After covering some anime OPs, and today we're going to pivot and talk a bit about some of my favorites EDs (endings). If your favorite ED isn't on the list, there are a handful of reasons:
-I haven't seen the anime in question
-I watched the show in a binge format and often skipped it
-I just didn't enjoy it as much as you.
Huge shoutout to the patreons for the continued support! If you'd like the opportunity to pick a topic for discussion or snag a portrait for the credit scroll, head on over to the Patreon page!

Yu Yu hakusho’s “Homework Never Ending,” is the definition of a late night Saturday/Friday vibe. Which is a cool contrast to Smile Bomb’s upbeat summer day vibe. Also It’s always great seeing love for JJK’s Lost in Paradise bc that ending does not get talked about enough in my opinion

Yu Yu Hakusho’s Daydream Generation has to be my favorite YYH ED. When I was younger, I owned a single disk that had some of the last episodes of the 3 kings arc that I watched on repeat countless times. Now anytime I hear the ED I get the same feeling of nostalgia as when I listen to Smilebomb

Inuyasha endings are so damn hard to choose from. So many great songs. For me, I have to go with Fukai Mori. It’s the first song (at least that I can remember) hearing in the Japanese language. I knew I was either up too early or stuck with some very uncomfortable sleep paralysis hearing this song. But it’s what got me into listening to Japanese music. Probably the only reason I’d put it over the other endings. But I can’t skip some of the other endings in My Will, Every Heart, and Shinjutsu no Uta. Can’t go wrong in any of those songs. For some other anime, I enjoy all of the Soul Eater endings aside from the first. I have no problem with it but it doesn’t scratch the itch the other songs do. I would pick Style over the others myself. I’m going to skip Naruto because the only ending I got to listen to was Shooting Star, so I’ll have to spin the block before picking a song for that. FMA would probably be Shunkan Sentimental (4th ending song in Brotherhood). That’s the one that most resonates with me. Death Note… Alumina is the better ending song fit. I like Zetsubou Billy more. May have to do something with me being a wild child. And Bleach… I gotta spin the block on that too, but that’s because I enjoy quite a number of the ending songs, certainly Kansha and Haruka Kanata in that mix. But just to give a song or two, Happy People and My Pace. For Yu Yu Hakusho, I always find myself going back and forth between the third and fifth ending songs. The first ending song is probably the middle song (yes I thought it over and moved it up lol). It’s certainly a plus song, I’m just more in tune to 3 and 5 more than 1. One ending song I personally recommend is Type: Wild by Rica Matsumoto. There are two versions of the song, the first version being the fifth ending song in the Pokemon anime. (Yes, I’m talking about the Japanese version of the anime.) There is also an English version (so I guess technically three versions, but I don’t know the vocalist’s name off the top of my head for the English version), so that’s an option too. I think you would like it. I could name some others, but that’s the one I’ll put myself on the front lines for.

Okay but serious question when can we expect the rewriting of the three kings Arc for Yu Yu Hakusho I honestly want to see what you would do different as opposed to what my friend group and I talked about with that mediocre arc

Toonami definitely reset certain series over and over. When Vegeta blew himself up they did it many times

Steven Universe had astounding EDs but they were longer songs chopped up and played it parts through the episodes. Had to find the full songs online to appreciate them.

Oh 100%, though I feel like shows like SU always have such an unfair advantage when not only is music super baked into the story, but the musicians are often the ones also writing, boarding and designing whole storylines, designs, characters and scenes. Out of its 2 billion songs, love like you is the only one that’s designed to be applicable to every character while also spelling out the shows true message. Revealing that, tucked away piece by piece only AFTER the characters have made enough progress to grow as a person makes the hit when you finally hear the final few minutes of the song all the harder. Do you remember the early episodes where the Ed didn’t even have lyrics yet (because the story hadn’t begun) or the blank period where the Ed was ominous and mysterious and everyone just thought it was a new song entirely? I remember the days where us fans were clamoring for a “full version” of the song. Constantly having to listen to fake stitched and extended versions, not fully realizing what’s actually at play I wish this was utilized in other shows more but I get how time consuming and specific the circumstances and money it cost to pull this off. We’re talking one 2 to 10 minute song, that hinges on the idea that you know what the entire story is like and will be about before episode one and writing lyrics and instrument in arrangement and genre that’ll fit the style and pretty much every period the story’s gonna be in 💀

I gotta show some love to Shiki No Uta. Minmi's vocals over Nujabes production is a match made in heaven. It had to be hard matching the energy The Seatbelts/Yoko Kanno brought to Cowboy Bebop but Watanabe found the perfect Hip Hop equivalent. In regards to newer outro's; Ningen Fushin's "Never Fear" has become a go to. It feels like seeing a peek of sun on a rainy day. The beat just forces a smile on my face - I can't help but sing along. There are so many great ones. Death Parade, .Hack//Sign, Kotaro Lives Alone for the stylistic choices. I'm so glad you showed love to Inuyasha cause those outros are where I fell in love with music. I think a little piece of me will always be sitting next to Kagome in My Will's ferris wheel.

Another really great one is Shoujo Kakumei Utena 1st ending called Truth performed by Luca Yumi. The 2nd ending Virtual Star Embryology is great as well but the 1st is still the best.

Kaiji's ED makeinu tachi no requiem is easily my biggest unskippable ED. Not just for the symbolism and the bop, it's also just fun that Kaiji's VA sang the opening and one of his main foils sang the ending.

I have many favorite endings, but one that I remember particularly is the ending of Fushigi Yuugi called Tokimeki no Doukasen. This song has a very iconic beginning so they did something that few Anime do these days which they start playing the song before the episode is done announcing the ending and cutting to the proper ending animation as the singing part is about to begin, though Oshi no Ko also did this with their ending track Mephisto, I wish more anime did this but it takes a song with a particularly cool intro to make it work. Do listen to this track, and do watch Fushigi Yuugi, it's a great 90's Shoujo Isekai (before we had a name for the genre Isekai), it solid stuff.
