If you noticed in the beginning she held a cup with a fifties type character. That was screaming Jay Hawkins the man who first did the song. It was to him she paid homage. If you noticed also there are times she wears flowers in her hair that is in tribute to Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday and Amy Winehouse. When she did bohemian rhapsody she wore an outfit Freddy Mercury would have worn.

Thank you for your insightful reaction to this Angelina Jordan performance. It is obvious that you are someone who appreciates the technical and artistic aspects of vocal music. After 40+ years as a music educator and jazz musician, I would say to all young singers: Don’t try to sing like Angelina until you know how to do it. Take voice lessons and learn everything you can about vocal technique and artistic styling. If you try to do what she does before you know what you are doing, you could severely damage your voice and may never be able to sing again. Angelina has a gift that very, very few people in history have ever had. All of her physical vocal abilities and sense of musical style came with her at birth and because her family played music all the time as she was growing up. She is a force of nature. You can aspire to sing like her, but don’t push it. We would like to see and hear you on RU-vid someday!

This is what people do not get. Her writing on paper at the start is directions for the band - because she wanted to take the song back to its composer Screaming JH original in her interpretation. This is what happens when a kid grows up with youtube watching classic jazz-performances - and youtube keeps suggesting her more of the same.

Angelina wrote some of the arrangement for this song....that is why she is holding the pen and gave what she had written to the arranger (yes...even at 9 years old). You will find that she re-writes song lyrics to make them age appropriate for herself (Amy Winehouse songs for example).

Drew! You are fabulous! I LOVED your reaction! You remind me of how i felt the first time I heard her sing this! I am so happy to have you join us on this fabulous journey we are on with Angelina. She is phenomenal and you totally got her! You have so many unbelievable videos of hers to enjoy coming up (I think there are 130 some or more!) I'm sure you'll get tons of recommendations for songs. I'll give you a couple also 😊 .. GLOOMY SUNDAY is a fabulous one, which was Angelina's very first audition for Norway's Got Talent. She will blow your mind! She is 7 years old and doing a Billie Holiday song! She herself picks her music and changes them always to be her own. She's amazing! I also love her FEELING GOOD when she was 10. She did another version of that but the one at 10 years old is the one to see. She never disappoints, though, so you'd do well no matter how you choose your next Angelina song. Have fun .. Angelina is a prodigy… a musical genius; a legend. Her voice is both beautiful and powerful… I have to listen to her at least once a day. As far as this performance of this song goes.. I think it is the greatest version ever recorded; and yes, she was only nine at the time. I am so glad I live in the same era as Angelina. Her voice should be on the next golden record sent to space in the even of our extinction. I loved your reaction… it was exactly how I reacted the first time I heard her. 😱

What a great reaction to this wonderful gift God has given the world. I’m not really certain of her age in this video, I’ve read nine or ten, either way, remarkable. You have such a wonderful journey ahead of you discovering her over 120 videos she has made over the last six or seven years. I totally agree with you that she will be a super star, I believe she already is. I’m 66 years old and have listened and loved music all my life and she is one of my favorite singers I’ve ever enjoyed listening to. She delivers emotion like I haven’t experienced since Elvis (BTW she sings Elvis Presley’s songs better than anyone I’ve heard besides Elvis himself and she gives him a run for his money lol. Thanks for your good reaction of Angelina. She is known for "a thousand vocal voices". She adjusts her voice to what genre she sings. She tries back and forth between genres. She said somewhere that her grandmother played jazz around the house when she was growing up and that’s what made her love the sound of jazz! I just can’t imagine myself falling in love with that type of music! But like you said... She has a God given talent and God had/ has a plan for her life!

I bet you will watch this over and over again just like all the rest of us lol. I know I CAN listen to her over and over and still want more and I love all music and all artist but I have became one of her followers. Her own music are going to all be hits. Can't wait to buy her music. Her talents inspire me and bring up my vibrations to sheer happiness. I feel the connection with each goosebump.

If you look back you will see that she doesn't have small feet. She is now 6ft tall. She is the most awesome talent to come along this century Her voice is helping me get through this pandemic.

Thank you for a wonderful Angelina Jordan reaction. New sub here because of them. What she wrote in the beginning was the musical arrangement for all the musicians, yes, she is that talented. When she was on Norway's Got Talent as a 8 year old she corrected the musicians and made them do it her way, she really is the real deal and a musical prodigy. Now that you have seen what she is capable of you will notice that with Angelina less is often more, she does not over use musical acrobatics and is more focused on how to convey the feeling of the song, then reaching those high notes.
