I Hate GB news and its ethos … however … I agree on this point … where I live - North London … they are spending millions buying back council houses for Afghans and Ukrainians - Ukrainians maybe of whims go home at Christmas to visit their families - people born and lived in this particular area for all of their lives - in need completely shunned by the local authority …. It’s an absolute scandal. The only thing I agree with the right wing on - as many other European countries so - social housing to be for British citizens only … refugees and others not yet British can rent privately and get topped up by benefits if they cannot afford it. I heard about poles who have returned home because of brexit - who have sold on their council tenancies for a large cash payment .. rather than give up the home for a person in genuine need. Not all but generally most immigrants have no loyalty towards the uk… if there was a war or we can use brexit as an example … they are off…

I recently saw my neighbour proudly wearing a T-shirt with the logo " I still hate Thatcher", I reminded him that in the 80s Margaret Thatcher allowed him to buy his council house for less than the price of a family car, I never saw him wearing that T- shirt again

Not only did she force their sale below replacement cost she stopped local authorities from replacing them. And made thousands of villages derelict. She is the cause of many of Britain’s troubles. When Thatcher brought this rule in the UK had an Industry where people could go to a job earn a living and pay their way. All our industry was sent abroad and many jobs vanished in the space of a few years.

Trevor the problem when Mrs Thatcher let people buy their council house was that she stopped councils from building a new social house for every one sold. She thought council house renters would be more likely to vote Labour. The majority of ex council houses are now owned by private landlords...
