if your timing is decent, just as a heavy attack hits, you can cancel the attack into an instant light attack then cancel that with a skill. I find it easier to get the timing with a 2h rather than dual wield (not tried staff). So instead of the sword line travelling all the way behind, it stops half way and looks like you just done a double strike. Also, if you use a skill too fast after the light attack, you'll cancel the attack before the damage ticks.
Try doing the light attack weave/animation cancel on a melee class, it is actually a greatly significant animation cancel, as in possibly over 1 second shaded off each hit. Two handed even light attack the wind up is huge and it is surprising how much so it is for duel wield and S&B as well. It is even noticeable for bow.
Simple video enough, good for the player base to realize they can add more to their dps. What's odd to me is that your block works perfectly for canceling. I used to do that several patches ago, but read/youtubed somewhere that they nerfed that. Since then, my block canceling has not worked as well, and if i do it now, the block animation lasts a second/seconds longer w/o me holding the button down. Mouse has been changed several times and still has the same effect.
It must feel nice to play this game with 60ms ping. Asia here. I have to click swap weapon button 3 times before it works. I have no idea how to cancel animation with this ping I have. ):
Great video Blob...really helpful! Just one question to clarify something: animation cancelling works only with instant cast abilities right? How would you use Anim. Cancelling in a Magplar rotation? cheers
hi, nice video man! i have another good idea for video for more new/medium players. it's about damage mitigation and when to block or dodgeroll in pvp, I think it will be useful for a lot of players especially magicka classes who have to manage their stamina.
One thing you did not cover was something I have been wondering about since I learned about weaving a few weeks ago. If there is a cast time can you light attack as soon as you hit the cast time ability? And if it is a channeled ability like the Jesus beam, can that be canceled like you say in the video?
Ryan Michael Sullivan Yo man, do you heavy in with dizzy or do u go in with a light? I saw a video by deltia and according to his test, heavy+dizzy does more damage
when i block cancel, i can cast several mutagen, BoL faster one after another. try to cast them with spam then try it with block cancel. there is a diffrence.
I am new to this game and I wanted to know how damages are calculated. My question is about spells with passives abilities while slotted (like Magelight for crit boost and max magicka) If i cast an aoe of my first bar (which don't have Magelight slotted), will this aoe benefit from the Magelight of my second bar when I swap to bar 2? Will this work for the crit bonus and/or the max magicka bonus from Magelight? I ask this question because I see a lot of build putting Magelight on each bar and don't understand why. Isn't it a slot wasted if you cast an aoe and swap to cancel animation? Sorry for my bad english guys.
Yes ur ability will benefit from the extra mag, crit, spell dmg when u swap to bar2. Just think of it that the damage is always calculated off of theh bar ur on and not the bar u cast it from. Also the passives will kick in when u switch bar. For example blockade does more damage if ur "holding" a lightning staff, meaning if u cast a blockade from an inferno staff and for example it was doing 1000 dmg per tick non crit, and then u switch bar to ur lightning staff, u will notice the damage goes up due to ancient knowledge passive from destro staff.
Idk if its different on consoles but I could never weave in light attacks for certain skills. It just doesn’t work or the light attack takes a whole one and a half second to wind up for some reason. Are light attacks delayed on consoles or something?
Great and thorough video. Thank you. IMO. Why isn't it like this by default or simply not? What about all the players that don't know about this? 'Cus the game sure doesn't mention it. It just feels... shoddy. I'm lucky if the slotted abilities even work/respond at all. My PC/framerate and connection/ping is fine. Anyone got any tips? A 2 second delay on abilities isn't rare for me or my friends playing.
Aa cancel is just for people who wanna feel pro, it's definitely not required to have good dps and you'll rarely if ever get into a clutch scenario where it would make the difference
wtb siphoning attacks back. im dual 2h user with sa to regen, i cant find a substitute to keep sustain up besides sa as a stamblade. 1200sregen and 3300wp buffed. 7pc md armor using spriggans and sword-singer. what do i replace siphoning attacks with? ill take any help besides changing weapon/playstyle!
Ok, explain to me how there are guys that kill you with 5 surprise attacks in row, i know ani-can (i'm not the best at it but i can do it in most cases) and from what i can tell them jumping out of nowhere and casting 5 ambush etc in a row before i can finish saying "oh fuck" is just wrong, there has to be something wrong there, no ani-can explanation has covered this extra-ordinary feat
Josh hall Ikr it's pretty weird, i'm a fairly decent player, easily top 20 in any campaign i join with about 20% of the time played compared to most players (work, kids, irl etc) and i've fought against all the best in those campaigns and most of them have beaten me, but it's never been wham bam your dead, it's always been hard fought. then out of the blue you get some random dude that no one knows and all i do is see him approach and then i am dead, usually without even a death report to show for it or one full of surprise attack or ambush etc etc. i keep reporting these guys but it seems nothing is ever done.
Because most people hate that ZoS kept animation canceling in instead of fixing their game. And that people swallowed the whole "we want you to do animation cancelin" hook line and sinker.
Animation canceling seems like an unintended consequence of poor programming by Zenimax. No way in hell this was a design decision as animations serve the purpose of providing a GCD to skills, and canceling works around it. I wonder if Zenimax is just unable to fix it.
Oh man. Like I just can't get the hang of this animation cancelling shit. Like, maybe it's because I'm melee and every video I've watched has shown magicka ranged builds?
Love the videos but you seem to repeat yourself a lot. I’d consider making a script and reading it rather than repeating yourself over and over for the disclaimers. That or make a screen with it and don’t touch on it. Let them read it.
You talk so much more than you need good lord. Had to skip 3 minutes before you actually said anything and then I just gave up looking at how long the video is
