My analysis of the video: It’s about Tom and his ex-wife Jennifer. Tom has always been pursuing music and his endeavors. That’s the first part, where he’s just playing guitar and the girl wants his attention. Then as Jennifer became a business woman of her own, she was busy with that and even though Tom wanted to be involved, that was HER thing. The magazine at 3:26 is in reference to Jennifer being in design and fashion. So Tom decided to pursue his thing to the full extent, with music, film, To the Stars Academy so that’s why he went his own way. They’re frustrated at each other because they are not in sync. Her pulling the plug on the band is her saying that her and Tom are over and that she’s out of his life. Just my take.
Tom has the ability to connect with his audience in a way so few musicians can. Yes I love love love old school blink. I like AVA. I don’t hate the new Blink stuff but I find myself way more fascinated with whatever Tom’s doing than anyone else. His sound is so unique and his lyrics and riffs are what makes him unforgettable. Never stop Tom please.
Nine has a couple okay songs but they are too overproduced and glossy for my liking. Tom's music still has a dirty rawness to it that sounds better to my ears.
Tom is a fucking melodic genius! he might not be the most technical guitarist or singer but he can make melodies that get stuck deep inside your brain which is a rare gift.
Tom looks happy and sharp. Brace yourself good days are coming again folks. Now I don't even care if it's blink or ava. If it makes me feel that vibe I'm definitely into it.
That's because he kind of has he's old fringe / hair style back and yeah you're right about the weight! To the starts academy must have made him stress eat for a bit Im thinking
@@kmhanratty I'd guess you're right on that. He seems like a nice dude! I'm just happy to see he's still there, whether or not he's the sonic genius behind their songs or not.
I followed Tom for so long, he never dissapoints. Loved the way he showcased his frustration. He is one of those people who can portray a story in a spectacular way. Yea Tom!
@@enjoyerofsilence Tim McIlrath has a unique voice, however I kinda disagree, the only reason I can see logically arguing him as more unique than Tom is that they have different styles and registers and Tim's style and register is far less common as one can kinda lump Tom in with a bunch pop punk falsetto vocalists... However are any of them a dead match for Tom? None that I've heard. Even Mark is relatively unmistakable as a vocalist in my experience, the key difference again would be Tim's style and range. Basically "most unique" is kinda silly thing to try to claim with something like vox punk where admittedly some vocalists sound similar, however plenty are also fairly unmistakable. I can't think of anyone that sounds like Dexter from Offspring either. Tyson Ritter is sometimes used as prominent example of falsetto in pop punk and people writing about lesser known pop punk bands with falsetto vox might directly compare the vocalist to him, however he's still fairly unique. Like I remember reading an article about Martin from BLG way back when and they compared his style to that of Tyson Ritter. There's no mistaking Tyson and Martin to anyone familiar with their work though. Or what about Davey Havock? Like I could go on and on. A lot of the the major known talents in punk don't really sound like anyone else, which is all unique really means in this context... Tim is a unique, impressive, talented vocalist. Declaring him most unique in a convo that has nothing to do with Rise is a bit much however...
this is a direct evolution of blink’s, “always” and no one can convince me different EDIT: i guess i should have implied that i was talking about the video. song is flawless as well though.
How does this song go from being "Meh" first listen to one of my all time favorite songs from Tom? There's a lot to the structure and style of this song. That chorus is the most addictive listen
I find some of Tom's AVA tracks are definitely worth multiple listens prior to reaching a verdict... They can be very layered and some of the best/catchiest parts can elude you if you're just giving it one spin/distracted/whatever...
They did a remix of the song for the music video so it sounds more punchy and the vocals are more clear. Plus, having a visual to go along with it is always more stimulating to the brain lol
This is the perfect blend of rock and synths. We have the angels and airwaves vibe, with the box car distorted guitar and drums, but with blink 182 feel with lyrics during the parts when their on the sofa. ❤️ Tom always has his signature sound. I will always wish him the best.
Tom is a great guy, he played a Private Acoustic concert at Brooke Army Medical Center while I was there. After the show he gave away a few guitars and some other gear he had brought with him.
@@secretunknown253 Maybe not a genius but I think he's smart in a way that he's innovative and can make simple things really seem complex. I definitely think he catches a ton of flak just because he came from blink-182 and his voice isn't the best. I know people say The Cure is like AVA but I don't see it. There's something about the drumming, that satisfying delay pedal, and simple parts of the songs that really make it all come together. I like pop punk very much but it is all very much interchangeable. This band, and Rise Against are by far my favorite because they have their sound down. They know what it is, and they can use it perfectly.
I really like what I've been hearing out of tom lately, he is talented on his own as well as in blink and I think people are starting to see that. Ava is not just a side project but a full contender. When is this new album gonna drop cuz it's gonna slay 😎 keep up the great work tom and company.
@@PotentialScammer__ thanks, been trying to find out about it since I first heard about rebel girl and they just have hints and nods. Looking forward to it 😎
I have a strong feeling that in light of everything going on in Tom’s personal life that we’re all going to get a completely new perspective of AVA music. I look forward to it.
@@fxexpert4541 I COULDNT AGREE MORE. I know blink for a long time was primarily mark on vocals but without Tom on guitar it's just never gonna be the same.
Well Tom wrote the songs he sings on with blink, while Mark wrote the songs he had lead vocals on. Due to the nature of their respective instruments, Mark was much more dependant on whatever effort Tom felt like giving Mark's songs, guitar wise. Listen to Neighborhoods to see what I mean, all of Mark's songs are super straight forward (Heart's All Gone, Mh.4.18.2011, Fighting the Gravity, etc) cause Tom was pretty much checked out at that point and didn't really give it his best effort.
Matt has worked with some of the industry's best. For him to stick around in the band means he sees a bright future with AvA. I think what rubs former band members the wrong way are the LOOOONG breaks Tom seems to take.
@@DavidAGIII I never said he wasnt. Trust me you're not the only one who follows his social media. But people dont just leave bands because they are happy. Thats why David started his coffee venture. To keep himself busy during the hiatus. Atom kept wanting to do music and couldnt just hop back and forth between projects. David was fine being on Toms time, Matt and Atom werent.
Tom seems so happy with Angels And Airwaves and as much as I want him to go back to Blink I think he should do what he wants to do because it always turns out awesome!
One thing I’ve learned about Tom over the years is that almost everything he does has a deeper meaning than it seems.. whether it’s his lyrics and/or music videos! I think the comments about the video relating to his marriage are spot on!
Bradley Colvert while the video makes me think it’s about his wife, the lyrics represent playing with fire, doing something you’re not supposed to. The song is called kiss and tell. It’s a clear doing something you aren’t supposed to situation. Sounds like he fell in love with someone else. The last lyrics are i can’t make this one work if I don’t let her go.
This was shot so well! I love how we see the band so clearly and it focuses more on them performing rather than the dark shots in Rebel Girl. Great job!
I'm proud of Tom for having so many good come back hit songs after years of being on break...the mosh pits are great at concerts for these newer songs...can't wait to see them again!
iempire100 me too. My hubby and I were married aug 2001, Tom n Jennifer earlier back in March or april 2001.. when I heard she was estranged from him (she moved out) on dec 27, 2017.,, made me so sad. I think that he left blink to be home more w his kids and Jen but while he wasn’t there for a lot of the time, she has a masters in something artsy she actually really helped Tom and the blink 182 get ideas , there are several songs about her . Even the one he put out on self titled and then “there is” when he was boxcar, that’s a song he wrote about her..,doesn’t sound too happy. I think 2 type A’s with soaring goals while he’s on tour w blink so much she did her own thing, then like I said he put the studio in his home. I think it’s like what happens w military marriages..when someone is gone so much and especially a strong woman like his soon to be ex is, he prob stormed in there , but so much had already changed, she didn’t need him, she has success of her own. Ppl do drift, I highly doubt he cheated, or even her.,,I just think they grew apart, it does make me sad tho esp if you go watch the blink 182 video ‘stay together for the kids’ makes me cry. He is so down to earth have met him several times. I think he’s grown up from his blink days, enter adulting tom, and that equals AVA... I’ll always love Blink 182 I listened to from the beginning, thru the band drama etc,,but I cannot take skiba singing songs like ‘aliens exist’ seems so blatantly wrong. When I just met him again w my hubby when he was just in St. Louis 9-22 -19, his live voice is just perfect, he wasn’t feeling well, but he didn’t let it show, when he did the acoustic parts of some Blink songs (miss u, there is (boxcar), and aliens exist)...just him and his guitar, I swear his voice broke during there is..he was so raw emotion. The m&g before hand he was the same guy I e always met. Super goofy, sweet, and very down to earth lol funny since his head is in the cosmos., u never know what goes on behind closed doors. I think Tom is heartbroken hence this video w obvious personal similarities..I don’t know much. Sry I text too much. I talk too much too, (hubby tells me that lol) love this video.
I've met/hung out with Tom on 3 different occasions. He's an incredible guy. Kind. Down to earth. Fascinating stories. And actually listens to people when they speak to him. Not very many rock stars give fans a photo op much less sit and talk with you for over an hour. I was on stage during a sound check and afterwards, we kicked it on stage and talked about his music, aliens, my shoes (I was wearing an old pair of Macbeths he had helped design and he wanted to sign them), and good restaurants in the town we were in. Genuinely one of the most interesting and humble people I have ever met.
Tom, this one video tells such an amazing story! I understand what is going on. Why you stopped playing in Blink, why your marriage ended, everything. Your voice and your presence are on fire! This is what you were meant to do in life (and tell the world about aliens). Keep doing you. We love you just the way you are.
I feel like it's a video of two people growing in two different directions. when tom was into a project (playing guitar) his wife wanted attention, but there wasn't any time. when tom was done with the project and can finally give his attention his wife was working on a project of her own. amazing stuff
The first Angels & Airwaves album is one of the most slept on rock albums in history. It baffles me how that album didn't win awards and break records.
Depende de lo que quieras decir. Si te refieres a que es "una leyenda del rock moderno" sería "a modern rock's legend". Por otra parte, si quieres decir que es "una leyenda moderna del rock" sería algo como "a rock's modern legend".
Haters back a few years ago: "Tom will never be anything without Blink." Tom: "Watch me." He's been killing it lately. And I agree with the analysis made by dgar below, I feel this is about him and Jennifer.
does he killing it live????? cause he has been trash live lately...no offence . i loved tom when he was younger.his live perfs were good.. but now.... naah
Whenever Tom says 'What the f***!?'.. Is it just me or does it sound funnier coming out of him than anyone else? lol.. Love the song and I love Thomas' music.
Angels or blink. It's all good music. They both have some eh' songs but both have oh ya songs. Appreciate the 2. For they are different worlds my friends.
@@DannyThomson bruuuh like imagine marrying your high school sweetheart and calling quits. I was hoping as bad as it sounds was she cheated or something. Like he should have listened to stay together for the kids before pulling that trigger
Been an AVA since the beginning and seen them play a few times before the long hiatus. Saw them play last month. Tom and the band sounded awesome. Never heard Tom sing that well. If they are playing near you check them out.
There's freedom in pursuing your passions with integrity, and not trying to cater to Buffoonish Faction of Blink's fan base that only has a superficial appreciation for the band's "brand", expects them merely to futilely attempt to recapture the vibe of past glory, and is irrationally hostile to the spawn bands like Mark and Travis are... Honestly neoBlink kinda makes me nostalgic for when they broke up the first time. Yeah Mark and Travis were bitter, but I don't think they would have totally sold out like this if they were still performing as Plus, perhaps in part 'cause those aforementioned Buffoonish Blink fans would have likely mercilessly dragged them. It's truly tragic that they take people that would change their opinion on a track being good or bad based off of whether it was released by "Blink" or by "Plus 44" seriously, let along seek validation from them... =/
@Guglielmo IV It depends how you do it. The guys of WEEZER are old goofballs, too. But their latest album is just as genuine, funny and melodic as their blue album.
@Guglielmo IV I know what you mean. »Nerd bands« like WEEZER have an easier transition into the dad joke phase because they made dad jokes when they were young. »Skater bands« need to keep an atmosphere of coolness and can't truly embrace their dad humor.
Yea guys, but there's one more thing...every time Mark tries something new, everybody is like; That's not blink - it's too dark, it's too pop, it's too slow. The fans don't let it evolve and then they get the pool song and are not happy either.
@Guglielmo IV I agree with you, but it is easy to get affected by hater comments. Maybe he just needs inspiration, the talent is obviously there - just listen to the +44 album 😉
I remember when I was a teenager I loved blink and kinda disliked AvA, and when Neighborhoods came out I was 15 and just hated it because it wasnt the blink that i was expecting. Now I'm 23 and I love Neighborhoods and AvA and kinda dislike what's blink doing right know. Its just crazy how your point of view changes as you grow and mature.
My man just came back with the lead single to the Blink record that should have come after the self titled one. Much respect to the musicians in both bands, but this song just rips. I've always loved Tom's voice, and it's rather great to hear it back again in such a comfortable spot.
