Alright, as a 67 year old today, I too loved Lost in Space and had a crush on Angela. Back in Los Angeles where we lived, the studio or something said if you wanted to send a letter to your favorite cast member, here is the address. I actually did and several weeks later I got a 5x7 picture of Angela Cartwright in the mail and it was addressed to me...and she signed it.......I am pretty sure she really did sign it LOL! I had bragging rights at school...no others had a picture of her except me! Ah 1967.........those were the days huh?
Back when the show was on ~ magazines ran ads ~ selling publicity photos of 100's of stars ~ for $1 each~ I only ever bought one ~ that was one of Angela
The only reason I watched Lost in Space was because I had seen Angela Cartwright in The Sound of Music, and consequently, I developed a pretty substantial crush on her. I wrote her a fan letter in 1966, and she had hand-written a beautiful (her penmanship is like calligraphy), four-page response, on very nice personal stationery. She was a class act, and I became forever smitten.
I definitely had a crush on Angela Cartwright when I was growing up. She was always so beautiful, poised, and charming. When I see her now in this video, her beauty and charm still come through. She's obviously a very intelligent person as well, which explains why she was a very accomplished actress at such a young age and throughout her career. She will always be very special to me since she was a part of what was iconic on television, especially The Danny Thomas Show (she was so adorable and funny) and Lost in Space (her character, Penny, made the show relatable to me since she was closest to my age, the prettiest girl in the cast IMHO, and brought warmth to the family atmosphere aspect of the show). Her presence in any TV project or big screen movie (The Sound of Music is one of the biggest and best movies of all time) always brought class and professionalism.
"Penny" was my favorite character on the show, forever apart of my 60s childhood, Angela looks great here and also fond memories of her in " The Sound of Music"....
I was very young when Lost in Space was on. I thought Angela Cartwright was beautiful. Of coarse she was and is. What a beautiful person, inside and out. I recognized her in Sound of Music right away when I saw it sometime later. Thanks for having her on. What a pleasure, even heart warming.
Angela is just a fantastic person on all counts. Love how she explains her view of space exploration in comparison of being a talented, beautiful actress that got to be part of all this on a well liked fantasy show that still gets large viewers that weren't even born yet when Lost in Space was on primtime. She is a realistic lady that makes everyone comfortable listening to her views and opinions when interviewed. To this day still occasionally watch Lost in Space on the well done MeTv Sci fi Saturday nights. Also love the second List in Space instrumental that starts with the 7 number countdown as it starts. Tha whole cast looks so cute and inspiring in that video opening the show. Angela seems to be a very unique, down to earth lady and like many enjoyed this interview.
Lost in Space was the beginning of my love affair with science fiction shows, Star Teek, & then Star Wars. As a kid in grade school, part of my routine was to race home Monday to Friday, get a snack & watch Lost in Space at 3pm. Television was so new & it took me out of my painful childhood for one half an hour each afternoon. Guy Williams was also the lead character on Zorro. He was very handsome. I was the tv generation then. Still love TV to this very day. For years our first TV was a black & white set before we brought a color set for our living room. TV then was the center of my childhood. I also watched Bonanza with my dad, a fond memory for me. On Bonanza the women never fared very well. I don't remember watching The Danny Thomas Show. I enjoyed watching this interview with Angela. Thank you for posting.
I loved Lost in Space since I was 8 years old. 51 years later I still do. I still watch at least 1 episode per week. Seasons 2 and 3 can get a bit campy and the special effects a bit cheesy, but that's ok, it just makes me laugh and that is a good thing. The show always had a lot of heart and that is what it all boils down to in the end.
You and Bill were definitely role models for me, Angela and Lost in Space was a favorite show! (I was born in '53.) Back in the 60s we all watched the same TV shows, talked about them at school, and looked forward to the next week's episode. TV was awesome. Rock music was awesome. It was a great time!!!
Great interview. It is so refreshing to see a non self-centered know-it-all actor. I grew up watching Angela and always admired her. What ever she did through the rest of her life, she has done it well.
I had a crush on Angela in 1967. The reason Australia loves "Lost In Space" is because 3/4 of The Continent looks like a Desolate Planet from the show. Even without The Weird Aliens...
When I was a kid in the mid sixties, there were two shows on tv that absolutely fascinated me and totally blew me away, #1: Batman, and #2: Lost in Space!!! I remember having a huge crush on Penny in Lost in Space.
I always loved Veronica and Angela. They looked so much alike at younger ages that I thought there was only one actress and she kept changing her name. Little did I know. Great girls, great family. Thank you for all you girls have done.
😆💖😆 Lol. 🤣 I confused 🤔 Veronica and Angela too. Glad they were 🚫 not sucked into the dysfunctional Hollyweird vortex!!! Such strong child actors. Angela was my favorite in "The Sound of 🎵 🎶 Music;" Veronica moved me when she cried over her Mort ☠️ teacher in "The Birds."✨🕊️✨🕊️✨
A riveting and fascinating interview, and yes, I did have a huge crush on Angela as a fan of both the Danny Thomas show & Lost in Space. It is a bit strange seeing her at age 69 but I am 73 now and it's a bit strange looking in the mirror these days.... Lol. Time marches on!
I was the perfect age when LIS premiered. It was one of my favorite shows- As a designer, pretty much all my life, even at that age, but, I never realized it would be my lifelong work, I was greatly influenced by the sets, costumes, home and of course, Billy! I never understood why this wonderful, popular show was taken off the air. Thank you for this beautiful interview and all your wonderful work, Angela!
On certain words, like "show" and "set" she still sounds a little British. She has admitted to having a very heavy UK accent at the time she first landed the role of Linda on "Danny Thomas". That makes her portrayal of a loud, brash, LONG ISLAND/BROOKLYN kid all the more impressive. On her site she said that when she started playing Penny she was actually playing herself, and not acting
Angela is right on , everything she said. I had a huge crush on her back then. I was 9 wen lost in space was out. I love ❤️ her she is a very intelligent women . Gourgios lady
My brother, sister and I watched all the original shows when they came out in the 60's. I love all the characters and remember the robot waving his arms and shouting "Danger danger Will Robinson"! I still say that when things are crazy! I actually love the Vegetable episode! It was funny and silly and still makes me laugh at 63 years old! Thanks for these interviews!
When she mentioned visiting NASA and having much of the staff telling her LIS was the reason they got into the space program.....I can relate! I'm wrapping up a great 43 year career as a laser/electro-optical engineer who has worked on almost every type of laser there is. A huge motivating force was watching LIS and Johnny Quest...They both featured laser weapons and I thought "That is so cool"!
I'm 80 yo now and I always watched Lost in Space and all the things she was in. I enjoyed her telling us about her times as an actor. I didn't want it to end because she made it so fascinating to hear. Thanks for interviewing her.💞
I'm 66 and Lost in Space was my favorite show when I was a kid and is still one of my all time favorites. I was in love with both Penny and Judy at the time and the robot had such an impact on me. To me it was so much better than Star Trek, so much more relatable but I do think that the writers and show runners lost their way a bit. And I absolutely agree with Angela about how the nightly news has become a tool to influence the way the general public think on so many issues.
Angela and I are the same age; I loved her on Danny Thomas and I was thrilled to see her in The Sound of Music. She's so smart and has a great assessment of the business. Great interview.
Gosh, she's SUCH a nice lady, and "Yes" I DID have a crush on her as Penny, when she had gotten older & "blossomed". - I mention that just so she doesn't think falsely that Marta got all the adoration.
i love hearing about these shows from the 60's that i remember watching as a kid. i'm hispanic, my skin can get very dark after being in the sun. when i watched these shows growing up, i never thought i couldnt be like one of the characters because of my skin color. and it was never said to me by an adult either. it was a fun and innocent time. i miss the tv theme songs the most, they were wonderful. what a pleasure angela cartwright is.
I was so surprised and honored to meet Angela when I had a cafe in Burbank and she had a card and flower shop down the street. Very nice and welcoming! And yes.... I spent a bunch there lol!!!
Years ago I saw her on a talk show with other former child actors. She was the only one who was positive about her childhood acting experiences. She looked baffled at the comments of the others. I don't even remember who the others were, but I never forgot her contributions.
Angela was good in Lost in Space and also Sound of Music. Her in sister also acted alot as a child and was that terrified woman in the original Alien movie
Tant mieux pour toi et ta soeur, les annees 60 etaient en effet la meilleure epoque, non seulement a Londres mais en Europe, cette epoque me manque vraiment.
Angela was one of the main reasons I watched Lost in Space when I was a boy, she was a beautiful girl and very nice and I had a strong crush on her then and she is still a very beautiful woman today and still very nice
Had such a crush on Penny on the show:) Loved the family in space concept...Will was great and June Lockhart made a great mother..Dr. Smith was over the top but did the best he could with the the scripts he had:) Angela is a great actress and nobody could ask for a better representative for the show ! It was a good part of growing up...Super interview ! Live on Lost in Space !
I will never forget the Lost in Space episode where Penny befriended a disembodied voice in a cave, it was lonely and I cried and cried, it was so sad, became a family joke for years that I cried watching Lost in Space 😅
I Remember the first episode of Lost in Space shown in UK , I was in hospital and had a TV in my room. I watching it and my Aunt and Uncle visited me and my elfin uncle turned off TV in mid episode took 20 yrs to see that episode again LOL . But what little I saw Hooked me :)
I remember, as a teen, (I'm the same age as Angela) they either did a new version of the Danny Thomas show, or a special....? I only remember, Angela/ Linda wanted to get her driver's license!!! I live in Connecticut, an hour from NYC!! I remember thinking, "No Way, wld. I ever want to drive - in NYC !!! 💗 And I remember Lost in Space, when the Dad was talking to the kids, & he wished they were back on earth, so the kids cld have a normal teen life, listening to rock n roll 🎶, & going out on dates...!!!! 💗💗💗
Over 30 years ago Me and my daughter was helping out some friends of ours who owned the Dance studio that my daughter started at. Gloria was my daughter Tap teacher who was a actress that has work for Deslou productions on radio and TV. We were cleaning out a storage that belong to Gloria Mother who was a agent before her passing. As we were going though hundreds of head shots I come across Ms Angela Cartwright head shots as a teen I think and had to tell my daughter that Ms Cartwright was my first TV Crush . I wish I have save A few of them now.
Interesting insight from someone who's been there from a ridiculously early age. I watched LIS as a kid. Looking back, I think the first season was exceptional, but it became less so after that IMO. But it was still entertaining! BTW, I love her sister!
I threw my LIS lunchbox and thermos away in 1979. One of the few regrets I have in life. Angela Cartwright what a beautiful woman. Billy Mumy loved her too.
