the recommendation!
All places in Town get tourists as does the Little A. However it has many local folks use it as 'regulars' pub and it has a good following from the Goth / Alt communities.
Great vid! You should show us the trawlers if you happen to walk by them. Fish looks magnificent. Sauce looks mouth watering. Peas look delicious. Bravo for filming in situ.
Those looked great, not seen that one before but I guess I’m normally looking across the harbour as I walk on there. Have you tried that chippy in Sleights? I have heard that they are supposed to be nice but it’s not somewhere that I would normally think of stopping.
Always visit Whitby for me Birthday Treat at the end of MAY, Will defo try this place Mate, Thanks for showing Simon, I have Subscribed and liked, I will watch more of your Videos, Thank You for Filming Sir, I know how difficult it is .
"The fish are cought by Whitby traulers." That is as fresh as it gets.❤ I will take two Haddock no chips and take me a 8oz glass of some scotch from Perthshire and some fine cream😂. Oh boy I would be in heaven the rest of the day. WOWIE the jiggle on that gravy. Might need some of that too.😂❤
Oh my...that looks fantastic. Ex-UK (Lancashire) living in Australia now and we have nothing close to that here. If the North of UK weather was not so bad I would come back home just for that fish and chips.
Looks delicious and when I'm in Whitby a couple of months from now I'll definitely be going there. I can go cod or haddock, I love both, but I'd have to pass on the curry and go with gravy. Mushy peas and gravy for me every time.
Loved it. I'm a Yorkshire Man and have visited Whitby many times and ate lots of fish n chips there. Miss iit! Now live in New Zealand. Maybe you could suggest to them that they ceased using so much plastic! and throw away. Plastic everywhere. Not good for sustainablity and indeed ultimately for the fish themselves! Increase the price a liitle, Employ a washer up and all will be great! Cheers
Was told over 20 years ago by a chip shop owner, properly cooked brown chips don’t stay in good condition anything as long as soft undercooked chips in the chip hopper servery so most do ‘white’ chips to avoid waste. 40 years ago chippies opened for only a few hours a day and did them properly as ques out of the door. I would rate those f&c in this vid as a 7 at most due to the chips
Hi Simon just a catch up on the Angel Fisheries video.always good to see a full chippy, cafe, restaurant 😅 This place looked very neat, clean& tidy another good sign😊 Now the real deal,a very tasty looking fish&chips. Fair portion of chips, good chunky bit of cod( with a grand crunchy batter on it) Now my only problem is as a Southerner. Why north of Watford does the Law say curry sauce and or gravy to be served on crispy fried food???😮 Still each to there own 😊 Value for money, Good video.always a treat to watch😊😊Cheers 🥂 Allan&Family
Looks deliscious! Is Tartar Sauce a thing in the UK for Fish and Chips? In Canada the main addition to the fish is Tartar sauce along with Malt Vinegar and Ketchup for the Fries (chips) of course.
I had cod and chips in an English country cafe today….i opted for garden peas…when it came it had a chunk of lemon to squeeze on it, a condiment tray with bottles of HP sauce, Heinz Ketchup…salt and vinegar…also was a sprig of big Water cress …and DA DA! A little cardboard frilly open Kup cake container of Tar Tar sauce….actually on the plate but i ignored it as it looked a bit skinned over as if it had been on somebody else’s plate..if it looks appetising and fresh i will usually give it a go..but generally everybody either has red sauce or brown sauce on their chips and maybe salt and vinegar….in a restaurant….but if we are taking our fish and chips on the hoof we just have salt and vinegar..cress and lemon and tartar is just given in a restaurant to make the establishment appear posh..some people squeeze the lemon and usually ignore the tartar unless you’re trying to impress your date..if you’re trying to offend your date you will squirt brown sauce over your chips….having said that Mayonaise is incredibly popular on chips now because of “Pulp Fiction”. And there has always been a hardcore of afficionados who will want gravy ladelled all over their chips…but that is seen as very common and rude..but gravy and chips always makes people laugh ,as they are eating it other people around are shouting yeuch ! ! Then we have deep battered fried mars bars yeuch. !!!
A couple of years ago a visiting friend and myself, had gone to the Silver St. Chippery, but found it closed for hols.. Walked down to this one and sat in the window, when our portions came we were amazed, it was a regular barrow-load. Suitable for fork carrying professionals. Tourists looking questioningly at us as they walked by, we both nodded enthusiastically to confirm all was good, and they came piling in. As Simon has said Whitby has many fish and chip emporiums, but my old neighbor and me agree with him that this one facing the lifeboat station is going to take a lot to beat !
I'll be visiting here tomorrow after your review. Do you know if they cook them in beef dripping as opposed to vegetable oil? Im hearing yorkshire chips are commonly cooked in beef dripping and it makes a big difference, so I'm looking forward to trying some. So far, I've been to the Magpie take away, Mr Chips and Hadley's.
@@simplywhitby5356 no worries, I'll try them anyway, I'm sure they'll be great. I'm in Whitby today 8th August, so will keep an eye out and say hello. 👁
Hi hope you are well, just a follow up from my earlier comment. Went to our local chippy, I wish I could put pictures on here to show you. Large chips, easily enough for three people, fish, as big as a dinner plate, no exaggeration, steak pie, 2 sausages and a pot of curry sauce. We couldn't eat it in one go, had to save and go back later to finish. £12.50 The place is only open 4 nights a week and you have to queue, but worth it. Peter's Crispy Cod Doncaster
I’m sorry but these chip shop owners are climbing on the COVID band wagon cardboard box instead of plate plastic knives and forks and charging restaurant prices for take away service
Not a helpful comment, not even accurate. As the review said, Angel Fisheries is a fish and chip shop with tables. I can't think of any fish and chip shops that provide cutlery or crockery. Also, as far as price is concerned, fish restaurants in Whitby charge at least 50% more than Angel Fisheries.
My comments have nothing to do with my preferences. They have everything to do with accuracy and fairness so that those who read comments can have some confidence in them. Equally, business operators should be able to rely on comments that are made about them.
i used to like that place when it was siggys went in once when it changed hands and found it bang average but i do like sitting in at the quayside as the staff will help with my wifes wheelchair
