As you said, a little bit goes a long way. I'm still using the OG, and I'm still sooo afraid to try the new one. The old one is a pure heaven on my skin. Yes, there is patchouli, but it is both dirty and chocolaty. It's was a masterpiece, whoever decided to destroy it, they destroyed our dreamers. To me, it was a smell of hope, dreams, and strength. That shouldn't be messed with.
Exactly!!! I’ve had several bottles of the OG years back. Had I known that they were going to mess with it…I would have stocked up! I’m soooo upset that they reformulated it!!!!
Ah, Gabi, the Angel queen herself! You are out her doing great work for our fragrance friends. May everyone who loves Angel be able to get their hands on an original formulation. 👍👍👍
I wore Angel for 2 yrs in the 90’s-To me it smelled like pipe tobacco, slightly dirty skin, and angel food cake. Lasted all day! It was so different from anything I had ever smelled. Hope they bring back the original formula
This was my Aunt's signature and she only wore the body cream. Birthday and Christmas my uncle would give her a jar. It was strong she didn't need the spray. Without knowing the company changed hands she was telling my uncle to stop buying it online because he's getting fakes. I told her about the change in company /reformulation and it broke her little heart😢
We bought a reformulation this year for my mother and she went to return it immediately after her first use. She thought it was gone off in the store. They definitely changed the fragrance dramatically because she was upset.
Thank you for this! The Angel reforms I could live with, I still like it a lot but Alien was a criminal offense! L'Oreal butchers scents like its Halloween.
I agree with you, although the new version of angel is different it is still enjoyable, Alien on the other hand went from an obnoxious "in your face" sexy beast to a boring summer bed time scent, reminds me of lavender bags my mum used to put under our pillows when we were kids to have a better night sleep
I always go buy the colour the original looks a little greenish compared to the blues from the reformation I adore the original and wish they would go back to it it makes such a distinct statement and feet compliments every time I wear it live your descriptions glad I found you ❤️
I remember Angel in 1997. I was 18, too broke to be able to buy it, but I used to walk through Saks whenever I was at the Galleria and spray it on myself. It was very sweet, I could smell notes of white chocolate and cotton candy. I loved it! This year, I decided to buy a bottle. But before I did I smelled it at Macy’s… the first thought that came to my mind is “Patchouli” & that’s what I said to the SA. We both shook our heads. It’s not the Angel I remember. I don’t remember Angel smelling so strongly of patchouli. It was very gentle and sweet and chocolaty. I like this one but it’s not the original. I think Angel Muse is closer but it is still not as fluffy as the OG.
I also tried Angel in 1997, in April and thought that I never smelled any fragrance better before... it smelled like HEAVEN to me. I also did not buy it, it was too expensive. Later I ordered samples on ebay and thought it was for men. Tried a sample a month ago - hated it.
I tried it first in 1998, and I loved it. It quickly became my favorite. Now, I'm disappointed to know how easily a company would change the formula and pretend that it's the same. It certainly is NOT!!!!!! I'm very unhappy about this, and I wonder why they did it. Was it more expensive to make the old formula? I don't even care!! I want it back!!! Why, L'Oreal? Bring it back!!! Sorry for whining about this but it's a fact. We should write letters to Loreal and complain. Or someone needs to buy it and reproduce the ORIGINAL VERSION. I would love to buy it...
I too feel Muse is a closer version: at least to my memory of the og! Fragrance Lovers- don't you remember how huge the launch was for Angel? It was Remarkable!!! I traveled all over the US in those days and ANGEL WAS EVERYWHERE!!! And every fragrance lover wanted it or had it and went totally ham with it! Glory!
I want it back too, badly. I have dreams about it….that I was able to buy some. Please, please, please bring it back. I could literally cry and throw a tantrum….
Hey Gorgeous! My friend use to wear Angel before she passed away. Every time I smell it and see a bottle, I’m reminded of her. I never wore Angel the OG but I did own a bottle of Angel Violet and I loved it.
I have a bottle from maybe 2002 and the juice has gone greenish, but the smell…so good. I just got a new one today and while they are definitely not the same, I’ll wear the new one and save the old one for special occasions. I love it so much. Funny thing is, my mom’s boss used to wear it in the 90’s and I thought I hated it because of how it smelled on her. It’s my favorite of all time now. Thank you so much for this video
My signature fragrance along with jimmy choo edp I do miss the old formulation from 1998 but still wear it and still love it I wore it today it’s addictive to me I can’t get enough lol lovely upload you hit the nail on the head it’s the candy floss that’s missing couldn’t figure it out until you mentioned it thank you so so much gabi x x x❤️😘❤️
Think there are three versions of Angel like you said, you can really tell by the color! I have one from 2002 original batch with the brownish green color, it has a strong smoky/chocolate quality. My favorite is the 2006-2010 the greenish blue, the boxes have both Thierry Mugler and Mulger listed. I think the "middle formula" is the most balanced. The current one has a different qualify, less dark like the liquid. I do love how bright the opening is on the current formula. It's getting harder to find the original formula!
I just got a 75ml bottle with pump spray from the 90s still sealed and in the original cardboard box protected from light etc...no website address on the box and curved signature....omg it is arriving in 3 days I am so freaking excited I can not tell you thank you for this great video, for years I wore this fragrance and now hate the new formula and have not been able to find any perfume that I like for years! The true angel smell that I remember had an exquisite smell and I can not wait to smell it again
@@thefragrantician I will it is the 1998 glamour star with pump :) I almost don't want to unbox it it is so rare but I will so that I can enjoy it for many years to come. I was literally devastated when the very new one came out. You are correct it 'lacks' is weak and is harsh in some way and overtly floral. The Angel I loved was not floral at all and totally unique, captivating in some way. I will comment when it arrives
Amazing comparison of such a stunning fragrance! I’m absolutely loving my bottle of Angel, I’m so happy I was able to get my hands on it. I agree that there seems to be something missing from the current version 🤍💙
Completely agree Chantel. There's a rough edge to it. It feels unfinished. I like it none the less but anything before 2012 in my opinion is better than the current formulation. People actually complained it was too strong so why full the sweetness and amp up the patchouli. I love patchouli but it's too earthy and woody and doesn't balance the rest out. Oh well its one fragrance we will nurse and savour the OGs 😀💙❤💜
This has been my signature scent since 1992. I’m a little sad when I smell Angel today, I still wear it, but it’s not the same. The original was much more complex. Missing today is the cotton candy and strawberries, the brown sugar and pralines, the coffee and butter chocolate. Today’s Angel is not the same.
I was introduced to Angel in 2003 when I was 18, my boyfriend (now husband) bought it for me in the very first days we met. I was immediately addicted. I don't really care if it has been reformulated. To me it still smells the same. As the years pass I keep discovering new facets of this juice. It might be the reformulations, but it IS still Angel. I will keep wearing it forever and alternate with the EDT in summer on very warm days. My husband never said I smell different, so that confirms it to me.
It’s definitely different. I know MANY Angel Addicts, and they’ve all said the exact same things for years now- and none of them know each other to where they would have discussed this…different friends from different groups of friends.
i find today's loreal reformulation of angel to be a very sharp, cold almost artificial patchouli and not much else! it's definitely lacking the warmth and fullness and complexity that it was once renowned for. thankfully i have many mid 2000's bottles and even a couple 1992 bottles backed up in my collection! x
Angel was my signature for a solid 6 years, starting in the mid-2000s. I found that even by 2015, it had changed: I get grapefruit in the opening; it is much less sweet; the patchouli is making barely a cameo. It is not nearly as intoxicating as it used to be, and I am merely thinking of the mid-2000s formulation!
I would love to get my hands on an original formulation, it was one of my first perfume loves and the first and only perfume that was my signature scent 👍💕🙌🏽
This fragrance was absolutely fantastic! 😢 FANTASTIC! Alien was was also so intoxicating, so memorable, so incredibly long lasting! 😢 both were heavy in my fragrance rotation for years. Once the reformulation happend I was finished with both. How sad 😔 such a pitty that so many amazing fragrances have become a slight memory of what they once were!
I do know it doesn't smell the same as back in the day. But appreciate all the differences explained 🙂 it is definitely one of them that will be here forever. Great video Gabi
Angel Thierry Mugler to me was love at first smell in April 1997. I wanted to bathe in it. But did not buy it because of the price. Later in 2005 I smelled Angel Garden of Stars and loved Le Lys and Violette. I would exchange some of rare fragrances in my collection for these 3 Angels without hesitation.
Try adding five or ten drops of pure ambrette oil into 100ml of Angel edp . This will amp up the longevity of the reformulated angel while making it a bit warmer and deeper !
My darling thanks for this video I love it. I'm lucky to own a bottle of OG Angel but I'm afraid to spray it 😇 I'm gonna hold on to it forever 😁💙💙💙 it's magical, unique, my first and my biggest LOVE
Oh I am so happy I found this video! The forst time I smelled Angel was maybe 2000. Couldn’t afford it. Years and years later I decide to buy it and what is this!? It smells different. After this video I found two tiny bottles of 1992 scent and grabbed them!
In my opinion nothing compares to the original that was my first love and introduction to the world of fragrances I did purchase one from fragrancenet don’t even know which reformulation I emailed the company to complain 🤣🤣🤣 it was horribly I told them that is not my Angel! 😂. I thought it was a fake all I smelled was pure honey!😏 some things should be left alone , this was a great video ❤️✨✨ I’m starting to question how long and old the bottles are at the shops 😳
Thanks for the vidéo at Angel, i love the fragrance me too 😊 i find à Pity that they reformulated it it was so magical before ❤

Thank you so much. I absolutely loved (past tense!) Angel…and after purchasing recently purchasing new bottles and wondering what was WRONG! Now I know. To my disappointment they are the new formula. Eternally disappointed and hundred of dollars down the tube!😢
Can anyone make a suggestion for where to buy the original formulation? I do love the 2006 formulation just as much and would definitely purchase that one as well!
I've been wearing Angel since 1992 and I feel the new one is ok, but leaves you wanting... Like eating diet ice cream. It can't compare. You're right, the OG was naughty!!
I’m so sad that it’s been reformulated so horribly . I love the new Angel from 2022 but I can only imagine how much more I would love the older version 😢💙💙💙⭐️I’m still going to wear the new one but I wish I had a chance to experience the older one 😢
I remember going to Sephora a couple of moths ago to check out some fragnances. One of them was reformulated Angel. It was my first time with that fragnance, i didn't know what to expect. I smelled bland men's cologne and quickly forget about it. But a month ago I was about to buy a decant of an old Alien, and a girl who sold me it asked me, if I want something else because she is a collector of Thierry's fragnances. Well I wanted to try an old Angel. When my package has arrived I immediately sprayed Angel on me. "Oh dear Baphomet, how it stinks" - i thought. I smelled... A cow poo. But I left it on my wrist to see how it will develop in time. I was reading a brand new book. I was reading, and still smelling something from time to time... "This paper has a really strong and cozy sweet scent what the heck" came to my mind. And then I sniffed my wrists... That was it. I fell in love.
I'd love to do a comparison, but vintage bottles are way out of my price range unfortunately. I could wish upon a Mugler star I somehow manage to find it in some old junk shop for dirt cheap but... not betting on it. I paid $80 for a 50ml bottle of the current formula and I'm still waiting on it's arrival to try it out. Hope it still does something for me as I was getting very excited for this scent. I wanted to make a splash for the new year and start wearing something a bit more 'attention seeking' LOL. If it's really not that strong, why is it still so divisive on the fragrance forums??
Can someone tell me when a fragrance is so popular why would they change it..as a consumer not fair to call it Angel I had no clue changed..how do they get away with that. Tricking us we are buying Angel and not let you know ..They change should change name or tell you discontinued
I prefer to wear Angel Muse EDP (not EDT) instead of the present version. I don t know why it reminds me more about the first version. Or maybe is just in my head :)) But I really do find them quite similar :)
I have worn angel perfume for years... over I'd say 10 years. I went to get my refill and I did not notice that Dillard's department store was refilling it with the angel elixir I do not like it. I watched your article which explains that I was not mistaken. It is a different formula! i'm going to search and search until I can find the perfume that I fell in love with years ago Because this is not it!😢
The OG always has a curve on the box in the logo. If you search hard enough on e Bay and private sellers there are quite a few. The code is on the underside of the box it's usually a 6 digit code.
@@thefragrantician yes, it's a bit too much for summer but in spring and the fall it's amazing on me, it works great with my body chemistry, I am trying to get more bottles before they all disapear. 🙂
I appreciate the thorough review!! I would love to try to the OG but it's so hard to find and I'm not willing to pay too much money for it. I would love to know if it's worth trying the newest version of it? I ordered one online thinking I was getting an older one but it was the new one. Should I even bother unboxing it? Or just get rid of it? I was thinking I could mix it with a cotton candy perfume🤷♀️
Hey Carmen. ❤️ I honestly think the new version isn't as good,as the OG, however if you have a barh and body works fragrance you could layer it. I've done it with the very sweet versions. 😋
I’m loving Angel edp now! and I’ve been enjoying all of your videos and your passion for Angel :) I recently received my vintage Angel edp according to batch code it’s either 2006 or 1996 no box. I didn’t know Angel then so I have no way of knowing which it is or any differences but vintage is very lovely and much more rounded/sweet and less stinky than todays version for sure
my theory is that they wanted to keep the liquid a pretty blue hue because vanilla and sweet aromachemicals tend to turn dark yellow when exposed to sun/time etc
Just arrived! I smell the caramel, cotton Candy, maybe praline, chocolate mint and earthy patchouli like truffles - pure magic! It probably doesn’t have mint but I pick up mint like I do with Alien. Such a treasure. Thanks for your review of the vintage I felt more confident in buying it. I wish they would bring back the OG.
Help!! I just bought a bottle of Angel from the private marked that doesn’t smell anything like the Angel in the store by MUGLER. It seems to have changed color too and isn’t as blue. It doesn’t say MUGLER on the side it’s Thierry Muglers signature. It’s INTENSE!!! One spray is enough for gah the whole day is day. I sprayed on the back of my hand and washed my hand after and it still smells. The one in the store is sweet and round. This one is VERY sweet after the alcohol goes away, and it has more of a flower, almost moss like. This tone the goes away and then it’s like a 90’s party going on. Very sweet, almost like a sweet leather smell. It’s a 25ml bottle, non refill.. What did I buy?? I didn’t get it with a box so I can’t check for some pointers here.
It sounds like it is,a vintage one but I would always buy one with a box preferably sealed. It is meant to be that colour it sounds like you scored a vintage!!
@@thefragrantician thank you so much for your response! Yay you saw me hiiii:) thank you!!! On the bottle top, which is a non refillable one it says Mfd: Thierry Mugler Parfums, followed by the address and made in France. It also says Vaporisateur Naturel Eau De Parfum :) She sold it to me because it was way to intense for her. She had inherited it. Wow could it really be a gem?:)❤️❤️ thank you so much for your help and your energy and videos !!! I sprayed like I did in the store and almost knocked my self out. It was intense. I just took a nap and it’s still there on my 🤚🏽
I just bought online and received the angel that has the curved signature , it came with no box ! I just sprayed it and it smells good but very light scented almost like a skin scent ! Isn’t angel suppose to be a power house? Do I need to let it set untouched for awhile? Can they lose their potency?
Dear Gabby! Thank you for your knowledge and your replies! Since last time I’ve managed to seek out another bottle of 50ml of what I think is the first tweek. I have also found 2 vintage 4 ml with the OG. I can definitely smell the difference of todays Angel and the older versions. THANK YOU!!! 💙😇😇😇😇😇💙
Thank you for sharing. I have an empty refillable bottle of Angel, can't remember the year I got it and a recent one. It has really changed. Patchouli is definitely predominantly the strongest ingredient in the new formula as opposed to the old one. One thing I loved about the old version was a feeling of ice, something very cold, sweet but iced, like a frosted candy and on the current I do not get it. I kid you not but somedays when I wear it, on the first 15 minutes smells straight up ass. Honestly on those days I just loose my mind... It's impressive that brands listen to people easily offended by someone's tastes but don't listen to people when they like their fragrances and discontinued them. Piss me off... Anyway, I love Angel nonetheless, it will always be in my collection. Big kiss ❤️💋
Absolutely not! It's turned this colour because of the vanilla and sweet notes. That's why it was formulated I believe so it would stay blue. Get it if you can!
I hated this perfume growing up as everyone wore it. As I got older I really loved it and now you can’t get hold of the original formula. I’m too scared to buy ones advertised as original as there are so many fakes out there!🥲 so sad that I didn’t get home while they were still the original formula
L’Oréal downgraded the quality of the perfumes to the gutter. The only last decent formulations are from 2018 when the company was still owned by clarins, so if you find those go for them without second thought! Combing all these with the death of Sir Mugler himself makes me realize what a true end of an era it is 🥲
