The amount of effort on this is astounding I hope you continue to enjoy making these videos! And get many more subscribers along the way! I have a video request can you make a video series's for Fusion from zero to hero! I'd love to follow along and watch you
Thanks for your comments. It did take a bit of effort to put everything together, but I definitely have a lot of fun making it. Thanks for the request. I will see if I can come up with some fun ideas for getting started with Fusion.
Thanks for your efforts. That guidance on dashed lines is so elegantly simple, and what I needed. That was an amazing bit of lateral thinking to figure out how to do that.
This video contained a lot of what I need to learn for my current video. Your pace and the movement on the screen to illustrate what you were teaching was just about right for me. Thank you for your EFFORT!
William, I bet it took a lot of effort to assemble a group of smart people in your audience. The techniques are simple but very useful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and creativity.
@@WilliamJusticeMedia Welcome and you really deserve all the appreciation.... And I live in New Delhi, currently, things are not so quite good here with so many cases daily but still trying to cope up..... Thanks for asking!!
Some of the best basic edits, yet so useful for almost any edit. It's like a mini tutorials that teaches you how to editing vs just copying other peoples fusion compositions. Well done like all the other tutorials.
Great video William! Thanks for the shoutout! I played around with the path maps for the text node a bit, I like how easy it is to make dashed lines with it. I like the idea of using Webdings to change the dashes. That’s a great idea.
Thanks... This one took a bit to put together. I did have a quick question for you. Not sure if it is a resolve thing or something with my computer, but in fusion... sometimes...when I make property adjustments (ex changing the position on path for the text path)....the viewer just goes blurred while I am making adjustments, then clears up as soon as I stop making the adjustment. Do you have this issue very much?
@@WilliamJusticeMedia I've seen that on other people's videos, but I don't experience it. Is your Memory Configuration maxed out in the System Preferences? Mine is set to 12 and 9 for Resolve and Fusion. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Im on a pretty old macbook for most of my tutorial recordings. Does it happen all the time, or only when your screen recording?
yesterday a need that, and before looking this video i saw like other 4 and they complicated way to mucho for what it really was in your video, thank you
This is the funniest video you've ever made ! You are very creative :) Thanks for sharing all this, I learn so much things ;) Can't wait to see what's coming next year on your channel ^^
Thanks! those are great tips Having a live audience is a big step up 😂 Loving the goofiness in this one. Your virtual set made me realize you look a bit like Captain Disillusion (in his human form)
I've watched a few of your videos now and I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to make them. Im always learning something new from watching them.
Hey Nic, Thanks so much for your comments. I appreciate the feedback. Glad you are learning... I am learning to ... Just learning and making videos as I go.
Thanks... I wanted to make the backgrounds, but did not really have enough time. For this video, i only made one. The background you see in the first question at time: 1:10....It was pretty simple. I was going to show how I made it, but the video was already getting a bit long.
Two things got me to subscribe. Fantastic videos and you wearing a Pearl Beer shirt on this video. Show creativity and talent in your videos and good taste in beer. I'm old so I may not remember how good Pearl tasted but I do remember I drank a lot of them.
Hi Joe, Thanks so much ....I love the Pearl Beer shirt. I drank my share of Pearl as well, but it has been a very long time! for some reason... I am thinking it was probably not as good as I remember.... And I don't remember it being that great!!! LOL....But I got the shirt!!! Thanks for watching!
Hi, yup,, wish there was a better way, but this is pretty easy, plus there are also lots of other characters/text you can use to create different looks.
@@WilliamJusticeMedia ❤️ This is much better than adding couple of nodes on top of each other. Can't we link the parameters such that the lines fill appropriately and resisze accordingly 🤔
Thanks... It does take a little bit to get used to fusion. Really you just have to try a few simple things out and the build on that. Once you get how it is structured ... its just a matter of becoming familiar with different nodes/effects.
For the travel map wouldn't it be easier to use the "Write on" parameter on the text? It's also a way to avoid the concave curve at the tip of the line due to the mask. And dashes would appear on full, which is a style choice, but could look like 'footsteps'.
Yup, write on would have definitely been easier. I was trying to get something else working using the other path, but it did not work out, so i just kept it in there!
Thanks for watching! For the effects, I really just get an idea of what I want to do... And try stuff out in resolve to see if i can make it happen. I also watch other resolve RU-vid videos to learn more. There is lots of great resolve content on RU-vid.
You and Casey Faris are the best people I've seen explaining things in davinci for newcomers like me and I greatly appreciate y'all. I made my first lyric video for a song of mine thanks to you guys 🙌. I'm working on another one now for new song but I want to make like a rolling credits effect like at the movies when the credits roll. This a special request pretty please! Hope you see this. Or if you've already made a vid for this can you please link me. Thank you God bless and keep up the great work it's outstanding 💐
Hi, I have a question. I connected the animation of line and text mask and it was very convenient to animate one node and animation of another one was following. When I do it now the line is positioning in the center of the text mask. Earlier, I could reposition text masks to place it in the right positioning for revealing text right after the line goes. My actions are 1. Line animation 2. Create rectangle mask 3. Choose the rectangle mask and in the inspector right-click on (Center XY) and choose path 1==>position. Now, this 2 element are connected and the animation of the text mask follow the line. But the line in the center of the rectangle which makes the text reveal the wrong way. Before, I could position the left edge of the rectangle on the line and text was revealed right after the line. What I do wrong? I know there are other options to match the animation of 2 nodes but I have found this option, this is convenient but I can not repeat it now:( All day try to figure out what is wrong....will not give up until I found the decision. Anybody please help.
Thanks for the question...DId you figure this out? Not sure I am exactly following which part is not working. If there a timestamp in this video that shows what you are trying to setup? Which part of that is not working?
@@WilliamJusticeMedia Thank you for the answer. Here is a stamp I made. drive.google.com/file/d/1R_fhIzMI4b47Ekx4Akft2vA0rUGjkwCA/view?usp=sharing Earlier I did somehow when the line was on the edge of the text mask rectangle and text was revealed right after the line.
Hi, you can definitely use the write on parameter to get the line to move. For this video i was just experimenting with using the polygon in a couple of different nodes. but either way would achieve a similar effect. Thanks for the comments.
Hey William, thanks for the great video. I tried to do the ravel map animation. However, in my polygon I don't have the position and length option. I think I did everything as you described, but maybe I missed something. Do you have any idea why I'm missing these options? Thanks ;-)
I just came across your channel, but I want to ask if you could make a Slow motion and hyper lapse blend for DaVinci? I’ve looked everywhere I could but I’ve only seen Premiere Pro tutorials!
Hi William, how can we map the dotted line to an ellipse node? I'm needing to do this because I need a perfect ellipse of specific dimensions, rather than a hand-drawn shape. (Looking forward to hearing updates of your journey with your health. God bless you).
Hi, There are probably a lot of different ways to do it,, but if you need to create an ellipse path... Try going to the text node, click the layotu tab and choose type of circle... you can adjust the circle width and size to create an ellipse OR if you want to have a bit more control you can try creating your own ellipse path..Add a polygon node. Then before drawing a polygon, right click in the center of the viewer window... at the bottom of the popup menu select, polygon: polyline... select create and then ellipse... You can set the ellipse width/height. you can use a text node to create the dotted line. in the text node, click the 2nd icon for layout, select type of path... then right click the "right click here for shaep animation" select remove path.. THen right click again and connect the text to your ellipse polygon path. Hope that helps!
Hi William. I hope everything is fine there! Do you remember what tools you used to create the 3D stage? I'm trying to do something in that way here but I'm a little lost with some tools such as corner positioner and I'm not sure if this is the way to go. I'm not asking you all the details, but just what combination of tools you used for it! Thank you very much!
Hey Bruno, The stage was actually pretty simple. I started out making a really complex 3d scene with shapes and projections (it looked really great - better than what ended up in the video).. but it was running way to slow. so i scrapped it and kept it super simple. I just created a single transparent png image in photoshop... with lines and shading where the different parts of the stage were. by overlaying the image on top of another video I got the 3d look.. it really all comes down to the shading... I did mask out the bottom part (floor) of the stage and inverted the image on the background to display on the floor...... Not sure if this is the final image i used, but it should give you a rough idea.... billjustice.com/i/u/7000709/i/Resources/stagelines6.png just overlay this image on top of whatever background you want. I made this really quick.. with a bit more time you could probably do quite a bit with this technique. Hope this helps you out.
Thank you a lot William. Thanks to you I'm getting something to my next show. haha It's not so beautifull and so detailed as your stage, but for my purpose what I've done is fine for now. I will change the floor and the videos on my next renderings. I'm sharing with another account I have so my audience can't see what I'm creating for the next video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ydgNit7aado.html In my case, as I have not done the shading to create a nice 3d feling as your stage has I put some distractions such as the roof spotlights and the lights on the Davinci resolve logos. I used some smoke on a greenscreen I got on RU-vid and lightRays with masking to create the spotlights. Thank you again and again and again! I'm going to pay you a coffee as soon as I get access to my paypal account. I need to reset my password and to get a way to use my credit card there so I can make payments. No need to comment about this. I was wanting to do that a long time.
Great tutorial but is there a way to do the same thing with a paint tool? I'm rather new at this but I'm trying to outline an object but where the line floats next to (and surrounds) the object in 3D.
@William Justice Thanks for responding. I think I got it. I used the planar tracker to track the ground, the shape tool, then a mask to hollow out the center, but it seems there's gotta be a better way. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uMPpAl-MZxw.html
Hi William, Amazing video You could teach us how did you create the audience and the stage. I have a good idea about how to create that, but I think that because I have no great skills in video editing I could end up creating it in a very bad way in terms of management: I mean, I certainly would not create my project in an optimized way. For example, I would not be sure wether would be better to create and isolate each people of the audience (the transparent background) using the color page or doing it in fusion. I also not sure wether it would be better to create a single fusion clip including everybody in the audience in this clip or instead puting each person from audience in a separated fusion clip. It would be nice to know the way you did it since this can be the difference between having a project rendering by many hours or having it rendered in a shorter time or between spending hours just to made a small change in your editing or a few minutes (for example, changing the place where someone is in the audience or creating a reusable asset that with a few clics gives you a new person with a transparent background to be added in the audience by just changing a media in node in fusion). Thank you very much.
Hey Bruno... this audience was a bit job to put together... Not sure if I did it the best way,, but it worked... I filmed myself on a green screen. I used fusion to key out the green screen...I think created a png graphic for each rows of the seats...I then layered the people clips on top of the seats..... I wanted to do everything in one timeline but it was too much for my computer... so i ended up creating a separate timeline for each row... Then rendered each row.... after that i created a new audience timeline and brought in each of the pre-rendered people rows. The trick is that when you render each row you have to make sure that you are exporting the transparency..
@@WilliamJusticeMedia Thank you very much. I had serrious issues while using fusion to create an audience here. When I finish my project I will put the link here so you can se my results. It's far from being such organized and beautiful like your stage, but it worked. My computer quite good. not high end, but it was also too much for it to handle the audience in a fusion clip. It would be impossible to create my entire project in a single timeline too. Thank you again
Thank you William. Indeed I had an idea of a video for my students and for that procject I would need an audience for the video. So I was having exactly the same issue you have described in your answer above (the performance issues to get the entire audience in just one fusion clip). So I had to do exactly what you did: to render the audience separatetly so I could use it on my timeline. I'm learning a lot with your videos and they are very inspirational to me for creating videos for my students (I'm a professor and I'm trying to create some fun contents to my students during this dark period of coronavirus pandemic). I watch all your videos and find your channel one of the best RU-vid channels on Davinci Resolve. I'm very uneskilled on Video Editing/Davinci Resolve, but I love to think about creating nice videos.
Glad you got the audience part figured out. It is a lot of work but I had fun putting it together. I am sure that your students enjoy fun and interesting videos. If they are watching and engaged that will only help the learning process!!!! I am learning too... Really I don't know all this stuff. I just get an idea in my head and then mess around until I figure out how to do it. I like solving problems and coming up with unique solutions!
@@WilliamJusticeMedia Yes, I've also figured out how smart and clever you are with your solutions. Your videos really show this characteristic of yours!
