57:29 I like how much critique he has about March's poses and execution of her swordplay because canonically she only got to train with the sword for 2 weeks and also with teachers that have opposing/clashing sword styles (One with Speed and Agility and the other with Pure brute strength). So March's stumbles and mistakes of execution show her inexperience in swordsmanship.
@@brandonthompson6628 Technically Bronya and Qingque too, but theirs are just their basic attacks. But so is March Hunt's, and he covered that and it was most of where her problems are.
Now this is a treat. Also I think Dan Heng's ult could have the camera follow him through with that thrust instead of what appears to be a slash since it doesn't really make sense for him to have this pose and have him seemingly appearing from above. I think you can see a frame of Seele with her butterfly wings in her ult. I think Blade could have stretched out his left arm in front in his ult before he hits his ult to provide more momentum and makes the animation more dynamic. Also Lynx doesn't appear to be grabbing her snowboard in her ult animation just having it stick to the back of her hand. 34:15 I think it's a Tai Chi movement, I could be wrong. 35:30 Qingque next to her boss lol. 39:57 Argenti is a Knight of Beauty for a reason. 50:40 I don't think the movement you're suggesting would work well with the drawing of the Tachi. It's supposed to be near her waist and the way you were suggest it be done would have caused the sword to bend. 54:24 Robin actually also performs the song live in combat which you can see in the stats screen inside combat and she's doing a little dance. 1:05:21 Although technically the same person, the muscles on a male is more powerful than on a female, so Caelus would need less momentum to put the lance in position while Stelle would need some more movement to get it high enough. 1:08:35 I would also recommend that Moze have his left arm be in a sort of dab position and then have it swing out to create even more monentum to make the slash have a bit more impact as he can't really turn in the air without that movement. Edited as I watch the video and for organization.
From a completely artistic standpoint, they're all top tier. All of them has such good artistic animation and effects, i think we can all agree on that. The critique of the physics though and how body parts could move more realisticly or emphazize power in the shot is nice criticism
Its funny seeing him placing characters in S tier before getting hit by the animation powercreep of 2.x edit: watched him continously add more s+ tiers till the end lmao
@@S1eth There isn't much animation to it except her slightly dancing to the beat. So it's mostly just her singing. But that is the focus of Robin's ult so makes sense.
Trying to add context: 36:09 For clarity, Jingliu's game plan is to build up stacks with Skill and Ultimate to access her Enhanced Attack. It's why her skill looks less impressive and doesn't use the ice sword, the video's format mixed things around 55:17 Same issue with Jingliu, where the video obfuscates things. Firefly's game plan is to use her Skill (the flaming divekick) to access Ultimate, where she transform and has access to her Enhanced Skill. 57:32 The issue with March's butterfly kick might be 100% deliberate. Lore wise, she was forced into a surprise martial arts crash course by Yanqing and Yunli (The ultimate's flashback being her training montage), hence why she changed weapon from a bow to swords. It's also why all of her move looks cutesy and amateurish, she actually is an amateur 1:11:27 If you didn't catch it, the Ultimate is an buff that activates her parry. When she gets hit, she'll counter with her Enhanced Talent. If you combine both, you can see the Ultimate as the preparation phase as she builds your anticipation, with it being released on her Enhanced Talent. What you also miss is her Talent when no one's attacking her, but it's the less exciting version of her Enhanced Talent (smaller sword, no parting clouds and sunshine) 1:05:05 Unless it's covered on stream, both of them have the same move and you might miss the Caelus ver.
42:07 I do agree that the anticipation is absolutely godlike, but I feel like Xueyi should be hunched over a bit more after a throw that intense. It feels like Xueyi’s putting her entire soul into that throw, but suddenly stops to pose like a cutesy waifu last minute 40:23 HWEHWE 45:47 I think Black Swan’s ultimate is the “moment” when ults just become way more cinematic in general 51:20 POV: Huohuo watching Aventurine’s entire bank account drop on her head for the 14th time 53:53 I wish to end all strife in the world 🍑❤️ Harmony in unison 🕊️🕊️🎤🎼 Stars echo… 🚶♀️🍑 RIIIISE UP INTO MY 🎤⬆️⬆️⬆️ WOOOOOOORLD… 🔆🌈Esse Est Percipe. 🤔💭Knowledge, the measure of truth and falsehood 🗿➡️😨BONK! 💨💨😶🌫️ Time to twirl! ❄️🔁🔁🔁 Right! 😃Investing in victory means playing the long game!!! 🐷↗️ 💯 Go Numby! 👋🏻WYOOOH! 🔥🌪️💥 ZERO POINTS! 🖱️➡️➡️➡️ Time to twirl! ❄️🔁🔁🔁 ZERO POINTS! 🖱️➡️➡️➡️ Do you know who I am? @@Coramelimane that's what I was going to say. She's not limited by muscles and fatigue, so she can throw as hard as she possibly can, then just keep the leg locked no matter what.
Weird not hearing the voicelines I've heard a million times with the animations but I guess that actually allows me to focus more on the animations themselves.
@@simonedeliseo updated one. We need skill. Plus Bronya HoR divine key skill is good. And He need update on Senadina, Coralie, Helia, Thelema, Lanturn, Songque,Theresa, Fuhua Mantis form and Adult Griseo
Unfortunately, Seele's ult had its third, longest set of impact frames taken out bc playing the game on 2x speed with her was an active threat to everyone's eyeballs and even more of a seizure risk for those who suffer from epilepsy than everything else in the game
Man I am a little disappointed by the presentation on feixiao's animations, in-game the follow-up attack automatically happens after using her skill, resulting in a very nice flow of the enemies getting knocked up into the air by her skill and then she immediately dashes in to take advantage, showing off the relentless nature of her fighting style. makes the whole animation way better in my eyes.
I think an important part to remember about these animations is that they need to be good in both 1x and 2x speed. While the 1x are definitely more important to get all the important frames, 2x also needs to be able to be translated quite simply off of the 1x animations, which may restrict things sometimes. In the end though, all the animations are insane in HSR and the game has literal Animation-creep where newer characters' animations just keep getting better and better
Look at it this way, March hunt is supposed to be a newbie at handling swords, she shouldn’t be able to do proper martial arts movement in just 2 weeks 😂
I think one thing that is tricky about the framing of the animations in this game is that since it can be played on so many different devices so the aspect ratio can differ quite a bit. There are quite a few animations I see in this where the character is half out of the frame but when playing on my monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio or on mobile(what the animations were likely made for) it doesn't seem to happen nearly as often.
Oh yeah, HSR trailers have been insanely good for a while now and funnily enough, you can tell which characters are getting extra special attention because their trailers are available in 4k lol.
With blackswan aroudn 48:00 I think the hands are quite good, when something explodes with so much force they would open, as well as holding each other wrists does pretty well in showing the madness of the death etc!
Lowkey I believe Black Swan's ult at the end is meant to be a parody of the Tree of Imagination, a symbol in the honkai verse of the tree which holds the multitudes of diff universes
I think it's worth noting that most of these animations are going to be viewed on double speed and, well, I think the animators have a hard time finding a balance between having enough detail for the slower speed and not too much for 2x speed. Animation speed does affect your experience. The Most recent event (Luoafu Wardance) has a cut scene that is a fight between Yangqing and Luka, and it just felt off to me. Unbalanced in a way. It wasn't until I rewatched it on RU-vid at .75 speed that I realized that it was animated slightly too fast, which made the whole fight feel awkward. Just slightly slower and it felt much better as a viewer. The camera tracking was more natural and you could understand what was going on much better. I feel like the combat animations are struggling to not feel too awkward when viewed at regular(slow) speed and not unbalanced and shaky when on double speed.
I know this video is about the animations, but i think the voice lines would have been amazing to "explain" (i know not the best word but english isnt my first language sooo, sue me XD) some of the emotions in the animations better.
Herta is a puppet. You need to keep that in mind. Also a lot of other characters have things that effect how the move and use weapons. I would recommend the next time you do this you get someone with you who knows the characters from Honkai Star Rail
For Acheron, you cannot add too much of the sword, because she wields and odachi. For Firefly, you need to go and watch her demo to understand why it's Gundam + Sailormoon
Funfact about Welt, it is in the Lore that he is doing the "Combat poses" because of march 7th cause she said something along the lines that he is fighting to "boringly" and needs some cool combat poses, so yeah credit to welts poses go to march 7th XD
Thank god this time you actually go through the talents, the poses, but damn, why don’t just go through the basic atk too lol? Some of them actually have a very cool basic atk’s animation (like Feixiao, Guinaifen, Huo Huo, etc…)
Yeah, unfortunately Harmony MC animations are not very great. The poses are amazing, and the focus on the hat is great because of it's importance to the plot, with the Trailblazer inheriting Mikhail's will. The Ultimate animations are kinda sucky and a bit lame. It's also true that Stelle has better animations, but that's understandable. I think she had more work put into her than Caelus, and it's not too surprising given the game's biased for waifus. March 7th is adorable, Firefly is a mecha magical girl, and Feixiao and Acheron are super cool badasses. With so many characters, a lot get somewhat forgettable despite their animations not being bad at all, but they still shine for me.
love the video, i've learned a lot, i do have a couple things i disagree, mostly because it's narrative based instead of animation based, so i don't mind the ranks too much actually Hunt March 7 for example, her pose is wrong because she is in fact doing it wrong, we get a whole storyline where you train her, so she's just winging it and hoping it works, she has 0 idea how to do anything right, so it's great stortelling for her to d animations wrong Between Caelus and Stelle, personally i think Caelus is much better, aside from the dancing one(Stelle is objectively better at dancing), mostly because i view them as two separate characters, their personality in the anmations is completely different from a narrative standpoint, Caelus is very serious and agressive, in his expressions and movement and the way he feels, it's almost like he really wants to fight whoever it is on the receiving end(there's grit and anger), Stelle on the other hand is extremely casual, as if she doesn't care about the fight, so to me they feel like two different characters with the same weapons, so i rank them differently, because Caelus seems more expressive i rank him higher both in Destruction and Preservation, in the imaginary path he seems pretty awkward, which is good narrative, but the animation feels bad compared to Stelle, so she wins here Honestly Jingliu is to me the best character animation wise and from a narrative standpoint, with Fu Xuan in second place, to me, i also really like Firefly(my gundam waifu) and Feixiao Lastly...Clara is above Jingliu because she's adorable, she's my child and i put her in first place, for nepotism, don't care she's SSSS tier
40:57 You don't really see her tail because um... that IS her tail flying around. Unless you were talking about the fact you couldn't see him much while she was holding him
58:20 they did those mistakes in the movement on purpose, as she is inexperienced in martial arts and the art of swordsmanship. She was training for what I believe was 1-2 weeks and with not a good basics of the movements(she normally uses a bow so getting into close combat is strange for her) that's why she makes mistakes in her movements XD Quite genius of them to do that
FYI, it is pronounced as Ruan (like… Roo-Ah-n) And the instrument she is holding is actually called….. a Ruan. Her Chinese name 阮•梅 is a combination of both her parent’s surnames, which translates literally into Ruan Plum Blossom. The instrument Ruan is 阮 in Chinese, the exact same character as her name.
The March 7th Hunt "talent 2" has more attention to detail than I thought. If you hadn't explained the Butterfly sword move, I wouldn't have noticed. She's a novice in swordplay, and she only had weeks of training, so it would make sense that she'd have errors in her form. That attention to detail is pretty sick.
I was ready to come in here swinging for QQ. But I see I don't need to. Top of SS is worthy of her perfection. I'm not so insane that I think she should be number 1. Shesnumberoneinmyheart
this is the first time im seeing moze cuz i quit after firefly but i swear to god that skill animation looks satisfying they really make him look like Sung Jin Woo solo leveling by the looks and with his dagger and the shadowy skills but the ult looks lacking still looks very cool character for a 4 star
Theres only one of the hsr animations i want this man to watch and IT IS simply becouse i want him to go crazy just like we All did and everyone knows which one i mean
Did you notice the classic Gundam effect for Firefly's ult? Also, if you indulge yourself in hearing Firefly's first lines, you'll know she is an S tier waifu.
Ok with acheron's skill, she is basically going so fast u can see enemies moving in slow mo actually but its not her slowing down time, its meant to show how quickly she moved that she leaves after images which follow how her attack went (from point of view of the enemy it would be like she didnt move from the spot at all and she simply unsheathed and sheathed her blade back in but for us we see the whole process and the slow mo stops once she sheathes the blade and space fabric breaks)
Great video, another video idea could be to rank the mystic artes from the 'Tales of' series, I hope there is enough interest in it, since it is a lesser known series in general. Keep up the good work!
i feel like the only thing that annoys me is that he doesnt look at the basic attacks because many characters have pretty cool looking basics aswell. Like HuoHuo getting pushed by Tail for example.
Tbh you should really tune into the lore of these characters march is not a sword fighter in the event she learns a bit but isn’t perfect at it but she tries her best
He has returned with the milk. In all seriousness I really do enjoy seeing these breakdowns/reactions as it also helps me in setting up perspective shots for photos for gunpla. So thank you for these and hope to see more.
Ok since you are reviewing games animation and not just the ultimates, can you do PGR again? Because you missed out on a lot of new characters with cool animations and ultimates!
For Huohuo, that thing that she is holding on in her ult is actually her "tail", its name is mr.tail and is actually the giant fox you see at the end of her ult.
Bronya has a different camera angle if you buff somebody else instead of herself and you missed yanqing / qingque talent / followup attack. I think you also missed a few enhanced basic attacks like Blade / Luka (and basic attacks in general).
Some things to note about Acheron’s ult that makes it cooler is that she literally freezes the rain as well, you can see her cut the water droplets in half at the end which is such a nice and small detail
Seele’s ultimate impact frames are before the actual hit because she has already hit the ennemy before they realise it, Interpreting it that way makes me like the animation way more
