Recently there has been a lot of talk about why (and how it affects her popularity) a large part of Angelina's fan base seems to be us "older men". I am not sure that in fact we older men make up that much of a majority of her fan base; I think there may be almost as many older women in her fan base. I believe her choice of songs is the reason as much as her vocal ability and her ability to know how a song should be sung. I know that I and many of my "old" friends, both male and female, miss what life was like, and miss the music that was popular back in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Her singing brings back memories of our youth. I know for me most music starting around the 70s just has not been as good, and the majority of the singers for sure have not been as good! Yes, there have been a (very) few artists that preformed to entertain you with their voice and the words instead of with their costumes, their weird make-up, and/or their "gymnastics", but most have lacked a voice, technique, and/ or talent needed to perform without mechanical aids. Angelina brings back all our great memories of your youth. It was a time when you could understand the words, feel the meaning of the words, and listen to the performance without the fear of loosing your hearing from the loud noise. Even with her covers of present day artists and her own songs, she manages to perform them in a way that is reminiscent of the period when we were young. Can she reach her stated goal of superstardom (I think in many ways she already has) without changing her style to a more "modern" sound? That is the big question! But I hope and believe she can!

I think that she just knows what songs are right for her. And, more lately, she plays around with ones a little out of her comfort zone, as she should as a rising star. Here, at ten years old, she kills it. She has a huge bag of vocal tricks, from her careful observation and study of all the greatest jazz singers from a very young age. The only training she had was music theory in an after-school program when she was about 5-7 years old. No vocal coach in Norway would attempt to teach Angie for fear of her losing her magic. That is just one reason the family, including her uncle/manager, moved to Los Angeles when Angelina was 12. Her mother is very supportive, but not a musician, nor anyone else in her family. Her greatest fan, however, is her grandmother who introduced Angelina to jazz through her extensive jazz collection of records. Her grandmother, Meri Zamani, is a well-known Iranian artist, known as Mosarz, who was a child prodigy as well, producing world-class paintings at age 9. She has had a hand in the visual parts of Angelina's videos, such as this one. It is interesting to note that Angelina's grandparents' origins are Swedish, Iranian and Japanese. Her mother and uncle were born in Norway, her father in Sweden. AJ at 10yo in St James Park in London..... music class after school, she listened to jazz from being born, and she sings at home all the time. She picks her music and how she sings it, her family are not very musiclal her Grand Mother is a famous Artist and Poet called Mery Zamani, she is AJs mentor and inspiration . AJ has said " There would be no Angelina Jordan without Billie Holiday". Her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar, born in Oslo Norway in 2006. she is half Swedish, quarter Persian ,and quarter Japanese. They moved to LA in 2016 as her school couldn't teach her any more. Her parents wont let her career expand until she has finished school. But i think the dam is ieaking lol.

Greetings Bob from Michigan! Love your reactions of Angelina and her unparalleled vocals. You're real and honest and about my age and I Love that! If you don't mind watching just one more reviewer, try finding Valerie White (aka Vocal Splendor Studios.) She came on the scene about the same time I found my way down the rabbit hole, about 2-3 years ago. She is a voice teacher but never seems to get overly technical and explains the way Angelina uses her tone and seems to enjoy when She goes into her jazzy roots (starting at age 6...for cripes sake!). Trust me when i say you'll really enjoy her emotional and fascinating take on ALL Angelina's selections. And no, I'm not related to Valarie...although she'd be welcomed if ever she becomes an orphan. I love her takes. Bob, one beautiful song you might want to review is her cover of 'Young & Beautiful." For this one is a challenge to all her fans to hear any vocal fry or that jazzy sound you hear on most all of her other covers or originals. Good Luck Bob, and keep up your unique reactions to all your choice selections.

Hey Russ. Thanks for all that. Sure, I'll be more than glad to check her out. I don't have an ego when it comes to this stuff, it's just fun. I'll find a song that I've already reacted to and check it out on her side. I've pretty much avoided looking at reaction videos since I've started this, only because I don't want to get influenced in any way. Personally, I don't like when reactors get overly technical, although there are many viewers who love that stuff. I would rather just get someone's opinion and maybe point out a few interesting vocal points. That's just me though. There are many reactors out there, so there's a lot to choose from that fits a persons interests. Love Michigan by the way. My wife is from the Detroit area. Kinda hate the Redwings though. LOL

She is a natural but her grandma has been helpful introducing old school music to her in her early years, yes her grandma has been her mentor all the way, But Angelina chooses the songs herself. A lot has been said about her musical genius, and what is amazing is that she has not yet reached her top level. A little bit scary too!

Bob, hi, Angelina is practicing singing 6 days a week for 6 hours daily. Doing it since age 4. She taught herself singing, BUT at the academies in Oslo and LA, she learned the breathing technic and a lot of other stuff, like disecting a song first, understanding how it works, and THEN put it together again (rearranging) to her liking. She is so good now, she can do it in seconds. You friend stay safe and healthy as usual. German Greetings

Totslly sgree! I think most of what ANGELina choose to sing, is her own choice. For me this song is a "grower"., it becomes more and more beautiful after each listen. And even at this time, after following ANGELina since age 7, I still get baffled that his sound is coming from a 10y.o.🤯 ANGELina started singing Whitney Huston and Jazz from age 1.5. There's a short clip of her on YT where she's belting out "I will always love you" with a mic half her size. She got influenzed by her Grandma. But as soon as she could go on YT she started researching and listening to old Jazz classics. She went to a record store in OSLO to listen to old classics. I think she attended musical kindergarden. In Norway we have, specially in the big cities, Steiner Schools, and ANGELina attended one of those. There she was able to be creative. We also have after school music programs, which she followed, and I think have much of the credif of her making own arrangements and playing different instruments. And also ofc, her parents have brought her along on travels around the world, and allowing her to follow her dream and impulses (under supervision ofc). She asked her mother at age 3, after watching on of Simon Cowells talent shows; "I want to sing for him, can I, plz?" Her mother. ofc, smiled and told her she was too young. At age 7, she convinced her parents to audition for Norway's got Talent, and won right after turning 8. Exactly 10 yrs after she uttered her wish to her mom, she got a phonecall from AGT Champions. Rest is History. How lucky are we to follow this herstory of raw talent, a prodigy and Gem of an Artist on her journey?🤔🥰 Thnx for reacting to ANGELina, and GRTZ on your book! #ANGELina

What I red so far she taught herself to sing, the first years. The way she can absorb a singers voice and find ways to reproduce them with her own vocal chords are insane. Later on she went to a special school, where she could develop her musical skills, probably some vocal training too. But from the beginning her breath control and her vibrato('s) are really hers. It will make her recognizable forever! The song is actually French and the karaoke sounds French to me too! Italy and France use a lot of the accordion, (like many other countries). It's very typical for the French "chanson", like Autumn leaves actually is. Next too the original by Yves Montand and the cover of Eva Cassidy (hauntingly beautiful!), this is one of the best I ever heard! I hope she record it once more now that her voice is even more developed and refined! But even at this young age it's fantastic how Angelina "fights" herself thru the difficult voice demands, and succeeds. Complete with emotional connection! Very moving to hear!

I think Angelina has not only a great voice, but has a wonderfully good ear for what will sound good. Good singers are everywhere, but not all singers have a good ear for what will sound good for themselves. I will bet that Angelina has listened to as many different songs in her 16 years as I have in my 70th year, yet she knows what is best for her.

Agree with everything you said. For her song choices I see another possibility: Angelina will make any song sound good, I've always loved "Les feuilles mortes" either in French or English and had compiled a whole CD with versions of that song I found interesting (that was around the time when Angelina was born, so her version is not on it..) but she sung others which I never liked in the original, for me esp. Adele's songs and turned them into masterpieces, but if you had asked me before listening if this is a good choice for her I would have doubted it (well, not really, because I know her by now...). I think she can't make a bad choice because she makes everything her own, she sucks it in, and spits it out again as something genuinely Angelina which is beautiful in itself... I see many surprises coming...

Bob, it really is a special thing that Angelina does with these old standards. As a child of the classic rock era I admit to never even hearing some of these before and was never a fan, but I sure am now. The Angelina magic dust is sprinkled over them and I just can't get enough. To bring new listeners to this music is a testament to her talents, and I can only imagine the emotions she stirs in life-long jazz fans. I hope that once established with Republic they will be on board with an Angelina jazz album, and I'll be first in line to buy it. Have a great day!

Hi Bob, yes, listening to Angelina we are taken on a journey. Her skill in terms of expression is just off the scale. Here she is in London (yes it was an English squirrel) singing what was originally a French song - so correct in feeling the need for a glass of wine and crusty bread! Angelina's grandma, Mery Zamani, introduced Angelina to jazz from an early age. I think Nat King Cole was someone she would have heard around the house, so for one of your Christmas songs in July that is a must The Christmas Song. Angelina started to find her own choice of music on the internet, along with CDs from a local music shop in Oslo. She discovered Billie Holiday, Shirley Bassey, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and others. Of course she also discovered Adele - perhaps more to do with the story based songs rather than the genre... Angelina jamming with the guitarist (on the piano) "The Christmas Song" before a concert, December 2017, background noise of chairs being put out in the church hall... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4u96uQQTDno.html

Bob, yes and no. She does sing because of her love for music but there is no doubt she is singing FOR YOU and FOR EVERYONE. Music is her conduit to our hearts and when we feel her love touch us through song the experience is something we have never felt before and it makes us wonder how special is this wonderful young person and why do we feel the way we do about her. Although the complexity of what's going on is very evident, simply put Angelina is very special and she is in our hearts.

Thanks a lot for a beautiful reaction to ten year old Angelina. I just had to throw her age out there😅 And I can assure you,Bob, that you are not the only one who feels that you are taken to a special place when you listen to her. A tranquil and very beautiful place. As far as I know Angelina has never received any vocal training per say. She did go to a private music school for some time but they understood rather quickly that they should not intervene too much with her and so they let her do Angelina. She has listened to a lot of jazz from a very early age, and her musical genius allowed her to soak a lot of different styles up and adapt to it, without ever copying it. When you listen to Angelina sing you can hear influences from a lot of different musical artists. Angelina turned 16 on January 10th. If you'd ask me about this arrangement I'd say it sounds French😉 And congratulations on your book! That's awesome 👍👍 I'm still at work so I had to make this short😅 Take care, my friend👍🔥❤️🇧🇻🇺🇸🇮🇪

I am glad that you picked this song for your reaction. This is one of my favorite covers of Angelina. She keeps it pretty close to the original version, a French Chanson, originally sung by the French actor and singer Yves Montand (in French) in the movie "Les Portes de la Nuit" back in 1946 (see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4bABRXwuuXo.html). There is also another wonderful interpretation of this song and totally different from Angelina's version, which belongs to Eva Cassidy (my absolute favorite song from her, see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xXBNlApwh0c.html).

She’s listened to these classic songs all her life and so gravitates toward them, I would assume. She sounds like she might have a bit of a cold in this one. Her grandmother usually videos for her and probably directs them as well, using her painter’s eye. Her grade school had Performing Arts classes after school in which she participated, maybe until they moved to the US. An example of this is her first time in a recording studio at age six. First of all I which you good luck with your book, that you for sure can be proud of, and sell your 25 copies quickly! Then, your 3rd assumption is correct, she of those rare musical prodigies who instinctively know how a song needs to be sung. She feels music, she IS music. We cannot fathom it, we just have to accept it. Her grandma plays a huge role in her early development and love for the old jazz classics. She loved to watch RU-vid and learn from there. You can see how special she is in a short clip at the age of 1,5 years when she sings Whitney Houston. She wouldn´t have produced 100+ unique covers, many of them produced in a quick one take session, if someone would have told her what to do or how to do it. Ah, and the video was taken in a London park afaik. Last but not least, a great Christmas song of hers would be "Mary´s Boy Child", though there is no video to it (NRK Radio broadcast). Then she did several Christmas concerts in Norway, so there are more songs to choose from. Have a great day!

I have to be honest. I'm somewhat jealous of all of you in Norway. I'm sure you have much more access to these concerts than I do here in the States. I really need to work my way over there some day...especially since it looks AMAZINGLY beautiful there!!!!

Since you mentioned her song choice - I believe that she (started) is guided by songs she listened to in the family, especially her grandmother. Here is one strange song she chose to sing and most probably because she listened it with her grandfather Her maternal grandfather is Japanese. As I understand Angelina's mother and uncle grew up in Japan. (people claim that Angelina speaks a little Japanese). There is a video of her singing a song in Japanese (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dT0L8ISgE8Q.html) at a concert in Japan. When I taught instrumental music, I had maybe 2 or 3 students I would consider to have been prodigies. I didn't really need to teach them techniques as much as just suggesting things to them. They could take it or leave it. As talented as those students were, Angelina is light years ahead of them when it comes to raw musical talent. It has been said that she has had vocal training throughout her school years, especially the early ones. That makes sense. I wonder if Republic Records has people who work with her, not to teach, but to make suggestions that she does or doesn't use.

What Angelina has done with this song is pure genius from a 10 year old. The different textures in her voice for this song is unrivaled by many of the greats that have sung it. It's very informative and gives a brief glimpse into her life and how she is self taught and also her first recording at 1 and a half years old singing I Will Always Love You. May I suggest Jackie Evancho who is now a 22-year old American classical crossover singer. Before I give some Christmas song suggestions in another comment, this comment will be a brief bio of Jackie and provide an overview of her 3 Christmas albums. In 2010, as a 10-year old, Jackie came to fame when she came in second on America's Got Talent. At 11-years old, she was the youngest solo singer to ever have a concert at Lincoln Center (held at the Avery Fisher Hall). She is the youngest solo artist to ever go Platinum on an album in the US at 10-years old and the youngest to ever debut in the top 10 in the Billboard 200 (twice Jackie was #2 with the artist who just beat her the second time being Eminem). At 9-years old Jackie self-released the album Prelude To A Dream that peaked at #2 on the Billboard Classical Charts. The next 7 studio albums all peaked at #1 on the Billboard Classical Charts meaning that only Jay-Z, Eminem, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones have had more consecutive Billboard #1 albums in a row. In 2011, when Jackie was 11-years old, Billboard ranked her as the #1 Classical Albums Artist of the year. In addition to the 8 studio albums, Jackie has 3 live albums, 13 music videos, 1 EP, and 35 singles. She has had 3 solo PBS concert specials (her first in 2011, Dream With Me In Concert, was the most broadcast program of the year for PBS and raised record amounts of money for PBS stations). When 11-years old, Jackie was chosen by Robert Redford to play his daughter in his film The Company You Keep. Jackie has sung (and in some cases recorded) with many famous singers including Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Sumi Jo, José Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Tony Bennett and ‎Sarah Brightman. Sixteen-time Grammy winner David Foster has produced several things for her. She was Kity on season 3 of The Masked Singer, placing fifth. She has been on way too many to note TV shows. Jackie has signed record deals with SYCO Music, Columbia Records, Sony, Sony Masterworks, Portrait and now Melody Place. She also has her own label, JE Touring. And on, and on, and on. ------ Jackie's first studio album was O Holy Night, a Christmas EP album recorded and released when she was 10 years old. It went platinum making Jackie the youngest solo singer to ever do that in the US. It consists of a CD and a DVD. -- "Silent Night", "Panis Angelicus", "O Holy Night" and "Pie Jesu" are on the CD -- "Panis Angelicus", "O Mio Babbino Caro", "Time to Say Goodbye", "Pie Jesu" and "Ave Maria" are on the DVD ------ Jackie's third studio album was Heavenly Christmas, a Christmas full album recorded and released when she was 11 years old. -- "I'll Be Home for Christmas", "The First Noel", "Away in a Manger", "Believe", "White Christmas", "What Child Is This", "O Come All Ye Faithful", "O Little Town of Bethlehem", "Walking in the Air" and "Ding Dong Merrily on High" are on the CD ------ Jackie's sixth studio album was Someday at Christmas, recorded and released when she was 16-years old. -- "Someday at Christmas", "Do You Hear What I Hear", "Guardian Angels" (with Plácido Domingo), "Little Drummer Boy", "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", "Pie Jesu" (with Plácido Domingo; from Requiem), "Christmas Waltz", "Hallelujah" (with Peter Hollens), "The Christmas Song", "O Holy Night" (featuring Vittorio Grigolo), "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (from Meet Me in St. Louis) and "Little Drummer Boy" (featuring Il Volo)

The list of potential Christmas song performances is immense. We could go on and on and on and on. Hello Bob, the song is not from Italy. It comes from France. It was written as "Les Feuilles Mortes" by Jacques Prévert and sung by Yves Montand. WIKI: "Autumn Leaves is the English title of the chanson Les Feuilles mortes, translated from French by Johnny Mercer, composed in 1945 by Joseph Kosma to an existing poem by Jacques Prévert (1900-1977). It was first created to be performed by Yves Montand in Marcel Carné's film Les Portes de la nuit, 1946, but developed a life of its own as a chanson.[1] It later became a number one hit in the English version and a jazz standard." Jacques Prévert - Les Feuilles Mortes (performed by Yves Montand) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8KzI4BEIwtc.html The song sounds very different. I only recognize it after 1:13 minutes. Only at this point does the song that we know begin. The introduction was probably later simply omitted. Angelina turned 16 in January. I was told that Angelina shot the video in London in autumn 2018. But it was released in September 2019. I hope the information is correct. But based on Angelina's looks, that's true. Welcome to my world (Elvis Presley) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r_rmm9tqsMw.html was released at the same time and she looks older. Did I understand that correctly, you are looking for Christmas carols?
