"You can hear the pain". In my 68 years I have never heard ANYONE that sings with so much emotion. Here at just shy of 11 years old, we can be almost certain that she has never experienced this type of heartache, yet she sings it as though she lived through it. EVERY song she sings gives me that feeling.
I feel its even a lot more emotion when she backs it with her own pain, e.g. the two songs she did after the death of her two grandpas. Up to a level where I feel, no it hurts to revisit this song. I hope she'll never be experiencing the dark hopeless feeling an Amy Winheouse probably felt, the resulting material could be quite literately deadly for some.

Or watch her more recently completely reinterpret Bohemian Rhapsody or her just released cover of Elvis’s Suspicious Minds. Angelina is absolutely mesmerizing on those. Angelina is easily the best singer I’ve ever heard. If you listen to a few more, you’ll realize how different she is from any other singer.
To be fair, Angelina recorded this one week before her 11th birthday but still it is a vocal masterpiece. I think it could have been a huge hit. My THEORY is that her family didn't want her to have a big hit at age 11 and all the publicity that would have come with it. We are in debt to her loving, wise family for slow walking her career. She signed with Republic Records (Taylor Swift, Beyonce, etc) at age 14 but her family requested she be allowed as normal a childhood as possible. Angelina will turn 17 on January 10, 2023.
It doesn't matter to me why this song was never released. All I know is that it is one of those songs that could've been a big hit. 2016 was a benchmark year for Angelina; all of her songs at 10 are wonderful. I think 2022 is another benchmark year for her. Starting with her Adele cover "Easy on Me" last fall, and this year's "My Funny Valentine," Elvis cover "Suspicious Minds," and Whitney Houston cover "I Have Nothing," you can hear the dramatic change in her vocals. I can't imagine how good she will be in the future.
I love how you say, “Drastic Improvement”. Not to say that she didn’t improve between ages 9 and 10 but her take on, “I put a spell on you“ was just incredibly as, “ i’m still holding out for you“ They were two different genres song to completely different ways. I just don’t think you knew what you were listening to. She had just as much control then as she does at age 10. The amount of chops it takes to sing, “ I put a spell on you” in the way that she sang it is unreal. You really need to go back and watch the original artist, “Screaming Jay Hawkins” to see what her inspiration was so you can see why she sang it in the style that she did. To do that age age 9 is insane. If you just simply don’t like this song then that’s one thing but to say that she drastically improved from one song to another as an insult to the first song. Again, I just don’t think you know what or who you are listening to. She is a generational talent not some run of the mill kid singer.
Absolutely correct on all counts. IPASOY deserves ultimate respect. But before I found AJ i couldn’t understand the music even for what James Brown brought to mankind. She’s a genius and so respectful of the greats that came before her. Our world is a better place with artist like Angelina. She is music.
Yes! There are genres of jazz I didn't understand until I heard Angelina sing them, then it all made sense. She brings music to life like no other singer I've ever heard in my 73 years on the planet (maybe excepting The Beatles - of course!)

This was a demo done for singer songwriter Brandon Lowrey (aka Baby Fuzz) Brandon released a version of this song in the style of Angelina's version so I would imagine he modeled his release after her arrangement. Unfortunately his version didn't get nearly the views that Angelina's did. The remarkable thing is she does all of her own arrangements. You will notice this as you start to follow some of her works. Check out her recent release of Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds. It is a totally reimagined song with Angelina's arrangement. This artist has talent way beyond her years.
This is not entirely accurate according to Baby Fuzz himself…. : - Baby Fuzz wrote this song with the help of others during a master class camp on song writing - Those others worked with Angelina on her original Shield - Baby Fuzz decided he wanted to sell the song so that someone else would use to release a song - For that purpose he made a demo - That demo was distributed but it didn’t lead to a sale - Baby Fuzz decided to release it himself anyway - Baby Fuzz stated he never had contact with Angelina’s team nor did he hear her version before making his released version. Here comes the speculation part: - the people Angelina worked on Shield with, brought the demo Baby Fuzz made with them to Angelina - Angelina gave it a spin, this leaked recording, and she decided not pursue it any further - Angelina’s version was leaked and with added video was published on RU-vid For the timelines, Angelina’s cover was leaked a little over a month before Baby Fuzz released his original. That is of course curious that the cover was released before the original, but the above makes clear how that happened. This comes from two sources: one being a comment he made to the lyrics of the song and the other from an article.

Even though it is said she makes her own arrangements, I don’t think that’s always true. Especially when working with a producer. And it’s said that 2 of the songwriters produced this version. And it would make sense that she had B Fuzz’s original demo to guide her on the phrasing of the lyrics. After she got the phrasing down she clearly owned the song like a boss
She was 9 years, 2 months when she recorded I Put a Spell on You, & this demo was recorded 1 week before her 11th Birthday, so almost 2 years of vocal maturation between songs. Angelina is self-taught & has never had a voice coach at least until 14, when she signed with Republic Records. Professionals are working with her at her record label, but I don't think she has a vocal coach even now. She has gotten better every year since she was 6 &, at almost 17, she shows no sign of slowing down. Female vocal chords don't fully mature until their late 20's, so 10 more years of improvement for Angelina! That boggles my mind!!!
I vagueley remember Sarah saying after NGT they got her some guidance but with extra care not to damage her special ability to emote. Propably to give some advice to protect her voice. As some voice coaches noted, there are things you can do that might damage your voice. E.g. I understand the front man of Rammstein damaged his voice on tour beeing too reckless with high notes.

It is not true that she never had vocal training. In the edition of ‘A Magisinet’ of the 22nd december 2017, she is on a picture with her vocal teacher. It says this: ‘Angelina Jordan tar vokaltimer, men ikke for å skolere stemmen i særlig grad. teamet rundt henne frykter at særpregregret i stemmen skal bli borte. her øver angelina med læreren linn larsen, og glamouren er langt unna.’ Which according to Google Translates means this: ‘Angelina Jordan takes vocal lessons, but not to train her voice to any great extent. the team around her fears that the distinctive character in her voice will be lost. here Angelina practices with the teacher Linn Larsen, and the glamor is far away.’ Additionally a vocal teacher can be seen on older video’s who also came to her concerts. With regard to her black and white version of I Put A Spell On You, it is said that her vocal teachers advised against using her voice like that. Here comes my conjecture, I would imagine that the vocal teachers do one or two things: coaching her on healthy singing techniques to prevent her from damaging her voice. Something that apparently Adele suffered a lot from. I say apparently, since I did not research it in great detail. Angelina’s family seems very level headed, and it makes sense to me that they would ensure that she wouldn’t damage her voice. The second thing might be helping reach specific goals. I have the impression from her latests concerts that her upper range has increased and she did quite a bit of beautiful high pitched singing. Again the exact the purpose of the vocal training is conjecture. It is not conjecture however that she did have vocal coaching 🙂
This young lady is a vocal chameleon. Angelina Jordan ASTAR (the name says it all), I am 69 y old and have never heard a singer like her in my whole life. She is on another level.
You’ve barely scratched the surface on this young woman. I view the “I Put a Spell On You” video as moment she just let go and let it all out. She started to really explore her vocal abilities. It is so stunning that many people hearing her don’t believe it’s real. Watching her Norway’s Got Talent videos at age 7/8, even I, who has no talent but have always appreciated music, recognized her brilliance. She puts her soul into singing and is able to draw out my emotions every time I hear her. Listen to her with the realization that she sings for the love of music while paying homage to original artists and not for the fame or fortune. Angelina has been spiritually rich since she was a young child. Earthly fame and fortune are right around the corner. She’s still 16. There is no rush!

When it comes to the actual training and choice of songs etc., it has always been Angelina who made all the choices and decisions. Parents and others, on the other hand, have asked her to take it a little easier sometimes. Angelina is very special and her own driving force. Ever since she was 3-4 years old! Of course, all relatives and frends, have helped and protected her. Angelina and her closest, decided early on that she would have as normal a childhood as possible. Even when she won NGT, 8 years old, many wanted to sign a contract. Everyone was dismissed! Even Disney. And this Norwegian girl sings in English! Do you know that she speaks several languages. 10 was a breakout year for her and her voice. Everything she released was astonishingly good and cemented the age shock in every song. Her rooftop appearance and version of Everytime We Say Goodbye stands right next to Ella Fitzgerald’s version easily. And Ella was widely regarded as the best in the American Song Book and set the standard of the standards of her century. So when a ten year old delivers something i thought we lost, its quite exciting to consider we maybe able to enjoy that live one day. She’s a bit of a time jumper and we get to visit a bygone era via her amazing voice.
It is absolutely wonderful the way she brings real music back to us! Ella has always been my favourite singer, and Angelina gives me so much joy. One day I hope to hear Angelina really scatting, as Ella did with Louis!!
Excellent reaction to a self taught vocalist, when entered into Music School at age 4, they only taught her to protect her voice and theory. She was technically already ahead of her instructors and her Family knew her voice was special and didn't want them messing it up. She is getting some guidance now, but these are people who are talented and knowledgeable in their craft, God Bless!
As you listen to her covers you will find nobody can emit the emotion and soul of a song like Angelina.I think she reads the lyrics first before listening to the song. In this way she can understand the feeling and emotion the artist wants to convey. Then she arranges it to be able to dramatically convey the feeling and emotion to us. She takes iconic songs and makes them Angelina songs. Her vocals, tones and smokiness do the rest. She is already The Greatest of All Time! Just amazing!!
At age 10 Angelina gets it all together and from then on she's a professional. Close your eyes and you wouldn't know it was a child. Maybe that's because she's channelling old souls, who knows . . . Why this was "leaked" is a long story, so I'll let the others tell you about that.
There is zero question the I put a spell on you was a solid and noticeable amount more impressive. A year and a half plus between them. I appreciate the fact you aren't taking age into consideration much, in that case I'd still put I put a spell on you closer to this one than you did. This leaked years ago, but that is not important. Very cool and unique performance for her, much like the last, a common theme for this ridiculously versatile kid. The biggest changes to me are in phrasing and techniques at that time. She unlocked a couple more techniques that sounded mature enough to use, and her linguistic skills improved dramatically. Love her phrasing around nine years old, but I think some of it was 'accidental' gold while struggling through things that are way to technically difficult for someone that young. But you will find she navigates her growth and changes better than anyone ever should, always pushing, always adapting, always unique and artistic. Which must mean she is always singing, always loving it, always creating and exploring within it.
I don't think you're hearing a drastic improvement as much as a different style. You'll realise for yourself as you listen to more of her early performances that Angelina had plenty of control over her voice way before this. What you'll sometimes hear is her attempting techniques that turn out to be beyond her anatomy but I always applaud the fact she even went there rather than take the easy option. Even when her control was sometimes off, it was always as a result of introducing complexity to something she could easily have sung straight. Her child-like naivety led her to believe she could incorporate every style she ever admired and a few of her own into her singing. Practice and persistence has proved her correct but a tutor would have coached that out of her long ago.
Great, thanks! Her original songs are "Oslo", "What is Life?", "Shield", "Million Miles" an "7th Heaven" - all before she turned 16. They're all great, so pick any one or all 5.
Angelina is a 10 (at 8, or10, or 16yo)! If not, find someone who can do it better. And not just one song..but how about 150+ mostly big, iconic songs (this one a rare exception), across the last nearly 100 years. go ahead, nominations are open! You'll come around before long!

It was a demo for baby fuzz he wanted her name to get music execs to listen to the song. She never had permission for release. Someone in the studio released it. We always believed that it was known if it was released she would break out internationally. Her parents did not want that. They wanted her to have as normal childhood as possible. No voice coach but alot of international performance experience. Angelinas parents turned down so many offers from record companies Disney, Simon Cowel to name a few. They eventually signed with Republic Records at 14 on the understanding they wait till 16 and grant her unprecidented artistic freedom for such a young artist. She is working on an album now. Her parents are the opposite of your stage mum. The driving force has always been Angelina. They allowed specifically chosen performance venues to satisfy her. Often to raise money for charity. She performed at the Nobel Peace Prize for instance. For her King often in smaller jazz venues Though she has also performed in many other large venues eg. opening for Nora Jones, sing for Alan Walker and at Quincy Jones 80th birthday concert, certain TV shows etc. She sung on an episode of LILLYHAMMER as a girl in the night club. It's how I first found her. Then I found she won NORWAYS GOT TALENT entered at 7 was 8 by the final. Notable songs in that BANG BANG SUMMERTIME and the audition GLOOMY SUNDAY age 7 (known as the suicide song, her choice). During an interview one of the judges said they thought she might be too young till she politely corrected her accompanist explaining how and when she wanted him to come in. She has been responsible for her arrangements since. She has to agree. That's why musicians called her the boss from an early age. In private she was always shy coming alive when singing.

My understanding as to why it wasn't released much earlier is that her Mom did not like the reference to suicide at the end of the song especially while Angelina was so young. No got ahold of Angelina to teach her. You are hearing her improving herself. Practicing six hours per day six day per week. As I stated before, you need to dig deep. You will be amazed at what you find. You are trying to compare her to what you are familiar with. In reality this would be an exercise in futility.
Written by Baby Fuzz and some others for a class. Forwarded to several singers with a request to make a demo which AJ did. AJ's version was leaked before Baby Fuzz released his version. Rumor is that AJ's family took issue with the lyrics, but little is really known. AJ was 10 when she did this. She is largely self-taught, her family evidently does not want anyone messing with her own sense of music.

Angelina has a dramatic change in her vocals from song to song, let alone a year age change. She also seems to progress a normal person’s year of development every few months.
To do something this at any age would be amazing, but to do it at 10 is beyond unbelievable. For reasons we aren't sure about, it was never released and many believe it had to do with lyrics that were about a drowning suicide that her mom wasn't comfortable with. Had it been released, many Angelina fans believe it would have rocketed up the charts for sure. It's truly like nothing she has ever done at any other time in her career.

Nice reaction. From what I understand Angelina is self taught in singing but she started musical theory classes at 5 or 6 years old so she can learn to take apart a song and reconstruct it.

I notice you compare this with the first reaction you did of her and mention the increased maturity in her voice, but that is not the whole story, "I put a spell on you" was sung in an entirely different way because Angelina based her version of that of the original by Screaamin' Jay Hawkins. If you continue your journey of discovery, and I hope you do, you will come to realise that Angelina tailors her voice for the requirements of the song. She has the innate ability to read and understand the emotions within the lyrics and project those emotions in her singing. Her musicality is beyond any other singer I have listened to over the past 86 years.

Perhaps the song is not age appropriate is one explanation. Another is there might be an issue of receiving the rights to record it again. In any event, if she gets the authority and chooses to sing it again (when she is 100% committed to her career) I can see this song becoming an international top of the charts single, it is that good.
It would make a great addition to her new album. She needs something "BIG" to grow a younger audience like Grace Vanderwall who has over 3 million subs v/s 770 K for Angelina.

Yes, it's a very serious song, but she was too young to release it and there were other complications. Perhaps we will see it released one day, or at least aired more widely when her fan base grows, I hope so.
Again, you are soo wrong about this girl. This song is probably more to your taste, and understanding, so you like it better even though you claimed beeing into jazz. No coach got hold of her, and she does nor mimmic other singers as you stated in your first reaction. She always sing/arrange a song the way she feels it should be performed, and has a unique ability to adapt her voice to it.
The original story I heard was this song was briefly released on one of her official sites. But Mom felt the last few lines suggested suicide and was not appropriate. They immediately took the song down, asked all fan sites to remove it and AJ vowed to never perform it again. Whoever saved it, I feel, did the world a favor.
Sir, had they released this record, Miss Angelina´s childhood would have been destroyed. So they invented the argument about the suicide side note in the song.

Oddly, several people vape while recording reaction videos. All I can think when I see that each time is, ‘how useful is this person’s reaction, if they are numbing their brain when providing their reaction?’ Might not be the case, but is a huge distraction.
Maybe you should do a little research into the background of one so accomplished as Angelina Jordan, so as not to make yourself sound so foolish when speaking of her vocal accomplishments. A little education never hurt anyone.
