Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the first new mainline Animal Crossing game in SEVEN YEARS, arrives on March 20th 2020. I, Tim Rogers, can't wait to play it. LITERALLY-so rather than wait to play it, I went ahead and reviewed it now. Oops!
NOTE: this video is at 24 frames per second! that's not my fault. i don't know whose fault it is, though it's probably not mine. too late to change it now, unfortunately!!!
I was going to say Tim, what is this like weird Christopher Doyle slow-motion shit you’re experimenting with hahah. I thought it was completely deliberate.
Watching this video as part of the extended Tim Rogers cinematic universe after watching all of Action Button season one opens up whole new layers to the experience
This has to be why he's such a fan of Kojima. I don't think Tim wants to make games anything like Kojima's games, but I do suspect he wants to make games that are as personal as Kojima's games; as idiosyncratic representative of their lead designer's unique worldview, warts and all.
"An Animal Crossing game getting an 8/10 from a mainstream publication would not be THE weirdest thing to happen in 2020" - boy howdy did Tim ever nail it by accident
I am hype for New Horizons'es. Animal Crossing is my favorite choring simulator to enjoy with a morning cup of coffee as I slowly awaken to a new day full of possibility. Animal Crossing sits in an important pantheon of games that have impacted me beyond just "having a good time", sitting alongside Celeste (inspiration to try new things and push forward through failure) or Earthbound (that friends can be made by opening up yourself to the possibility).
The part about Stardew Valley being the food truck in Singapoore that has a Michelin star is the reason for why I would watch a 30 minute video about a game I will probably not play.
Tim really doesn't like it when you say that. If you can't respect his co-workers as much as he does, you could at least respect him by keeping that to yourself. You can share your love of Tim Rogers without putting others down.
@@Crusader1089 I hate narcing and telling people this, but its important to me that people aren't mean for no reason here - so thanks for doing it for me. :) @ke she - It's probably better to just say "i like you tim" instead of slagging off his friends and workmates while trying to compliment him. Your choice though, of course
@@cipher893 tims issue wasn't with people not giving his friends praise, his issue is with people slamming his friends while trying to compliment him. There is a big difference
What Tim Rogers could not have possibly predicted is the terrible global situation that would be transpiring during the first months of Animal Crossing's existence. This totally strangled out any possible room for Animal Crossing to have a 'its not that good' moment.
Sorry to necro, I just wanted to engage with someone instead of posting into the void! So, I feel it HAS had that moment, if it isn't having that right now. I very much like the game, and I played it nearly non-stop at first because I startes 2 months of unpaid leave from work right when it came out. I love the rolling, free updates, but it hit me soon enough how much is missing from this game. It has the POTENTIAL to be the best, but currently, it feels like they sold us into early access. Allow me to explain. Multiple classic furniture sets aren't in the game and, if not tied to a specific season, I don't know when to expect their inclusion (the Modern set, to name one). Crafting is great but I got tired of breakable tools real quick, wouldn't mind some indicator a tool is near death to smooth that out. We received updates for swimming and dream towns, but we still don't have Gracie, a cafe, or more than a single shop upgrade. I can only hope more upgrades are coming sooner, rather than later, to sell more furniture items per day and open up a space for Leif and Labelle to make a permanent shop, and stop wasting days where Redd or Gulliver/Gullivarr could be visiting. I have faith it will come, but as it stands, you can make a sound argument for New Leaf being a better package.
@@donnylurch4207 yeah, I hear all those complaints, tbh I still haven't paid off my house loan, but I don't think that it's had quite as dramatic a moment. For the most part it feels like it's some relatively mild complaints about the game verses a whole 'moment' where everyone decided it wasn't as good as we initially thought.
@@seanwood5550 Right, that makes sense. From day 1 I was suspicious of the lack of features like swimming and the art gallery, but that first big update that added those in gave me faith they'll keep the updates coming. It'll get there!
Its worth noting for people that aren't aware; that this is almost definitely because of the new gross 'great hill partners' ownership of Kotaku. It is not because tim doesn't love the work of his fellow employees, the tone of Kotaku articles or the editorial decisions of jason etc. It's not because they're too "woke" or any crap like that -.It's based in a concern that the new rich-boy venture capital ownership are seeking to destroy the unique voice and tone of Kotaku articles/videos, that the writers & editors have worked so hard to build over the last few years. Many Kotaku employees are now unionised, and they're still doing fantastic work & fighting the new ownership in the ways that they can. it's purely just the new CEO-level corporate ownership that people have issue with, and them alone. Google deadspin & spanfeller or read Gita & Rivera's goodbye article if you're interested in learning more :)
@@Cerberus4982 ^ Having said all that, have a read of what the journalists themselves have to say as they obviously know far more than i do twitter.com/gmgunion?lang=en
Tom Nook gives you a fully interest free loan. He then gives you even larger interest free loans whenever you get around to paying him back. If he is a critique of capitalism, he is not a particularly good one.
Tim Rogers was already OP in version 11.0 after the Dragon Quest review, and they still decided to buff him in the Animal Crossing patch? His sheer energy is causing framerate issues now.
I was a child and understood how to manipulate money in the game's stock market. When games like Wild World introduced online play, it introduced me into foreign stock trading. I was making millions. I, however, do not (currently) have a million dollars in real life by manipulating foreign stock trades... yet. So yes, kids understand the capitalism side of this series.
@Sky Gravity If you didn’t like the video, then why did you watch 30 minutes of it? That makes zero sense lol I gotta disagree with you though, Tim Rogers makes some of the best videos about games on RU-vid! The humor and editing are great but the content in these video essays is really unique and is super fun to watch and listen to. Really looking forward to the FF7 prereview and hopefully a 7 hour FF7 remake review in April :D
I do love the Nintendo Switch, it got me back into Zelda and It introduced me to franchises like Xenoblade Chronicles and Fire Emblem, and in a month or so Animal Crossing 🙂
@@RashidMBey There are some parts where the framerate is cut down in some way. Watch carefully from :15 to :18. It does it kind of a lot. It's not a bad thing it's just peculiar.
You shouldnt feel bad for breaking character, As awesome as your character is. Breaking the fourth wall, or i guess in this case the character,s veil. Is the beauty.
Tim, are your round glasses a subtle nod/tribute/passing reference/easter egg to William Gibson? I was watching your Cyberpunk 2077 video and you talked about using a typewriter as Gibson did and then showed that signature jacket and now I’m like....all the pieces of the puzzle are coming together.
Dude, when your voice cracked at the beginning you sounded like Shaggy going through puberty. Lol I can't believe I made it through a 30 minute long ramble about Animal Crossing... and I want more! (Also, Pocket Camp isn't that bad. There's actually a ton of cute furniture that I hope gets into New Horizons.)
I wasn't sure what to think of this guy until the part where the Chopin funeral march starts playing while he discussed being temporarily banned from Twitch. You won me over.
Tim. Don't use your mobile phone on your motor cycle. I paused the video to tell you this. We enjoy you way to much for you to be getting up to those kinds of shenanigans.
Kotaku what are you doing just give him a 24/7 stream. Justin.tv may not have succeeded following Justin Kan around but he just wasn't as interesting as this god of a man you have right here
I never got why tom nook became the face of the series. Hes on so much of the merch. Like, i thought he was supposed to be the worst one lol. I dont want him on a keychain. When i think of animal crossing im trying not to think about him. I guess now we're supposed to like him?
