I am so glad to see mainstream Keto/Carnivore community finally coming around to Ray Peat and the importance of carbs. I found Ray Peat 5 years ago after being Paleo/Keto for 4 years and finally having a severe mental breakdown with a confirmed T3 that was negative at the end of my paleo journey. I found Ray's work and started eating fruit and was finally able to fix my "treatment resistant" depression. Ray Peat saved my life and his work continues to be a huge part of my life today.

Maybe people eat little fat and get into trouble. I still think this is the main issue. Sure you can add carbs back and feel better but people can try goarging on fat (lol!) I have to include double cream just because my appitite is low and it is a quick way of getting tons of energy. I tried adding honey but I was still feeling hungry and cold a few hours later.
First off vegan is the worst i am not putting carni down ! Carnivore feels good for a few months then you start crashing. Its not just me many have this happen. There is a simple reason. when you first go no carbs your riding high on cortisol and adrenaline, this is not good or sustainable. eventually your body has enough and things go bad. lesson learned ! I know some do well and thats awesome but its hardly the answer for everyone. The ray peat world is filled with failed carnis and vegans and often they tried both who are slowly getting their health back. I think this obsession with body fat and image is not good. Many who claim their health back will have an extra 5-20 pounds and are still super healthy and strong athletes.

I was bedridden/housebound for a near decade, due to severely dysfunctional adrenals. Last March, I went carnivore. Pain stopped, no longer walked with a cane, felt great. However, due to kidney issues, I had to start consuming coconut water - adding that and fruit made ALL the difference; especially, after going carnivore kicked me into early perimenopause, at age 34. Meat, fruit, and cheese is my favorite food combo. This is, seriously, the best “diet” ever.
So basically your ideal diet is protein fat and carbs? How is this any different from how you ate before? Are you saying that you only ok if your carbs come from fruit?

@@cholkymilkmirage4984 just following a lot of Ray Peats ideas. I was/am a gymnastics athlete and so I wanted to have a "superior" diet so I tried as many as I could the shortest one was vegan isn't which I only did for a month because joints became very weak. Then I started following Dr berg and T delaur for keto which lasted about a year. The first month felt amazing but as each month came afterwards I was presented with a new health obstacle. Then at a about the year mark I found Ken berry and Dr Shawn Baker and started going full carnivore. I believed them that it was those pesky carbs causing all my problems. But my problems cmgot even worse (insanely loud crepitus in my knees and joints, couldn't digest eggs which I was always able to prior to carnivore, couldn't sleep, low energy, the tiniest things upset me, warts all over my hands and feet, and many more) so I did that for about 3 months and then another 3 months but combined with intermittent fasting 12-16 hours a day. I finally hit the wall and collapsed. I tried a little bit of berries since they were low glycolic index and bam, my body temperature started to increase again. And thats what opened the door to Ray Peats work. I found that what helped my digestion the most was making sure I had all fat soluble vitamins K,A,D,E, and water soluble vitamins, b complex with c. Then avoiding hard to digest foods and resistant starches and just starches in general (though now I can handle them), keeping my spicy foods low, taking glycine which is an amino acids that helps a lot in reparing stomach. Sulphur powder as well like half a teaspoon with each meal really started my digestion back up. Making sure I have enough salt for digestive fluids and not limiting my sugar intake too much. Reason being it takes energy to digest and when you have a lack of energy digestion slows, endotoxin grows and a plethora of symptoms start to pop up.

TLDW Important: There is no such thing as a Ray Peat diet. It is recommend to read his articles on his website to understand in how he approached nutrition and in what ways one might implement those ideas in his own diet. 1. The topic of discussion is the differences between animal-based and the work of Ray Peat regarding Diet. 2. Georgi Dinkov is a tech industry professional with an interest in Biochemistry and the Ray Peat "philosophy". 3. The host of the podcast started with a pure carnivore diet, but has since expanded his beliefs about optimal nutrition for humans. 4. The discussion covers a range of topics including the differences between sucrose (table sugar) and high-fructose corn syrup, the impact of sunlight and electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on the body, and the role of hormones and polyunsaturated fatty acids in health. 5. Starch damages the gut and can be considered a toxin. 6. High-fructose corn syrup is a processed sugar made from corn, whereas sucrose (table sugar) is a naturally occurring sugar found in plants. 7. High-fructose corn syrup has been linked to negative health effects such as obesity and insulin resistance. 8. The speaker and Dinkov discuss the use of sugar substitutes, such as aspartame, and the potential negative effects they can have on health. 9. Sunlight is important for the production of vitamin D and for maintaining healthy levels of serotonin. 10. EMFs can disrupt the body's natural electrical frequencies and may have negative health effects. 11. Estrogen is important for maintaining optimal health in both men and women, but high levels can be harmful. 12. Polyunsaturated fatty acids can be pro-inflammatory and may contribute to chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. 13. Dinkov discusses the importance of proper digestion and the negative effects that gut damage can have on overall health. 14. Dinkov discusses the importance of proper nutrient absorption and how it can be impacted by gut damage. 15. The work of Ray Peat emphasizes the importance of carbohydrates, specifically glucose and fructose, for energy production and optimal health. 16. The work of Ray Peat also emphasizes the importance of avoiding polyunsaturated fatty acids, which can be found in vegetable oils and seed-based foods. 17. The work of Ray Peat encourages the consumption of animal-based sources of protein, as well as dairy products and cooked vegetables. 18. The work of Ray Peat suggests that low-fat, high-carbohydrate diets may be more beneficial for maintaining optimal health.
It is great to see Paul being respectful of Georgi and Ray Peat. That said, I don't have a dog in this fight, so I would like to pose the following questions to Georgi for next time, if there is a next time: 1. While Peat and Georgi's sugar-centric metabolism ideas make sense, there are facts that this paradigm cannot explain, like the spectacular health that Dr. Shawn Baker and Dr. Anthony Chaffee appear to be in, along with many of the guests on their podcasts who are also mainly carnivores. 2. What evolutionary explanation can there be for favoring sugars as fuel? It's been a longstanding talking point in carnivore circles that access to high nutrient-density meat and fat was what drove the explosive brain growth of hominids seen in the fossil record. If we reject that hypothesis, how do we explain access to sweet fruit everyday, around the year all over the world? I can speculate but I would be interested to hear Georgi's take. 3. Throughout this conversation Georgi was a bit confusing on the relationship between cortisol and serotonin. It appears cortisol upregulates tryptophan hydroxylase, which produces serotonin, but also serotonin seems to trigger cortisol. How do you get out of this vicious cycle? Short of taking anti-serotonin and anti-cortisol drugs (which have their own problems like sedation, constipation, etc.), how does one combat both these hormones? In the end, the Peat approach may be summarized as eat enough carbs, in the form of simple sugars rather than starches, to keep fueled all tissues in the body that run on glucose and meet functional needs for energy, and enough fats to keep fueled the organs that burn fats (heart, muscles at rest) and meet structural needs for fat (fats in the brain, cell membranes, steroid production), and manage this ratio such that you are not forcing the body to jump through hoops to meet these needs. This steers a sensible middle path between the fat versus carb extremism on the internet, but has the disadvantage of being more complex to implement.
@@colquest Not really. Over at the functionalps blog, there are Peat quotes that are uniformly opposed to starch, including potatoes, mainly because of the fattening and blood sugar disbalancing effects of starch. But in certain circumstances he would ok potato consumption, for instance as a decent protein source for vegetarians.

It sounds like you were eating way too little fat. If you lower your carb intake and you're lean, you better increase the fat intake considerably or you run into the issues you described. But that's probably not what you wanted to hear. 😉
@@kimberlylloyd5313 Presuming Chronometer is accurate you would have to have plenty energy, unless you're have a high metabolism or work out a lot. Instead of carbs you could try to add lots of butter to your diet, maybe a stick a day. If your body is fat adapted and you provide your body with enough saturated fatty acids you should be ok, and thriving. If that's not the case there might be a problem with your liver, insufficient bile production, or problems with your bile ducts, maybe. Maybe have that checked. I've seen many of Paul's followers getting into trouble again after following his new fruit and honey gospel after long periods of doing great on a (real) carnivore diet. Awesome interview. I am a periodontist and I see bone loss around teeth in extreme keto athletes, now I think it must be the cortisol and thyroid effects
I'd also wager that overall systemic acidity plays a role as well. We know the body keeps a tight reign on balanced pH in the blood and throughout, and one way it puts out fires when there's too much acid present is leeching minerals from teeth and bones.
I feel vindicated by this research on T2D. I had a traumatic experience after my sister passed and went into flight mode for YEARS, elevating my cortisol and eventually leading to insulin resistance and T2D. Left Carnivore years ago and Ray Peat inspired healed me. I love Danny Roddy and Georgi. This video got me excited about my health again since the plandemic when everyone went crazy.
I have been fascinated by Peat’s work & the work of some of his “followers” (like Georgi and others) for several years but I struggle with what to do with the information. It’s so complex and there simply is no prescribed path to follow. As a lay person with several health challenges to overcome it’s very overwhelming.
I watched every episode of the Generative energy podcast on Danny Roddys RU-vid and surfed the Ray Peat Forum, and it took about 3 months to fully wrap my head around it. Truth be told, you can learn all of the dietary guidlines and implement them without understanding all of the reasons behind them. I don't understand all the reasons I do what I do, I just know the simplicity of, for example, at least 30% of my protein should be collagen, best at the same time as regular protien, in order to balance out the inflammatory effect of regular protein. Also, keep your calcium intake slightly above your phosphorus intake, and take vitamin D, to suppress parathyroid hormone, because parathyroid hormone leads to a bunch of bad things. I dont understand everything behind these guidlines, but I don't need to. Just watch the Generative Energy podcast from beginning, and you'll get it in time. There are no short cuts.
Keep it very simple. Ray Peat is not all about the food, it's also about your reaction to your environment. Keep life as stress-free as possible, get lots of sun and enjoy meaningful things. His podcasts are worth listening too.
I love hearing from people with so muh instant recall for in-depth and complex topics, such as the cascading effects certain hormones have on the body. It's a refreshing change from carnivore cultists who think the only cycle that exists in the human body is the Randall cycle.
Thank you for this talk. I needed it today. Now I have some researching to do to restructure my diet. I was convinced to go carnivore by you in 2019. It does work....until it doesn't. I feel this to my bones. My ferritin has always been low, but I'm starting to think that we're fixated on something that might not matter. I ate Peatarian for a stretch, but my digestive system was not healthy at that time, and I went downhill pretty fast following the Peat guidelines. Once I have a better handle on my digestion, I'll give Peat another chance. My thyroid, A1C and liver have been perfect eating up to 2000 calories a day from fruit last 13 years. Eating anything fatty with sugar causes blood sugar issues, especially HFCS and seed oil combos, but regular old butter and sugar together can do it too. Its best to eat sugars and fats separate, so end the day with your fatty/protein meal and breakfast and lunch be caloric dense fruit meals with added cane sugar as needed. When fat is not thickening up the blood stream, the sugar can be taken to the cells and is a preffered source of fuel. We dont have sweet taste buds on tip of our tongue and enjoy sweet food for no reason. If you are really ill, sometimes completely removing animal foods temporarily and keeping fat lower than say 20g a day, and 10g if you are obese, will be most beneficial for correcting blood sugar and thyroid issues, just have to then make sure to eat enough calories from fruit (ripe bananas and dates will be your best friends). That along with adequate sleep, sunshine, glute and leg focused strength training (hello hip thrusts) and water. Im living proof sugar and fruit does not cause blood sugar issues.

I crashed and burned bad after 2 years and still kept pushing it. It took me nearly a year to get back to good after that. Every one is different.
@@philipwilliams456 Yes everyone is different. 7 years for me and I'm still at the best in my life. So is my spouse. We both went from high fasting glucose and high AIC's to perfect for both. So when he said in the video you would be diabetic in 5 years we just laughed so hard. 7 years here and no wall.
@@Herps1 I'm glad that you are doing well. Are you low stress individuals? When I got stressed on keto/carnivore I got crazy carb cravings and could feel myself deteriorating. If i had very low stress, I could see it working for a long time.
Very interesting! I wish that Georgi had a better microphone though bcs he talks so fast plus uses lots of technical language and it's really difficult to hear some words. I might have to watch this on 0.75 speed.🤣
what a great conversation. please do another one , more about fasting, Georgi is saying that intermitten fasting is not so good, the fasting window should be longer like 10-12 hours. Also about gelatine - Sally Norton is saying that gelatine is full of oxalic acid, so if we eat 2-3 spoons of gelatine daily - getting lots of oxalic acid .... Please clarify this
I've been to over 40 of Sally's classes bcs I have an oxalate toxicity issue. Gelatine doesn't contain any oxalates BUT it has amino acids that can convert to oxalates, especially if you are low in B1 and B6. She says that it's generally safe to consume a tbsp of collagen OR a cup of bone broth a day.🌞
Wow! This answered so many questions I didn't even know I had. And yes, SSRI's are bull. In my brief experience on them a decade ago, I was more numb and anhedonic. Thanks Paul and Georgi.
This is really excellent. I wish it would have been just broken down via Paul into more Laymans terms so that we can really understand the significance of everything.
"I survived on low carb for like 11 months. I dont know anyone else who made it past 12 months without a medical intervention" -Georgi Really hits back home. I did low carb and fasting for 3 years coupled with extreme endurance exercise (casually running a 10k every morning before starting my day). I became skinny fat, lost all muscle and collapsed one day during a run. Turns out my heart muscles were also gradually dissolving. I developed a chewing-and-spitting type of eating disorder, chewing on pounds of carb-rich foods every single day before spitting them out again, as to not ingest them. Man, I was a mess. Glad to be out of that state again. And yes, I did gain all the weight back PLUS extra. But I'm working on it again, this time much more knowlesgable thx to Peat's work
@ritakilicci4897 First let me say, I'm glad you are better now. I know what you are saying is true. It seems like most of the people in the comments are so stuck the speaker's size they aren't really hearing what he is saying. Being thin and losing weight does not equal healthy. I know a share of people that looked healthy and are now no longer here. And not all people are slender some are athletically built. He may be is his own recovery phase. People don't realize restriction is restriction to the body. Our bodies are made to survive. It doesn't know a diet versus you bring stranded in the desert. And yes when the scale is going down you are losing muscle as well. Organs are muscles. Bones do deteriorate. If you look into the research on eating disorders or starvation it's all there but no one wants to believe it. But I've seen it first hand. Recovery from any restriction can take from about 4 months to as much as 7 years depending on how long the person restricted and that's without any further restriction and refeed. But most people in society don't make it that long to fully go through their recovery because the comments of others make the person go back into restriction. Again I'm glad to hear you made it through and now you're on the other side.
Actually animals with higher metabolisms live longer on average, perfect example of this is the hummingbird, eats mostly sugar and has insane metabolism for its size, eats more than other birds its size and lives a lot longer than other birds, the more calories you can digest the better, not saying to start eating everything you can but appetite is a great marker for overall health
@@tanyasydney2235 cold blooded, needs to eat less. Spends a lot of time in hibernation as compared to mammals and birds, hibernation slows down thyroid function and overall metabolism. They actually eat a lot during summer months when energy expenditure is high.
Wow I am going to need to watch this a few times. To add to the exercise part. I picked up on this resistance training style called HIT from Jay Vincent. Where you train a muscle to failure in one set with a slow tempo about once a week and you are already maximizing growth. Training 6 days a week is unnecessary and has all of the negative side effects you mentioned. I been doing this training for about 3 months and making gains without feeling like I am rushing to get my workouts in and lowered my risk on injury. I realize now I had an unhealthy habit with the gym where I was lifting for the mental benefits I felt but I was also cranking my cortisol and making it hard to sleep and recover due to over training. Then I would get injured and depressed because I can't lift. What a vicious cycle that was. Thank you both for your hard work!
@@fedegroxo Jay brings him up all the time. He gives credit that's where he got his training style from. I only don't bring up Mike specifically because the recordings of him are older and less distilled so its a tall ask to recommend looking him up to people.
Where did Dinkov got his nutrition or medical related degree ? he seems kind a sounds like a snake oil salesman, or supplement salesman guy. They have easy 4 steps. 1. ) Bombard you with all these information. 2.) Make you confuse with all these information. 3.) Create a self doubt 4.) Sell you supplement. That's it Bingo! you have been confused, next thing you know you are ordering their supplement. Instead of taking control of your health with no meds and supplement what will happen is you will be hook on them.
Cancer is a metabolic disorder that screams from the top of the disease pyramid. First comes "pre diabetes" and then there is a domino affect. This information is right up my alley. I have been studying research because my health team were only following preset protocols, ie Standard of Care. Using intermittent fasting, low carbs diets , low stress exercise that need to be understood and used in specific context. Today is Dec 20, 2022, I am in rural Mexico. All the family gatherings are shocked at how well I am looking. I try to explain the basics to a group that clearly is mostly metabolically disfunctional with 30% in full blown T2D on metformin and/or insulin. I conducted my own nutritional studies on my own mice. I am a statician by trade, so I scrutinize research papers and take data critically. I have had to struggle with doctors consumed by Standard of Care. I do understand we do not understand the complexity of the human body. We do not necessarily understand labs and the interactions chemically. While here in this rural area of Mexico I see the life that existed in America 150 ago. Family and socializing is paramount so the health benefits are tremendous. Yet the infiltration of crap in fake food exists alongside Real unprocessed foods harvested that day in the morning. The current mentality which comes from America is that everyone needs to eat 6 or 8 times a day, mostly seed oils and highly processed wheat products and no commitment to steady low impact exercise has created a health crises. Remembering that everything is contextual there are processes that need to be moved through in stages. I looked at the snapshot of my life....In the past 24 months I broke my back, then serious spinal surgery, then Covid lockdown, working at home in a high stress tech job 6 days a week, 14 hours a day, Covid 4 times, had a terrible adverse reaction to the vac, losing my only grandchild and my best friend I reached a metabolic crises. Gross inflammation brought me to the place where I could not control my body any more. My doctors were shocked that I developed numerous tumors immediately when the inflammation maxed. I had to work very hard to get them to work with me. I did have a breast lumpectomy and surgery on my left eye to remove a breast tumor and an eye tumor. The radiation therapy caused massive inflammation where I deteriorated into a horrific idiopathic arthritis. I immediately went to fasting, eliminated all PUFAs. Consumed a high % animal fat, meat based, lots of eggs with the goal to correct my fatty liver. The idiopathic arthritis would not back down till I went on prednisone, SHORT TERM. As my very congested lungs heal I pushed myself to walk. I literally could barely walk two houses down at first now I can hike up hill and walk 10 miles. I desperately researched photon accelerator s and bolus usage and stopped the radiation when it had already gone beyond reasonable on Grys. Of course my Oncologist and radiologist beat me up and labeled me a non compliant patient when I merely asked for the research that showed for a person in my condition should be exposed to so much radiation. My body , at this time, cannot tolerate to wander from the Carnivore diet concerning ANY wheat based products. I never had a problem with dairy till in became massively inflamed. I love raw fresh dairy. In this little rural Mexican town I can milk cows and goats that free range on multiple wild plants. I can milk them and drink the milk before it deteriorates. I tried 36 oz of goat milk and the idiopathic arthritis ramped up immediately. I can eat a few fruits such as mango and papaya and guava. My body is telling me I need to wait and heal. It's more important that I be able to excercize, when I eat dairy the inflammation rises to the point of crippling me with idiopathic arthritis, to build muscle mass and bone that I have lost over the past 2 years. I push my doctors to do specific lab tests to test for inflammation, but they are very reluctant citing they do not want to order labs they dont understand. I so appreciate the focus on inflammation here. I have doctors who as a whole clearly NOT understand inflammation.
Based on Georgi and Ray Peats research fasting, IF, and low carb worsen metabolic health. Constantly relying on adaptive stress hormones to regulate blood sugar negatively effect thyroid health and wreak havoc on hormones and everything metabolism. Blood sugar regulation is part of the way out of inflammation
I too went to rural Mexico this year to heal from insane neurodegenerative illness, and ended up being where I discovered carnivore and true recovery. I totally agree that rural Mexico is like America was 150 years ago. It’s the most powerful place I’ve ever experienced!
Thank you very much for your comment, very inspirational 🙏 I'm also dealing with similar health issues and have read that red meat promotes tumor growth, in your own research, can you share your opinion on this? Do you think it's more the hormones used on conventional cows and not the meat itself, especially if it's organic and grass-fed? Thanks in advance.
Next episode with Georgi please cover: Coffee/caffeine Regular milk/dairy (for those who can’t afford/obtain raw milk) Secondary hypogonadism (eating testicals wouldn’t fix this issue since it’s pituitary) and how to raise LH & FSH in men Trt- beneficial if naturally low levels can’t be raised with diet?
As the soon to be 40 year carnivore, I know from experience that when I was stressed for years taking care of my parents, I added body fat despite not changing my diet. Once my mom died within months I lost bodyfat and returned to the size I was before the stress.
cortisol is a powerful anomaly. I mean it has the power to increase fat storage hormone. That says a lot about why you need to take measures to control it. And yeah I seen your interview with Camaradarie. Very inspiring listening to your story
@@RandomHuTaoSimp Lifestyle is probably as important to long life as diet. I see how birds lower in the pecking order have health issues despite eating the same diet as those on top.
I found Ray Peat thanks to some bodybuilding podcast that made fun of him when Dr. Saladino started dabbling with honey and I've never felt better! Great to see Paul making amends 👍
I've tested a diet of mainly lean beef, orange juice, rice and semi skinned milk against the same but full fat milk and the difference is really large for me. I feel happier and get regular morning wood on the full fat milk. The difference was a surprise, happened the very next day I switched the milk, and continued.
Glad to hear that cooked rice (or cooked potatoes) with saturated fat added is OK. I need some carbs (otherwise my electrolytes drain out), and I'm not a big fruit fan, as it gives me a headache.
Potatoes & pickled onions (onions soaked in white vinegar/water), with a dressing of coconut cream & mustard, is absolutely divine. I used to eat a huge bowl of this daily and never gained weight from it.
Looking forward to part 2! You guys didn't talk about iron that much, and hoping to hear more about Ray Peat and his ideas too in the next part. Btw, maybe having Kyle Mamounis on the podcast one day would be an interesting conversation too.
Georgi: "I don't know anyone who has done keto more than a year." Hmm, maybe you need to get out more, my dude-there are plenty of people thriving long term on keto. I can't help but roll my eyes at Paul at how the keto topic is handled on this channel. In his past videos on "why ketosis is dangerous," Paul never goes into depth-or even mentions-many of the potential benefits of being in ketosis. If I recall correctly, he mentions keto might be good for children with epilepsy, and that's about it. Come on-there is a lot more potentially good stuff going on with keto. If you're going to continually claim you're a "truth seeker" and that you try to remain open-minded, then at least consider the opposing arguments thoroughly. Volek and Phinney have interesting insights into the cortisol issue and athletic performance and the keto effects on lean tissue. Paul has mentioned concern over thyroid issues while on keto-this has been addressed by Volek and Phinney and others as well, but he never mentions their points of view. Nora Gedgaudas or Stephanie Keto Person might have a thing or two to say about doing keto long term. How about Dr. Dan Bikman? Dom D'agostino? So when Georgi says/implies that the human brain craves glucose so much that it cranks cortisol into overdrive and eats all your wittle muscles and-oh no!-you're going to wither away, I just laugh. Come on-it's general knowledge that the human brain can get around 75% of its energy demands met by ketones. And if I remember correctly, Nora Gedgaudas mentioned, in a presentation at the Ancestral Health Symposium, that blood flow to the brain increases by about 30% on a ketogenic diet. Is that not a worthy topic to explore or ever mention? I think the Ray Peat stuff is definitely interesting. Those like Danny Roddy make interesting points about why someone might want to burn sugar as a primary fuel source. However, if you're going to argue in favor of sugar, you can't just dismiss keto on some juvenile argument like keto raises cortisol and you just waste away. There is such a large body of evidence that disproves this. You have to give the opposing side it's due weight. The same rule should hold true for keto advocates; you can't just dismiss sugar as some diabetes- and cancer-inducing substance, as all sugars are not created equal and the context in which you eat those sugars seems to matter.
Ketones have benefits but you can get them while sleeping. The appetite suppressant effects of low carb will likely result in a lowered metabolic rate due to reduced calorie intake and lowered thyroid. Using glucose for energy produces more CO2 which helps increase energy production and oxygenate the cells as well as being a potent antioxidant
@@BillyRubinIII I know what the basic arguments are for the Ray Peat way of eating. The point of my comment wasn't to push keto but to point out the lopsided discussions of sugar vs. keto. Both WOEs likely have their potential benefits and pitfalls. I just roll my eyes when someone dismisses ketosis as a valid way of eating by repeating some debunked myth, like "oh, your brain needs glucose!" or "ketosis is just starvation." "Ketones have benefits but you can get them while sleeping"-maybe, but you probably get way more benefits overall by following a ketogenic lifestyle. "The appetite suppressant effects of low carb will likely result in a lowered metabolic rate due to reduced calorie intake and lowered thyroid"-Volek and some others I've listened to have studied the effects of a low carb diet on thyroid. I think it was Volek who did some study and found that even though some thyroid markers went down (I believe he said T3), overall metabolic rate remained the same. He concluded that the thyroid worked more efficiently in ketosis.
Thank you, my exact sentiments. People are too easily swayed by biochemical pathway jargon when 99% of the audience doesn't understand a word that's being said. For all we know, he might be wrong 50% of the time. Even being 95% correct, that 5% might mean completely opposite conclusions. That's why we try to do studies to confirm stuff, and even most of the studies are just waste of time or worse. Saying that a keto diet makes a prediabetic to become fully diabetic is just completely false. There was some good stuff there also
The title is a misnomer the so called “Ray Peat diet” is basically an animal based diet. But there also isn’t a Ray Peat diet. There’s a man and his research you make dietary choices based on principles and how they apply to you.
Gosh, it all sounds so good and sciency. But here I am 5 years keto, 3 of them carnivore, and I'm building muscle at 43, sleeping wonderfully, cortisol is normal. Never felt better. Never looked better. Never performed better. All the science in the world can't argue with my results, which this guy says don't exist. Not saying there's no good information here. I'll probably listen to this at least twice. But some of his assertions just ain't so.
@@getalonghome If you are eating tons of protein as a carnivore then it's a high glucose diet, a lot of that protein is being converted into glucose, for sure.
The conversation should include the fact that HFCS is largely GMO and is also full of Monsantos glyphosate and all its damaging effect to the human body.
No offense but my rule number one is “who do you listen to”. This person does not look healthy himself. Why would I get his advice on a diet from him. He talks about keto crash and muscles wasted and all that but his look proves that whatever he is presently doing is far from optimal.
Georgi has gone through a lifetime of stress before discovering ray peat, Look at how sharp Georgi’s mind is. Just because he isn’t lean shouldn’t discount his knowledge.
Well, Georgie is clearly brilliant, and quite inspiring, he nevertheless does have an Achilles heel or blind spot, which is the translation and cohearing of all of his profound insights, like a thousand fragments, into a total holistic bottom line which ordinary mortals who are interested in lifestyle maximization can benefit by. If not, he, then it is your responsibility to collate and distill these insights into a simple workable form of life practices. Thank you
For the Randle cycle, palmitic acid and stearic acid can block fatty acid oxidation and increase PDH thus improving sugar metabolism while pufa increases cortisol (without the need ACTH), interfere with oxygen utilization and the electron transport chain thus lowering the NAD+/NADH ratio thus increasing beta oxidation. Saturated fat is the only fat that not only does not interfere with sugar metabolism but also improve it, but this is assuming lipolysis and stress hormones are already under control, so a very low fat diet can be therapeutic, as demonstrated by Kempnr's white rice diet. Also Georgie should have added that fat is important for digestion, in general, especially slowing things down for a stable digestion while keeping the intestines clean.
@@epickiller30 None. And I burn every kcal of it thanks to a high activity level and healthy basal metabolism. Rest days it is mostly protein and fat only.
This gentleman seems most wise… listening intently. No judgement here, yet it concerns me to hear someone speak so clearly about diet and be seemingly overweight. I’m trying to digest this information, yet having a difficult time getting past the visuals. It just reminds me of men from the past telling woman what to do and how, while they almost always appeared opposite.
Not everyone is stick thin or an ideal BMI according to what is being pushed. Think of athletes that are mostly muscle. (Not all) They look big to someone else and by BMI they're "obese." Slender does not equal healthy. There are broad built people. You can however see the muscle in his shoulders as he talked. Obviously we can't see below the camera and I'm not debating your perspective. Just a thought.
I'm guessing your life is nothing more than one opportunity to Virtue signal after another. you creepy effeminate imposter. Your comment is doing nothing but giving language to worthless emotion and is irrelevant the discussion between either men on screen
Georgi is legit. A true wealth of knowledge about ray peat and his ideas. His health journey started after a lot of stress in his life which is what ultimately led him to ray peats ideas. He hasn’t been in pristine health his entire life to have the physique he might have had had he not gone through a life time of stress and inflammation. His co-podcast host Danny Roddy on the generative energy podcast looks great fwiw.
I consider myself open to new concepts in health, always leaning in to pathways of thriving. I have been keto/low carb and practicing intermittent fasting for six years and look and feel great. I hear about the cortisol challenge, but I don’t know that I’ve experienced it for myself. I don’t have any of the symptoms of Cushing’s disease . Please post the studies or a book title on this topic. I have always supported my liver, perhaps that is why I I am able to thrive. I also only needed to lose about 20 pounds. Perimenopause. I did not start out as a diabetic or obese.
It's wild when folks like Ken Berry say 'when I add carbs to my diet, I gain weight' and completely disregard the fact that they're adding calories because it's identical to someone saying, 'when I add fat to my diet, I gain weight.' If he simply scaled the fat back just enough to account for the added carbs, he would remain weight stable...calories matter :)
Some people have low tolerance for fat. Keto makes me feel sick and I gain weight within days. Low fat is perfect for my body. Calories matter, but so does the source.
Extremely knowledgeable, maybe too knowledgeable but for experts. Highly technical. Not for the general public. I wish Dr. Saladino would condense and summarize. Thank you anyway.
So, I don't think we should relate a but of fat with bad health. There's some argument that a bit of fat could be good for the immune system. Frailty is dangerous as you age. Being thin doesn't equal health, nor does too low body fat percentage. I do think it's all about balance. My grandma is in her late 80s, very active, very healthy mentally and overweight.
Dr Saladino, I assume that you are aware that your videos are being watched by many people abroad, Non-English mother tongue. Therefore it would help some of us understand what you guys are saying if you could SPEAK SLOWER. Particularly Georgi Dinkov, who has a lot of interesting things to share, however, SPEAKS TO FAST and DOES NOT ARTICULATE. Thanks for your understanding!
I've been keto since 2018. I did keto and fasting. I hit a wall in 2019. I stopped fasting and increased my *animal fats to about 200g per day. Been fine ever since. My recent LetsGetChecked A1C is 4.78. HDL in the 50s. LDL around 180s. Triglycerides in the 60s. What am I missing?
Georgi says that after 5 years everyone on low carb/keto becomes diabetic. And yes, I heard many say that this indeed happened to them after a couple of years. BUT!! There are also tons of people that this doesn't happen to. People that have been low carb/keto for decades! I'm interested in how this can be the case? Why is it so different for different people? And the ones that are successful long term on low carb diets don't have high cortisol or wonky hormone profiles. I would really like to hear what Georgi thinks about that. It seems like he turns a blind eye to all of those people.
Hello Cammi, I've seen your comments on various videos while exploring different diets and perspectives on nutrition. I'm curious to know if you've found a diet that benefits your health. Lately, I've been feeling a bit confused and thought it would be interesting to hear another's perspective on what they have found as someone who have also been searching and open to hear so many perspectives
Why brush over the starch conversation…Paul you eat plantains which are quite starchy but don’t recommend any other starches?? Not that people are eating raw potatoes. So what’s the difference??
As we all know, after watching Jason Fung, there was 1 contestant in Biggest Looser who didn't balloon back up in weight. It was the one who did full fasting due to his operation.
Paul, No question about it, if you don't make a separate video distilling and clarifying Georgie's foreign language, you will have wasted much time and energy and deprived many people of valuable information which they need to implement in their lives. Whether Georgia lives or dies, the ball is now in your court.
