Guys, please be friendly to each other, it is a tough subject to talkabout as opinions might differ a lot and this is the youtube comment section but there is no need to hate on each other >.>
agreed its not something thats impossible to do and it does add skiil to the game than just spamming an ability for damage this game isnt tera with combos you gotta figure all that out on your own what works best adding animation canceling in between
I could notice your ping is 60 ms right?! Hmm, even doing the animation canceling, with my 350 ms, I can`t get like 35k- 40k dps. The max I can get is 20k - 21k having 60% crit and about 3500 spell damage. With the new setup in Summerset, having 4500 spell damage and 60% crit, I could notice an improvement of just 5k damage. I keep practicing, but still, not sure if it`s lack of ability or ping.
Very true. Same issue here. Ping (at 250 - lowest), seems to be my downfall as well. It causes that slight delay when tapping one skill button, then the second, but the first didn't go off yet. Oh well ... :)
And this spoils the entire rotation, since you can`t match the buttons and the skills in sequence. Well, then it`s not lack of ability, but absolutely related to ping. Even though, there are some Australian Magicians able to overcome the ping issue and still hit like a truck, from what they say... wasn`t able to confirm that personally. Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I`m feeling less hopeless now lol.
It looks like one, but it is a prop... a furnishing you get after collecting all skyshards from the base game :) It is nicely placed there, I liked this detail too.
Something you need to add about ani-cancel, is that if you play with a considerable amount of ping (i play with 230 minimum) you might see animations and hit sounds go off, but since you have some delay to the server, it won't really register some of your inputs or attacks because you're doing it too fast. So my advice is to use the in-game damage numbers, and train yourself to ani-cancel only when you see a number, not before, or most attacks won't actually be a thing, especially for melee characters.
Aussie with 300+ ping, during my parse I will see my light attack animation go off, but the light attack doesn't always register as hitting if I do my skill straight after it. Sucks because it takes longer to get the 5 LA for my bow proc.
I love how clearly you explained everything. So many people cry about players cheating while all they are doing is animation cancel and LA weave. It took me forever to practise it. In PvP half the times it won't work due to lag but still. With siphoning attacks on my MagBlade I had no choice but to learn Light Attack cancelling.
It was not intended in the first place. But since it is a skill based "thing" they declared it a game feature. Maybe also because it could be very hard to fix and may require to rewrite the whole animation processing. It is in the game from the very beginning.
My general observation in the comments (myself included) seems to be having the high ping issue, causing this delay :( That said, this is still a great video and I did learn a thing a or two from it, plus from the comment feedback :) May I ask that, when you have time, to do a video about mods. What to have for PVE / PVP. What is outdated, what is worth keeping, etc. Thanks for everything and keep up the good work :)
Agree is a cool mechanic or at least one we have to live with. However, on console I find the lag a bit higher and often messes up the timing for the animation canceling. Specially on ground abilities like Liquid Lighting and the like.
I always thought they should have a toggle option that LOTRO has for animation smoothing. It's client based, doesn't effect actual combat, and only blends the animations together so it's less snappy and jarring.
You may add that if you have an terrible connection you may have Problems with AC. I at least can confirm that its way harder or impossible to do good AC if you have Lags or overall more Ping. With an good Ping i have way less problems.
And I think the reason why ZOS keep the mechanics of animation cancelling while attending less to the latency is, this is how they make money. Since there are so many good players can do cool stuff like animation canceling many ppl will try. But until they realize lag is the capping factor they have spent way too much. At that point, quitting eso or not, is less of a concern to ZOS. Of course perhaps there is a cost too high to bear to solve the latency problem, but this is how ZOS make money. Do they have a choice? Or do they even wish to choose?
It looks like your character is having some kind of spas attack, that's my problem with it. Plus I don't really see how it isn't degenerate gameplay to have to do a light attack between EVERY spell. To me it's just a badly designed combat system and these are unintended consequences.
The issue is people will LA -> Skill -> Swap -> Skill -> Swap -> Skill; until you're dead....which is literally 2-3 seconds. - Seems most Whirlwind users will run double WW; front bar and back bar. Then just spam it while spamming bar swap. They could easily fix this by putting in an 'execution time', which stops the second the animation is interrupted. Sure, you can keep cancelling, but if the execution time isn't met, then you don't get the desired affect of that ability/attack swing. I shouldn't be able to look like I'm using a Shake Weight and burn people down before they can even react. - No joke, got killed by a DK that ran 2H/2H...all the combat report had was Dizzying Swing and Executions; proceeded to watch him from the Afterlife as he massacred the other 6 or so players I was around. BTW: I'm positive that animation cancelling is what's lagging Cyrodiil (the ball zergs don't help either). It's a literal DDoS via packet flooding. So, keep it, but don't let us benefit from using it beyond not dying to an 'oh shit' moment. - Like cancelling to block or dodge roll. ((And yes, I do use cancelling. It's disgusting how much 'better' I do just because of it.))
i agree. but its a take it or leave it situation. its a oversight, a bug that was embraced later on to achieve a skill sealing for player. in order to get over 80k dps, you have to weave, meaning animation cancel the light attack with a skill and then cancel the skill through blocking and get another LA off, which then gets canceld through weapon swap. alot of people like it. not because they love the mechanic, its because it puts emphasis on skill. i would agree, if every class had to do this, but its basically just DDs that need it
1. Why would anybody call this cheating ? Like you can literally do this in the game, with no external assistance or exploit. Edit: Also literally everybody can do this, no restrictions. 2. Why are people complaining that this is a thing at all? Almost every game has some sort of animation canceling, it's part of animations are programmed. Also if a game like ESO would make it so every animation had to go through 100%, the game feel reeeealy weird trust me.
Xhiril Dhul I'd say that shooting in an fps game is a little bit different than this. You can animationcancel in fps games tho: Counterstrike weapon swapping to get in and out a sniper scope for example, nobody complains about that.
Badman I have a very high ping, lowish fps and bunch of lag in a group situation. My skills sometimes need 3-4 clicks to actualy fire and around 40-50% of light attacks just dont fire as well.I payed for the game same as others,I suport it but am getting "punished" for no reason. So yes I would like for AC to be removed or reworked so its not as impactfull.Or just optimize game better so its not so unfair...
BDO has cancels built into specific skills, also there are hidden cancels for each class. Incorrectly cancelling in BDO is more punishing as damage wont connect, meaning each class has its own "flow" at skill cap. ESO is boring though I agree.
Good stuff as always Alcast. You can get 5 abilities off at one time its called a "Cheat Engine table" and it goes on all the time. Zos stands proud and turns a blind eye to it.
'Canceling' started as a discovered exploit way back when Street Fighter 2 came out in 1991. Most every title in the 'Fighting Game" genre to this day contains cancels just like the ones in ESO.. just not to the extreme where you cant even see the normal attack come out. Still, what a welcome change from the bland ass weapon combat in Skyrim!
It is cheating. They didnt intend for you to do this when they created the game. Sure they lied and said its a "mechanic" and wont get rid of it because wayyy to many people will cry themselves to sleep if they did.
+OutlawStar539 Do you block attacks? If so, 99% chance you're animation cancelling right there. The system that allows animation cancelling to happen, the priority system, exists for a reason: to allow you to instantly react to an incoming attack and block when necessary. To fix animation cancelling would require the devs to remove the priority system, which would make blocking and combat in general so clunky that I can guarantee the vast majority of players will detest it, and some will likely leave.
also to add on, animation canceling is one of the few things that add an extra skill level to this game. If it were to be removed it would make the game a hell of a lot easier to play removing even more skill from it.
🤣 Call it whatever you need to make your self fell better about it.. They know its in the game! it just be easier to leave it and say its part of the game.. why have the animation in the first place.. should be enemies standing next to each other calmly like the sims and just fall over😆
I play in Australia so when i go to a shrine and port to a different area i have to cancel out the game and log back in does that count as Animation cancelling lol
