The performance here is mesmerizing.
Time completely suspended midair hovering like the Golden Eagle of Song that she is. She is so beloved it’s hard to imagine a more unique heartfelt person to hear over all the land. This song so beautifully sung. My personal fave for jazz fun is called Loving You.

This is one of the hardest songs to sing, which is why most can not do the song justice. Angelina -- a voice for the ages, there is nothing she can not sing and take it to a whole new level ♥
She has done something to this song to make it so much better than I have ever heard it before. The ending is a masterful display of vocal agility. For a 17 year old to have the confidence to do this to such a well known song speaks to her sense of knowing how songs are meant to be sung. She is like a conductor of an orchestra who knows how the composer wanted his music played. One thing she isn't and this is just another singer.
I suppose that there would be some differences of opinions when ranking this against Bobby Hatfield's 'gold standard' version but for me, Angelina has made this song address a different emotion than all the rest. For me, it is an original.
This is the best Unchained Melody version that I have ever heard from her and absolutely from anybody else... As you said this is how this song should be sung. Angelina made this song standout and beautiful that after hearing this it made me want to sing the song in her version no matter how awful I may sound singing it. It made my day just like that. Her best vocal performance? It's debatable, depending on one's preference. There's just a lot of superb performances from her to consider and trying to define one is just something that could break your brain. So I'm not trying..😅
I agree Ulysses. And yes Mike Haun, most everyone’s top three list of Angelina’s music contain fifteen or more songs on the list. It’s impossible to pick just one (or three) with such an over abundance of beauty. Ulysses, I can’t think of ANY version of “Unchained Melody” that sounds better than Angelina’s. This song live, was off the charts. 🎶🥰💛👣
I know I am very partial but this is not "one of the best"! THIS IS the best! And setting 30 feet from her sing it live was even better than this video! Sept 22, 2023 in Portsmouth was the greatest night of my 81 years! My all time favorite song being sung by my all time favorite vocalist and she did it better than ANYONE (including Bobby Hatfield) had ever done it! What more could anyone ever ask for!!! And, YES, this 81 yo old man cried all the way thru her performance of this song!
Nick, we missed your reactions to Angelina. I know life can get busy and family and friends always come first. I was sitting in the 5th row at this concert and can honestly say, Angelina sounded much better live than on video. The whole concert was great and meeting so many people who I have exchanged comments with was awesome. Can't wait for Angelina's next concert. Hopefully she will announce one soon.
Welcome to America baby girl! That is how an audience should react!! It is funny, I follow many reactors from overseas and one of them was talking about how she uses her hands and arms when she sings. I told them they must have not been in a church where they are singing and praising the Lord because when that happens you can not help but raise your hands up using them to tell your story to the Lord! You can always tell who started out singing in church just by watching for this. Angelina, I don't believe started in the church, but she has spoke about her love of God and this is why she can tell her story with just her voice and hands. Because she doesn't make it about her, she makes it about you!
Time goes by so slowly ... in fact, it practically stops, during this absolutely stunning performance. Glad to see you back with Angelina, Nick! This performance was the highlight of the evening - had me in tears then, and again watching it now. She is such an incredible artist. Everyone needs to see her in concert, at least once - as good as this recording is, she is even more amazing, live.
That was the bones to what she will do with this song later. Whatever the little things were that might not have gone as smoothly as hoped, they are not worth discussing. This young lady has such a grasp of timing and vocal dynamics that they over-ride anyone's feeble attempts to point out anything less than great. Remember she is only 17 and women's voices don't get stable until their late 20's to early 30's. So, scary thought, she is only going to get better. Angelina is absolutely fearless to cover the best of the past and current great’s song’s. In nearly every performance Angelina’s renditions are better than the originals. She takes an already iconic and famous song and puts her brilliant, unique and instinctive touch on the arrangement and her interpretation of the lyrics.
This sounds so good! The whole concert seemed to be amazing. The were two tiny complaints about the concert: people would have liked for it to have lasted longer and the interaction the band was a little loud. Regarding the latter, Angelina might have forgotten that mere mortal musicians need a bunch of rehearsals to get up and ready: the interaction with the band was a little tentative still it seemed from the recordings.
My wife and I were there also. It was an unforgettable evening. We felt that the songs she sang with only one or two instruments backing her up allowed her voice to be appreciated a whole lot more than when the whole group joined in. 😊
Her decision to slow the tempo to 1 1/4 time, or a little longer, was sheer brilliance. It took the pop out and made it a showcase for her particular brand of vocal gymnastics, while giving the song gravitas, making it the longing lament it could always have been, but rarely was. And by the way, you are not the only one who who is speechless after this vid.

Unfortunately the Acoustics in THE MUSIC HALL were pretty horrific, so no matter where you attempted to get audio from, this was pretty much the result. Really too bad, because it was MUCH better in person. As far as I'm concerned, an Outdoor /Semi-Outdoor Venue would have been ideal, or a place made for Concerts like this. THE MUSIC HALL is NOT that place, as far as I can tell.
The only reason this song was so great is because the band tone it down a bit. They drowned her out on half her songs...!!! I hope to god she never uses that band again...!!!!
