The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps) recorded the album "It's Magic" with 16 tracks in 2017/18 to mark the 200th anniversary and released it under their record label Forsvarets Musikk. Because of the special anniversary, they asked Angelina (Angelina was 11y) to do the vocals on the album. As a special tribute to Angelina, two originals by Angelina were also released on the album. On June 16, 2018, for the official celebrations and tribute to the orchestra, there was this spectacular concert "It's Magic' with many prominent guests including the Prime Minister at the time, Erna Solberg. 👣💯 *AJ* 💯👣

This was a G.O.A.T. performance. No one could rival this girl at 11 let alone now at 18. She doesn't get near the credit for her power or her range. Probably, because unlike some vocalist, she doesn't display her power or range, just because she can. It has to fit the occasion and the mood she is looking for. Great reaction. Everyone is right about Unchained Melody. Given it was a live performance with an orchestra at such a prestigious event, the vulnerability she put herself into is insane. An artist has to have extreme confidence to take the chances she did. No room for error. There weren't any. Perfection! Another G.O.A.T. performance.

As amazing as this performance is, we forget Angelina's age and that this was recorded on a cellphone. The girl is skilled beyond comprehension. There is so so much more to look forward to from Angelina. Thanks Nina, your the best.

The band is the Norwegian military band which was celebrating its 200th year in existence. They recorded the album Its Magic with Angelina. This video is from a performance of the entire album. Angelina was 12 but I believe she was still 11 when the album was recorded. FYI, the It’s Magic album contains Angelina’s first two recorded originals, Oslo and What Is Life.

The Norwegian Armed Forces Staff Music Corps (Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps) is Norway's largest professional brass band and celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2018. To mark this anniversary the orchestra went into the studio to record an album in November 2017 and they asked 11yo Angelina Jordan to do the vocals on the album. As a special tribute to Angelina, the two originals Angelina had at the time (“What is life” & “Oslo”) and her signature song “Fly me to the Moon” were also released on the album. There is some footage online on YT with rehearsal stuff and very interesting takes from recording sessions related to this album (most prominent “I’m a fool to want you” and “cheek to cheek”). Kaleidoscope RMX used some of it for their video “Creating ‘Oslo’ ” The album was released in May 2018 on the Forsvarets Musikk record label, it is called “It’s Magic” and contains 16 Tracks - three of which are instrumental. On June 16, 2018, for the official celebrations and tribute to the orchestra, there was the spectacular concert this video is taken from. It took place outdoors under a large pavilion in front of Akershus festning, the famous fortress that has guarded Oslo for hundreds of years, in the presence Prime Minister Erna Solberg and many other prominent guests. The stage is called “Karpedammen Scene” (= “carp pond stage”), since there is a small pond in front of the stage which is actually the last remains of the old moat that was an obstacle for evil attacking armies. It's amazing how well Angelina's vocals and the orchestra's performance go together throughout the concert - a testament to 12-year-old Angelina's ability to work with such a large band (39 musicians).

Greg Fields, a nine-time Grammy winner, son-in-law of the legendary composer Henry Mancini, and former drummer for Frank Sinatra, shared his insights on Angelina Jordan's Christmas Concert on Dec 23, 2023, he and several other major musicians accompanied AJ. He recalled that Sinatra once told him that the key to singing was not to let it interfere with the storytelling. Obviously he is a HUGE fan and has the same reaction on each song from this great concert in 2018, supporting Angelina's "It's Magic" album which, at times, has been among the best selling jazz albums. My mom was a professional singer in the Big Band Era. She was the headliner when all the great bands came thru her town. She sang with all the great bands, and taught us to appreciate that Era, and she sang at all of All 6 children’s at our wedding receptions. Angelina is simply an old school mega star. Defence Forces Staff Band, based in Oslo. Close to where Angelina lived som so probably popped in for rehersal. They were 200 years old, made a record ('It's magic') and invited AJ to sing. They made one concert/celebraition at Akershus Medeaval Castle in Oslo City Centre with primeminister and other celebreties present. There is another video out where the band celebraithed AJ's 12th birthday (6 years ago today). Plus there is one video from backstage of the concert also on RU-vid.

I wouldn't otherwise be a "fan" of a lot of the music she covers, but when she sings it, I become one. It's not that I dislike it, but just not my taste. However, when she sings it's magic! Don't know if it's her tone or what it is, but it does something to my brain. Any age, song, genre, etc, I can and do listen and melt;)

Angelina Jordan is the Goddaughter Of Soul. She takes the best of James Brown's emotion and her own amazing technique and blends it into an outstanding cover. I love her belting: it's powerful and rich at the same time. Also, she seasons a line or two with some funky "aaah" vowels that make me shiver inside. Great analysis, Nina! More AJ! :)

Nina, great reaction to an amazing performance by a singer of any age, but at just twelve! When you react to Angelina contribution to the Nobel Prize ceremony, keep in mind they she is singing to the recipient’s two teenage children who hadn’t seen their mom for several years since she was imprisoned by Iran over her advocacy for women’s rights. The daughter has concluded the sentence (I believe 16 yrs and several dozen lashes) has become a life sentence and they will never see her again. In an interview they said she was fighting to make Iran a better place for them. The song Angelina sings is most often thought of as a beautiful, love song by The Righteous Brothers, when actually it was a 1930’s?? instrumental chosen as the theme for the 1955 prison movie, “Unchained”. The lyrics were written for the movie and sung by one of the prisoners doing time knowing he could escape but that would most certainly prolong the time away from his loved ones as he would be forever on the run or caught and sentenced to additional time. It’s almost as if Angelina is channeling the imprisoned Iranian activist when singing to her children. At the end of the song you’ll notice how during the applause, Angelina looks over at the twin son and daughter to acknowledge them with a smile of love with her hand over her heart.
