Getting into the ultra world myself after bikepacking for the last 2 years - got an OR Helium bivvy myself, assume you've had lots of condensation with it too? And how do you manage wet bivvy/bag when needing to keep on the move? In fact - any regrets not using a small 1 man tent? Also curious if you were tempted to go for a TT bag rather than front roll for aero efficiency?
Hi Angus, this exactly setup what i was looking for. I will go on 10000km Europe trip and didn't want to be packed up so much like the most gravelers and carry too much stuff with me. I didnt want any sidebags or so except waterbottels like you had. I never saw somebody who rolled thair sleeping setup like this and this looked brilliant!🎉 I'll definitely try it out. Do you have a video or some comments how your trip went and how your setup was? Did you miss anything or would've done it differently? I hope you had a great time and manged the trip save! Best regards Julia
Hi Julia, The only yhtink i think i would change for this trip wold be a suspension fork as it was pretty rough at times but that is more of a route specific change. for "gravel" this was spot on.
@angusyoung-enduranceathlete I see! I thought the same that it would be really hard to ride in the Spain and Portugal at this gravel parts. I'll hopefully experience this in 2026. So you made a good setup and thanks for responding.
Hi Angus. Are the litlle pouches you use for your tools, bits and bobs from Ross @ Straigtcut? And - can you please let me know what that tiny packable "backpac" was, right at the start of your video. Thank you, Stevie 🙂
Do you find any issue / do you mix you how you manage the sleep system when the bivvy is out in the wet? I.e. do you separate the down sleeping bag from the bivvy when packing so dont get out wet?
Hi, So i tried really hard not to get it too wet, I would always try and find some for of shelter if it was raining. I didnt really feel the need to separate them whilst packing. also at any oppurtunity i would try and dry out the sleeping bag etc.
Hi! What dinamo hub you got and how many spokes? Do you recomend the Aero ones to lighter the setup? Thankyou very much And good luck for the RACE! Also im interested in the sinewave thing to charge the batteries, a video explaining all the details Will be awesome if you can... Bless UP
Hi Its a SON 28 hub with 32 spokes. The 30mm internal is perfect for the 2.6 inch tyres i was using, I think the aero rim would make them balloon out too much.
@@angusyoung-enduranceathlete thankyou for the response, but there is another SON DELUXE hub that is a bit expensive but performs better? With Aero spokes in 32h i think you get better performance, do you think 28h is already good for a dynamo? Is for my all Road bike with Max clearence of 700x35 tires... Also if you can told us a little bit more about your experience with the sinewave... Appreciated! 🙏🏾
@@RASirie1 Yeah so on the road I use the SON deluxe, with the higher speeds its better i think, 28h is good. The sinewave works well, no issues with it. really. I havent used anything else so cant really compare.
Probably a silly question but was that frame bag custom-made for your bike? Sure looks like it. I can't imagine anyone being lucky enough to find one that fits that perfectly. If it is custom-made, how much extra money and hassle did it cost you to have it done?
@@angusyoung-enduranceathlete oh, ok and you never faced problems with the battery life? I thought maby modifying a rival group with a ratio kit to talk to an eagle rear would be safer
@@hannorasmusholtiegel6044 I had to charge it about every 1000km. I find di2 more reliable than cables etc. although I do hear good things about the ratio setup
Impressive to cycle this far with just 6X firepot dehydrated meals and 16X Rawvelo bars. Thank you for talking through this, super useful! No eye mask for sleeping in that winter sun?
As a Norwegian, I felt insulted when you said you can't charge your stuff up when traveling around my country... We got "Freedom to roam", you is free to walk onto everybody's property and ring the door bell and ask for a power socket... on any cabin and house or farm you come across. On the countryside, like the place I live, most would let you charge up, give you a coffee while waiting and let you have a few hours of charging your battery banks ect. I'm planning a trip through Denmark and my plan is simply to ring on peoples door and ask for a charge up, maybe ask for some water fill ups and a cold beer while waiting 🤣 While in Scandinavia, use your Freedom to roam and don't feel shy asking people for a charge up. The worst that can happen is they simply ask you to leave or they are too busy. Most got time or take the time to help a traveler out. Especially something as easy as charging some power banks and flashlights and smart phones.
I suppose when I say I can’t charge is that I would rather not have to spend one looking for somewhere and then wait around for a few hours to let something charge. People are amazing yes but sometimes all I want is to get my head down and put some miles in. When racing stopping can be a distraction I don’t need :)
A bit of criticism. A better mic placement maybe. When you're talking near the mic it sounds as if your screaming, too loud. Then when you turn your head you're barely audible. Yeah kinda ruins an interesting vid
