Red Hawks actually did at one time have a Wikipedia entry. I know this because that’s how I found out it was a Korean film when I first looked it up after purchasing the VHS at a thrift store years ago. But after looking for it again it seems that it was deleted for some strange reason...
Notability, most likely. Which is nuts, if it IS the first Korean animated film to be dubbed into English and distributed in the West, THAT IS NOTABLE. Gheesh.
Meanwhile, here are a few Wikipedia entries that ARE notable enough to keep. * Glass Joe, recurring Punch Out!! character. * Bat'leth, a.k.a. the Klingon sword. ("Note the replica of the 'Sword of Kahless,'" says the photo caption. WAS THERE AN ORIGINAL!?) * The Noid, long-defunct Domino's Pizza mascot of the '80s. * Pegging. * The Dazzler, disco-themed Marvel superhero. (And holy shit is that entry thorough.) * Pocky. (Though it's needed additional citations for verification since 2012.)
I swear, this anime is almost beat-for-beat Samurai Champloo. Weird-looking guy is eating at an establishment when a ruffian hassles the waitress, weird-looking guy is about to handle the ruffian when a quiet, mysterious stranger steps in and initiates the fight, but the restaurant is smashed up, anyway. The girl then decides to follow the two people to find the person who killed her parents. Change up a few details in both shows, but the overall plot fits neatly either way. Even to the point of Steve Blum playing the weird-looking guy in both shows. That's hilarious.
It should be noted that up until recently, which still lingers in some today, South Korea had A LOT of bad blood with Japan, predating WWII, but especially from it. That being said, it makes some sense that South Korean studios would rather rip-off Japan rather then touch them with a ten mile pole.
Loving the Aqua Teen Hunger Force refereces dude, Dr Weird its gold tier comedy stuff man. Now that i had seen the Not-TRON and Not-Dragon Ball korean relative and now the Not-Street Fighter korean version i had seen everything from them now, i mean yeah the Hedgehog and Squirrel stuff its....messed up to say the least but at least some sort of originality and quality went in there *SOME SORT* not so much after all, but this? god damn its quite stupid, i mean yeah it has some "good" designs and decent animation but dear god its just bland and stupid, and has nothing going on for anything in the OVA. Also its is me or in the cover Red Hawk looks like that Hawk looking girl from that Turbograph 16 game called Strip Fighter? but as like a male version of her of course, well at least they could had used him to do a porn spin off where he is some kind of stripper like that girl, at least it could had "pleased" some girls out there.
The thumbnails are sometimes my favorite part of Sage’s videos...even a lot of videos I watched was purely because of the thumbnail...(including this video)
I REALLY wish I could remember the movie (?) where the mysterious hero who appears out of nowhere and the bumbling town goof who looks exactly like the mysterious hero and runs off when danger appears... are actually two completely different people. I mean from what I recall the goof actually runs to go get hero but they dont tell you that until the end.
I saw this movie a few hours ago. I thought it was... Alright. Nothing fantastic, but not horrible either. Hey, Sage. While you're on the subject of Korean anime, you should review the Korean Street Fighter anime movie. It came out in 1992, which was two years before "Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie". Its a VERY bizarre film. But unlike the 1994 animated movie which was an official licensed product, this Korean knock off is unofficial since Capcom never authorized it. And I'd like to see you do that movie justice. I don't know where you can find a physical copy of it anywhere. But its on RU-vid.
That music from 4:31 is actually from Magnetic Rose originally, three years before Bebop. Go to the first SOS scene and be amazed. But if Red Hawk also came out in '95, where's it originally ORIGINALLY from?
Is it me or does Red Hawk's civillian form look like Junta Momonari from DNA^2? At least when he's under the influence of the Mega Playboy. Mainly cause of the eyes.
It helps to take into consideration that this movie was made in a country that only recently had become a developed democracy, so it's not exactly fair to compare their animation standards to Japan, the USA, the UK, Canada or France.
The longer this review goes on, the more I feel this review was made exclusively to not only highlight a Korean anime, but also for Sage to shitpost like mad. To be fair, this is basically Copypasta: The Anime.
Let's just say things well get very interesting with this one and leave it at that wouldn't want to deprive you of the reality questioning insanity that is to come before I feast on your tortured mind afterwards
The scene at the restaurant plus the heroine wanting to meet a mysterious man that she feels she owes her life too ( that doesn’t smell of sunflowers) and Sage saying there were more connections to Cowboy Bebop made me think it was a Samurai Champloo rip-off until I remember this is almost a solid decade before it even airs.
Not the case at all. Bebop saw its English release in 2001 on Adult Swim. Red Hawk was released in English for August of 2002, according to IMDB. This is most likely a problem with directing and source material. I cannot imagine what kind of spot the localization team found themselves in, that they had to throw their hands up and have Blum read, "Meatbuns, BOI!"
Blum is ass in MOST of his roles, this is why I don't get why he gets so much cred, in fact MOST anime voice actors are ass... most. Line deliveries always sound forced and ameuterish, most of the time you talkshouting for example (worst thing in terible acting)
@@AnAverageGoblin what do I have to be butthurt about? XD. Stick to words you know what means.... All I'm saying is having many roles does not equate talent. He is as wooden af most of the time, and has only a handful of decent performances.
Please review Protector of Universe 2:40. I’ve wanted you to for a long time now. That movie was my childhood. Whether or not that’s a good thing is still debatable for me.
thank you for the closure, what the info I got about this anime was from either an old VIZ video, Manga entertainment, or Manga Corps dvd & no trailer to show for it,
"JOHN CENA!" HA! Haaaaaa. That was funny, I enjoyed that. Also any and all Dr. Weird references and jokes are always welcome and appreciated. Also you know what else was animated in Korea? A little known series, you probably haven't heard of it, FREAKING AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER! Also Voltron, The new one. Korea can pump out some magnificent stuff when it wants to. Yeah those were written over here in the West, but you can't take away the animation itself.
I was given a free copy of Red Hawk on VHS back when I did my work experience at Manga Entertainment's UK Headquarters in the 90's. Don't worry. They did give me some good stuff also.
Hold up, Puppet Princess hasn't already been reviewed? Or am I confusing it with something inexplicably similar? Knight Hunters is so awful that it transcends its awfulness into a religious experience.
That shit crazy I’ve been looking for this anime for years I saw It a long time ago when I was either 4 or 5 years old thanks to you I can finally watch it again
So I gotta ask... Is Gabe looking like Seamus from Family Guy except with 2 eye patches now, did you leave him as a stump, or put out of his misery, because we don't(or at least I) don't see him in the videos anymore, or anyone really, which were some of my favorite parts of your videos, the interaction between you all was good.
Holy Shit Bennett ! I used to watch you on channel awesome, this is the first video of your that i saw on youtube. it was very funny and you look fantastic!
I bought this on VHS back in the 90's at an HMV. Unfortunately my copy was a bit corrupted at one part and lived nowhere near a town/city that had an HMV so I could get a new copy. I still like it, despite it's silliness and I thought it was just ripping off Dragonball. Streetfighter never crossed my mind. My favourite line is "something something featherheaded asshole!"
something i noticed about the animation is how flowy it feels to anime. instead just mouth flaps, the character at least move a bit more. guess that what happens when outsourced studios do their own works. rubs off on ya.
Bennett would you be interested in reviewing the Highlander anime movie? It seems it's a movie that not a lot of people are talking about and would be perfect for your show
I got two korean based anime from two separate periods: Armaggedon, based on a manwha, which was pretty much so bad it's good. And Wonderful Days (or sky blue for the butchered version), which is a much more modern title, and that I like quite a lot.
3:49 "It is a good day to do what has to be done by me to help my brother to defeat the enemies!" 7:35 Huh, Sailor Jupiter's cosplay leaves a lot to be desired.
