@@JayJay-nc7pr I was wondering when I was going to see someone bring up Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Veronica could have totally been leading lady if that movie had had a sequel. :)
WONDERFUL as Jack's oblivious mother on Will & Grace, we know where he got it from - the oblivion & the butt squeezing. Your children will be retiring on that Hitch sketch, do Sotheby's know?
She seems so charming, so unlike most child stars, just like, "oh I did that, it was fun, don't make too much of it, I still cook steaks they way he told me."
That's right!! Her body of work is incredible, yet few people even recognize her contributions to television, and film. From the Twilight Zone to The Sound of Music, there she is!!!
Yeah, well I met both Ms. Hedren and Ms. Cartwright in Chicago a few years ago, and while I was, of course, in awe of Tips, I had no idea Veronica had grown up to be such a cool, funny and down to earth lady-- just like she is in this video. She was very nice to me, with no interest in doing anything but meeting and greeting and talking with the fans she seemed almost surprised to learn she had. Ms.Cartwright made a lifelong fan of me. You're a Hole, roadtweeker-- of monumental proportions.
The Birds was my mom's favorite movie. I finally watched it again after not really being impressed with it when I was younger, and I have to say my mom was not wrong. Great movie!
I love “behind the scenes” info. I’ll think about what’s been said here by the actors while watching this movie now. Some things I’ve heard before. The drums and Buddy becoming friends with Ms. Hedren. I remember so well going to this movie as a child with my older sister and her best friend. What we did often on Sunday afternoons .
Hitchcock's birthday gift to Veronica was warm and wonderful!!!Veronica is a marvelous and unpretentious actress, and sister of Angela, who was in Make Room For Daddy and Lost in Space.
never mind the shower scene from Psycho - Veronica's death in Alien was truly horrifying, even though you didn't see it you saw it coming and then you heard it - trauma.
Veronica Cartwright must be an amazing person to interview. She was a child actress to some of the most amazing movies and I think her sister was as well. I would love to someday interview them and get their thoughts and opinions and info on some of these classics now that the main leads have died.
There is a RU-vid video of an interview that features Angela and Veronica, and as other people here noted, both are marvelous and very down to earth. As someone with 4 sisters, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well they get along (I hope that wasn't an act) and they have apparently gotten along all their lives. It was kind of interesting how Veronica related that there was no chance for a real sibling rivalry even when they often auditioned for the same role. Both accepted that her sister didn't get "the" role because she was so much better, it was usually as simple as being the older or younger sister. And I agree, Veronica is a very under rated actress, and it truly is amazing the roles she has played. I would love to read a joint sister memoir.
Fascinating to see and hear all about the making of The Birds, Veronica Cartwright tells a brilliant account and Ms Hedren still looks as stunning as an older lady.
Cartwright has always been a fine actress and a welcome sight on the screen. She gave child actors a good name again. She wasn't cute. She was just good.
Unclealand... Wow what a shit comment. There isn't anything wrong her looks! She looked like a typical 60s kid. Your kind of a creepy jackass! Who says that?
@@Catherine-2 I didn't take it that way. I think the OP was saying that Veronica had none of that cutesy wootsey wootsey quality that makes so many child actors obnoxious. There is nothing wrong with Veronica's looks. I think she is pretty. And has a totally cool sounding voice.
One of the great cinematic anecdotes of all time at 7:24. 'Opening a door that isn't there'. A lesson from Hitchcock in pure cinema. And by the way I LOVED Veronica in the terrifying remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
I met Tippi Hedren and Veronica Cartwright last year at a benefit performance of "The Birds" a parody/homage play staged in Chicago. Tippi was the guest of honor and actually played a small role in the play. She signed my program "With fear,Tippi"! Still very beautiful and a gracious lady!
I remember my family and relatives gathered in the living room to watch Alfred Hitchcock movies on TV. So when The Birds movie was shown in our school assemblies during lunchtime or school periods I would see this classic movie til now in 2024. This was a treat to watch! Thank you 🙏❤
Thank you for sharing this insightful, warm, insightful, actress, Veronika Cartwright with us. Every movie, I have seen her acting in...she is excellent. Inspiring.
Love love love Veronica! She can convey true hysteria on film better than any actor, past or present. Also she's equally skilled doing comedy (i.e. Witches of Eastwick, Will & Grace).
Veronica Cartwright was all over TV in the 50s & 60s--Leave it to Beaver, Twilight Zone, etc. It's a shame Rod Taylor recently passed on. Oh, well at least a long life. Fascinating vid here, lots of background info. thanks.
My dad use to take my sister and I to Bodega Bay during the summer when I lived the area during the 70's and 80's. I moved to go to college and that's when I saw the movie the Birds. I just remember that place, The Tides, smelling of fish and always really cold.
Veronica is a very good actress as is Angela. In The Birds watch her closely in the car scene after they rescue her when Suzanne Pleschette is killed. When she tells them what happened her crying and description is so moving especially when she says " Annie she pushed me inside" brings tears to viewers
Hitchcock loved blond women very femme fatale.... Like Kim Novak, Tippi Hedren, Grace Kelly, Eva Marie Saint and many else.... They were iconic blond women in Hitchcock fantasies...
Veronica is a very good actress, i love the presence shes cause at scenes. i watched Alien right now and i fallen in love with her, i wanna see all the movies shes makes
🎬 Such a classic film. I always cranked up the volume a little bit when the birds attacked. 🤔 You noticed there's no musical soundtrack, right? "The Birds" were the soundtrack.
I saw this movie as a kid in the theater when it came out with my little friends. No accompanying adults. Along with "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" Big mistake. Those two movies really shook me up.
the birds is still one of the most horrifying films ever made, when i was a little kid seeing that man with his eyes pecked out and the dead woman on the steps of her house pecked to death scared me for years , all those birds that attacked in that dark upstairs bedroom , ooooh the terror
Yeah I'm a huge huge fan of her (Alien's my favorite movie and she was AMAZING in Alien!) She also seems like the sweetest person based on interviews and can play more than just the "scream queen" role she does so well. In fact, she was actually originally going to play Ripley before Sigourney got the part!
She probably was some day but she found fame later in life so she always played a grandma or the mother, and that’s how she’s mostly remembered by the general public.
alexcnb Jessica Tandy might have found movie fame later in life but she was an acclaimed Broadway actress. She was the original Blanche du Bois in Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway alongside Marlon Brando in 1947.
I've been fascinated by this movie from the first time I watched it. I had to wait at least 14 yrs before I got my driver's license to actually search around for filming locations I couldn't find any that I could recognize. Hollywood tricks of the trade secrets threw me off a bit the first time I went looking
Love this movie and think all the actors did a great job. Can never get over the weird layout of that house though. The stairs went backwards toward the front door (didn’t match the exterior), the mother’s bedroom was on the first floor next to the front door, what was that wooden door thing next to the piano. And the outside chimney didn’t match where the fireplace would be. Yet it had a cozy comfortable interior, probably the Brenners were the richest people in town. And they had a dishwasher in 1963 in the middle of nowhere.
Look luv, `Rod Taylor was actually carrying a double down the stairs because Tippi was in hospital suffering from exhaustion`..I`d like to know what really happened...if Hedren was used by the director as a guinea pig and expired during the unexpected `real` bird attack? There is a photo of her (appears dead) lying on a bed at Universal Studios after having shot the fatal scene. The upshot is probably that she was taken to hospital to recuperate. If she had for any reason not pulled through what do you think they would have said? She was a suicide...having a hard time with the role..problems with her marriage and money..etc. Hitchcock took unacknowledged chances with actresses. I doubt Hedren has even been told what actually happened.
And all we seem to get today is juvenile crap, shot on hyper-expensive video cameras trying to pass off as actual film. Sometimes I wish that I'd been born ten years earlier, just for the extra decade of quality I could have experienced then.....
I believe she hung out at the Teen Center on Victory Blvd. Just N. of Encino off of Louise Ave. Been a few years but her and Angela....pretty sure. Of course this was in the 60s...been a few years
Great actress who should have been a LOT bigger, with a unique quirkiness and dramatic range that was undeniable. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) and Alien, cemented it for me. Her sister, Angela, was a cast member on Lost in Space(60's version).
Lovely lady aa film . I did visit in 2005 some of the places , like bodega bay . The church that stood in for the school house . Also did you know veronica was first chosen to play riply in Alien movie . Before Miss Weaver was on board .
Isn't it great? She does drama and comedy equally well. When I saw her on Will & Grace I was a bit mad she didn't get to do more episodes. Can you imagine her, Debbie Reynolds (Grace's Mom), and Blythe Danner (Will's Mom) in one extended episode?
