I was on lisinopril for about 20 years and I couldn’t breathe or swallow. I ended up going to the ER and that’s when the doc said lisinopril was the reason why I was having those symptoms. Long story short, he immediately took me off and put me on hydrochlorthizide

I had that happen to me when I was 15 years old (now 47) .. but it happened after drinking diet coke from a can ... and my lips got swollen and only lasted a few hours ... wasn't taking any medications ... thanks Sarah

My husband experienced angioedema while on Lisinopril that he had taken for several years. We took him to ER over 3 years none of the hospitals recognized what was wrong. Finally he was diagnosed by his allergist. He would have airway obstruction but the hospital would never recognize what was wrong. To the point of need for ventilator.

My mother was in the hospital for 5 days after this happened to her. When released they prescribed another "pryl" medication and a couple months later the same thing happened. She is no longer taking it and doing fine. However, very scary initially.

I’m white British and was on ramipril for about 6 months when the whole of my face swelled up and all red. Now off them thank goodness. ❤❤

Dear Dr Jen To begin I live in Canada . this happened to me about a yr ago . Ive had to previous heart attacks . My first was 10 yrs ago , my last one was about 2 yrs ago . My last heart attack I was put on another drug I had never used before . I took it for over a yr with no issues . Im sorry I dont remember the name . To make a long story short one night my tongue swelled up and I was starting to find it hard to swallow . . I went to our local ER . As soon as I went through triage I was put into the Red Zone for priority . I was taken to a room and put on an IV drip I think it was Benadryl but Im not positive . They also applied a topical I think it was a steroid on my tongue . After a couple of hrs the swelling went down enough I could go home . . I was taken off that mediciation .

I have been on lisinopril for about 2 years now. Last night my lip started swelling. I took two Benadryl and went to bed. Woke up this morning and both my top and bottom lip were extremely swollen. Went to my doctor and it was determined angioadema caused by lisinopril.

Oh wow, thank you again for touching on this. A young, close family member, of African American origin with Lupus just recently started getting angiodema often. They take plaquenil & benlysta. Used to take IVIG. Rheumatology still trying to figure out the cause 😢

I got that after taking Azor for years. Neck swelled then my lips. I had been prescribed Lisinopril decades ago and developed a cough that would occur at the same time every day. My doctor said I was allergic to ace inhibitors. I began taking Azor.

Yes i heard a few years ago that black people shouldn't take lisinopril, my husband was starting to swell around the eyes & mouth, when he was in the hospital, i asked what was he given & the nurse say lisinopril, i told her dont give him no more of that

I get angioedema due to allergies (I’m allergic to dust mites). There was an instance where my tongue began to swell, it’s absolutely terrible 😭

Yes, I got AngioEdema from Lisinopril, and once started (the reaction) it pops up even when off those meds. PS. .. I'm caucasian
