I used to believe that Ghost Stories was a flop in Japan as well, but it actually did quite well They were actually worried that it wouldn't do well in the west, since it's mainly influenced of famous japanese ghost stories So the cast were allowed to put in some western pop culture references, as long as the story stayed the same And that's how the famous official abridged series we all know & love was born, huzzah!

Inumaki's french dub directly translates to "It's over. Don't move" and the speed in which he said it was bizarre in my opinion as a native speaker. Like they could have just written "Ne bouge plus" in the script and taken out the "C'est terminé" and had the voice actor talk a tad slower and it would still match the animation and might have sounded a bit nicer. Not telling the translators how to do their job, just giving my personal opinion. I speak English and French so I tend to pick up these things when watching in both languages.

Japanese Inumaki: Soft but powerful English Inumaki: Forceful French Inumaki: “shit your pants” German Inumaki: “Damn I’m hungry”

Bryce does such a good pissed off voice, it sounds so feral and animalistic. I generally prefer Japanese VA for Eren for normal scenes but when it comes to anger Dub takes it imo.

I haven't laughed that hard in months, if not years. Absolutely died at the Spanish Attack on Titan clip.

As a French speakers I'm confused where they added the extra words in the Jujutsu kaisen one of cursed speech. Japanese and English "don't move". French "it's over don't move (anymore)"

I'm fine with either dub or sub. What I can't do is switch between the two. If I start an anime in dub I can't then watch it subbed and vise versa. It just seems weird to me when I try to watch it in one after establishing it in the other.

Honestly, localization has been on point the last decade. The original sub vs dub argument seems like a moot point now; it really seems like it all comes down to the voice coaching like how y’all were watching. I will say even though I used to be “subs only”, when I started watching anime with my kid, we watched English dubbed with subtitles

You get used to reading subtitles and for me it happens so fast that I don't miss anything ... so that argument is bs lol. The original versions of anime tend to be better quality, mostly because in Japan, they have studios that spend far more money on this, so you get better voice acting, and (perhaps more importantly) better audio MIXING. Dubs (depending on which company does them) sometimes sound like the voices of the characters were added in after the fact. Yes, I know they technically *were*, but a great audio production team will make it so that the overdubbed voices completely fit into the overall mix of audio. Plus, dubs often lose a bit of magic because there are many idioms, pop culture, play-on words, and jokes that are impossible to translate, and often times completely lose the original meaning. There's also more risk of mistranslations, such as Naruto in the english dub telling Neji after their fight that he always failed the exams because he sucked at shadow clone jutsu (a high-level jutsu that they definitely never learned at the academy), but he should have said *clone* jutsu. I dunno, there are exceptions, but all in all, Japanese audio with subtitles is going to present the story in a way that is closer to what the author intended.

Need you to do some natuto clips for this if you do it again. Madara scenes and you know that one obito scene would be great
