Beautifully spoken, easy to understand, and practical approach for a more healthy lifestyle. You have renewed my otherwise broken motivation to fast again. Thank you Anja! You are awesome!
Thanks for that great talk. That keeps me motivated to keep going. Took me three months till I finally overcome my carb craving. I am from Germany and it seems like everyone wants to get me off the fat. It's so deep instilled into society that "fat and meat are very bad". I recently read in a big online newspaper "meat consumption dropped to 52 kg per year in Germany" and all commentaries are chearing this.
I travel annually to Europe for leisure, and just finished a five-stop Northern Europe cruise. Unfortunately the narrative being pushed by the EU (dominated by Germany) is counterproductive, and arguably wrong. This includes the demonization of nuclear power (truly carbon free) and the mindless push towards “renewable energy” which will drive higher inflation, energy poverty and continental deindustrialization. The campaign against farmers in Netherlands and the rah-rah push towards a “plant-based” diet is similarly rooted. None of this is based on science or common sense.
I think we have to get out of fossil fuels. Agriculture must change too. We must stop polluting our ground water. But all that nonsense about meat is horrible. So many people really believe that we must eat less meat. The reasoning is mostly: The poor animals shall no longer suffer and meat production is one driver of climate change. It's sad that so many people don't support pesticide free agriculture and grass fed animals.
Yes, the MSM and politics have done an excellent propaganda job on the German people, sadly. They have made the people feel guilty and ashamed for following their natural instincts to eat meat. The majority of my students here are heavily plant-based but not necessarily happy. I'm considered an outlier.
I really enjoyed this video. And the last sentence was hilarious: renovation was exactly what we did during lockdowns. And my doing OMAD helped me not to gain weight during that time.
Best talk on fasting I have ever heard. Everything Anja says is true based on my experience. Thanks for getting out there and spreading the word Anja. I am on my 12th multi-day fast (3-8 days). Hitting the reset button, exercising the metabolism, reducing liver fat, reducing inflammation. All true. Three months ago fasting was difficult. Now I look forward to fasting because I feel better when and after I fast. The key, for me anyway, was electrolytes (salt and a little lime juice), fiber for my gut (1 tsp of psyllium with coffee) and learning how to re-feed properly (broth and no carbs the first three meals of re-feeding). Good food tastes great, processed food tastes like crap and this is teaching my brain how to eat better. It took five or six fasts to get there, but now it is as easy as skipping a meal.
Very clear explanations of the mechanics of fasting. After two five-day fasts in the last six months, I found: 1. A pinch of pink salt occasionally and ACV w/water help ease the minor hunger pangs 2. Best to be eating real food for some time prior so your hunger signaling systems are functioning well. Fasting helped me go from 205 to 175 in one year.
@@Norman_Gunstan1 For myself, extended fasting both frequent such as ADF and longer duration 60+ hours helped with loose skin. I've lost 85+ lbs and have very little loose skin.. it is noticeable for a bit but reduces as I continue to eat well and fast regularly. I don't know if simple daily intermittent fasting (less than 36 hours) would have had the same effects.
This is so interesting. I have learnt much of this from Jason Fung. I have a mental block about going to bed without dinner! 24 hours no problem ........ I'm determined to get over this block.
This was a great presentation. I looked for a channel to subscribe tp for Anja Michel but it appears there is none. I hope there is one. I would like to learn more. 👍🏻
Based on my experience, the big benefits happen after day 5, but work your way up to five days. Make sure you keep up your electrolytes, and have broth and no carbs the first few meals when you start to eat. Carbs will make you feel like crap on the first day of re-feeding. Beef broth tastes absolutely awesome though. I have beef broth and two eggs as my second meal. When you re-feed you need some glucose to get the body to repair itself, but lightly cooked veggies and protein will be enough without causing a big spike in insulin.
You will find Mick Jagger to be a health nut. Keith Richards on the other hand is probably not out jogging every day to maintain "moves like Jagger!". What I wanted to hear is, how often is a 48 hour fast recommended? Is it a once a week exercise, or once a month? Great talk by the way. I feel inspired to include prolonged fasting as part of my OMAD diet.
I fast annually for 27 days, going for 30, something ALWAYS HAPPEN!🥴 Just happens that if I start 5-7 days before the 30 day period of highest heat, I don't need any cooling. 2 🐦 1 💎
This is great information. I am going to skip my omad. I was having cheat days which is code for being stupid and dosing myself with a sugar hit at the weekend. I have not done that for 2weeks so hope I can stay away from food pushers until I am clean of sugars.
no if ur leaning fasting is deadly no point in fasting more than 16-20 hours if ur in shape just STOP putting so much poison in ur body and 12 hours of fasting is enough to detox
I’ve done fasts from 18 hrs to 7 days for the past year. I’m still waiting to not be hungry whist fasting! Sure there are spells when you can distract yourself and you don’t feel as hungry as you thought you might. But inevitably hunger is what makes me eat again
I wanna know more about adrenals causing issues with low carb diets or fasting. Like I take Vyvanse or methylphenidate which obviously keeps you in a bit more of a fight/flight mode
I’m very happy that I do fasting everyday since last year, 18:6 and keto diet, and now I am really thinking 🤔 to do carnivore, I’ve seen so many videos and comments about this, and specially seen Dr. KenD Berry.
A great 👍 information, in Brisben ir was a resort started by a father , Don and later on his son Tyler joined him and they have been keeping this way of recovery for around 45 years with great success. "2% - 5% of all Planet's population - think "..and 95 % will better die than they will think "Bernard Show famous quote 😀 is even much more obvious nowadays :)
Great talk. I was missing information on how to fast. Water fast or fat fast (as Dr Bright is recommending)? It seems fat fasting is easier on the adrenals.
My question is: I can easily go for 36-48 hours but then I can’t sleep! I am on carnivore diet now for almost 3 mnths and I am doing very good (with fasting). The no sleep bothers me.
I noticed this when I first started fasting, even for one day -- but your body adapts, I don't know the mechanics, I had read quite a bit of similar stories and felt relieved ... then started sleeping better lol!
I find this too, I’ve done 7,5,4,3,2 1 day fasts. On the 7 day fast the sleep was worst in the early days, by the 5 and 6the night, sleep improved. I find the 2 and 3 day fasts hard for this reason sometimes! I still love fasting though. I have heard of people like Paul Saladino recommend a small amount of honey to help with sleep at night, I haven’t tried it I feel it would be breaking the fast.
But, now doctors like Peter Attia and Brad Stanfield say that fasting depletes lean muscle mass too much, especially if you are a senior. I'm 66 years old, love fasting for multiple days, but now I'm afraid I'll be hurting myself.
Experientially, intermittent fasting with a ketogenic diet is Imperative, beyond the developmental & procreation stages, as this ℹ️nformed Biologist 👩🏽🔬 advises 🙌🏽🥳☂️🌅 24:44
If you are concerned not to mention fasting to your patients first up, then I guess telling them to have a cold bath first thing in the morning is not on either
Where is the evidence in the past, 6000 years, we starved ourselves for 2 days every week. In the 50/60s etc we did not fast but we had gaps between meals. Little sugar , fruits, or sweets, candies were a treat, animal fats for oils. Grilling meat was a no no, we saved the fat. Type 2 Diabetes was seen in over 70 year olds but still not common. Only when the Ancel Keys diet came in did we start having real problems. Today's diet.
Well, I won't go back thousands of years.. but clearly in recorded human history fasting was common. For religious purposes (many religions call for it), for spiritual goals (example: Native Americans seeking "vision quests"), for health (Hippocrates as an example), during times of grief (as a deliberate decision as well as the body's way to protect itself). Considering how common and acceptable it was (until recently), two days a week (not necessarily consecutive) is not a huge anomaly.
Dr. Stephen Phinney says that after about 24 hours of fasting, the body DOES start consuming its own protein. I tend to believe him, as he has done the studies.
I’ve been fasting regularly for a year, I have definitely gotten stronger, and I’m doing less strength exercise training than I was before starting fasting. I’ve been amazed that I’ve gotten stronger. I’m in my healthy weight for height range now.
While this is true, many people who regularly take medication especially prescription medication could do without it (eventually anyway) following better lifestyle habits including fasting (extended if possible and necessary), eating whole foods (not highly processed food-like substances), getting daily quality rest, and movement/exercise particularly in the outdoors.
I frequently fast on mondays Duruing the fast, I only consume beverages made with powdered sugar, electrolytes, some whey, and salt Along with this I'll eat plenty of Haribo candy and chocolate Probably some fruit too Works like a charm. I seem to be getting leaner month by month
The average is different than the mean. 22 can be the average of a series of numbers that doesn't even include 22. If 3/4 of the population died at 0 and the remaining 1/4 lived to be 88, the average age at death would be 22, even if not one single person died at 22. Infant death was extremely common in prehistoric times. A better argument against a paleolithic diet than saying that the average age at death was 22 (which, as we've seen, may just be a mathematical artefact) would be to inquire into what exactly all those infants were dying from.
If I could have stopped farting all night long as to be not getting my sleep, I’d still be at least highly plant based. I find beans to be absolutely scrumptious.
