Some behind the scenes footage as Japanese baseball legends Shohei Ohtani and Yu Darvish chat it up at Petco Park before the Padres take on the Angels.
As soon as the Dodgers empty their pockets to get Ohtani (and they will), we will get to see these two square off 2-3 times a year. Most of Japan will be on an unscheduled holiday when they do. 👍
Isn't pitching every 5th day more physically demanding over the course of the season than pitching every 7 or 8 and batting a few times on your off days? Nobody brings this up. Being so good at both is the exceptional thing.
Not really. Pitchers are usually sore for days after their start and need to recover. It’s more demanding that Shohei pitches every 6 and bats the day right after he pitches when most people couldn’t even swing a bat.
It’s the amount of time you have to spend on both outside of playing to be able to play at such a high level is what’s so amazing. Hitting is so hard the hardest thing you can do in sports he does it for fun at the highest level when he’s not starting as a pitcher. So it’s way more physically demanding and infinitely more mentally demanding to do both.
