This is one of the best and informative videos I've seen. I could not grasp the idea why I get assymetrical, what is the sience behind it. I think I could now make active flying part of my flying. Thank you for the awesome video.

I got an advance epsilon 9 and the company said that if you would just put your hands up the wing would fly through the turbulence, better than you can fly the wing through the turbulence. I absolutely 100% believe the advance company mathematicians build a wing that will fly better than I can fly it. I believe there's a lot of gradient in the wind speed around here from high altitude to ground level because of the texture of the surface of the Earth. I think when you get your legs out early and you stand up early you pitch the nose down and increase the speed and decrease the glide angle. This is a wonderful thing if you. It reduces the chance of a stall. Any comment on these ideas?

Hi Greg, Thanks for another cool video..Thanks for all you do to educate the PG community. Truly a living legend. I've got a question about active flying I've never been able to get a great answer to: When you're just flying along, wing overhead, all is smooth, how much of your arm weight is hanging on the brakes for trim speed? I've heard no weight at all, hands all the way up is trim.. but then i've also heard that relaxed, full arm weight on the brakes is trim speed. Speed over ground is faster hands completely up, but then I don't feel the wing as much and what it's doing. i know it's never a static amount and it's constantly changing, but where or how much weighting or pull do you recommend for trim? and maybe how much for min sink?

@@flybubbleparagliding I have a related question. Let's say we are at sink speed. If I go hands full up (0 brakes), how much time does it take for a wing to go from minimum sink speed to trim speed. Is it different for different wings? And is this specified somewhere in manufacturer's specs?

Altso roll axis. I usually try to follow the movment of the wing with my hips. Trying to relax. If is's turbulent i fly my chest strap att ca 42-45 cm. If is calm then iI open up a bit to feel lift better.

This is not really telling the whole story... Breaks on paraglider is slowing the glider down and if done fast it will pull the glider back relative to the pilot due to huge differens in mass. Breaks don't change AoA peer se. Trim and speed system does. Maybe the paragliding community need to start talking about the difference between AoA and AoI (angle of incidence). Anyhow, nice video. Active piloting is always a good thing.

Hi craig. I got a question on active flying. When I am flying in thermic conditions, is it a good way to do active flying by mainly using brakes to keep the glider up my head. I heard also about trying to keep constant tension in the lines... what to do to prevent stall and collaps?

The problem of course, in the real world, is blowouts can happen so quickly that reacting to them before they happen is impossible. Such as flying out of a ripper thermal ( 6 m/s) into the vortex on the edge. Klapper! Then your SIV come into play.

Hi Greg, another great video 👍 how does this work a paramotor wing? Then climbing the wing is piched up so how does this effect active flying??
@niconico3907
@niconico3907 4 года назад
Active flying is for highly thermal conditions and/or performance gliders. Paramotor pilots dont fly in thermal conditions, and dont need/like performance gliders, they get scared.
@5123rick
@5123rick 4 года назад
@@niconico3907 So active flying in your experience is only for thermal flying? Hmmm I wouldn't suggest you become an instructor.
@niconico3907
@niconico3907 4 года назад
@@5123rick active flying is needed when your angle of attack is changing constantly, why would your wing angle of attack change if not flying in thermal conditions? Do you need active flying on coastal soaring? In still air, just gliding down from the mountain? No. on seaside cliffs when Im high enough off the ground I fly full speedbar with hands off the brakes on high B.
@5123rick
@5123rick 4 года назад
@@niconico3907 you do realise the air mass is almost never stable? And to assume early morning /evening flights are smooth clean air is what gets paramotor pilots into trouble. Many people fly low where turbulence can come from any large object from trees to buildings to the land shape. As you know the more wind the more rotor. Zero wind flights are rare. We have to land/take of in conditions that may have unstable air, and the need to have pitch and roll control is what keeps you safe. Any rotation movement will cause a pendulum effect. There is wind sheer , gusts and just random rough air. Fly in 10mph wind and unless it is off the beach it is never smooth. The shape of the land miles away effects the air. Laminar air is the dream but unless you coastal flight or fly in nill wind early morning then your going to have turbulence. That doesn't even include dynamic flying from small wingovers to tight turns. Prop wash and wake turbulence from other pilots or yourself . Any time your wing is not directly above you , you need to pilot it to keep it there. I also paraglide (hook2 ) and have always said paramotor pilots should free fly to get experience of wing control.
@5123rick
@5123rick 4 года назад
@Flybubble Paragliding my question was how does that explain what happens when you add a motor to the mix? Ive flown hook2 on the motor and now the qubik which is a paramotor wing. How does pitching the wing up during a climb effect that animation? And does reflex make a difference?

Awesome video and the game. Thank you. Do I understand it correctly what applying a speed bar I decrease AOA and increase the risk of collapse? I would be the second level to add a speed bar to change AOA as well :)
@EduardoMartinez-ys6fb
@EduardoMartinez-ys6fb 3 месяца назад
Yes, that's why it's better to release the speed bar in turbulence.

Although the game and previous explanations are great, the groundhandling explanation at the end is not correct. Glider will have the same AoA while groundhandling and flying. This is why the glider stays at back on flat ground. Or it stays in front when the slope of the ground is too much.

This is what makes paragliding very dangerous for new out of school pilots,I don't think it is stressed enough in training,And then all these new pilots head out for the Alps ,Recipe for disaster

Thats why there are beginner wings. EN A wings are quite collapse resistant, and the collapse should sort itself out.

Its a nice concept but the game is a bit flawed- sometimes it's not possible to stay in the green because you can't go 'hands up' enough- and there is no speed bar 😑 Interesting idea though!
