This song is like falling asleep and being transported to a mountaintop in the middle of the night, feeling the cold wind on your face and looking out over miles and miles of rivers and valleys and just floating effortlessly over it all.
One of my closest friends had killed herself on the 8th of September, 2014. I feel a lot of different emotions from this song and it makes me feel good and that instead of mourning over her death, you should cherish life and celebrate it. That's a message I'm getting from this song. Am I the only one who cried while listening to this song?
This song is fucking magical, the story behind it that when his father died, he exploded inspiration that transformed into these lyrics is even cooler, I feel sorry for your loss Tom, he would be very proud about this.
Tom worked really hard for two years. And all these comments about how 'bad' his mixing or his style in his songs, it's kills me to see his hard work get called garbage in the end. I know a lot of you would hate it when someone calls your hard work garbage. To me, everything he does is amazing. cause in the end, all his hard work in his music meant everything to me.
Roy AVA It may not be good as the old albums but he went through a lot and kept going, like how he made this song (tunnel) after his father who past away. It's amazing he didn't quit at all, enduring stress of continuing the dream walker album, it was all hard work. Not for nothing, good sir.

Lol I have gone through every song from this album on RU-vid and read through the comments just to see if I'd find anything extraordinary. All it is people bitching about Blink and AVA. Everyone's like, "Do this.." and "Do that" and "This sucks" and "Tom you're wasting your time." Everyone needs to shut the fuck up. If it's not what you want to hear then leave it alone. If you like it, then great. Tell everyone how it makes you feel. Tom makes music with Blink that embraces his youth; makes people feel rebellious. And he writes music with AVA to make himself feel meaningful, and to make other people feel like they can conquer the world.You gotta support him in both aspects. He appeals to a wider variety of listeners than any other musician in the world probably does. And I'm going to be honest, I don't like every song instantly. But whatever mood I'm in, whatever my life situation is, I can find a piece of music that has been written by Tom Delonge (from Blink, AVA, Boxcar, etc.) that matches my mood perfectly. And whenever I find that specific song, I indulge myself in it. Kudos to Tom for doing what he wants. By the way, this song fucking rocks..
This is a gorgeous song. Epic and surreal. Clearly describes a person who is surrounded by misery in their life and is questioning god because of this. They are being emotionally torn about this and feel 'lost' in life because they are losing their faith. And slowly I think they start to realize they are surviving this struggle and becoming a better person because of this. Then before they are about to throw in the towel, god comes in.... and begins speaking these words of wisdom to the person suffering. Right at 2:16. He's saying, when this person dies, don't be a distant stranger. Stay close to me (god) and enjoy your time here with me now, I will explain why I put you through all these sufferings. You have the freedom to do as you do, as your heart commands. You are his. Remember Tom saying you will feel like god himself came down and wrote this music.... this is it. He's not being condescending, he's saying you will see god's point of view.
I'm pretty sure this song had something to do with his dad dying. Tom woke up one night full of energy. He also felt something or someone in the room. He went back to sleep then woke to a phone call 30mins later. It was the hospice his dad was in. Apparently he passed away 30mins ago. Crazy stuff. Anyways it's something like that and I'm pretty sure it was this song.
Is it just me, but since I round the meaning of this song, I feel more connected and admire the art and message that is left behind when this song finishes?

It was the first song that we wrote, and I wrote the whole song up until the chorus, lyrically, about doubting religion. So, flash forward a year-and-a-half later and about two or three months ago, my dad passed away. The night that he passed away, I woke up from my sleep with an extraordinarily massive amount of energy, and I can only describe it as though someone injected me with a gallon of methamphetamines and Ecstasy with electricity. My heart is going 1000 miles per minute, and something is in the room and I can't figure out what this is. I reach for my phone, and there's nothing on my phone. Mind you, I just left my dad at hospice a couple of hours before that. I lay back down, and for 30 minutes I'm trying to fall back asleep, but I can't because I'm literally high. Then my phone buzzes and it's the hospice nurse and she said, "Please call me." I called her, and she said, "Your dad passed away 30 minutes ago." It was the most insane feeling ever. It was so supernatural that it literally changed my life, because it was so strong. Then I went back and I wrote the chorus for this song doubting the existence of God. It's a juxtaposition within the song itself. That song, "Tunnels," it sounds a little Motown or it sounds folky but anthemic. It's so different than any song I've ever done. This is probably of the top two songs I've ever been a part of in my entire career. Sidney S Dude every single AvA fan already knows this, it's old news. The song still lacks substance, he wrote a strong chorus, but the rest of the song is kind of dull in comparison. It has a great meaning, but that doesn't make a great song.
It’s absolutely incredible for years and years I never knew what the song is actually about. When I saw them live a couple days ago Tom explained that this was about his dad dying of cancer. The beginning of the song is completely different than how I was feeling by the end of it. And I’ll feel this song means more to me than it did before.
This song git my soul and brought tears to my eyes. I could feel the passion in your voice for your father Tom. The lyrics are so clever and beautiful. Keep leaving them at his door Tom...maybe he's been answering all along.
I cant stop listening this song. I dont know why, but i have to. I love AVA so much. They change my life. Without them I wouldnt be good in English. Maybe I am not so good but it would be worse if I didnt listen AVA.
Your English is great! That's cool that you could learn English with music. You might want to try Depeche Mode because it's not too fast, and it's very easy to understand the words, and of course classic rock is great for that too. I teach English and I applaud your effort! I live in a state where almost nobody knows this group and young people listen music which doesnt say anything to me. Actually its funny, because when I first heard one song of AVA, I said: "Its horrible." But later I started to listen and now when I am 14 I can say: This is my favorite group of all time. And I hope it will be always my favorite group.
This song means a lot to me, but also to him. You know he put his heart out for this track; the actual story of its creation is worth a read up on to better understand. The dynamics work so well for his vocal range, and the layered production makes the build into the chorus that much more powerful. Angels and Airwaves nailed it here 🤘💞

The reason I love this song so much, apart from the meaning, is because of the drums in the chorus. As much as I hate to say it, Atom would've never come up with such a powerful, technical beat like that. I love it. And the meaning us so great, whether you're a religious presin or not. The verses are him talking about his doubt in God, but in the chorus, it's God talking to the doubter. You can really see that if you look at the lyrics, and that's just beautiful songwriting. I just love every part of this song.
And before anyone starts bashing me, I know the drums in the chorus are very very simple, but it's just creative of Ilan to make a beat so simple, yet powerful in the climax of the song.
So far I think: Paralyzed=Amazing The Wolfpack=Amazing Bullets In the Wind=Amazing Tunnels=Amazing Every song we've heard so far is incredible, they're all so different. Obviously not everyone's going to love every single one, but you should be able to tell them difference between you're personal preference and the quality of the song. This album is clearly going to be incredible
After hearing the first singles I was skeptical of this album, but there's epic stuff here. May not be everyone's bag, but Tom's songwriting with this band gets me every time.
Downright Sp00ky I honestly think it's easily the worst AVA song so far. I think it just sounds like all the crappy rock that was popular in 2006 like Bloc Party and Arctic Monkeys. Didn't sound like AVA to me.
At first you ask god WHY all is so broken... Then you got the perfect answer by god, written by THOMAS DELONGE! This song is kinda fearless,so powerfull and ironically full of life although talking about dead... ITS PERFECT!

I'm sincerely confused by why everyone dislikes Paralyzed so much... In my opinion it's one of my favorites from the new album. Like I honestly like it better than The Wolfpack, not to say that the wolfpack isn't good. I honestly LOVE all of the songs that they've released so far off the dream Walker but I don't know why people dislike paralyzed... I can agree with everyone that the production isn't really that good but other than that I think the lyrics, riff structure, intro, bridge, anthemic feel, etc. Is very appropriate & spot on with AVA's new style. Can anyone tell me their reasons for not liking paralyzed that much? I'm honestly just trying to figure out exactly what most people don't like about it besides its mixing & production
Two reasons IMO 1) It was a very muddy mix with low distorted vocals. Not a bad thing, just definitely a style and not what we ever hear on the radio.... which lead me to 2) It was very different from anything AVA has done in the past. Aesthetically and tonally it's a sharp left turn, and in the modern world people are stiff to change. Everyone complained when Paralyzed came out but everyone seems to be ok with it or like it now. It's just a matter of adjusting to the fact that AVA is changing and expiramenting.
I'm with you on that. Paralyzed is sick. I love the bass intro and how the song just jams. The only thing I have a problem with on that song is the vocals.
Loving this new direction. It's almost like they've mashed together the gritty elements of Boxcar Racer with the grandoise and sonically pleasing AVA sound.
To all you people who are complaining about the mix and the sound - the album is mixed exactly how Tom wanted it to be. If you are a fan, use your brain and do some research, he wanted it, along with every song in this album, to sound rough, almost unclear. They as a ban decided to take this turn and do something new. Artistry isn't about sticking with the same idea, it's about experimenting and taking risks.
i have a different idea why the vocal mix is now more muted. If anyone has ever seen Blink182 or Angels live we all know Tom has lost the ability to perform live. His voice is shot. I think doing this will make it easier to use more effects live with his voice moving forward.
reminds me of "oh please stay awhile, God I love your smile...." I like it. I was very pissed about the mixing of this album at first, but I'm starting to feel ok with it.
Finally a song that a LONG time Blink and AvA fan can enjoy. But what was Tom thinking in mixing all of these? Specifically, the vocal track is buried beneath all the synth and what-not. Without headphones, these songs are impossible to understand. I'mm sure there was some 'artistic' reason he chose to put the vocals lower, but when I listen to music, I want to hear the vocals.... So far I'm not impressed with this album. WDNTW was amazing, I-Empire was really Good, LOVE was amazing and LOVE II was good. I've loved all their albums...but I'm having a hard time getting behind this one, but I'll with-hold full judgement until the entire album drops. My fingers are crossed.
Skyler Schvaneveldt I believe Ties den Dekker is referring to the death of Critter who Mixed and (I think) produced all of Angels and airwaves' stuff and maybe some blink. Personally I like the vocals being a bit lower in the mix.
I guarantee if this sounded like everything else AVA has done you'd all be complaining. Bands change, and while I agree that some of this evolution feels forced, give it a chance. I hated Paralyzed at first, now i really like it. This stuff had to grow on me more than other AVA did, but that's not a bad thing. Let Tom grow as a musician. I for one like that this isn't rehashed blink or ava material like most other albums.

I wasn’t sure if the new record was going to evoke feelings like the previous ones have, but I was wrong. When listening to Tremors, Mercenaries, Kiss With A Spell and Tunnels in sequence, they indeed evoke emotion, and feelings I once buried and forgotten. Seems stupid let music resurrect dead feelings, but they’re a part of your personal evolution and ascension of the soul. For me, I speak how I feel through songs, which is to say, not always understood to those who can say how they feel through mere words. Tremors reminds me of the excitement I had with a previous love - life felt different, I saw things differently. While I was blinded by how I felt, I knew she wasn’t good for me, but I didn’t care, I was on a ride to the unknown since I felt you never really know where opportunities will take you unless you try. Mercenaries/Kiss With A Spell brings to light the battle I fought with both my emotions and the lack there of on her part, trying to make a means to an end with what we had. My heart was a ghost stuck on that lonely cove, and wherever I seemed to go, I left a bit of that sorrow that I was feeling as it begun to wither. She really didn’t need to count me out, but she did and I refused to give up - initially. In the end I was unable to say it, be it out loud or to myself, that it indeed, was over. That first kiss was rapture laced with a spell of thorns. Tunnels remind me of how I felt dead when it all fell apart, like it was all a bad dream. I wanted nothing more but to pull her close, but it was too late, as my heart was already gone and I was drowning in a river of tears. Wherever I went, I felt like I was chasing after her, but going nowhere fast, while leaving a wake of destruction. I eventually put those feelings to rest and begun my ascension from the bottom. These songs just seem so powerful when listened to together, but that’s what I love about AVA, they bring out raw emotion, and even paint surreal pictures in my mind of things you cannot see with your own eyes. It totally sounds stupid saying this aloud, but as a fan, I thought I’d share.
Angels And Airwaves deserve to be a much much bigger band in this world that is full of very poor musicians and music. I truly believe that after listening to the four songs that AVA have put out, that this album will take them to a bigger audience. Which they deserve. I can't lie though, I really really miss Atom. But I love AVA more :)
But he just seems like a really cool guy. He was the little shy guy that wandered on stage with glasses and his own little unique style, and everyone was like "Who is this nerd" and then he just hammered the drums. After every Angles And Airwaves gig, you always heard people say "That band is good, but the drummer is amazing". Atom to me, was the sticky glue that kept everything together at AVA, and I will miss him. But again, I love AVA more and I will stick by them no matter what, because they're music has stuck by me :)
Why wasn't this their first single off the album? This is their best work from the first batch of songs they've since released. I still miss the space sound from years past. I'll learn to like the full album but man am I gonna miss Dave on guitars. He was AVA.
I went to an Angels and Airwaves concert last night and this girl in the second row started clapping her hands really loudly and furiously during the chorus, and Tom stopped singing and asked her why she was doing that. And the girl yelled back, "Because my heart COMMANDED it!" And then Tom screamed back, and I'll never forget the really intense look on his face when he said it, "This show isn't &@#% about you--it's about MEEEEEEEE," and I swear that final "me" was like the loudest and most piercing noise I've ever heard. And then he pointed and yelled "SEIZE HER", and like fifteen roadies came and took her away
BRANSCOMBEx You didn't even let me get to the best part. I was wearing my Poet Anderson costume that night and I took out my umbrella and I kicked everyone's ass and rescued that girl. And then Tom became even more enraged and started playing this weird melody on his guitar that somehow raised up this demon and we had this amazing battle right there on stage. Unfortunately everyone's memories of the battle were wiped by the demon except for the three of us so our battles will continue another day

I disagree. I think this is worlds apart from Paralyzed. I guess that's just difference of opinion though... to each their own! But I do agree with you latter statement, both two amazing songs as well!
