Scum doesn't even come close what's their latest picking on trans kids who have the highest level of suicide of any teenage group not keeping benefits in line with inflation so we can push a few thousand more kids into poverty?
And fail the same way Corbyn did? By scaring off right-leaning swing voters by being too socialist? Kier's job is to appeal to those voters so they actually get a chance to implement the things Angela's talking about.
Angela Rayner has lived & experienced poverty she knows first hand what poverty under the Tories really is. Her speech has returned hope. It made me so emotional. I couldn't hold back the tears, not because of despair or sadness, because of joy & hope that there will be better times ahead. But we have to get rid of the current scumbags infesting Parliament and calling themselves a government.
These are the type of things Labour should be talking about, everyday people need some hope for a fairer society. Her constituency is next door to mine, we’re straight talkers around here and I’ve not had any reason to doubt Angela is as well.
Middle of the road pragmatists I suspect, rather than neoliberals. Step 1 get elected, step 2 try to repair some of the damage, step 3 be more progressive (here's hoping)
It has nothing to do with "neoliberals" or "socialists" or any other vacuous terminology. It's a matter of Brits being ignoramuses about labour law, which exists in the developed world, but not in the UK. It goes far beyond zero-hour contracts. And it isn't a phenomenon of this millennium. Brit workers have been shafted by the loony concept of "employment law" which allows any fraudster and crook to do whatever the heck he likes, and has been thus since ever. But I live in hope that Angela will learn to use a web browser and see how labour law protects people in say, Germany or the United States.
A hard working, working class, union supportimg Labour MP...am I dreaming... this is the strong women we need to represent us. Thank you Angela Raynor you reminded me why I support labour and the unions
@@michaelrchthat's like saying it's not a promise to pay you back until they give you the money. I'm not sure you understand what the word "promise" means.
We also need a law to state that all meal breaks and paid breaks alot of companies are getting round the minimum wage by not paying people for there breaks
Starmer (through Tony Blair) has reformed labour to be centre-left rather than far left. He's adopted a slander campaign against the incumbent government, after which he'll create a strategy for how to deliver policy. Politically astute, but not sure it's leadership stuff. We'll soon see when they win i guess. On the otherhand, Angela seems to be too much a one trick pony; the poor me single mum with no job into benefits then upwards into being a politician - i'm not convinced that means she's anyone's hope for running a £3.2tn/p.a. country.
She is saying what Labour supporters have waited to hear. A Labour Leader who will work with the Unions and I bet she would be more than happy to stand on any picket line!
"She is saying what Labour supporters have waited to hear." She came out with a bunch of platitudes. If she'd made any actual policy commitments that would be different but she said literally nothing specific.
I hope your joking she hasn't said one thing about the billions that's being thrown down the drain on migrants they're not going to stop it I remember the last dose of them I ended up out of work because of there open door policies if they close the door and give us back our country instead of giving it to migrants they might get my vote reform is the only way forward for me
IT IS NOT A SOLID COMMITMENT. Here's what a solid commitment is: we pledge to raise worker wages n% during our first term. Something with a tangible goal where you can say whether they did it or not. Anything vaguer than that they are promising nothing and will deliver nothing.
She's brilliant! God, I pray Labour get in next time. Lets have a kinder government that tackles poverty instead of creating more poverty. Im sick and tired of Tory greed and lies. Its madness we've got a PM who is richer than our royalty. What does he know about being an average British person? He doesn't have a clue.
"It's madness that we've got a PM who is richer than our royalty". Is that all? It is an insult that we still have a monarchy living on the income obtained by stealing land, and gold, using violence against the workers. Monarchy is TORY.
I refuse to vote Labour whilst Starmer is a member and JC isn't. Love how he sends out the only working class person in the shadow cabinet to butter up the TUC for more donation money
She is just what we need in this country and I'm hoping that Starmer doesn't water this down. What is just as important it what are they going to do about taxing Non Doms. Big businesses making huge profits here but paying very little tax because they are based elsewhere. Why do we allow off shore betting companies to take peoples money from them but pay no taxes for instance? We need to make it a criminal offence to lie to the public if an MP or a news outlet, with a prison sentence if found guilty. We need the truth as it sets us free.
@@wayneford2481Are you silly? He only got elected into Labour leadership on 10 promises, ALL of which he immediately backpeddled on and kicked out the left-wing.
@stephenobrien5909 ? Well we can start by building a country that people want ro work in. That will attract the brightest to this country and we can the tax them more because they earn more. We can invest in apprenticeships to build a skilled workforce. It generates its own return. Austerity doesn't work.
@@stephenobrien5909The Tories found the money to bung their mates millions and millions in dodgy covid contracts, and bail out the rail companies for every lost pound of profit during strikes. There's shitloads of money around, it's just being syphoned off to line the pockets of Rishi's mates...
Im a newly elected Union rep for Health and Safety. Looking forward to improving conditions going forward. Angela you are an inspirartion to all working class people.
With Berkshire, Munger and Buffett have each accomplished a remarkable feat. They've made a lot of individuals rich by transforming thousands into billions. Reading Berkshire's annual letters helped me realize the market's potential. I recently sold my condo in the Bel Air neighborhood with the intention of investing the proceeds in the stock market. Crossing fingers!
Increased losses for portfolios are anticipated this quarter as a result of market drops, skyrocketing inflation, a large rise in interest rates by the Fed, and rising Treasury yields. Just a good FA will be enough to guide you through the current market volatility.
I've been in touch with a coach for a while now mainly because I lack the depth knowledge and mental fortitude to deal with these recurring market conditions. I made a good amount of earnings during this dip, which made it clear there's more to the market than we average joes know. Having an investment adviser is the best course of action right now, especially for near retirees.
@@Saffron_Weisz I'm going to look him up as well because I want to start with some excellent capital-it might not be much, but it's better than nothing. Considering that the 2008 crash is resurfacing.
Angela Rayner is the type of politician the UK needs to move forward. She is a star! I hope to see and hear her much more in the future. A breath of fresh air ...
She’s so genuine and relatable, brings home how the Tories have been running the Country to benefit the top 1pc and giving the rest of us soundbites and word salads. I’m so fed up of the Tories and ready for a real change.
You mean you like her because she has a regional accent. Everything she says is the same bs other politicians say, she just doesn't have a home counties accent so you think she's different.
The sad thing about this is that I may not live long enough to see it come to fruition. I'm 47. A damning indictment of this current government and the conditions I'm being forced to live in as a WORKING man who just completed a 75 hour working week yet STILL I have no disposable income. Infact, I don't have enough income to get by.
There's not much can be said for the 1997 New Labour, but before they got in I was working in a cinema, raking it in and paying the staff £2.30 an hour. This looks like good news but they better bloody stick to it.
I strongly approve of her proposal to build more council houses. Mr Mandelson will be trying persuade Mr Starmer to drop that on the grounds that it is not aspirational enough just the same as he criticised Angela Rayner as shadow Education Secretary for wanting to introduce universal free meals. That wasn't aspirational enough.
"I strongly approve of her proposal to build more council houses." How many? How is that going to be paid for? In what timeframe? I can't believe people like you just swallow a vague meaningless statement like that. People have been saying similar things for 40 years, it never comes to anything and there is zero reason to think anything is different with Rayner.
@@archvaldor I agree with what you say and if you look elsewhere I have been critical of the Labour leadership. I just did not want to be overwhelmingly negative.
@BluetwoNo, he is Labour alright, a intelligent, clever man. He & Angela work together, do you think that he didn't know before hand what was in her speech?. If so how wrong you are.
Do you not see the double-act they're playing? It's clever. In order to get in power, the Labour party needs to steal voters from the Tories. That's Kier's job. Appear as inoffensive as possible to people who lean a little too right wing to vote for a genuine Labour party. Meanwhile, Angela is allowed a little more freedom to appeal to committed Labour voters.
A ban on zero hours would be a mistake. I work a zero hours contract and it suits me down to the ground. Still, this lot have got to be given a crack of the whip. It can’t possibly be any worse!
A lot of comments on here showing how distrustful people are of Kier Starmer and co... I get it but if you think for a minute - what kind of power must be arrayed against him? The 0.00001% who are desperate to continue the status quo for as long as possible, they'll be cutting his balls off left right and centre. He has to be smart, smarter than we can possibly imagine - he has to think of the long game and play every move right. I too wish he appeared more confident - I wish he was the lion we all want - like Mick Lynch AND I wish they'd supported the pickets BUT... I'm also prepared to watch and wait because I know the reality of his position is tough. He's trying to turn a corrupt ship around but it'll take time AND cunning to beat the establishment. I first came across Kier Starmer in a little documentary called McLibel - it's free on youtube. It's about a postman and a gardener who took on McDonalds and won. Kier Starmer helped them as a young lawyer. He did it for free and stuck with them through the whole process all the way to taking the UK government itself to court because the libel laws in the UK are unjust. So... I have no doubt his heart is in the right place - but the powers that be are just that, powerful, clever and manipulative. I think we should give him a chance... We all want Labour to jump up and start championing the working man but we saw what happened when Corbyn did that - the right wing oligarch owned press immediately jumped on him as a communist etc... I think Kier is playing a waiting game - a smart game. He knows that the rightwing press are ready to jump on his every move. OR... he IS a coward and I'll be the first to shout that out if he disappoints us. All I'm saying is we gotta give him a chance.
Many of us have given Starmer a chance, and unfortunately he's come to show that there's a reason he has a "Sir" tacked onto the front of his name. For me, it's not necessarily his political stances that are concerning, but more about what he's doing behind the scenes, such as cutting out proven good Labour MPs and Councilers, or having one of the worst expenses claims, one that in four short years is currently higher than all four leaders of the party going back to Blair had combined in all their years in office, and rivals the worst Tories have put out. Had the talking points of the party been what Rayner laid out here, Starmer wouldn't be getting any of the stick he is today. Which begs the question, why the sudden change? If his acting like a Cameran Tory to date was all 10D political chess to get the right wing press on side, how is it Rayner came out and set this speech out when the election hasn't even been called? Are the right-wing press just going to ignore this, because let's be real, had this come out in Corbyn's leadership we'd be getting across the board headlines of the country being driven towards Communism for the next month. I mean she stated putting mental health on par with physical, yet only last week the shadow minister for mental health quit over it not being any priority for Starmer. This sudden worker's rights speech also ties in with a number of baffling videos from the New Statesman, a traditionally Tory-lite Neo-Liberal outlet, also calling for "radical" Labour policy to tackle the crisis the country is in. I want to believe what Rayner is saying here is reality -- I genuinely do -- but they've damaged their reputation so badly in the past few years that the cynic in me is saying the party is now in a place where the establishment is happy it won't be a threat in any way and so they are happy to put out the soundbites to grift the working class into voting them into office at the next election.
another Starmer fanboy posted similar nonsense above - Im guessing you and they have been paid to post. Sorry but Starmer has already proven hes untrustworthy and doesnt deserve a chance
@@keithparker1346 maybe... None of what you guys say is wrong... he COULD be just changing tack for the optics, meanwhile will quite happily sell out the working man once he gets in. I'm not an apologist, I'm an optimist. It would be pretty miserable if labour and conservatives were the same as Democrat and Republican - i.e. two sides of the same coin. When Obama got elected everyone felt so hopeful for a moment but in the end he was the same if not worse... a massive sell out. All I'm saying is that until they're in power I'm prepared to see what plays out. We've all heard parties promising the earth before elections - the manifestos that turn out to be empty air and not worth the paper they're printed on... @@kcwliew I couldn't agree more (with your original post). When the vast majority of the media have a vested interest in keeping anything resembling a labour government out, any labour leader needs to be really careful in what they say, knowing full well it will be scrutinised and torn apart to the enth degree.
Yeah... made me sad too. But lions aren't born in a day... maybe Kier is slowly feeling stronger - I can't imagine the powers arrayed against those who want to change the status quo. If you want to know what kind of person Kier is watch the film 'mclibel' he was a young man - he helped a post office worker and gardener take on McDonalds. He did it for free - and they won. Pretty sure that if Rayner and her overall philosophy were at the head of Labour, I could vote for them. Shame Sir Kid Starver's the one calling the shots.
I've been deeply critical of Labour since, well, at least 6 months since Starmer took over. Rayner has done more to sell Labour as a credible government in the last 48 hours than the party as a whole has done in it's entire time since Starmer took over. Let's just hope that this all isn't something that a few negative headlines in the press will result in a media scrum of backtracking two weeks from now with claims that as much as they want to help workers, we have to prioritise getting inflation down. Or worse, what with seeing the likes of the New Statesman all of a sudden calling for a radical Labour agenda, that this isn't all a cynical ploy to get working votes onside now that the establishment is confident Labour is fully prepared to take over and continue the Tory agenda in their name.
It's vague words. You are aware that all the stuff has been in Labours website for months? Meaningless without any action behind it. I suspect she has been told to butter the unions up. It's unlikely any if this will happen

@wendywolfman Really??? For example? Can't see how. Zero hours is not the worker deciding to take time off without much notice, which is just having a flexible boss.
