Here I am at 36 on Christmas night, sipping on the leftover wine from the festivities today, by myself in my man cave, listening…. These songs make me happy. This Blink fan has come a long way…
im about 20 years younger than you, I just turned 17 and god this man changed my outlook on music, I decided to pick up a guitar and start writing songs because of him. I fucking love tom's art dude
@@mbuckholz For sure this is probably Melodyned or some equivalent, but most people don't realize that in general - you still have to be able to sing pretty well in order for auto-tune to be of use anyways. You *can* edit a vocal into oblivion for sure and I've seen some crazy shit get saved (including my own awful vocals before I figured out how to sing lmaoo) but if your singing tone, breath support, energy, pronunciation, delivery, resonance, ability to hold a note (even if it's off pitch) etc all suck, there's very little you can do to make that sound good. The worse you are, the more likely the post-processing fixes will be even more apparent, even if you manage to make it *work*. And although Tom has never been the *best* singer (but imo still a great vocalist which is not the same thing), I don't think the un-fixed version of these vocals would be all that bad, assuming you still gave them the EQ and Comp to fit in the song level wise that you would give to anyone else, etc... Every time I hear Blink-182's song. I see myself as a high-school teenager who loves everything about girls, skates, and music. but when I hear AVA. I see myself as an astronaut floating around space. it's amazing how one person can create a two different worlds on his songs.
There was a reporter who had a video once who said it's amazing what Tom has done the last 30 years. He started and wrote songs that were hits for 3 bands in the last 30 years that were each entirely different. The man is indeed a genius.
Tom is one of the most underrated musicians out there. His sense of melody is like nobody elses. Totally unique. His guitar playing is amazing as well. The addition of Ilan has taken AVA to a whole new level. Not necessarily his drumming which is incredible, but how he structures the songs. He and Tom work so well together.
This is one of his best performances in absolutely years! Tom may not have the guitar chops of Slash or Mark Tremonti, but he's written amazing songs over his 30 year career and his playing is perfect for it. I wasn't particularly keen on The Dream Walker. While It is a decent album and Ilan's addition was the shake up the band needed as it was getting a bit samey, I think in the attempt to try a new musical direction, they went a little bit too far and sounded a bit too disconnected from the band I fell in love with (Plus, I'm a big Atom Willard fan). Lifeforms I feel is the album where they got the balance right between retaining that element of familiarity whilst delivering something new and fresh :) Well Done AVA!!!
WOW... I stumbled across AVA music 4 months ago and I'm in my mid 60s and I'm just blown away by their music. It's so addicting that I listen to it every day. Toms voice so in tune, that I cannot find 1 bad song from these guys. I sure hope they come to the Minneapolis area sometime soon. The lyrics in most songs are so cool and creative. My fav songs are True Love, Breathe, and Heaven. Thanks for the great songs that lift my spirits each time I listen.
I am 55 and was lucky enough to stumble across their music at least 10 years ago. I don't think they have one bad song. This performance is bang on ... and I can't stop listening to Time Bomb.
This is so absolutely heart warming and awesome to read. I've loved blink since my teenage years, and every side project/band from the blink trio ever since. You're 60, just discovering AVA, and I was crying / losing my voice to their music in my car when I was in college when I was 19. So cool to hear someone who's 60 love the same stuff that I became enamored with when I was 19. Also I share a favorite song with you, Heaven. You could say it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up, nearly every time!
pitch-corrected tom is honest to god magic. i know there's a lot of older fans here who prefer a more raw tone, but those elongated notes he uses in his songwriting are iconic, and this is how he can truly hit them live in ways that are literally impossible without vibrato or the tech used here. it's a beautiful combo
he's honestly gotten better at singing too, starting to use his mix voice and breathe better. i noticed this on the recent acoustic sets he did, no autotune and muuuuch better control of his voice.
Few songs raise my mood like Heaven, the Adventure and Everything’s Magic. It’s the kind of music that makes you feel like you can go conquer the world. If I had a soundtrack to my life those would be on it.
Ava would be my choice to hear live at the LV Sphere-With the music and the amazing visuals they could produce-a handful of shrooms and let the journey begin. Epic
Man,i agree AvA is very good for "happy heart space" mushrooms, but i swear listen The Verve - A Storm In Heaven.Album version or live, no matter. This sh,it is another kind of mushrooms trip without mushrooms!))
I have never commented on any youtube content in my entire life. When I saw this video I felt it necessary to create an account and state the following: This entire performance put a permanent smile on my face; like the kind you cant help but make from hearing something so profound and inspiring. Tom, I always knew you had it in you to sound this incredible in a live performance, you absolutely crushed it! I know I'm not alone when I say that this music speaks volumes to me, and it is truly a staple of hope, love, and inspiration on a cosmic level. -AVA has my eternal Gratitude!
I always used to why other popular artist and songs get best views and hit the top But eventually I realized only the secret crowds who come here to watch every Tom’s music are the one to recognize true artist lyrics genius he is and he will always be our fav person ❤️
@@antiantifans1914 taste. I get you. Atom was precise and mechanical even which is just made for Ava. Ilan has more soul and feel, which can be unsuited for people but I started to appreciate his talent and ability. I did actually start off genuinely disliking him, thinking he's a bad choice. Total Atom fan right here.
@@antiantifans1914 Atom and Ilan are two beasts. Atom is more aggressive and heavy, but Ilan is more technically capable and your play flow on drums with more naturality. Personally I prefer the Ilan style.
Heaven is my favorite and sacred song of all time . This is strange as i am a Nigerian and we mostly listen to afrobeat. However before afrofusion became a global infestation, rocks from AVA, Chris Daughtry and SOTY were my best picks. Miss my undergraduate school days
This is just unbelievable. Experiencing this live would have been remarkable. When i was growing up listening to Blink i thought Tom was just the coolest dude. As an adult, i appreciate his genius more than ever. I love Blink. I love AVA. Tom is the common denominator. What an underrated artist.
💯. Saw AVA circa 2007 and of 100+ concerts I’ve been too in my life it’s still one of my favorites. Awesome sound, lights, and distinctly remember an American flag lit up and waving the whole set at the back of the stage.
I think I’ve watched this full concert like 20 times now, Its like having a best of playlist of AvA but a million times better since its live and it was mixed so well.
I've watched it every day for the past 2 weeks and cried 14 times. I weep at true beauty, like a baby every time. And this is some kind of beauty above most of the beauty I have have never seen in my 51 years. Long live beauty and the the life of Tom DeLonge who created the flooding spilling floods made of joy in buckets from my eyes. This is a beauty that will always have my tears. It's a joy and a floodgate that's held them for years. Beauty is magic and tears heal years. Viva la AVA
Wow this live performance is so good! Tom had lost his voice for quite some time but this is soo good! I LOVE IT!!! I love Tom and I love Angels And Airwaves :)
Man I love all of the comments here, seeing the admiration for this music and knowing more people are finally putting a true level of respect on how great of an artist Tom really is makes me so happy 🤘💙
Tom has KILLED it live on this entire album cycle. Saw them in Houston back in November and it was SO good. It’s a really great comeback and I think time away from the stage did him a lot of good. This lineup is simply 🔥🔥🔥 and this is the best Tom has sounded since 2004. Great stuff here.
Absolutely agree.. I've always loved this dudes passion for his music.. Angels and Airwaves is definitely one of the best manifestations of his unique form of power..
This has to be one of the best live performance videos ive EVER seen. Everything sounds perfect. Toms singing is sooooo on point too. And the new base players background vocals.. Sounds like a studio edit. Actually soooo good. Best band of all time forsure.
This performance is pure magic. It’s one of those special things in life that make everything seem okay and possible. Thank you SO much for uploading this and to AVA for being so inspiring. Will always love Tom Delonge so much
I love how Tom pronounces things. Makes him so special vocally. But everything else AVA does is unique. So talented! I love them so much. Tom is an inspiration. 🖤🖤🖤
God I love this band. I was the biggest fan of Blink when I was kid.. I got my hands on every album they released, my screen names for AOL/chat were all Blink related, I learned all the riffs. I was gutted when Tom announced his departure, but following his new projects, I realized I loved Tom's song writing more than the band itself. Blink, Box Car Racer, and Angels and Airwaves. All incredible.
What a beautiful live performance they put out here, and during the height of the Pandemic too when everyone was stuck at home, uplifting our spirits. Also big shoutout to Ilan up there on the drums, he's absolutely KILLED it.
The smile on Matt’s face when he’s playing everything’s magic. You can tell he loves that record. And it being My absolute favourite record. Loved to see that
Yeah... I haven't listened to Angels & Airwaves since they first came out and clicked on this out of curiosity but I was actually pleasantly surprised. Tom is a bit of a whacko but he's a loveable whacko and his vocals sound quite good and this was a solid performance.
This is pretty much a live album. artists will usually re-record guitar and will definitely go back in re-record vocals. There isn’t very many true live albums out there.
This is one of my favorite live performances of AVA ever. I need a sound engineer to explain to me why Tom sounds so good here and so different when I see him live (still LOVE seeing him live, he just doesn't sound this polished now).
This is a controlled studio environment- a lot like a recording session. Yeah it may have been an actual live stream- but the mixer knew exactly what to expect/ I bet it was remixed at least a bit and not broadcasted "live". You can hear the additional vocal delay's sound more similar to an album than other live performances. A mixer is there with them at live shows too but theres a lot of other factors that are uncontrollable there- tons of them, extra variables that are unique to each live show. (the crowd, the stage, the weather if its outside, how drunk tom is, etc. etc.) This was a much more controlled environment- and frankly still stunning and F@CKING AWESOME.
They really are one of the best bands ever. WDNTW, I-Empire, and Love pt 1&2 have so much soul and love intertwined within the lyrics and instrumentals
I can’t get over how incredible the guitar tones sound in this performance alongside everything else. Especially in Euphoria, that opening riff has the perfect amount of grunge/gain and that main lead in Rite of Spring just hits so well. An amazing performance!
I came to AVA years back out of my wife's recommendation and the curiosity of the "Blink guy's" other band. I stayed because they are fucking incredible. In the studio and live. Consistently and still. Hope to catch them live.
AVA have truly progressed into an amazing sounding group. Not that they never had a great sound to begin with, but I think this is the best sounding era of the band imo.
@@jskong87 i disagree. AvA are a different band since Atom left. Ilan is a good drummer, but Atom was something else. He really gave the band a unique feel with his playing
@@robslusarphotography not gonna dispute whos the better drummer. They both have their own strengths, powerful, explosive, and tight. But you couldn’t ask for a better follow up drummer than Ilan
