I was Keto for a few months, and it helped me start my weight loss journey. However, I transitioned to fully carnivore diet (because I no longer wanted to eat nuts, seeds and vegetables) and honestly, I have never ever felt better. I’m happier, healthier, and no longer have cravings. In addition, this lifestyle helped me cure a couple of chronic illnesses that I struggled with for over many years. It’s incredible. I’ve never been happier.

Thank you for this content! Since using your products and removing seed oils from my diet (Dr. Paul), the chronic pain in my knees and shoulder has completely gone away! My wife who has been on your diet - we bought your cook book - she was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago and has not had a regular menstrual cycle in 3 years. After only 3 months on this diet, she has had regular cycles and her moods have balanced. Thank you for going further than most are willing to go! Also for making this information free. Keep up the great work.
@@Paulsaladinomd a few months ago we tried the carnivore diet. She absolutely hated it because being from the Philippines there is a lot of rice and fruit on a daily. About 3 months ago we followed your advice and Incorporated honey, fresh fruit, and she eats rice on occasion. And total 5 months since the start of the carnivore diet, 2 months we switched and added carbs, at that point is when her menstrual cycles came back and have not had interruptions or deviations of more than 5 days! We are trying to have children and have committed to this lifestyle change. 2 years ago they put her on metformin. The side effects are so bad that she was constantly in the bathroom, the doctor said they would not give us other options without continuing their medicine plan for up to 18 months. My wife and I decided to take a different approach and throw the pills in the trash. . . I own so much to Thomas since he got me started doing Keto about 3 years ago. My body composition improved along with my mood and I also started fasting effortlessly. I also must say that I moved to a carnivore style of eating 5 months ago and I feel and look even better than while on Keto. All my love and respect to both of these guys.

We are all so different and our needs change as we age. Overeating on junk is a huge issue. Eating too often is a huge issue. Food quality is definitely a huge issue. Being OCD with a particular diet is a huge issue. I have learnt to really pay attention to my own body. Keto works for me - I feel great and some days I can be more carnivore. I do eat some cruciferous vegetables but in small quantities; berries work for me; raw honey works for me; greek yogurt works. I have learnt to hone in on what my body tells me what it likes and I believe this to be so much more important than blindly following 1 particular diet. My journey has been fascinating and a huge part of the success is due to you guys Thomas & Paul and Eric Berg
I did the keto diet because my football coach told me to loose weight, lost the weight but also lost a lot of strength. Went on animals based diet and I’m stronger than ever, thank you Saladino!
The problem with this Video I feel was more confusing than helpful they both talk in the past about keto, fasting carnival now they're saying do this not that... So who freaking knows what's the best
BGooD Music, Your statement that carbs lower testosterone is incorrect. Quite the opposite, the lack of sufficient carbs lowers testosterone. I have the labs to prove it over years of experience, and the research is out there.
Thank you! My wife and I have been saying this for months. When we first started Carnivore (almost 6 months ago), we made the mistake of recommending him to people who were interested. None of those people even gave it a chance. Now we people to steer clear of him.
Sorry biochemistry is complicated- he is actually trying to break down even more complicated stuff into the simplistic framework most people have to reference
Great conversation, I am so happy to see some confirmation to what I just did naturally. I based on my thinking of logic or outdoorsman survival living. I have always included seasonal fruit.
@@Paulsaladinomd Animal Based vs. Keto isn’t a good comparison bro. ‘Keto’ is *outcome focused* (ketosis), and you can get there a few different ways. ‘Animal Based’ just means … majority of calories from animal foods.

Paul - I’ve watched, and enjoyed, many of your shorts on RU-vid. I’ve noticed that you simplify as much as you can during these to make the content easily digestible. Listening to this conversation between two highly educated individuals was so interesting because it was the first time that I have been able to hear you fully unload the depth of your knowledge in great detail. Amazing content. Thomas is also a class act!
I definitely respect people who are able to change their mind when they learn new information. Thank you both. I follow both of you and it was very interesting conversation.
I suffer from extreme anxiety, and I'm so out of shape that I get out of breath easily. My health anxiety is taking over and making me fear my own body and mind. I'm working with a therapist and recently told her I wanted to take control of my diet again. I did keto a few years back before having my daughter, and I've been struggling to get back to a keto lifestyle. I crave carbs too much, but I found it wasn't the traditional carbs I was craving. I started craving fruit so much during pregnancy, and I've had the cravings every since, but I, being a busy momma, have been eating a lot of processed foods along with fruits, and I just feel horrible. 😩 I'm starting the animal based diet tomorrow after getting groceries, and I'm so excited and full of hope that I can stick with this and hopefully help heal myself from the anxiety and fatigue. I'm optimistic that this will be the diet I've been dreaming about. Ex vegan turned keto, then lived a Mediterranean lifestyle up until recently when I started working full time and just got lazy with my food choices. I feel like this diet is going to reset my system and bad habits. 🤗
Aside from the obvious knowledge of course, what I really appreciate is how willing these two gentlemen are to alter courses with new information. Everyone do not have the same metabolics but I do not see a problem with having some benign carbs as long as the amount is appropriate for that individual and where they may be on their journey
Honey is a difficult one. Bees will forage opportunistically, up to 2km away from their hives. 34.5 to 35.5 degrees Celsius is the temp inside the hive and it should be ok to heat honey to that temp. Awesome, informative chat, thanks!!
More like 10k away from the hive... If you can tolerate honey it's probably fine for you the big problem is if you there are fields with pesticides within that 10k range you're definitely getting lots of pesticides in your honey
I don't have any seed oils, but if I have fruit I can't stop eating it, end up hungry all the time and get fat, lose motivation. Ketogenic for me is far better.
Interesting, I always found fruit to be very satiating as well. I eat a banana and have no craving for another, same with any other fruit really. Now grains on the other hand….
Instead of saying fruit this or that tell me all about the trash you are eating. Tell me about the amount of processed meats you are eating and tell me about the over-high fats intake from eating too many cheeses and dairy because it's the only source that will give you energy. The problem is that you are not fully satisfied from a not nutrient dense diet. Tell mr about your oh so great sugar free soda... Maybe work out harder. In the end i will respect if you choose not to eat fruits, but you should also think a bit further. What's next? It's just bad genetics?
What a great duo to have this convo. NeuroBiology info just flows out of Dr. Paul’s brain in such a way that the average Jane and Joe can assimilate this critical info for healing.
Killer pod! Would love to see a convo with you and BART KAY. He seems to continue to argue against you and I believe a face to face convo would be so informative.
@Danny B. It probably would be hard, but he’s been pretty calm on his newer RU-vid vids. He’d want to get his points out. The Commies are always watching……🥸
This was great! I wanted to see you both interact for a long time. Thomas, Paul, and Liverking has had such tremendous influence on my life and health. Thank you.
I am just slowly starting a keto diet like Carnivore md recommends. Am also looking to include Liver like Liverkind recommends... Can I ask you what does your diet look like and what benefits have you noticed so far?
I think the overeating thing is hard wired into us because food was scarce so we'd eat as much as we could whenever we could. The problem now is food is everywhere and not only that it's highly palatable and high calorie. We need will power even if you're strict Keto because fat is so calorically dense and you can store fat without the presents of insulin!
1:10:16 Here's how I see it : - whether you eat one, two are 3 meals a day doesn't really matter that much if you are healthy and eating healthy foods. But you want to leave enough time between meals to let your insulin levels come down. So you don't want to be snacking continously throughout the day - longer fasts ( like 36h and more) are like medicine. They make your body do useful stuff like autophagy, immune system renewal, etc... but it is a stress on your body and it can mess with things. So there it's better to a the longer fasts very infrequently. Like maybe you do a 36h fast once a month. Or a 3 day fast every 6 months, etc ...
The sweet spot for weightloss is 1 to 1 fat to protein ratio and 50 to 100 grams per day of carbs with 2 meals a day and 12 hours of fasting in between meals.
Absolutely great interview...I won't even say it was a debate! I learned alot from both of you about not chasing glucose and why or chasing ketones and why. I'm going to be trying the Carnivore MD's Animal Based challenge in August for a month and it'll be my first time really going all in with the fruit and honey (I'm already doing the meat and organs). The real challenge for me though will be going without extra dark stevia sweetened chocolate, red wine, coffee and tea every day, but I'm going to be prepared and that is key for me. I'm anxious to see my bloodwork at the end of 30 days.

I'm a small scale beekeeper and I've been curious to know if you're aware that oxalic acid is commonly used as a verroa mite control method? However up until recently it's use wasn't allowed with supers on (the boxes that the honey will be harvested from). This rule is being reconsidered due to verroa being so problematic to the process of beekeeping.
Hey this was awesome!! I would love to hear you have a friendly chat with people in the carninvore community like Shawn Baker, MD and Anthony Chaffee, MD who are much more staunchly believing that just animal muscle meat is the way to go. Or even Sarah Zaldivar who is more on page with you than the others. Also, still waiting for the $10/day animal based diet ;) (especially with AnimalBased30 starting in a week!!)
When I went carnivore and started buying all of the "good" cuts of meat, I was annoyed at how often they were tough, hard to chew, or with a lot of connective tissue. I even looked into trying to age my beef myself. In the meantime my dogs were loving me because they were getting all the too tough pieces. It was my wife who opened my eyes when I asked her if her cuts were just better than mine because the dogs weren't parked next to her like they were me. She surprised me but saying she ate the tough pieces and even the connective tissue. Why and how, I asked. "Because all of that stuff is good for you and it's not hard to swallow partially chewed." Ooooh! I really hadn't thought of that. Now I make sure my dogs know who's fault it is they aren't getting my "scraps" anymore.

Dr. Saladino. Thank you for mentioning the 'Dark Matter' of nutrition. That is, there is what we know, and biology is so complex that we must acknowledge that there are many things biological substances that we simply aren't aware of or of their function. I have said this for many years but never heard it directly echoed. Very validating. Interestingly, a well fed prehistoric person did not need to know all this detail, because they simply ate a normal human diet. This functionally takes care of the problem, as you pretty much state. Cheers!

Wish Tom addressed the evolutionary inconsistency of eating the AMOUNT of fruit/ honey/ maple syrup that Paul eats (no regions on the planet ate carbs in this dose, not even equatorial regions), along with how fruit nowadays is exponentially sweeter and more modified than how fruit was pre-agricultural revolution. Paul always touts fruit is the “least harmful” part of plants, but provides a small argument as to why it’s necessary or beneficial. Feel like if he upped his fats to 85% and protein down to 15% (consistent with our evolution), he wouldn’t have any problems and wouldn’t have gone the carbohydrate route. Overall, great pod episode both of you! Much respect on both sides.
I think the major benefit he finds from fruits is just that they are a good/safe carb source, in addition to being delicious and having their own unique nutrients. And I’m not sure adjusting the protein to fat ratio would dispel the problems he has with long term keto, but who knows 🤷♂️
I’m on the fence with this one too. You guys make good points. I think those of us that are still trying to reverse Hyperinsulinemia should steer clear of most fruit, sticking to the lower sugar berries and occasional grapefruit, until the conditions are healed, before diving into the insane amount of fruit and sugar Paul eats. I think it might be a case where YMMV.
Thanks so very much! You guys are like a light house in perilous waters. So interesting that things I do instinctively turn out to be logical after all. The body is smarter than I will ever be in my simple cognitive way. You guys keep illuminating the way so it makes more sense.
I think Dr Saladino overdid the organs while in carnivore, especially liver. Yes, liver is great but high in trace minerals. There are a ton of carnivores thriving who eat little to no organs and don't have the same issues

Its not a debate when all Thomas dose is agree with you when he clearly has completely different views and opinions on diet and health. Thomas is big believer in olive oil, omega 3, low carb veggies, many supplements like cucumin, but you would never know this listening to this debate, you would think Thomas has similar views to you.
I do have pretty similar views on grandiose things, But this was an interview to extract information from an expert in his field. But correct, it’s definitely NOT a debate haha
I love them both and Thomas and Paul both have helped me stop eating SAD. I also love Dr's Baker, Berry and Chaffee not all exactly the same but very similar in their messages.
Yeah, and Thomas has started villifying saturated fat lately too. He was a total yes-man during this interview too... likely because his contrary-evidence to Paul is built on a house of cards
According to Dr Sten Ekberg it is the release of insulin that triggers hunger. Insulin still available after the carbs have been processed, and as long as the insulin is high it blocks fat burning since it is a fat storage hormone.
I think if we consider seasonality and availability of fruit and veg etc, then we clearly see that for most people, there would have been ‘feast or famine’ times. So ketosis was seasonal. It would’ve occurred when the more carb rich foods were not available. When they became available, people would have feasted on them but this would have been relatively short term and confined to specific seasons. Ketosis allowed us to survive harsh winters without feeling constantly hungry. It is an extremely useful state but it was always temporary for most groups of people. If carbs were available, they ate them.
Saladino based his diet on the Hadza. But what he never acknowledges is that fruit and honey are only seasonally available for a few months. The vast majority of the Hadza diet throughout the year is entirely lacking fruit and honey. I wish someone would challenge him on this. The nutritionist Mary Ruddick talks about this and she is very familiar with the Hadza.
@@AlexiusRedwood Not true at all. Drying, burying and sugaring has been around for centuries along with canning not to mention the easiest of them all freezing over winter takes almost no prep you literally can just leave them outdoors in the winter.
When I was keto for 18 months. I had a lot Of healing. Lost all my cravings and improved my aches and pains. I did however lose a lot of hair. I went back to a bodybuilding high protein moderate carb and fat. I’m evolving away from grains and doing more fruit. I’ve cut back on veggies except I love carrots. The fruit has helped me get some weight on. Couldn’t grow much on keto.
Great conversation. Paul's depth of clinical level knowledge is impressive. He really shined in this video. Thomas always shares great info. and asks great questions.
Dr.s B. Bikman and R. Lustig might disagree with your views on glucose, fructose, chronic insulin spikes, etc. Sufficient levels of protein will provide a safe insulin "hump". Not a "spike".

We have naturally occurring canabanoid so it isn’t necessary per se, but if it helps why not. The only fear is that you could grow to rely on it potentially, even then I’m sure you could get back to baseline after sometime not taking CBD
If you mention the Inuit it's just a matter of time someone says that they had a gene that blocks ketosis and in reality they were converting fat to sugar. That is complete bullshit, if you actually read the paper about inuit genetics then even the authors themselves don't claim that Inuits weren't in ketosis. I think that lie started to spread due to pop-science journalists not being able to correctly understand what they're reading in a scientific paper, and then laymen started to repeat this.
i agree strongly about food QUALITY being so essential. Having said this, what are your thoughts on Victor Longo's Prolon foods which are at best of a questionable quality??
Both of you have changed my life. I haven’t had a chance to watch this. But top of my list. I hope you both can agree on a specific range of carbs. Lowering my glucose and insulin changed my life and body. Also I’m Irish. And was fruit available year round? To my ancestors???? I’m confused. I gotta watch this several times.
Were your "ancestors" in Ireland specifically for the past several million years through human evolution? I think you already know the answer to that part.
Common wild fruits for your ancestors would have been all kinds of berries. I agree that it differs from region to region on what different kinds of ethnicities can handle. Also, I have noticed a pattern that tropical areas (which are hot and require people to be constantly hydrated) grow bigger and more juicy fruits, which are hydrating. Conversely, colder corners of the world like Canada, Northern Europe, and northern Asia have smaller fruits. People from these areas need to be more warm than hydrated considering that they commonly have extreme winters. So, people of this ancestry are more sensitive to higher amounts of sugars.
22:57 - "I don't have all the answers. I just want to spur curiosity and conversation" - Paul Saladino For all you whiners who complain about Paul eating fruit or being "anti-keto" pay attention to what he actually says, use more logic, and stop being such a cry baby.
My rule of thumb on organs is our dietary intake should match the proportions found in the animal we're eating... If organs make up 3% by weight of the animal meat then having 3g of organs per every 100g of muscle meat is probably a good way to start.
They didn't eat whole animals. A mammoth was about 3500kg. If 50 people were in the family then in 2 days they ate 100kg of meat and 3400kg was probably left to scavengers/flies. They could pick and choose the best cuts.
@@Michal_Sobczyk first off I'm not talking about 20k years ago... No one was killing wooly mammoths 2k yrs ago. And the idea that most of humanity was living on nothing but organ meat 'cuz wooly mammoths are big' is ridiculous.
YO PAUL! What do you think about this, "The diet of the centenarians is also associated with a low consumption of fruit: especially pears and apples and many spontaneous herbs that grow on the spot." Makes me feel bad about all the fruit i eat
I do nothing but study emperical research. Fresh Real Food is best but for people who have a hard time eating hard fat, tendons and organs your supplements are the only viable alternative. I am caring for THREE very metabolically disfunctional family members. They would not drop the processed foods till they all became very sick. They watched me go keto and then carnivore. All of them have bad teeth so the supplements are essential to get them on the right track till their gums are healed enough to have dental work. Thank you!
I agree with meat fruit and honey but Why do the hadza look so malnourished? Is it because they have to hunt for their food and their isn’t always abundance? Don’t they also have a short life span?
They don’t have enough food available and their lands are being encroached upon. Also if you live in the wild long enough like that something is bound to happen to you. Likely not the food causing their short life span but rather environmental dangers
What if he hung out with the hill tribes in Thailand, would they're diet be optimal? They also live to a ripe old age (some of them)I didn't see the Hamza drink milk either or eat fruit?????
my experience in SouthEast Asia has been seeing food grills with meat being cooked on sticks above the flames (most roadways), when I asked what they were cooking, they stated it was the intestines of the animals (all kinds of animals). This is very popular throughout Southeast Asia. I guess Asians don't waste any part of the animal, basically head to tail!
"If you select those foods properly by looking at food quality and the absence of things that will destroy your metabolism or break it you can eat as much of those foods as you want, satiety will come and you will lose weight and become metabolically healthy and life is good." - Paul Saladino
