I'm glad to see that sister Angela is still on the case, still in the Struggle....which is more than what can be said about most of her critics and enemies.
@Angel19403 Men like this have no logic or proof of that. Even if I don't agree with everything Angela Davis says I do think she did a lot for the Black Power Movement and she speaks out against black issues in an intelligent and insightful manner.
@2Baiforev. actually i've graduated college. black men dont run hip hop but yeah when the only thing be promoted is sell out music and many rappers are replaceable while those that pull the strings aint. take off the black mask and its likely a white face under it. i ve said rap music is the new black face. if blacks were running hip hop then thats one thing but blacks and even though most rappers are blacks most of the $ is entering white hands just like back in the days with blues.

I remember your brilliant words, "Shut the mother fucker down!". I hope those words are carved in Mount Rushmore one day. Right next to busts Malcolm X and you.
Happy Birthday to a strong and inspirational black woman, Angela Davis. Even though this speech was delivered in the year 2000, thank you for this because what you say is still relevant in 2013.
Most black people have been desensitized to caring about anything. It takes a lot of energy and study and meeting people patiently listening to their issues to advocate for needed change on a continual conscientious basis. It take time and strength and a great deal of understanding to effect change. Angela Davis has always had her head in the right place, her heart open, a convincing articulation to bring attention to those social injustices that are archaic in practice and overdo for revamping. she doesnt even like black men. i dont like this chick and only divides us. woman are not oppressed. gay woman, black women, colored yes but not just woman. the system is white centered so white women benefit from it as do their men so why are black women fighting with white women unless they want to maintain white dominance over blacks. she prefer the power structure over her own kind. its one thing to date all races its another to not date black men at all and say u speak 4 black women.

@mykole84: Firstly you are making sweeping generalizations, obviously you are not a woman. Also, in neglecting class, you further show a simplistic explanation of oppression. Take your idolization of the vanguard elsewhere. Also, don't control a woman's sexuality, people can be romantically involved with who they want to be with.
Summing up from Europe, after several revolutions, and many generations of Marxist and socialist initiatives, and as someone who remembers Ms Davis from the 1960`s, where she certainly played an important part in the battle for social and racial justice. 3 Cs... Co-operatives. Communities. Charitable works. No militarisation. No nationalism. No corporatism. Equal rights of global travel for both capital and labour. Many thanks for posting the speech...:).
I don't advocate violence to further any cause. However, I do believe that all of us should speak back to power and demand justice. We pay a heavy price when we're exercising our rights but we pay an evern bigger price when we stand by in silence.
