Its nice to see Tom move forward with his music-ability..... I think this rocks, I'm 33 and have been and wil always be a Blink 182, AVA, and Boxcar fan!
Artist never win. They produce the same sound and they are ridiculed for having the same sound. Once they change their sound fans complain about how much they have changed. Artist "lose" no matter what. Respect the music as if you don't know who the artist is.
You wrote it long ago, but I completely agree with you. I enjoy this song just as much as Ghost on the dance floor... who cares if the riff is sounding quite similar
If the song sounds similar to the previous albums they complain. if the song sounds different to the previous albums they complain. if tom keeps doing new stuff they complaing about wasting his time if tom doesnt do new stuff they complain You will surely complain about my comment
Stating that people are constantly complaining is in itself a form of life-destroying pessimism, as it is choosing to recognize the worst in humanity instead of shouting out its best parts and feats. As a great man once said "hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that."
@@talon6890 But it's always good to observe what is unfavorable so we know of which spaces we can improve and change upon. Well hey, P-tom was in a way, right. You sort of kind of did complain.
@@talon6890 It is possible P-tom is not guilty of pessimism but realism. To state P-toms realistic comments are a form of life-destroying pessimism is in itself a form of P-tom destroying pessimism, as it chooses to recognise him as a negative person as opposed to a rational one.
Love Blink and AVA. People always complain about him not working on the new Blink record and Tom just doesn't give a fuck about the people who are complaining, he's just going to keep doing what he does.
JEEVES635 Pretty much I'm referring to something Tom has said himself on instagram about 3 months ago "For all those arguments about which band I'm working with at the moment.. #NoGivingShit "
The vocals sound a lot better in this official version. The leaked one(s) sounded fine but seemed overshadowed by everything. The real version clears that issue up. I'm sure the whole album will be respectable. Can't wait
Awesome track! For all those Blink-blinded out there: Tom always said that AVA is his most important project after Blink182. Blink was already "dead" and it´s NOT Tom´s priority project! With AVA he fullfilled himself a great wish to be independent from the Blink-thingy. In my opinion he´s doing great work with AVA so go on Tom and do it!!!! :-)
It all started when my buddy found WDNTW on his ipod he bought used. iEmpire was one of the first albums I ever purchased new at full price I loved it so much
Grown on me a lot, I understand why some people might not enjoy it as much as the older stuff but I think the new album deserves a chance and still could be their best yet!
Alright my thoughts on this... The song is really good. The mix is good but I feel like Im struggling the whole time to hear the vocals. People please stop saying tom is ripping himself off... Its his style of playing. The songs sound different enough from each other. Also, I would like an official statement on the current status of the other members (or past members) of the band and I want to know where they went.
It sounds like Ghost on the Dancefloor and Snake Charmer. Tom hit a creative block years ago. Everything he's done since the Love Part 2 album, including blink, all sounds like rehash. In every song he's made since then, you can hear chords and melodies from previous AVA songs. He's just not the same and I'm surprised how much guitar I dont hear in this song
Sounds like the vocals on Diary. Blended into the mix, wide, lots of delay and reverb. I like it. It's the AVA style he was looking for. At least that's what he said. He said that Diary was very special for him and he loves the way he sounds on it. I feel like this is what he was looking for when he stated that he wanted his songs to sound mind-blowing. I'm fine with that. Sounds fresh and nice.
Im going to have to disagree. The difference between this song and Diary is on Diary it works. I feel like the majority of people agree that on this song the vocals are too low.
I don't think enough people realize that Tom as a musician has a collection of music that can be looked at as one collection. From the first years of blink, to its final years, to the AVA transition, AVA's 2-3 forms since then, new-reformed Blink and this new song from AVA, its crazy to be obsessed with what sounds what. They are all songs from his bands, and if you think about all of his music together, it kind of makes sense. Similar sounds, but with crazy variation over 23 years- and tons of different musicians, including 2 VERY different drummers
Really do feel for Tom, he is one of the hardest working people in music and what does he get in return? Abuse & hate from a bunch of immature whinny bitches. Since blink got back together five years ago he has released three albums and two eps and it still isn't enough to please some people. Why cant people just appreciate what a good musician and dedicated dude he is? He works hard for both AVA and blink but some people cant see past the fact he isn't a snot nose kid anymore and he focuses on more than one project. blink will come out with a new album and it will be worth the wait but AVA are just as important to Tom and a lot of us fans and if you aren't a fan that's perfectly fine but don't click on this video if your only intention is to spread hate and immature nonsense. How many different projects is Travis involved in? and I don't see him getting anywhere near the level of rubbish Tom has to put up with. Anyway I really like this song and cant wait for the album to drop.
Ewan Bowman I aint sucking his dick and im well aware Tom is far from perfect but the point im making is he gets so much stick from his so called own fans for the simple fact he isn't the same person he was 15/20 years ago and that he doesn't spend his whole life focused on blink. Not everyone is going to like Angels and Airwaves and that's perfectly okay but why go on one of their videos then just to have a moan and bitch on them? I don't like one direction but I don't search them on youtube to leave a comment of hate.
I may be the one person who enjoys the softer vocals. I mean, the song is about sleep paralysis and having the singing be on the softer side kinda makes sense to me. It's good to finally hear some new stuff regardless. I'm stoked for the new album.
I've liked everything Tom ever came out with, but AVA has been my favorite since I first heard them. This song is such an interesting change. It's like every different AVA album holds different attitudes/stories behind the songs. It's always so fucking sweet hearing new material from this band. This song is, like every other AVA song, rated A+/Soaptastic!
i love it. and if you dont, oh well. its Tom's new style, he's been working hard on this. he's not making you listen too it, so you dont need to say how horrible it is, or that you dont like this. just move on, dont listen to it. tom is tom,
This sounds great! It's got some punch to it, love the riff and it sounds like Tom has refined some of his singing a bit to not overdo it. Very excited to hear more!
Man thats how we lost Bradley Nowell. Things were lookin up, they wrote one of the best albums of all time, and he OD'd before he even got to see it blow up the way it did. I'd prefer to keep my favorite musicians alive and writing in this day of shitty pop culture corporate music.
New kind of sound, clearly can sense the absence of critter and even atom! However it sounds great! There's subtle elements from the last few albums, but with a kind of fusion. Love AVA
I think Tom decided to release this song as the single for more "Blink-leaning" fans to be drawn into listen to the new album. That being said I hope the rest of the album is more like AVA and less like Blink, afterall that's why there are two separate bands. To all the AVA haters out there I think you'll appreciate their music eventually, it grows on you after a while. It takes you to another place, it's relaxing and exhilerating all at the same time.
This box says share your thoughts so here they are: Positive: This album is definitely going to be AVA's heaviest effort so far, which I'm happy about because I wasn't super crazy about Love Part 2. Love the heavy bass intro. Sounds amazing and definitely gets the song going. Negative: Production could be better. I wish the vocals were a little more clear. Its a little difficult to understand Tom. I'm just not so sure Rubin is a good fit for this band. He did fantastic on the Paramore record, but I just don't think he fits the AVA mold. When Atom left, I was SUPER disappointed, since he's one of my favorite drummers. When Matt left, I knew AVA's best days were behind them. As for David....I can definitely tell his lack of influence here. Without those three guys, it's almost like a completely different band. However, the song is growing on me. Hopefully, the album is solid. AVA has been my favorite band since high school, and I'm dying for another effort like I-Empire. Edit: Alright guys, 6 years later, this is my second favorite AVA album behind Empire. I'm actually very happy we have Ilan now. He's been a HUGE feather in Tom's cap. This upcoming album is probably going to be their best yet.
He doesn't "fit the mold" because Ilan actually has talent, more talent than the entire group of AVA musicians combined. AVA isn't worthy of Ilan, NIN and the New Regime for life.
I personally think he reached his peak on blink 182 self titled album, that was the best he ever did, and it was with blink, and becuse all of them had like 8 months together in a studio, not far apart, not with each member juggling other projects,,they concentrated on 1 thing and it was the best any of them did in their careers,,,I always wondered how good their next album would be,, i will never know now,,this alright though
Its amazing how one sentence you say can be intepreted so logically different, thats cool!,, but yes i have herd their album after the self titled one and the ep, What i ment was having that feeling that if they had already reached that level , their next album would have been amazing, but i never got a chance to experience that since for me neighberhoods, was quite a step back from what they had done, and the ep was just alright in my opinion,, so ill never get to hear the next thing to top the highest notch, all I can do is wonder,,cause honestly doubt ill get to hear it,,everyband has their time when they where their best, I was lucky enough to have experineced blinks,,i will always like em though
***** I read it as like the last time theyd ever get into the studio for along period of time with full focus on an album again. but idk. dogs eating dogs ep was great.
From multiple interviews I've seen on the internet, it sounds like blink is going back to that untitled recording process... So this album should sound a lot more even and well balanced throughout 😬
Let's go! [Verse 1] I wake to a fire in the realm Little lion safe and sound It's a wild life, so wild crazy Cannot tame the crowd White feast in the hole you're MIA A little hell, you're gonna pay You're a whore at home, the telephone The king that's here to stay [Chorus] Sleep, and waking to life for a hell of a ride Sleep, and waking to life with your hands at your side Paralyzed [Verse 2] Out cold in the gentle rain, a star Little lion set your fire Push away and go, the stereo A tear ruled death depart Nineteen with a wicked MRE What a waste, a memory Gotta study hard, and play the part Now a victim to the scene [Chorus] Sleep, and waking to life for a hell of a ride Sleep, and waking to life with your hands at your side Bridge] It's more the same, a silly old shame A dimly lit road, it will wither and go I climb the light post, illuminate the road For miles away, so safely on your way [Chorus] Sleep, and waking to life for a hell of a ride Sleep, and waking to life with your hands at your side Paralyzed may 18 2022
The thing that really hurts this track is that Tom's lyrics get drowned out by the music. I really hope they fix this by the time of the album's release. That said, it didn't really get me excited for the album like the other preview tracks from past albums. "The Adventure." "Everything's Magic." "Hallucinations." "Anxiety." All got me pumped. "Paralyzed"? Not so much.
I wonder why Tom made this song sound so much like the verses of "Pretty Little Girl" from Blink's Dogs Eating Dogs EP? Because it really sounds a lot like it. I love it, it's a great song, just an observation. (Of course, it is nothing new for Tom, but he always makes it work.)
Yeah that's exactly what I thought, especially when he starts a line of with "nineteen" it makes me think of Pretty Little Girl. But hey, can't say that's a bad thing, both of them are beautiful songs :)
Dusan Djukic Unfortunately I have to agree with you. He is stuck in his creative cycle. Every turn that he does he just recycles, probably unconsciously, a previous song that he wrote. I just hope that the collaboration with Ilan brought things further in another direction. Ilan has a different ear than Tom.
Wow this is really good!!! I used to be a huge AVA fan a few years ago but as I grew up I started to love more heavy metal, but I gotta stay this is really good.
The people who are saying Blink 182 is better than AvA and all that smoke... They are just casual listeners. Trolls. They don't know music. They are not musicians. They wish they could be. This song "Paralyzed" is some of the catchiest shit i've heard in I don't know how many years.... It's definitely my favorite of all the songs released so far. I pump this song in my Jeep. LOud O.o LOUUUUUUUUD!
I guess AVA doesn't catch people up as Blink did. For my part I like both, but i just want to point out that indeed blink was a punk rock band with easy chords progression and stupid lyrics (not always for sure), and AVA is more electro, and much more innovative. But if you listen to the 3 records of AVA you can't tell me you will not be bored, it's like the same song playing diffrently, the same break at the same time, and the same type of lyrics. Well both have strengths and weakness but Blink did a better job, you can't deny it
poeglives keitaro21 It takes far more talent, care, hours, knowledge as an engineer, musicianship, dedication, skill of electronic production to make one AVA song than it does to make one simple Blink song.. As far as your question I get bored usually 1:30 into every blink song compared to AVA. I could listen to every AVA album on repeat. Maybe you are just not an experienced musician who knows how much work it takes to create an space electronic rock song. I dont know.. Just my perspective i guess.
KOZ PRODUCTIONS Look up Trebas Institute. I'm a PLC Tech because 4 daughters dictated $$$ rather than daddy has fun on his Soundcraftsmen. Hung up everything, sold my kit and my Rick 4001 (still that phantom limb itch) and went into full-on dad mode.
''The Dream Walker'' is so much better than Neighborhoods, Love 1 & Love 2. it sounds fresh, new and honest again. also...spring is around the corner here in the netherlands and these songs sound so much better while you feel the warmth of the bright sun....love it. i don't care what anyone says, this is the best AVA record yet. it's less produced and glad they ditched the dotted 8th delay (i love that but it was getting boring). alot of new electronic sounds that blend in well with the whole ''space/dreamy/uplifting'' thing. the vocals were intentional, it's an idea tom had while making ''Diary'' and he kept it....the lyrics often sound more mysterious that way. i actually like the production a lot more :)
I've been listening to Tom since I was 11 y/o and I'm 27 now. Always been my dream to meet Tom! He makes me smile! Seeing a lot of complaining about this new song and I want to smack you all. I'm greatful for another song. Thanks Mr. Tom Delonge (: xoxo A
Aodhan Cowen Yeah, a lot of their stuff in their albums sound too similar. Love Pt. 2 had that problem but about half of the album passed as being 'original' enough.
when inertia first came out you guys said it sounded like snake charmer and when that song came out you guys said it sounded like some sort of song by some band I cant think of right now
If you don't like it don't listen.. Its amazing that you all have so much time to talk shit, but no time to be productive with your own life. Stop worrying a out what Tom does with his time and change your own life. Tom started Blink, as well as Angels & Airwaves. He can spend as little or as much time with either of them as HE wants, and he can use which ever sound HE wants with either. They are his bands, he can do what he likes. If you don't like this group don't listen and be patient. Blink doesn't exist without Tom, go listen and look at how well plus 44 did. Yeah, that's what blink is like WITHOUT Tom, its one bad album. So get out of here
My favourite part of this song is the Ghost on the Dancefloor riff before the "Paralyzed" XD Did he re-use his own riff for the fuck of it? Maybe he thought we wouldn't noticed! Sneaky bastard, Tom! I wonder if he knew he already had a song with that riff in it...? Anywho, heavily anticipating the new album and all the goodies to follow. And sorry all y'all Blink haters, I prefer a Mark/Tom vocal mix, it's just a matter of opinion. :P
He's been re-using riffs from previous AVA songs since Love Part 2. You can also hear Snake Charmer in this song. And in Snake Charmer, he used the riff from the original version of "The Gift"
Ryan Metsger Definitely similar to Snake Charmer, the same with his verse of Dry Your Eyes (Love pt.2). And it's Ghost on the Dancefloor's intro riff, just slower. mike schillig Hope I'm right about what?
It's supposed to be raw and rough around the edges. The song is about sleep paralysis and dreams vs nightmares. So actually, it wasn't mastered horribly. It was intentional.
Kyle Benner Intentional or not, it still doesn't sound good objectively. it can be as artsy and purposeful as it likes, it still isn't pleasant to listen to, and goes against fundamental mastering rules. like, the song is okay, but the production really let's it down.
Kyle Benner Yeah I get what you mean, but there's a difference between going for that sound intentionally, and then getting that sound due to sloppy production. Don't get me wrong, I like what he's done and get what sound he's going for, but it sound better from a listening standpoint.
Miramar Drive It's not raw, there's still autotuning and synth and programmed drums and blah blah blah. It just sounds like shit!! It's muddy as all hell, the guitars are clipping, I can't hear wtf Tom is saying, and it's just shitty! God damn Aaron Rubin really fucked this thing up big time.
I love the instruments in the verses, they remind me of walking through a busy street in a movie haha cannot wait for the new album! I spent the last 7 months waiting for the new Weezer album so I'm prepared for this one, too!
Hm. Mix is pretty average to be honest... You can tell Tom misses the expertise and mixing prowess of Critter. That said, it is AvA so I'll probably do a guitar cover for this anyway. Still stoked for the album coming up. Now that the band is only Tom and Ilan I hope that it doesn't lose its magic...
DemigodMexican Valdez It hasn't officially been confirmed but on all avenues there is no mention or sight of David anymore (on their facebook page, on their website, on the promo pics for the new album). It even states that David is a 'former' member on Wikipedia (even through this isn't a reliable source). It seems David might have been squeezed out by Ilan as the AvA train turned into a duo of Tom and Ilan. David might have wanted to move on due to not feeling like he was a key memeber of AvA now that Ilan came in and the band was heavily focused on the direction that Tom and Illan were taking it. This is all my speculation and I hope I am proven wrong and David is still apart of AvA but it doesn't seem likely. It's sad because Atom is one of my fave drummers, Matt is an absolute beast on the bass and David has been there contributing to AvA (and Boxcar Racer) since their inception.
Different direction. I don't really mind it. Besides, each single that they choose (or gets leaked) always is the weakest song on the album in my opinion. Hallucinations off of Love was not great, Anxiety didn't blow me away from Love, pt. 2. I can wait for the whole album.
It's really interesting now to hear that song called 'tunnels' as tom mentioned it is one of the top two songs he had ever worked on. If he says THAT... Can't wait to hear it
It sounds more down to earth like blink-182, while the rest of AVA had this crazy spacey feel, in my opinion, since you have to treat each band as their own, it is way different than traditional AVA
They're really going back to their roots, I feel. We Don't Need to Whisper was awesome and had a lot of different vibes to each song. I-Empire was alright but became a little too Pop Rock. Love was super spacey and just blended into each other so nothing stood out. Pumped to hear the rest of the album.
We Don't Need To Whisper: You're on Earth, walking with spring-time dew on your toes. I-Empire: You're running up a hill with the sun setting behind you. Love Part 1: You're on a massive drug trip into the deep reaches of space. Love Part 2: You realize that it actually isn't a crazy LSD trip and you actually are in space. The Dream Walker: Personally, I feel like this one's gonna throw you out of space towards Earth and you're going to end up with your face five miles in the dirt.
